DEAR READER: "Get Higher" is no longer available. "Hidden Talents: A deliciously twisted m/m trilogy" is the recently published, full series in one volume. See it on Goodreads here.

This book is part of a series! A week at ARSI has done David some good, thanks to Sky's help and his newfound focus. Aki's pleased to see his dead lover's twin getting under control, but he still has unfinished business with the other surviving O'Reilly brother. They're not the only ones with things to work out. Tired of always cleaning up more than his fair share, Lip corners Mark for a long overdue conversation. Then it's time to figure out what's going on with Sky, who seems strangely focused all of a sudden. After spending the week with the others at ARSI, Ken's back in Los Angeles where Jin is waiting to pick up where they left off. There's no denying the pull, but how wary should he be? Regardless of his reservations, things are looking pretty good from where Jackson is standing.

Goodness but it's still a challenge keeping everyone straight, but it's my fault for stopping for a while. It still sucks me in though and I cant wait to see just what future Jackson knows about. Ken and Jin are now together, or are they? I've never met a couple I'm more confused about in that they are a product of their upbringing but also of their past experiences!! To have a need for each other, but to fight it all the way as Ken does and Jin to be constantly amazed with Ken because he doesn't know just where he stands with him half the time. For Jin to have a lover and boss that knows a future and pushes him towards it and still wants his loyalty.....Jackson I believe is more the father figure Jin needs whereas Ken is the unknowing in a world Jin knows all to well. It's crazy to know things and yet have to trust....and these precogs and other mind talents are still very young, being lead by leaders who have the same talent and are just as emotionally messed up as the "kids." Trust is a big thing here. I can see why things go awry more often than not. Emotions have a way of sneaking in the best of us. These "kids" may have talents, but they are still "kids" with deadly skills. I'm somewhat frazzled and probably make no sense what so ever. Good reading though!! Really good!

OK, I'm going to stop reviewing these individually. This is patently one single story and trying to review each volume is starting to feel like I've stopped every 10 or so chapters to write a partial review. It's becoming ridiculous. You'll therefore find the same review for books 4-7 in the series.

I've now read up to book seven. Luckily, in the Note From the Author, at the end of Get Higher, she mentioned "two more books." So, at least I now know how much more to expect. I know I've harped on about it, but the fact that this story is broken up into (apparently) 9 separate volumes is one of only two real complaints with 'the series.' The second is how much history is glossed over, considering how important it is to the events of the book's present. This sadly includes a lot of the character development and worldbuilding. The reader really is left to just kind of catch up where they can as the events unwind.

I like those characters we get to know. (We don't get to know all of them, even when they play a significant role in things.) Jackson's decidedly Machiavellian plan is starting to come to fruition and it's interesting. The sex is often hot. I especially liked the way Jin all but worships Ken.

Pending the next two books come out soon enough that I even still remember that I read the first seven, I'll be finishing the series out. (Will probably still be grumbling about the serialisation though.) I've enjoyed the sarcasm and the narrative voice a lot. The writing and editing is pretty good (especially for freebies) and I like the gritty feel of it all.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. Most of the characters are well-fleshed out. The sex scenes are very well written in my opinion. I still think that a glossary of sorts explaining the various talents and which characters have which talents. I also was a bit confused about why some of the talents kill themselves and then get brought back. For instance, why did David's parents start killing him when he was a child? Was this explained in one of the previous books, but maybe I've forgotten it?
My biggest quibble with this book(and some of the others too), is the poor editing. This is one line in the book-"More huge black rocks lined the cove AND THE EVEN the calmer waven make crashing sounds against them." There were multiple instances of incorrect words being used and this really pulls the reader out of the book.
I also have a bit of an issue with the author's pretty constant use of the preposition "of" where another prepositon could or should be used. For instance the author says "bored of" instead of maybe bored "by" or bored "with". "Exhausted of" instead of "exhausted by" and "embarrassed of" instead of "embarrassed by". Although these examples are not exactly poor grammar, it SOUNDS like poor grammar to me. I don't know, maybe I'm the only one bothered by these types of issues.
I must admit I am being a bit harsh for a series that has so far, been free.
But despite my criticism of some of the writing, I still enjoyed this seventh book in the Hidden Talents series and look forward to seeing what will happen with everyone.

Get Higher was a great book. I'm so happy Ken and Jin finally got together. My only complaint is that the book was to short and I wish it would of had more with Sky and Mark. I also hope when there won't be a long waiting period for the next book because I can't wait to see what happens.

A strange and sexy world.

I love these characters, can't quite figure out what's going on, and love the fact that most of the characters are queer men.
