Fainting spells, flowing gowns, and falling for a demon lord? This ‘bride’ never signed up for that. Whoever said “marriage is an adventure” clearly never had to wed a demon lord while masquerading as a woman. I’m Robin Aldercrest, and despite being blessed—or cursed—with the visage of a delicate flower, deceiving the Duke of Lunaria is proving more challenging than taming a wild griffon.
My esteemed father decided to solve our family’s predicament—the demon king’s demand for a bride—by offering me up to Duke Darius, a notorious demon lord rumored to possess not only massive horns, but also an impressive... stature and “sword” to match. The dire consequence? Should His Grace uncover my true nature, my family might find themselves adorning the castle’s pikes. A trifling matter, to be sure, especially for a sheltered, fainting-prone whelp like myself.
Now, I find myself ensconced in a foreboding fortress of gleaming stone and shadowy corridors, with a husband as terrifyingly beautiful as he is perceptive. Each touch ignites my skin like wildfire, and his molten gold eyes seem to peel away my pretenses faster than I can erect them. I arrived intending to play the role of the most convincing jilted wife in history, but now I face a far graver I fear I may be falling for him. And in this battle of wits against a demon who can see through deception as if it were gossamer, I’m beginning to think my heart isn’t the only thing I stand to lose—if I don’t faint first, that is.
A Heart Disguised is a tale of deception and desire, featuring a boy in a gown finding unexpected love in the arms of his terrifying demon husband. It’s a story of wit battling against magic, where attraction blossoms within the opulent halls of an extravagant castle.
Content Contains explicit sexual content, cross-dressing, and explores themes of deception and power imbalance.
THE DEMON LORDS OF AETHORIA SERIESDarius & Robin A Heart Disguised A Heart Unveiled
DNF @10%. I might come back to this one but I lost interest when I read that it's the first of 2 books about the same couple. The writing is very descriptive and I'm struggling to stay interested for 1 book, let alone two. I love arranged marriage books but this one seems like a lot to slog through at this point in time. Nothing against the book- it's a timing issue.
I was fairly excited to delve into a new fantasy world with demon overlords and their very human lovers and for the most part, the book delivers on its promise - a political marriage to appease the human part of the new empire and a boy of only 18 sacrificed by his 'noble' father. We even have several demon lords (a promise of more couples to come!) which is always a plus if the book impresses. But all the little signs I managed to ignore turned into bigger problems and now I am quite on the fence about how I actually feel about this.
The boy is another victim of the modern MC (of romance stuff): Beautiful but oblivious about that Innocent and experience-less Clumsy (like the original version of this prototype, Bella Swan, is more capable) Instantly attracted to the hot love interest despite reasons to be careful Kind Kind of nerdy Kind of shy And so on and so forth.
I can like that, I did like it until the book kept whacking me over the head with this fact and kept comparing him to the literal demon. Demon, who, let me say, is not demonic in the least. Which, again, I can accept a super nice, gentle, getting progressively more obsessed demon lord who spends his days with paperwork instead of exhibiting any fearsome qualities yet the moments in counted, he was... Actually he was kind of a jerk. Spoilers ahead but he spied on him via a bird, yes, when naked, that's how he learnt his bride is a boy, he said he wouldn't bed a child bride but really 18 is the magic number so even though he was a virgin and practically ace before him, into the bed with him, the wedding night, which took ages to get to, was the worst, instead of finally putting his fears to rest, he practically revels in his discomfort and the fear he swore he would alleviate in the first chapters. Because it's his first night, he decides to give him so many Os he repeatedly asks to finally go to sleep and when the boy protests their size difference he says and I kid you not, use your healer abilities - like, oh, you want me to be gentle and considerate? But you can heal yourself! So let's do that instead. Can you imagine?!?! I was also personally quite frustrated with the bride business. I go for gay romance because, suprise, there are two guys. So for the boy to be called a bride and continued to be paraded in dresses after the truth is revealed just really pissed me off. The whole book he struggles with the fine dresses and the insistence on keeping it up makes me thing androgenous is not just a feature but the identity of this whole shebang. It also makes the duke even more of a jerk. I have a personal problem with gay books that read like straight ones and this one is a good example. Get him singing to his three stray animals and we have a princess on our hands. I also expected, in such a cozy, fuzzy warm book, for Ro..bin? To find his place, his family, to truly flourish now that he's from under his terrible father's thumb. Darius is the love interest who should revel in providing his unexpectedly delightful human with everything he needs but so much of the book was all about Darius - the teacher of magic is nowhere to be found, the outings are just an opportunity to find the boy amusing, he is given a wardrobe he knows is unsuitable for him... He also calls him Your Grace. In bed. At the end of the book. While the demon has twelve pet names like dove and little one. That's the kind of relationship this is. This had a lot of potential to be either a super nice fluffy fantasy-flavoured romance or a dramatic arranged marriage turned the love of your life and it was neither and I am so sad.
I am going to give this a chance but I can't overlook the little details and expect some reparations in the next one.
I did not enjoy this book. At 60% I just started skimming to see if anything of interest happened. The secondary characters were awful. Robin's maid probably irritated me most. She starts terrified for him, making escape plots then switches to you're a beautiful woman and you'll be a fabulous bride. She completely dismissed his gender any time he mentioned the fact he was not a woman and hey, we're deceiving a demon that might murder me. For something with the word steamy in the title this was a disappointment and that's being kind. I'm kind of mad at myself for reading as long as I did.
I have to say, while the story had potential, a LOT of it was wasted. There is zero character development. Let's start with Robin
He stays a "damsel" in distress for the entirety of the book. He feels like an early day Disney princess. Pretty, has a way with animals and everyone loves him second one.
He is cutsie and clumsy.
He states that he hated wearing dresses multiple times. No one cares.
His care taker goes from "DANGER! Let's run away" to "Hey, so he might unalive you when he finds out, but open 'em!" In like, two seconds.
His ab*sive family dynamic is discarded. The incredibly large plothole about how Robin is disguised and sent to Darius is a GLARING issue. What did Darius do about it? Nothing. He didn't even send a letter saying: "Hey, you bamboozled me, but your son is fine. Bye, lol."
Darius says his healing magic is precious and must be nurtured. Does nothing to help him.
And now, for the Dark, fearsome, battle worn, dangerous Demon Lord himself. Oh wow. Everyone built him up to be this insane, fear inducing and powerful lord. The book says his powers are insane. Does nothing with them except showcase them ONCE. In battle practice.
Oh? Are there uprisings from demon-fearing humans? What will they do? Attack and wound Darius? Kidnap Robin or Darius's brother? Nope. Mentioned once. Never again.
And while the book tries to portray Darius as fearsome. He largely stays a glorified office worker. The worst thing he does is toward Robin. Listen, I am all about that soulmate attraction at first sight, but, Darius praises Robin mostly on his beauty.
A Snow White situation. He spies on Robin through a bird constantly. It is isn't stated whether the humans are homophobic or what, but Darius keeps Robin's gender a secret at all times.
The book is a tease until the very end of the book. We hear of Darius's appetite and prowess, but hot dang. He is a terrible lover. Even after Robin asks him to let him rest, Darius's answers basically rotate between:
"You can do it." "Just use your healing magic on yourself" and outright ignoring him. Heck, I bled from this SECTION.
I like the premise, but it isn't very well executed.

I enjoyed this book. Robin was funny, witty, and clumsy. I love the way he was described as well. He was overly naive which was a bit unbelievable, but considering he stated his father didn't really let fraternize with others to keep him unknown, I can believe it.
Darius is a demon lord that was overall less terrifying than most other demons are, which is understandable since the war is over, they won and now he's governing. Some might have a problem with him spying, but he's a demon lord, so what do you expect. I liked how he slowly became enamored with Robin.
The romance was good. The spice was great.
My two biggest issues though is with the whole idea of the book. I get fooling the groom with the bride, but using a person of the wrong sex only works until the wedding night, so what was the end game for the family. Like were they expecting them to never have sex or for Darius to not ever notice Robin had the wrong anatomy. I read a book where they switched grooms with twins since they were identical, but putting a man in place of a girl doesn't work in the end. Now if they had some type of illusion charm of something to alter the body to help the charade then I could buy it more. Or if they said, the charade just has to last until they are wed as at that point it's final and there's no backing out or something like that. I also would have liked to have seen at the wedding, them say just Robin Aldercrest, instead of Lady Robin Aldercrest, during the vows.
Secondly, Robin has healing magic, in every fantasy story people with healing magic are treated well as they are helpful, but for some reason Robin is frowned upon by his family. I get he's a bastard, but having a healer would be beneficial, especially a trained one.
Even with those two issues, I can't wait for the next one. I hope they start allowing Robin to allow pants again, so he doesn't always have to be clumsy.
Welp, that’ll tech me to judge a book by its cover. I did not love this but I’ll still probably give the next book a read and hope for the best. Plus I really want to see if Darius wrecks Robin’s father for his treatment of him and the deception.
Right now, this book’s rating is 4.29 (wtf book did I read??) anyway, I gotta say, I don’t love the fluffy cinnamon-rolly conquering demons thing. Like, I can’t see these demons deciding to come up out of hell to rule earth, too. Like why did they? If they love their original home so much, and seem to have pretty much taken over earth to improve things for the humans, why bother? Wtf kind of demons are these? No one got tortured this entire book. No death, no gore, also, somehow, even with a ginormous demon dong, no lube, and that was just fine. Also, Robin doesn’t seem to identify as trans so it’s weird to me that even to the end, after the jig is up, he’s still referred to as wife/bride/she/lady.

I didnt like this one. It was okay, but also really bad. So the premis is that he is hiding his gender, because that could get him kill, but the lord knows that he is not a woman. I think it was confusing at the end, because he kept calling him, his wife, even thought they all knew that he was a man, so it felt like he was erasing his gender, because it would have felt more like genderfluid, if the MC himself, was demanding that he wanted to be called a wife, or he was choosing to wear woman clothes because he wanted it, but that wasn't really what was happending, he was wearing clothes, so he wouldn't get killed, and because he was being force into it, and later when it is found out, he just keep wearing the clothes, but the book doesnt talk about him accepting it, or anything, so it just didn't feel like his choice. I was also confused why the ML (the lord) keep pretending not to know that MC was male, that just didn't make any sense. AND the marriage, at the end, i was confused about what kind of marriage happend, because ML had 2 option, one was the "life long commitme of mate" or just a normal marriage, but it felt like he choose the life long commitment, but never communicated that, and that was just weird. ALSO the intim scene, where he could just "heal" him self, that was not consent. The more i think about it, the more bad it becomes, because i started bye giving it 2,75 star, but now it just feel like a 2,15 star.

The writing is good and the characters are compelling. However, the events take place over approximately one month. The plot progression is slow due to the writing style where the same event is described twice, once from the MC and once from the ML. It is a pleasant read, though I wish very much that the plot had reached certain other events that were alluded to by the author.
So, I'm not gonna go into detail but this would have done NUMBERS in 2018 wattpad. That's how bad this was. Just awful.
A lot of plots left to never be talked about, scenes that went on for too damn long, and a concerning amount of emphasis on how porcelain white, bright blue eyed and blonde Robin is.
I loved this book. Both ML s are brilliant and the story is brilliant. I love the humour and how swoon worthy they both are with hot love scenes. This book deserve 100 out 100!!!
Robin made me laugh from beginning to end. He was sweet, sarcastic and adorable so I wasn’t surprised that Darius was drawn to him. These two were explosive together. The chemistry simmered and burned with an intensity that left me wanting more.
It really grossed me out that once Robin’s true sex was mutually revealed, Darius continued to call him “his wife” and “his bride”. Then the next day, Robin just get dressed in women’s clothing again like nothing changed. Ugh. I stopped reading at that point. Not a M/M book in the least.

I have never laughed so hard.. this antics Robin stumbled upon was super amusing. I gave it 3 stars due to the lack of steam the title implies. There is steam at the end but for most of the book it's lacking.
I enjoyed this so much. I actually laughed throughout and couldn’t help but be entertained. I loved them together. I can’t even say this was a push pull because Darius was all in from the beginning. Now the big secret that wasn’t a secret kept things interesting and fun.
This was a fun pick me up story. Very sweet but too short. I guess that’s the nature of these books. My only thing I don’t like was the stupid quips Robbin suddenly says that’s supposed to make him seem witty.
Don't believe the people giving this book less than 3 stars. They are tripping lol. This book was atleast a 4 stars and the people leaving 1 or 2 stars to this books are just discouraging mm auhors from writing more fantasy/royalty fiction. This was a really fun read.
A Heart Disguised by Zara K Lee was such a sweet, slow-burning fantasy adventure that truly warmed my heart 🥹💛
The cover is just mesmerizing, the manga-like style of the male main character with parts of his beautiful castle in the background, and his dark aura summarizes the vibe of this book and character fantastically and I can imagine being Robin standing before him so well.
Robin, a kind and selfless illegitimate son with a gentle spirit, is forced by his father to marry the demon duke Darius instead of his sisters. Dark and cruel rumors surround Darius — whispers he wears like armor to keep the world at a distance. Robin is understandably nervous; not only is his new husband said to be dangerous (and very well-endowed 👀), but he also expects to marry a woman (not a disguised man).
In a classic case of opposites attracting, Darius is immediately drawn to his new, somewhat clumsy bride. Their relationship slowly unfolds into something full of warmth, trust, and quiet understanding — the kind of story that shows love blooming where fear once lived.
This story gave me K-drama vibes in the best way — that mix of slow-burn affection, funny misunderstandings, and moments that make you smile without realizing it 🥹💛 And yes, the egg discussion had me laughing way more than I expected! 🍳😂
My Rating : 3/5 Book 015 / February 2025 / Kindle Unlimited . Prince forced to taker his sister's plate as a bride to the Demon lord... what could go wrong? This book honestly was a palette cleanser for me. It has arranged marriage, our Demon lord Duke Darius ready to worship the ground Robin walks in, some size difference and just overall a fun time. It's a fantasy Romance with more focus on the fantasy and not the world or plot building, and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
