A half baked examination of Bruce's psyche and multiple Hulk personalities. It's more of a gimmick to have Bruce morph into Joe Fixit, Doc Green, and Hulk Smash. The villain is the stereotypical one-note man operating behind the scenes. He's the guy the President reports to supposedly. It's all a bit silly.

In a lot of ways, This was a prototypical Hulk story. Hulk fights the military, other Hulk-monsters, and himself in his mind-scape. Like most Hulk comics they have to have some dumb gimmik, though. In This one, Hulk turns into different types of Hulk at different times (Joe Fixit, smart Hulk, etc).

Bruce Banner discovers he has ALS and seeks out his old neuroscientist friend and ex-girlfriend, Angela, for help. Since the ALS will kill him, leaving only the Hulk surviving, Banner uses a machine built by Angela to travel into his own unconscious mind in order to confront and bargain with the fractured psyches of the Hulk, including the Professor and the grey-skinned Joe Fixit.
The situation becomes far more complicated when General Ryker, head of a well-funded black ops organisation, sets out to capture and control the Hulk for his own ends.

In all honesty, for all that the character is iconic, I've never really read any Hulk stories that showed any real depth of complexity. Usually they amount to 'Banner goes place, Army makes him angry, Hulk smashes place' and, as such, I wasn't really that optimistic about this story being any different.
However, the way Jenkins treats the Hulk and his many aspects as a psychological condition and then juxtaposes that with the motor neurone disease Banner has developed is a stroke of brilliance. Rather than having the terminal illness make Banner confront his mortality, it forces him to confront the equally terrifying possibility of immortality but as the Hulk rather than as himself.

The plotline about the shady General out to seize the Hulk's power is pretty generic and doesn't really add anything of great value, but really it's just the sideshow to the main event of Bruce having to reconcile the Professor (an idealised amalgam of him and the Hulk), Joe Fixit (his surly teen personality) and dozens of other variations on the Hulk, including the angry child who is the most well-known incarnation.

I was genuinely surprised and pleased to finally find a Hulk story that engaged me as much as this did.

2.5/5. This is a follow up to the great El increíble Hulk: Gritos silenciosos, in which the idea of multiple Hulk personalities inside Banner's head, product of childhood drama, look out for control, while Banner gets ill fromLou Gherig's disease. However, Ryker the follow up villain to Thunderbolt Ross without the personality and masked in non-existent mystery, the poor presence of Doc Samson, and the choppy narrative really brought the whole plotline down even to expected clichés like the manacles that the harder Hulk pull, the stronger and painful they are. Has some entertaining moments, but it's a letdown from its amazing predecessor.

Casey's dissapointing run following Peter David comes to a close, replaced by Paul Jenkins, who immediately and tactfully returns to the threads left behind by David while contributing his own ideas resulting in a strong, satisfying return to form for the Jade Giant.

A favorite Hulk story-line. I'm a big fan Paul Jenkins' run. Ron Garney's art on Hulk is underrated. This story introduced a facet of the Hulk that would become a big part of the Immortal Hulk.

I like the psychological analysis for MPD. This is getting a lot closer to the truth than previous stories.

The story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is quite an interesting one and I've seen different versions of it in various things. (I suppose werewolves could also come under that category...)

The Hulk is interesting, I think, because he's also a superhero - at least technically. Also, the personality of the Hulk is completely different to the personality of Bruce Banner.

It was interesting to see just how fractured Banner's psyche really is. It was also really informative to see the different types of Hulks (or personalities) contained within Bruce.

I felt the series of comics in this book worked really well at showing Banner's past as well as the different personalities of the main Hulks inside him. I was a little confused about how everything fit together, but for the most part, I was really entertained reading this.

It was interesting to see all the different people who had been affected by the radiation, too. And I liked seeing Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics, too. It was also good that the bad guy actually had reasons for what he was doing.

I have various other comic books that I will definitely be reading soon. I think this collection is good as an introduction to the world of Marvel. This book was mostly easy to understand, with only a couple of exceptions. And I liked learning more about the Hulk and Bruce Banner.

The Hulk in the comics seems just the same as the Hulk in the movies, as a supporting character he is great, but on his own, not so much. It's only when more characters turn up in Dogs of War that the story really gets going. Nice art work though. I think there are much better Marvel stories out there.

This is the great examination of Banner's psyches that has been waiting for a long time. This doesn't go anywhere in particular, but is just what the Hulk/Banner characters needed. I only wish this was collected or told in a format that would have lead to a more satisfying conclusion, if at all.
