In the end, did I stab him to be free of him? And free to what? Fuck? Snort? Party? Or free to be normal?

It was a very interesting situation, up there on Maundy,” Elliot said.

“Nothing like it in the world. It’s a safe place for people like me.”

“People like you? Can you be more specific?” He ran his finger on the edge of his blotter, and a chill went up my inner thighs.

“People like me means, I don’t know. Fuckers. We fuck because it’s what we do. Bus drivers drive. Accountants account. Policemen police. I’m a fucker. I fuck.”

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

★★★★★! Use, part 2. Heiress & addict Fiona Drazen is torn between her master & lover and therapist & savior while digging into her past!

“My darkest desires were for an inaccessible normality.”

Books in Songs of Perdition series should be read in order and I recommend reading AFTER Songs of Submission:
Part 1: Kick
Part 2: Use

In Kick (part 1) celebutante, heiress, drug and sex addict, Fiona Drazen woke up at Westonwood Acres addiction treatment center to the news that she had stabbed her master and lover, Deacon Bruce in the chest. With no recollection of what happened story followed Fiona being evaluated and treated by Doctor Elliott Chapman while the police continued investigate whether charges should be filed.

Use (part 2) opens up to the aftermath of part 1’s eventful ending. It continues to follow Fiona, Elliott and Deacon, digging in to each of their pasts and recalling events leading up that fateful night. In present time Deacon, her anchor is staking his claim while Elliot, the savior aligns himself. It also ties events to Fiona’ family as well as Songs of Submission and Songs of Corruption.

Story is both insightful and shocking as we learn of heartaches, violence, secrets… and much more. Many questions will be answered as new arise… Who will Fiona end up with?

 photo SoP2hexBSbysb_zps175d5f6b.gif

Fiona Maura Drazen has a long journey ahead and digging into her past helps us better understand the woman she has become. Seven words to describe Fiona: Reflective, smart, broken, conflicted, manipulative, strong and lost.

 photo SoPH1v6xBSbysb_zpsd0d3dcc5.gif

Deacon Bruce is still an enigma, but he I staking his claim and looks to be everything I could ever ask for in a hero. Seven words to describe Deacon: Commanding, jaded, unattainable, worldly, self-assured, nurturing and enigmatic.

 photo SoP2H2v2xBSbysb_zpsee0b95e7.gif

Doctor and minister, Elliot Chapman opens up in this story and what I saw conflicted me as he also possess qualities that Fiona needs... Seven words to describe Elliot: Collected, in-control, elusive, nurturing, focused, guarded and complex.

C.D. pushes her characters and pushes us as readers. I’d still say that I am Team Deacon, but Elliott really impressed me! Use ends with the cliff-hanger of all cliff-hangers. I for one can’t wait for part 3 of the Songs of Perdition series!

One very interesting heroine! Two swoon-worthy heroes! Effortless and spellbinding story-telling! Brilliant and complex plot! This reeks of 6-star shelf!

“I thought you’d be safer if you were completely mine. But it doesn’t. It makes you trapped.”

Use is now available!

CD Reiss has once again demonstrated her brilliance and given us her usual brand of elegant, unique writing that oozes feeling, action and thoughts. Use is another addictive page turner, another book love... A sublime reading experience... I could NOT put it down.

Book Two of The Songs of Perdition series continues the story of celebutante, and addict, Fiona Drazen, her life journey, Deacon, Elliot, and the Drazen clan.

It explores indulgence and how it can go horribly wrong.

The story is told from the dual perspective of Fiona and Elliot. Deacon's perspective would have been welcomed, simply to discover more of his inner workings; I want to know if he's genuine, or controlling? CD Reiss has revealed exactly what we need from him at this moment in time, and the fact that we have not heard his direct thoughts, adds to his enigmatic charm and air of mystery.

It's erotic in places with a dark quality and difficult themes; much edgier than previous books in the Songs of series and I ADORED IT! At every turn I was shown pictures, sometimes they were hard on the palette and quite disturbing, but that's a requirement if the true world of Fiona Drazen is to be experienced. For me, she is the true star of the story.

Fiona lives her life, and survives the only way she knows how. There are parts to the story that are gut wrenching. Fiona is a girl who needs to be loved and adored, needs to be made better. I felt her hurt, her pain, her struggles, her helpless frustration, anguish and degradation. At times the story is heartbreaking, intense and despicable, but she's so very brave in her approach. She's a spirited and extremely loyal lady who's experiences have shaped her existence. She needs to heal, to release her demons. Until she does this will she know the difference between what she really wants and what she thinks she deserves?

There are questions that we need answers to...
Did she stab Deacon?
Will Fiona remember what happened?
How is everything linked?
And the most pressing question, who would be the best outcome for Fiona....
#TeamElliot or #TeamDeacon

For me, both gentleman have qualities and both have their flaws, that's what makes the story magnificent.

Elliot is silently powerful, all knowing and genuinely wants to help Fiona. Yes, at times, he seems somewhat unsure of his direction in life and sexually frustrated but he has an aura about him that appeals, and I feel like he has dominant tendencies just waiting to be explored. Fiona could be the one to show him the way?

Deacon is a little more mysterious. He's sexy, powerful, dominant, an expert in shabari with a deep, caring love for Fiona, or so it would appear.

Ultimately I'm #TeamFiona with a big sway towards
#Team and there are readers who're strongly opposed to my viewpoint. Having reflected and discussed at length, I'm not 100% in my resolve, which is why I'm #TeamFiona all the way!!! I guess for me either book boyfriend would bring happiness; the dynamic pleases me greatly and I completely trust that lady CD will lead me in the right direction. I have thoughts of where the story may go, but I shan't go into that at the moment.

The Drazen clan have a beautiful presence in Fiona's story, adding a greater depth, detail and feeling to everything. We experience Jonathan, our beloved hero from Songs of Submission, as a young boy which is pure book-heaven and touched my heart.

I love the way the entire Songs of series is intertwined, it's magical....

As beautiful as Shabari

Use is the follow up novella to Kick and marks the end of sequence one in The Songs of Perdition series. Although there will be more from the Perdition range, there’s no need to wait for the series to be complete because CD Reiss So go and experience Fiona. Girl Power!

5 Serious Stars....Period
* * * * * Spoiler Free-A 2014 Review
I have been thinking about how to talk to you about this book. As I have done in the past... I do not believe in reinventing the wheel... If I see other reviews which have the feel and better description of the book I am reviewing... then I will direct you there. At this time, there are only a few out due to the book just being released. My advice still holds, though, as there are many so beautiful in their artistry and feelings... and I know so many more are coming.....so please take time and read them, for each will give you insight into this series.

Insight... and that is the key... we want to have insight as to who we are... what is our place in the world...are we normal and what is normal. So many questions... and depending on how we were treated like children during all our formative years... it all comes into play.

As women... our first experiences with men are usually our fathers... and depending on what you experienced... it will mark you either positively or negatively... and from those things, our self-talk begins...

Our character Fiona was a child where parental warmth was lacking... and the father was not one to be a candidate for any awards... It wasn't the stereotypical house of poverty with drugs.. No, she was a child of wealth....but there were drugs that ran throughout her childhood... the drugs of power, manipulation, denial, and judgment.... all administered daily by her parents. Once she was classified and categorized by her father as a naughty, slutty girl... it was the turning point.... a path was shown... and she followed.

Use picks up right where we were left at the end of Kick. It covers and details so much about Fiona trying to figure out what has happened with Deacon, what she feels for Dr. Elliot, and her survival at the facility. This 2nd part covers so much... and with such care.

What readers get from C.D. Reiss is actually two books when she writes. You will always get a direct story that can feel like a film before your eyes. You can sit back... read... take it all in and wait for the next part. This reading can be very satisfying......

Yet... you also get a manuscript...

A book, which if you wish, will capture your imagination as you read. You will see where the book is going... feel as if you are trapped in the surroundings described... catch your breath as you read and not realize you were holding it. Little quotes or phrases will hang out there ... taunting you to go back and reread them... to understand exactly what they meant specifically ... and question what was implied... and it will all happen within a fraction of a moment. You will use the internet to see what a reference was... as you wish the full impact. You will not be able to stop yourself from pondering or in some instances yelling out loud... you will have lost control as C.D. Reiss now has it.

This series is about damaged people trying to understand who they are and get whole by whatever means that should be... Fiona is ready to figure this out... Deacon is waiting patiently; Dr. Elliot seems to have some play in Fiona's future still... and the Drazen clan is pulling together in uncharted waters.

This book is not for the faint of heart... but then you knew that already... so take a moment ...read some other reviews and decide if you are ready for more of this tale.

Searching, Wanting, Needing, Hoping and Desiring...........
I Absolutely Loved Use!! This story has kept me from reading other books. I keep thinking about it and frankly I can't get over the book hangover I am in. Hope you are happy CD for consuming my mind and soul with Fiona, Deacon and Elliot, you evil Queen you (wink wink *blowing kisses*)!!

Fiona Drazen is still being held at the facility, she needs to remember what happened the night she stabbed her master, Deacon Bruce. Her therapist Dr. Elliot Chapman left her and she is assigned a new therapist. Fiona connected with Dr. Chapman but what Fiona didn't know was that Dr. Chapman connected with her as well. As Fiona remembers the events, Elliot returns to help her with her recovery and self awakening. There are twists and turns, good and evil, hope and despair, Jonathan and Debbie, Margie and Theresa. The ending will gut you and make you question the future. Only the brilliant mind of the author knows where it leads.

There 3 main characters suck you in and keep you at odds. There is Fiona, a troubled young lady, so many tragedies in her life, spiraling out of control and wanting something that she is not sure of. Dr. Elliot Chapman, someone in search of something as well but he crosses a line for me. Dr./Patient relationship is one of the most sacred and he understands it but is at odds with it. Deacon Bruce, Fiona's Master, an enigma we don't get much of him. In the several appearances that he makes, he completely seals his love and protectiveness of Fiona. (I am #TeamDeacon)

 photo DavidGandy2_zpsb873b3e1.jpg

There is much debate between Elliott and Deacon. I for one love Deacon. He has always been #TeamFiona.

 photo Fiona5_zpse1bd1508.jpg

Fiona has many demons and she needs help, that is a given, but who she needs is up at odds. A Dr. who has feelings for her, feelings that awaken a side of him that makes him feel alive or a Master, that grounds her and keeps her in control and accepts her for who she is. Everyone has their own opinion and I highly recommend that you jump aboard and get in on the debate of #TeamFiona, #TeamElliot, or #TeamDeacon.

CD Reiss.....you continually knock my socks off. You are able to invoke feelings so strong that I can't read other books and I have to debate your intriguing characters for days. Your beauty of words always sends me to another place. You are able to make me feel things that make me crazy with passion. You, my dear, are one hell of a writer and are.....

Not enough stars to rate this installment ... Truly.

Maybe it's because I am sleep deprived since I stayed up late into the night/early morning to finish this instalment and then lay awake for hours trying to process all I read but I have all these emotions still going as wild as Snowcone did on that fateful night.

Two of strongest emotions are definitely hate & love.

I hate that we got so little of Deacon and none of his POV.

I love that his (Deacon's) presence is so strong and powerful that you can actually feel it as you turn the pages. He managed to steal/own every scene he was in, be it via flashback or present time.

I hate that USE solidified what I already knew after reading KICK - I am 100% team Deacon and, unless Fiona ends up dying a violent death by his hand at the end of this series, I'll never be on the other team. As far as I am concerned, there isn't any other team [for me] unless you count team Fiona. The reason I say I hate it is because I didn't think it will so easy for me to choose a side. I really hoped to spend some time on that fence with my fellow Canaries but alas ... some things just aren't meant to be.

I love Fiona and Deacon's relationship.

I hate Warren.

I love Fiona and the Drazen pledge and appearances by young Drazen siblings.

I hate what Karen is doing to herself.

I love how much Deacon loves and cares for Fiona.

I hate that this was over so quick.

I love that they are ALL addicts in a way and how CD made us into addicts w/her series as well ...

I'd love to see how CD is going to top this one ... This is her best one to date, IMO.

Favorite quote:

"But I wasn’t worried about how I looked. Nothing could be further from my mind. It was never about that between us, because he saw me."

And a tiny example of CD's brilliance and why this book is on my "this is why I love to read" shelf:

"She wore her little soup of redheaded genes like a tiara."

There you have it. These are my initial thoughts but I am sure I'll be back later to add to this review after I reread this a dozen more times in the next few weeks.

Cheers!

4 where do we go from here? STARS

“Maybe one day I'd remember the sticky web of circumstances that put us both in the stables, but did it matter a fuck? In the end, did I stab him to be free of him?
And free to do what?
Fuck? Snort? Party?
Or free to be normal?”

Finally finished with the last C.D. Reiss book I had on my TBR. Feels so freeing to conquer little goals. ;D

Fiona Drazen is back and she is still locked up for stabbing her boyfriend/master Deacon and can't remember what exactly happened. Oh, and she still is crazy addicted to sex. Just another member in the Drazen clan...a bunch of wonderfully unstable and messed up people.

“Sex was my superpower, and I knew when a man wanted me.”

Here is what I remember about book #1 in the Songs of Perdition series. I was blown away by the writing, the characters, the unique story and I never before felt so uncomfortable reading a book.
Miss Reiss pushes boundaries and it is bloody brilliant. Here is another thing I remember; I was angry and frustrated and I wanted to do some serious harm to certain people after I finished reading Kick.

Now most of these things are still true the second time around. The writing is phenomenal, the characters are just as unusual and lovable in their own rights. But I have to say, apart from the ending, Use was a lot more mellow and easier to stomach than Kick. Fiona is on her way to get some serious answers and to do some desperately needed self-reflection.

“I don’t want to be broken.”
He shook his head. “You don’t get to choose that.”

Use starts off with Fiona Drazen being in a drug induced haze, fantasizing and hallucinating her way through the day. A lot of the time she is thinking about her therapist Dr. Elliot Chapman and she has some rather explicit dreams about him too. But the attraction is not one sighted. The good doctor has a serious crush on his patient and it's not good in an ethical sense.

As you might remember Elliot left at the end of the last book and only after an incident after which Fiona gets a clearer picture about the events that led her here, he returns as her therapist.

Elliot Chapman is a straight laced workaholic who seems to be searching for himself and he does that by obsessing and doing some heavy counter-transference with Fiona. I have to be honest. I don't really like him. Unfortunately he plays a huge part in this book. Every other chapter is written in his POV and we get to see his home life (*cough* his girlfriend *cough*) as well as his struggles and ...ah shit, he is a bowl of mashed potatoes. I couldn't be less interested if I tried.

Things only get interesting when Deacon Bruce gets involved. That scene with Elliot and Deacon is EVERYTHING! Seriously!

“We shook hands. He looked me in the eye. Two gentlemen trying to protect the same woman, probably from each other.”

Also, for the first time in the series we get to see him in life action and not just a flashback. He is by far the most intriguing character. Very reasonable, strong, self-aware, collected and calm. I know that's a lot, but I just kept writing down adjectives every time he gets some 'screen' time. ;D

Can you tell I'm Team Deacon?

My issues with Elliot aside, I really love this book...this series. It's so unique and moving, I couldn't stay away if I tried. I want to find out what will happened to Fiona. Despite all her problems she seems to be a really good person, who just never learned how to deal with the life she got. Her self-reflecting and the whole arc of discovering what happened, what she might be capable of and if she is able or even willing to lead a normal life is fascinating to say the least.

For the Jonathan lover out there I have some more good news...he makes an appearance and I'm not going to tell you how or why cause it would spoil not only this book but also the Songs of Submission series. In fact I would suggest reading this series after you read Songs of Submission.

“You're like this rare creature. Rich. Famous. Living in a fish bowl. How many are there in the world?”

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. For starters...as mentioned above...I'm Team Deacon, but for some reason I have a feeling that Elliot is Ms. Reiss's endgame. He is constantly being pushed down our throats and I'm not real happy about that. I just have this nagging feeling and then there isn't even a third book in sight. If I had known about that I sure would have waited before continuing with the series. Damn love triangles...Ugh!

*sigh*

Let's hope there will be something soon. *fingers crossed*

There are not enough star's for this book in my eyes honestly Cd Reiss is a genius and really her writing just gets better and better and in this next instalment you will find out how our Queen has entwined characters, times, get to see different perspectives through different eyes. I am honestly awed by CD's Mind.

 photo EB6A2CD9-8080-40E9-9774-AE59895C3A25_zps3ecpprks.jpg

In this instalment we pick up where we were left at the end of Kick Where Fiona is dealing with herself and what she should be, where she should go and above all a battle in her head. Elliot is trying to get her to believe in herself, get her to fight and want to live and enjoy the path she's on. As readers we will question EVERYTHING I found myself going back to SOS with Jonathan and wondering what I missed and with CD's intriquite writing there are many layers and Depth to her storytelling, she has entwined lots of information within this book, I'll say it again she is a GENIOUS.

I found that you could really feel his love and devotion towards Fiona how he really does want the best for her. Is he the right person for her? that's the question... He's Fiona's Master that' definite.

#Elliot

Elliot ohh I personally feel pulled towards him in that he wants her to believe in herself, see how she has people who care about her, to give her more, saying that Elliot he is very confused about his loyalty towards a patient he shouldn't have feelings towards, his cravings, fantasies about Himself. How he craves dominance. Which way is CD taking us...

#Fiona

Fiona is Strong, her strength oozes through the pages blimey she holds her head high even if she's struggling underneath what she is, she is HUMAN honestly we all have weakness some stronger than others and we all deal with them differently Fiona deals with it the way she knows PLEASURE

My thoughts

CD has given us lots to think about yet again I'm reeling at the end of this with sooo many questions, how CD has woven the SOS series in this seeing it all differently wow what a storyteller..

so until next time..

Enjoy <3

I'm not sure where to begin with this book but to say Ms. Reiss delivered perfection. Absolute beautiful story. I'm feeling so many emotions I can't even describe them.

Fiona: how I love her and want to protect her. Tell her you have self worth. You are more than just a famous celebuante. Dig deep and find yourself, realize you are a person. I also want to high five her because of her freedom. How sexually freeing she is, how she says and does what she wants. Such a complex character.
"The other day, when you told me all the words to use to describe myself. You forgot one.....irrestiable

Elliot: I'm finding this character so intriguing. I feel like I'm at the beginning of his journey to becoming a Dom. But he has demons too. What's up with his dad? With his faith!? His profession?? I love how he sees beyond Fiona's walls and wants her to find her self worth. Know she is more than just a sex vehicle, but rather a compassionate, loyal and strong person.
"I want you to use different words. Like loyal. Strong. Trustworthy. Spirited. Brave. Selfless. Use those words Fiona. Stop lying to yourself about who you are"

Deacon: oh he's just plain beautiful with so much confidence. So protective. He accepts Fiona for who she is, what she is. Wants to protect her and keep her safe. But does he want her to grow? Hmm that is the question.
"I am serious at protecting what's mine"

So you will find answers in this book to what happened that night in the stables. You will be surprised and applaud Ms Reiss for how she weaved that nugget in. Just brilliant!! But you will have more questions in the end. Will Fiona find herself?? Or will she always see herself as a broken fucker?? What the fuck is up with mommy and daddy? Who will she pick. Team Deacon? Team Elliot? Or neither. Maybe she will pick Team Fiona??

I can't wait to see where CD takes us. I'm on the edge of my seat!!

10 stars!! Seriously it's that good!!

Holy crap did the heat turn on during this section of the book or what. I'm not confused anymore, nope things are clear as day, I'm more like shaking my head, seriously what the fuck am I reading these days and how the hell do I want to read more.

I HAVE to know what happens. This story is all seriously 50 shades of all fuckedupness. It's a triangle, yet not even close to being one. It's hard to describe this book, I'm pretty wordless when trying to think of a review worthy of words to describe this chaos. Bring me the ending.

What a suspenseful and wicked short story this was! Fiona continues on with her deplorable and shocking actions in this book, but I can't help but still like her. It was also nice to see Elliot sitting in the hot seat for a change with his own shrink serving up the therapeutic techniques.

I loved all of the drama, witty profanity, and sibling rivalry foolery between Fiona and the Drazen crew! Team Deacon all the way and on to book three!

5+++ Broken Stars

“What happens when the child of a wire mother is given every indulgence, and then has to deal with the slightest pain? Does the pain break them? Or are they already broken from the pleasure?”

This above quote from Use not only stands as my favorite from the book but also accurately demonstrates the layers of nuances in the plot and the brilliant writing of C.D. Reiss. One of the great beauties of reading Use proved to be the anticipation of finally getting the story. There was excitement in the air on release day, nerves going haywire, minds racing. Will our questions be answered? How many more will we ask? What’s to come of Fiona? Where will our alliances lie? With every single C.D. Reiss book you read two things will occur: you’ll always have questions and you’ll always want more.

So intricate her method of storytelling the only choice in the world: basking in the warm glow of her words and the cavalry of feelings erupted when she unleashes those words. It’s precise in nature, to the point statements of fact. Yet there’s so much emotion in those facts as though they’re poured onto the pages with liquid emotion, anthropomorphized sentences with vivid detail giving the reader a gift of understanding the characters better even when it seems we don’t understand what’s happening with them at all.

The work is psychological; you have to think when you read Use, layers of words and angles of perceptions. We’re caught in a web of forever changing perspectives. There’s foreshadowing of the future to what we’ve already learned about our beloved characters but in addition we get the unique vision of seeing the beginning of their journeys to which we already know the end. But do we really know? Or is everything we thought we knew and understood different as we learn the facts from Fiona’s perspective? What we thought we knew can be obliterated in an instant by the brilliant mastery of this author’s intricately twisted mind.

Fiona, Elliot, and Deacon all prove the truth of my above words - three of C.D. Reiss’s most brilliantly contrived characters to date. Fiona – strong, loyal, manipulative, flawed, HUMAN – maniacally trying to gain some aspect of control. What kind of control is she craving though? The control she’s used to owning? Or something new she never thought attainable? Elliot – neurotic, confused, sexually manic – maniacally discovering a latent part of himself whilst maintaining a slippery slope of control. Is Elliot the key to Fiona’s success? What’s the secret to his own? Deacon – arrogant, focused, worldly, mocking, controlled – forging Fiona’s path in a way she understands and needs. Is Deacon’s dominant way the right way? Is his way the answer to her problems? Will his strong omnipresence throughout the story get her to focus? Or will he be the catalyst of her destruction? Three characters intricately woven into a tangled web of missed perceptions, connections, and thought; twisted together in a great love story of discovery and redemption. It’s a tightly wound ball of control. Who will unravel it first? And how? And seriously, when?

There’s a quote from a great forbidden love story by Tiffany Reisz circling around my mind since the minute I finished Use. The hero of that story to the heroine says: “your mind must be the most marvelous playground”. Well the mind of C.D. Reiss – a magnificent playground. That completely demonstrates the awe continually evoked from her stories. I’m absolutely fascinated. The unbelievably structured way she mind fucks us with every single book is just plain crazy good. You want the cliffhanger so bad you can taste it. You love dangling off the edge just for the thrill of knowing she’ll turn around and mind fuck us again. You want to break from the pain of her words and the subsequent pleasure that break causes. Why? Because it’s fascinating and it’s deep and it’s smart and it’s entertaining. Use is greatness people and you should invest your time in reading the brilliance.

Whew..... That was INTENSE!!!! A lot to take in. Fiona breaks my heart.

I'll tell you, this author... She can write and she writes in a way that literally steals you and shreds you apart.

The second part of Fiona's story is DARK! It's gritty, it's raw and the sick parts are not glossed over. There are so many dimensions here, so many layers.

My gosh... And the pain behind the story... Jezzzz, it's so real. It slips across your skin, seeps into your veins and grips your heart.

It's totally unreal!

I'm a mess! A hot mess and I love that this author can do this to me TIME AND TIME AGAIN! Gah, I need the rest of this story like I need my next sip of coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm never going to sleep! I'm obsessing over this installment.

Holy shit... WOW! Just WOW! CD Reiss is an author Goddess!

5 stars is not enough.

Use is the second part of the Songs of Perdition series from CD Reiss. Songs of Perdition is a spin off series from her highly acclaimed Songs of Submission series which starred Jonathan Drazen. Songs of Perdition stars Jonathan’s sister, Fiona and Songs of Corruption stars another of his sisters, Theresa. It is not necessary to have read the other series to enjoy this one but it is necessary to have read Kick, part one of the Songs of Perdition series before reading Use.

Once again, CD Reiss has pulled off another dark, edgy and wickedly uncomfortable ride in Use. We’re right back with the unholy triumvirate of Fiona, Deacon and Elliott that was first unleashed upon us in her usual unapologetic manner in Kick. Fiona is still institutionalised and suffering from amnesia, Elliott is still harbouring uncomfortable feelings for his patient and Deacon has yet to explain what happened that fateful day in the stables.

CD Reiss truly does have an uncanny knack of turning decidedly flawed and really rather dark characters into heroes and heroines that we just can’t get enough of. After all, no one is behaving particularly well here. Fiona is a sex addict, a drug addict and really not above using her considerable oral skills to get what she wants from other people. She’s ruled by her desire and any cock in a storm will do it seems – when she’s aroused, she’ll do just about anything and anyone to get herself off!

Elliott really ought to be behaving better – Fiona is his patient and he’s really only one hard-on away from ruining his career. All her stories of debauchery and sexual submission have awakened something in Elliott he never knew was there and now he is burning with desire for his very disturbed patient. He ought to be walking in the opposite direction. Fast. But he’s not – his curiosity is getting the better of him and he’s walking a fine line here. He’s darkly fascinated and mistrustful of Fiona’s dominant, Deacon.

Deacon, for his part is yet another deliciously dominant hero from CD Reiss. He’s still a bit of an enigma to us – we really only know him from flashbacks and yet what we do know is incredibly tantalising. The way he loves to dominate and knot Fiona into absolute submission is just mesmerising but he’s not above sharing her should the whim take him – he’s really not bothered who he allows to fuck her.

Despite all of this, it’s actually a delicious combination as CD Reiss takes us down a dark and sinister path that we’re powerless and really don’t want to resist. This is her usual dish of seduction, passion and love intensely delivered with her usual side order of snark. CD Reiss doesn't just publish books, she unleashes them upon an unsuspecting public and drags us into her dark and atmospheric world where it is entirely possible to lose oneself and never want to return.

The ending is ambiguous with several loose ends left to tie up so I suspect we will see more from this series eventually. For fans of the Songs of Submission series, Jonathan has a starring role to play here as we get to delve into a sordid little chapter of his history pre-Monica.

Another winner from CD Reiss – pure gold

Okay so I'm not sure what I think or what I feel about this one.. Is that normal?

I'm forgoing a review, because I just can't. I'm not even sure which H I like Deacon or Elliot? they both have something but also they don't. Does that make sense? But I find Deacon a bit more appealing than Elliot, why I just don't know maybe because the way she describes her feelings about him?

This series is so NOT something for me but I just needed to know what the hell happened in that stable! Now I know that now I need to know who gets her heart!

Ahhhh-maze-zing!!!

This story was everything thought it might be and everything I didn't think it could be. One thing is for sure, I'm more addicted to CDs writing more than ever and feeling like I'm crawling in my skin looking for the next piece to this mad, mad puzzle that is Fiona Drazen.
The series is a must read for readers of the Erotic romance genre, but make no mistake, this is brilliant storytelling and taps much deeper into the human psyche than the standard erotic read. The characters are deep and disturbed, some likable, some detestable , and all very entertaining! 5 "Fee-is-a-hot-mess" and in need of a master" stars. #TeamDeacon

5 MAGNIFICENT STARS

This was an awesome BR with the Canaries. All I can say is C.D. Reiss is truly a goddess of epic proportions; a beautifully gifted author!!!

I'm a total wreck after having read this. I’m all over the place trying to gather the pieces and sift through my thoughts, theories and emotions.

“I don’t want us to be used any more.”

description

I love CD's writing style, each word is carefully chosen for their meaning both literal and subtle (it’s a game for me to find the double entendres, puns or hidden meanings in her elegant prose). Her characters – I’m speechless to accurately describe how she has brilliantly brought the Drazen Clan to life – are so complex and well developed. Whether you love or hate them, you can’t deny you’re invested in their stories, in the secrets, the lies, the machinations, the sex, the love and the hate.

Use picks up right where Kick left off. Fiona Maura Drazen is still trying to remember stabbing her Master, Deacon Bruce. Dr. Elliot Chapman is still fighting his desire for Fiona as his professionalism and relationship hangs in the balance and Deacon…well, we get to see more of this strikingly enigmatic, dominant man. Although, not nearly enough.

 photo Use5_zps59083cf0.jpg

Fiona grapples with her desires for Elliot, her guilt at stabbing Deacon, her need to see Deacon and her messed up perception of herself as a worthless whore.

“He’d never be with a fuck-up sex addict, a druggie slave worthless whore camera-magnet like me. I’d never attract a man who was plain nice.”

 photo USe4_zps595805e2.jpg

Elliot, like Fiona, is fighting his inner demons and innate desires. Fiona wants to be “normal” (whatever that is) and so, as much as she needs and loves Deacon, a part of her is seeking an escape. Elliot is likely that escape because he seems “normal.” But I also think her attraction to him is partly because he believes in the good in her. Deacon sees her (all her dark, broken parts) but Elliot accepts her as whole.

Meanwhile, Elliot craves sexual dominance that he deems “not normal/deviant.” I wonder why he considered the path of God…was it to bury his urges and bath himself in goodness? To fight his darker wants? Fiona is the game changer for him. He wants her…I think his attraction to her is his undeniable craving to be who he is.

Deacon is a fascinating character and I need to learn more about him. It’s obvious he loves and cares for Fiona yet, I wonder what more there is to him? He sees them both as broken and that together they work.

 photo Use1_zps44078f0b.jpg

Finally, because this can’t go without being said…I'm lying in wait until the day that Warren gets what’s coming to him!

description

Like the exquisite storyteller she is, CD further weaves this intricate tale with threads from other Drazen stories and also lays down the possibility for future tales. I love experiencing all of this – it's coming together into a stunning masterpiece.

I will reread this as well as Kick as I eagerly await the third installment.

Use is the second book in the Songs of Perdition series. And I have to say C.D. Reiss gave it all again. That was intense.

Definition of Perdition: a state of final spiritual ruin; loss of the soul; damnation. This is where Fiona is, what she feels, what she thinks she deserves. She breaks my heart. Though she may ooze confidence and fearlessness she desperately needs to be valued as the true person she is…strong – brave – devoted. We have only scratched the surface of who Fiona truly is and I can’t wait for more.

The men ~

Deacon is such a beautiful man. I adore how he protects Fiona without question. The depth of his feelings for her run deep but I still wonder about him. I need to know more about him. At the moment I feel as though Fiona is his drug and he is her drug. Each using the other to get their “high”.

Elliot is a bit of a mystery too. His past doesn’t appear to be a simple one. What he sees in Fiona is different. It goes beyond sexual desire. And boy does he sexually desire her. His thoughts and his behavior is also one of control and dominance. But he wants her to see herself as he sees her, loyal, strong, trustworthy.

We do get some answers but left with more at the end. Getting more of the other (and younger) Drazen’s was great. They are all screwed up people but together they have the Drazen pledge….love that. I hope we get more of those from Westonwood. I wonder if Karen will be part of Fiona’s future and if Fiona will get her retribution against Warren. I HATE HIM.

I am Team Elliot. I honestly can’t explain why but there is something about him that has me intrigued. Is he the underdog? Maybe, maybe not? ❤

Use is the second book in the Songs of Perdition series and although book 1, Kick, made me quite uncomfortable, I was all too willing to hop onboard the CD Reiss train again. I’m so glad I did because this time around was better than the first and I enjoyed every moment of the fascinating, edgy journey.

Use picks up right where Kick left off. Fiona is still in the posh mental institution, having essentially been abandoned by Dr. Elliott and remitted for an extended stay. As she floats in a medicated fog, Fiona is obsessed with sexual fantasies of the good doctor. She’s now under the care of a female psychologist and none too pleased about it. When Fiona begins to recover memories of the night her dominant, Deacon, was stabbed, she refuses to talk to anyone but Elliott. Elliott, meanwhile, has been struggling with less than professional thoughts about Fiona, and against better judgment he agrees to treat her again.

I adore Fiona. She’s a mighty force of nature who makes no apologies for who she is. She’s waded through a crap ton of pain and there’s always a line of people ready to use her for sex. However, she’s a woman determined to be free and to succeed, and she knows how to wield sex as a weapon to get what she wants.

 photo FionaQuote_zpsxzwmajv5.jpg

We finally get to meet the mysterious Deacon and he’s so much more than I anticipated. Theirs is not a black or white, right or wrong relationship and their chemistry is palpable.

Use is told from the dual perspectives of Fiona and Elliott and I loved being able to get inside Elliott’s head. It was wonderful to discover the complexities of this conflicted man who was so guarded in the first book. All the sessions where Fiona intentionally baited him with dirty talk have finally caused Elliott to tap into his dominant side. He’s raw and vulnerable though, hurling himself toward a sexual precipice. Furthermore, he wants what he shouldn’t: not only a patient but another man’s woman. Elliott is totally consumed by erotic thoughts of Fiona. He’s one tiny step away from crossing over the doctor/patient line and throwing his career away.

Love! It! There are three things I can always count on in a CD Reiss book: compelling characters, a gripping story, and exquisite prose. Her words are deliciously seductive. I could feast on them for days and still want more. Use is no different. The book is so addictive I simply could not put it down. Who should Fiona choose? #TeamDeacon? #TeamElliott? Or perhaps #TeamFiona?

Use does not end on a cliffhanger; however, there is definitely an air of unfinished business. A third book is planned and I am anxious to read what CD Reiss imagines next.

Okay...like i need to say anything!!?? Yeah right!!!
...it was, Wow!
It was awesome...
f'ing perfect...i'm glad it doesn't end with some:
"I'm having a heart attack right now" cliffie
but i'm still biting my nails down till the next one is out!
I loved how we get to see young Jonathan (from Songs of Submission series) in Fionas story and he's own battles he had, or has to fight to become the man as we know him!

C.D. Reiss is one of my favorite authors and i recommend everyone to read her books....they are amazing!

Fiona....
Deacon...
Elliot...

let's see...

MY, OH MY, OH MY, OH MY!!!

Typically I would write the review right after I finish a book, but I waited for this one (not that it's doing me any good). Instead I read other reviews, and just kept going through the thoughts and discussion with the other Canaries in our BR. Because that's what this book encourages, a whole lot of discussion.

I feel like as I'm writing here that my review will be just as long as the book just because of all the things it evoked out of me. No, of course it won't be.

For a reader who tends to stay away from love triangles, I embraced this book wholeheartedly. It's a continuation of the tale of a messed up woman whose identity is practically tied to her sexuality who ended up where she is because she stabbed the man she loves who fills and meets her needs. And where she ended up is another man bent on helping her heal to a point that lines are getting crossed as he, himself, develops feelings for her which then awakens other things in him.

GAH!!!

I can honestly say that by the end, I truly didn't know what to feel. I was smiling like an idiot as I read the interactions among the Drazen siblings. My eyebrows were arching and my mind was going 'ooooh' as I was reading what Elliot is dealing with. My heartbeat started rising when Deacon made an appearance. My mouth was gasping as I learned what really happened that fateful night. And throughout the story, my fist was raising as I cheered Fiona's feistiness. And at the ending, my heart was breaking for Fiona as she struggled internally, finally coming to some kind of determination to move forward only to be fall back where she started.

GAH!!!

Between Elliot and Deacon, I'm seriously torn at this point as to which of these gentlemen I want her to end up with, because for me, they're almost like 2 sides of the same coin. They both want and think they know what's best for Fiona. And I get it.

We shook hands. He looked me in the eye. Two gentlemen trying to protect the same woman, probably from each other.

I just want Fiona to get her happy ending. I may end up eating my words later in the series, but right now, I think either one of those two will be fine, as long he loves her the way she should be loved.

Fiona's perspective aside, we saw a lot of Elliot here. I'm assuming Deacon will get his turn next. Cannot wait!!!!

In short, I love, love this series!!! And as always, I love, love the way CD weaves the story line with her poetic writing. (I know, I probably could have just said that in the beginning and be done with it, but where's the fun in that, eh?)

Just BRILLIANT, CD, BRILLIANT!!!!!

(And may I just add, another awesome BR with the Canaries, love!!!)

I'm not altogether sure quite what I think about this second instalment. It's well well-written and gripping reading but it has also left me feeling highly uncomfortable. At times It's not easy reading and Fiona's mindset and the things she processes as normal and ok are so out of the realm of relatable behaviour that it feels alien.

She also has a classic victim mindset taking and processing everything that happens internally and placing blame for everything on herself. She's a ticking time bomb awaiting detonation and she's already exploded once so it's just a matter of time for it to reoccur as her impulse control mechanism seems faulty. I'm also highly intrigued with how this is all going to end, especially regarding Deacon and Elliot. I appreciated the insights into Elliot's life and found his thought process and evolution fascinating.

This series it's definitely out of my comfort zone and very different to the stories I usually consume. Not in the sense of the content but all of the uncomfortable emotions it impacts in me. It's different that's for sure.

4.5 Enlightening Stars

Photobucket Pictures, Images and Photos

Use picks up right on the heels of Kick. Fiona is still a patient in a mental hospital, trying to put together the events that landed her there. Dr. Elliot attempts to put the story together via hypnosis but quickly is realizing his attachment to Fiona goes beyond patient/therapist boundaries.

We finally meet the elusive Master Deacon. Can he break through to Fiona where medicine can't?

I liked this installment better than the first book. I felt I had a better grasp on her story. I can't begin to empathize with Fiona as her shoes are difficult to fill but I'm starting to at least understand the broken soul behind the sex and drug addict. And she's heartbreaking.

As much as Deacon interests me, his POV never being heard thus far, in my heart I hope Fiona finds peace and healing

Use
ends in a HFN but her story is in no way complete. Looking forward to Fiona's future books...

And I thank you.

J&G: 4.5 Stars

Use is like taking a complete mind fuck trip into the abyss. CD Reiss uses hard hitting words like a weapon….she is able to lure you into a false sense of security using her words as a caress one minute then striking without warning the next. Her words are as exquisite as they are shocking. She manages to pull you in, tease you, taunt you and leave you gasping for more!

“I don’t want to be broken.”
He shook his head. “You don’t get to choose that.”

This story is evolving. The secrets are unfolding and there is so much we desperately want to know!

‘Everyone had a bucket inside, representing their capacity for pain. Some buckets were bigger than others and everyone maintained the overflow differently.’

Fiona will leave you exasperated, stunned, saddened and you’ll be left wondering just what the hell it was that got her to this point. Elliot….what a deep and fascinating character. We learn so much about this complex man as we begin to delve into his psyche. Deacon, wow! We saw this man in another light. Team Elliot? Team Deacon? We were so sure in Kick, now we have no bloody idea!

‘We shook hands. He looked me in the eye. Two gentlemen trying to protect the same woman, probably from each other.’

We will say this. Read the Songs of Submission series before moving onto Songs of Perdition. We feel as if we’ve cheated ourselves out of so much background information and opened ourselves to spoilers we would have rather experienced through the build-up of Songs of Submission.

CD Reiss’s writing is pure brilliance. There is no other word for it – superb. Every time we pick her stories up we know we’re in for one hell of an emotional and shocking ride. Just how we love them!

100% Fuck, fuck, fuck! I had to go do some chores and cry out that ending. I hate it when you're crying so hard you can't breathe. Poor god-damned Fee! Why did that happen?!

And boy was she wrong about Elliot. I loved Elliot's bravery in the end. Will Ethan's story continue? I love him for having the courage to say NO MORE and then to show up.

And Fee was wrong about Deacon. He will be trusting that she can give him enough. Or will they end up in the same space with her not needing to be "led around by her cunt." You know, I wonder why Deacon didn't just take her with him on these trips or as close as he could, give her a job, a meaning. Not having one is killing her. Also, it was the abandonment from her "wire parents" that made her depend on him so much.

Will she ever get the chance now to be strong on her own? Or did Fuckhead take that from her. Everyone goes on and on about how unbelievable strong Fiona is, yet she was taken down so swiftly. Sucks that it was right after her deciding to step out on and test her strength.

Lastly, that was a haunting image about the caterpillar shifting at the end. You'll get there Fiona!

I'm Team Everyone at the end of this! Mostly Team CD Reiss! She breaks my heart with every book she writes! That's a good thing, though.

Note/ Forgive this shredded review! I'm writing it just after finishing Use and I'm still crying a bit. *sniff*

Another brilliant work from CD Reiss. There's nothing she writes that I won't read but I have to say I didn't think I would connect with this character as deeply as I have. I love her serial format. At first I shied away from these bc it seemed like you wouldn't get much of a story and you might feel strung along but she packs so much in. I get so much out of what she weaves together in serial format. I often reread these and pickup new things. Her writing is flawless. I feel lucky to read it and be part of the wonderful Goodreads Group CD Canaries. Thank God - No Thank CD Reiss for the Drazens!!!
