Well hello yummy cowboy! Whew! The Rebel of Copper Creek was just brimming with delicious cowboys and military men. Gah, but I do love that combo! And I had a nice time with this one as Griff and Juliet end up spending quite a bit of time together when Juliet and her two little boys find themselves in a dangerous situation--someone is threatening her--and Griff decides to take it upon himself to keep them safe while the threat is eliminated. It was a sweet romance, a lovely setting and full of honest and good-to-their-souls people.
The set up was fantastic--Both Griff and Juliet are new to the area. She's inherited her husband's family ranch after he passed away and Griff's getting to know the family he never knew existed until his mother passed away and told him in one final letter who his father had been. It was sad and sweet at the same time watching them try to figure out their new lives and adjust to life on a ranch.
The romance--Was very light in my opinion and built slowly as Griff spent time with Juliet and her boys making sure they were safe from harm and slowly started helping around her ranch. They had an easy thing about them for the most part but could have their own little drama as they dealt with the past and guilt on her part from moving on after losing the husband she loved so dearly. But then they fell into place and were sweet and heart warming and adding the two little boys into the mix it was just a nice dynamic all around as the four of them found their 'family' and healed each other.
Griff was a great hero. He's handsome and has a solid strength about him. Is honorable and protective of those around him. He's also still adjusting to life with his new found family and figuring out his place. He was so damn sweet with Juliet's kids and with her too really. Always putting them first and just being a stand up guy.
Juliet wasn't bad either. She's been through a lot the last few years but instead of complaining when things get hard and life is beating her up she digs in and shoves back. I really liked that about her. She's making a place for herself, doing what she's passionate about--she provides horse therapy for injured soldiers where they can come and get out of their wheelchairs and ride horses--and was just a fantastic mama to her little boys.
The secondary characters--This is really just a great family that's surrounding Griff. They're warm and open. Caring. You can tell they love each other and have a huge sense of community. And they welcomed Juliet and her boys in an instant. It was hard not to love them and be a little jealous of the closeness they all had.
There was a very 50s sitcom sugary feel at times when the family is all together where you could almost hear the laugh track playing. It wasn't all the time--mainly just when they were all together at meals and teasing/laughing together. It wasn't a horrible thing just a little too sugary sweet when those moments hit for my taste.
the kids ages-- I really liked both of of Juliet's little boys but kids are so hard for me to read. One was 3 and one 6. I don't know...how much do three year olds talk? To me he seemed much older than his 3 years with the exception of an occasional mispronunciation of a word here or there. I don't know why that bothers me but it does a little.
Overall, The Rebel of Copper Creek was a touching story of finding your place, your inner strength and the people you call family. While it wasn't a perfect read for me it was still a lovely one and left me curious about the rest of the members of this family. I'm sure I'll be picking them up eventually. Ryan definitely knows how to bring a community and family to life in a way that makes you long to be a part of the group.
Saddle up, ladies. You want a sweet and swoony cowboy story? Here it is, beautifully written. I love this series.
So happy the newly discovered son of the MacKenzie family, Griff, got his own book! He is a sexy former Marine working on his father’s farm. You can't get any more manly than that. And, of course, he is a gentleman.
This story had me smiling for almost all of it. Of course, there has to be a little drama and jealousy on a ranch full of buff cowboys and a scarce amount of available women. The way Griff patiently fights his feelings for new ranch owner, Juliet is powerful and tear jerking. Along with two super adorable kiddos by her side, it makes it even cuter story. This is a perfect, romantic read with a fair amount of action.
Looking forward to another cowboy in the series....maybe self proclaimed playboy of the town, Whit? ~ Krissy, 5 (Romeo) stars

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and being a lover all things cowboy, I was very keen to get my hands on Griff's story... And I really enjoyed it suspense, the romance and the, you know, cowboy-ness of it. What? Totally a word!
After eight years as a Marine, learning the land and his new brothers is more than enough for Griff Warren, a man that grew up with no family.
Juliet Grayson is struggling with her new life in Copper Creek. Widowed and with two young sons, Juliet is determined to do something useful with the land she inherited from her husband.
But when she meets broody, kind Griff, she's drawn to him in a way she wasn't expecting. And when danger come looking for her, she find herself leaning on him for support. Can they let go of their pasts and face the future together?
The Rebel of Copper Creek was a really enjoyable read - one I enjoyed even more than its predecessor. It was a mixture of mystery and romance, and I have to say, although I figured it out early on, I really enjoyed the back-and-forth as the characters tried to make sense of what was happening. Unfortunately for me, there wasn't much movement on the mystery that carried over from book one though. I was most definitely hoping for more answers.
Griff was a highlight for me from The Maverick of Copper Creek, and RC Ryan did an excellent job of padding-out his backstory and making him gruff but lovable, serious but kind, and completely swoon-worthy. He was well matched with Juliet, who frustrated me at times with her indecision, but admired for her strength. Their chemistry with each and with her boys was spot on and very endearing.
Once again, the fun and interesting secondary characters shared their insights and this go around, I found it to added to the story rather than distract from it. There was a fantastic balance between Griff and Juliet, and the rest of the Copper Creek crew. I can't wait for more from these cowboys (and their mysteries) and I'll be waiting for the next book with bated breath.
The Rebel of Copper Creek second book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series. It can be read standalone. No cliffhanger. ~ Beth, 4.5 stars
WOW! What can I say, I mean I didn't know what to expect. So, we have arrived at book two in Copper Creek Cowboy. I honestly thought there would be a little more talk about Bear's death or more clues reveal about his death. Not really. However, The Rebel of Copper Creek focuses more on Juliet and Griff. Not only that it focuses on a saying: "Every road we've taken leads us to where we need to be now." Yet at the beginning, Juliet and Griff would probably disagree on that saying. As the story progress they start to understand that what they went through was a journey to bring them together.
So, we have Griff who is still trying to find his way and not sure where he fits in. Even though the MacKenzie have welcoming him in with open arms, he's still not sure if it's real. After all, all he really crave was a family and now that he has one he's unsure of himself. Then you have Juliet who is young widow. Let me say that when I read Widow Grayson I conjured up someone old. So, when Griff meets Juliet he's not the only one surprise to find how young she happens to be.
I liked The Rebel of Copper Creek, because we have two people that trying to find their way in Copper Creek. Not only that Juliet is trying to live her life and still keep the memory of her decease husband alive. Basically, she's afraid to move on. So, we watch Juliet walking this fine line of trying to figure out how to live and not forget the memory. That was interesting to watch. The other interesting part was the trouble that was happening at Juliet's place. I have to say that I liked how the author made it seem like it was one particular person. I thought it was clever. Overall, I have to say that I'm impress with the story and love that it actually build to a pretty dramatic ending. So, if you are looking for a well written story that will keep you entrance, you might give The Rebel of Copper Creek a try.
Very good book, filled with love, family, friendship and a bit of mystery. Griff grew up never knowing who his father was and resenting it. He had a temper as a kid, which got him into a lot of trouble. When he grew up he joined the Marines, giving him a sense of belonging. Shortly before she died, his mother contacted Griff's father and told him about Griff, but before they could meet, Bear MacKenzie was murdered. However, Bear's wife and two sons welcomed Griff into the family with open arms. After leaving the Marines, Griff settled into learning how to be a rancher and part of a family.
Juliet is a widow with two young sons. Her husband had been a Navy pilot who died months after injuries received in a crash. He left his family's ranch to Juliet and his sons. She is determined to preserve the ranch, and starts by turning it into a therapy ranch for wounded veterans. She has more than enough to keep her busy and no desire to add a new man into her life.
Griff and Juliet meet through one of her therapy patients who is a former comrade of Griff's. The first meeting doesn't go all that well as she mistakes him for someone else. But under the antagonism is an instant attraction that neither one can deny, though both try to resist. Juliet feels guilty and disloyal to her late husband every time that she feels something for Griff. At the same time, his obvious connection with her sons warms her heart and makes her dream of what could be. Griff sees a bit of himself in her two boys, making him want to be there for them. He also finds himself wanting to make things easier for Juliet and discovers a growing sense of rightness the more time he spends with her. When threats and acts of vandalism put her and the boys in danger, Griff's sense of protectiveness steps in to take care of the family.
I loved Griff. I ached for him as a kid with the anger issues caused by his feelings of abandonment. I understood his need to confront his father. I really enjoyed seeing him take to the ranch life. I loved how he accepts and has been accepted by his new family. He's still feeling his way a little bit, since he's never had anything like it before. There are several great scenes with his brothers and grandfather, where the love and respect are obvious under the laughter and teasing. He was a bit stunned by the strength of his attraction to Juliet. I also loved seeing him with Ethan and Casey. He always seemed to know just how to talk to them. Best of all was his determination to look out for Juliet. He was a bit surprised by how deep the need was. It was sweet to see how he quickly came to put their needs ahead of his own. I loved seeing him bring her into the loving embrace of the MacKenzies.
Juliet was great, too. She hasn't had it easy over the last several years. Taking care of her husband after his injuries, with a three year old son and pregnant with another had left her reeling after his death. She was determined to follow his wishes and raise his boys on the family ranch, even though she knew nothing about ranching. She has a giving nature, which leads her to turn part of the ranch into a place of therapy for wounded warriors. She has shut herself off from any new relationships, first because she would feel guilty, and second because loving and losing is just too hard. She's overwhelmed by everything that needs doing, but she digs in and does her best. She has a bit of temper of her own, as shown in her initial meeting with Griff, but mostly she's pretty even-keeled. She's a terrific mom who puts her kids needs ahead of her own. She also has a good sense of humor and a kind heart, which shows in her dealings with her wounded warriors.
I loved the development of the relationship between Griff and Juliet. The chemistry is hot from the first, and it takes a bit for Griff to realize he needs to back off a little or risk scaring her off completely. Juliet fights what is growing between them because of her fear of moving on. Trying to keep things to just friends has the opposite effect. I loved seeing the boys' efforts to make Griff part of the family, as his frequent presence on her ranch begins to feel normal. Even when she tried to push him away, Juliet would end up getting closer. As the strange things happened on her ranch, she found herself more willing to lean on his strength and accept his help. It took a little while for each of them to accept what they were feeling, then they had to find the courage to speak up. I loved Griff's big moment at the end, and his inclusion of Ethan and Casey.
There is also some trouble that wends its way through the book. First is the ongoing mystery behind the murder of Bear MacKenzie. It is mentioned in this book, but there is no progress toward the resolution of it. The main mystery is the trouble that Juliet is experiencing. There is a wrangler that makes unwanted advances, and makes threats after his attempts are thwarted. Threatening phone calls and vandalism on the ranch have everyone on edge until the man can be caught. Then her son Ethan is kidnapped. Everyone thinks they know who it is, until an unexpected twist shows a different player altogether. I suspected this one was going to be trouble, but didn't expect that much. The final confrontation was intense and very scary. I loved how it was Griff's Marine experience that helped him save the day. There was also a brief mention of the family lawyer's son and some papers, where I got the feeling there was something more going on. I didn't like him at all.
There is something special about a contemporary western. They tug at the wild side of us. They make us dream of open ranges and sexy cowboys.. preferably together on a sizzling summer night *grins*.
The Rebel of Copper Creek satisfies that dream and just left me lusting for more. This was my first RC Ryan book.. and ladies (and gents) I simmered. But there was so much more to this book than some sort of sensual satisfaction. What it offered was connections, family, friends and community. And that is always a joy.
Rebel is the second book in Ms. Ryan's Copper Creek Cowboys Series.. and it's yet another reason why I left the city and moved to Wyoming.. Ok, they are fantasy but the attitude, the community connection is based on reality. Western hospitality and all that. So my theory is, if the communities can be realistic.. then maybe.. *grins* yeah, dream on!
Juliet Grayson married a cowboy.. ok married a military pilot who wanted to return to his home town and run his ranch. Only life didn't work that way and Juliet was left a young widow with two small sons and no idea how to run a ranch. But she was determined to run not just the ranch but a therapy ranch for wounded vets. Too bad someone is out to get her.
Griff Warren has spent most of his life wondering who his father was. When his mother was dying she contacted his father and set things in motion. Sending Griff off to discover where he came from. Only to discover that his father had been murdered.. but the rest of the family welcomed him with open arms. The community thinks of him as Bear's other son.. that's just who he is. Griff has never felt this comfortable. When he runs into a marine buddy, who is part of the wounded warriors therapy that Juliet is running (one of her Romeos) Griff is curious enough to stop by and check it out. What he finds is one sexy single mom trying to do too much..
Griff and Juliet struggle to define their relationship, Juliet suffers from widow's guilt and Griff isn't sure he is relationship material. BUT.. even though they feel connected, feel the attraction both are leary to move forward.
Then the problems start and Griff feels the need to offer Juliet and her delightful boys protection. Either the protection of his family or himself..
While Juliet and Griff are unwittingly falling in love, Both learn the amazing concept of community. That they are not alone and that there is always someone there for them, if they let them in.
The trouble that comes to Juliet weaves well into the story. It's an intricate dance between desire and destruction. Juliet and Griff are a wonderful eye of the story.. it's not calm but it is beautiful.
Loved it!!

This review is based on the ARC of The Rebel of Copper Creek, provided by netgalley.
Military man turned cowboy is my “book dream” come true. This was my first read from K.C Ryan and it will not be my last. The Rebel of Copper Creek was very sweet and beautifully written love story plus I loved the secondary characters as much as the main ones.
Having lived his life never knowing his father and just growing up he and his mom, Former Marine Griff Warren just gained an entire family. Finding out the his father has died, without ever getting the chance to meet to him, he learns he not only inherited land but brothers. He is not alone after all. This alone would throw any man for a loop but when he meets beautiful, sweet and independent widow Juliet Grayson his life goes in a tailspin.
Juliet Grayson is not looking for love. Not even close….all she is trying to do is stay afloat. After losing her husband, Buddy, she moves from the city to take over caring for his family ranch. Juliet wants to give her boys a small piece of their dad and start a rehab facility for wounded vets.
One chance encounter in a bar leads Griff right to Juliet’s door. Though their first meeting isn’t the greatest, there is no denying their chemistry. When someone starts threatening her and the boys safety Griff and the entire MacKenzie crew do everything in their power to protect them.
The Rebel of Copper Creek really is great story in all the ways possible a story should be great. Juliet is strong, independent and loves her boys above all else but she is still a woman. I loved seeing that vulnerability in her. Griff is rough around the edges but he not stupid enough to not notice a good thing when he sees it. I love how he goes after Juliet as only a sexy cowboy can. The only thing I loved more than Griff and Juliet was the MacKenzie family. Both Griff and Juliet are without family coming in but the MacKenzie’s embrace them as one of their own and they all help each other heal from different things. It really was a story to pull on your heart strings. Grumpy old family patriarch Mad had to be my favorite.
I hope we get a bit more of all them in Legacy since I really want to be see them all be happy. I will definitely be reading Maverick so I can see where it all starts and definitely seek out miss Ryan again to fill my need for a sexy, sweet take charge cowboy. A definite must read if you love a good western love story like me.

A heartwarming tale of the MacKenzie family, their ranch and neighbors and how they band together to take care of not only each other but others they care about and take into their fold. How they took Griff under their wing and immediately made him a part of their family was a testament of their character. They embraced Juliet and her sons, Ethan and Casey, and that was refreshing and inspiring. A quick read with lots of action, well developed and beloved characters and a family rich in the land of Montana with the MacKenzie ranch being their heritage and also what made them who they are. The prologue set the stage and the epilogue tied up the loose ends and gave closure.
Throughout the story we got to know the MacKenzies – Mad, Willow, Ash, Brenna, Whit and Griff along with their housekeeper, Myrna and ranch foreman, Brady – and the Graysons who live in the neighboring ranch, Juliet and her sons. There is a depth to each of them and we get to know them little by little and also who and what molded them. Mad’s son, Willow’s husband, and Ash, Whit and Griff’s father, Bear, is deceased but is still part of their lives in many ways and his story is woven throughout. There are many twists and turns to the story, some good and some not so good, but everyone rallies together in good times and bad to get done what they need to. Watching the interactions I could feel the love and esteem that they held for each other. The kitchen was the heart of their home and a lot of discussions and meals happened there. Ethan and Casey were a cute addition to the story and they needed Griff and Mad in their lives as much as they needed the boys. Watching Ethan become whole again was gratifying. There are tears, fears, hurts, sadness, crimes committed, laughter, happiness, family and friends, lots of wounded veterans, the ranch, ranch hands, romance and lots and lots of love. The descriptions of the homes, the ranches and the lands were vivid and made me feel that I was there.
The Rebel of Copper Creek is reminiscent to me of western romances by Linda Lael Miller, Janet Dailey and Diana Palmer to name a few authors I enjoy. R.C. Ryan is a new to me author and her books will be added to my always growing TBR pile. Not only books one and three in the Copper Creek Cowboy series, The Maverick of Copper Creek and The Legacy of Copper Creek, respectively but also those in the Wyoming Sky series and the McCord series. I can’t wait to read them all!
Favorite Quote: There was the old man’s hope. The hope that though his son was gone now, here were three grandsons, all with different backgrounds and dreams for their future, yet they were pulling together to make his dream come true.
This is the second book in the Copper Creek series and we learn about Griff Warren who is the other son of Bear McKenzie that no one knew about until Bear's death but his now new brothers accepted him into the family just like he had always been there. It was because Griff was a Marine and was used to working hard and joining the others when they needed him. He was willing to learn but he had a hard time believing that he now had a family after all the years with only him and his mother. Juliet Grayson was a widow with two young son who was trying to work her husband's ranch but with only herself and her foreman, she was having a hard time. Griff met Juliet through one of his Marine buddies who had been injured during the war. His buddy was attending a therapy session at Juliet's ranch where she had equipment to help wheelchair bound cowboys back onto a horse again. It didn't take much for Griff to realize just how hard Juliet was working and that there were men who only saw her as a beautiful woman to conquer and not one to appreciate. This is a loving, caring and heartwarming story about two little boys who needed someone to look up to and a woman who was trying her best to make it alone.
It was only Griff Warren and his mom while he was growing up. Now Griff is part of a family he never knew. Readily accepted by his brother's, he now has a place to belong, to be part of the legacy his father left behind. He's got enough to deal with. He doesn't have time for a relationship, until he meets Juliet Grayson and her two sons.
Juliet is a widow, raising her two sons, one traumatized by his father's death. She's trying to keep his ranch going, and make it more, offering wounded veterans a chance to ride and feel normal for a bit. Griff meets Juliette when he accepts an invitation to join the group.
Griff is enchanted by both Juliette and her boys. He sees the work the ranch needs and takes it upon himself to help her out. When strange incidents lead to danger for both mother and boys, Griff takes it upon himself to be their protector.
Juliette is a strong woman, she doesn't really have a choice. She's not sure she wants his help. Griff is pretty stubborn himself. I loved the way he interacted with the boys, especially Ethan whose trauma has led to him to stop speaking. It was his relationship with the boys that made the book for me.
THE REBEL OF COPPER CREEK is a wholesome contemporary western with a single window and her two young boys trying to live on her late husband’s ranch with no ranching experience.
Griff has had his own trials in life and when they meet, neither of them are looking for a relationship. However several sinister turns of events bring out the protector in Griff I liked the whole story especially how Griff took to the young boys who lost their father.
What a wonderful book. The characters are just awesome as is the storyline, with moments of intrigue and romance with a dash of laughter. lots of interesting things to learn about veterans and their life. It’s so much fun to reada series ! thank you
I thought this was okay. I really like Griff and Juliet, but I'm not sure about them together. There wasn't a lot of relationship development for them.
The Rebel Of Copper Creek is the second book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series and it is every bit as good as the first book. In this book we get to know Griff better and see his story unfold.
Griff has returned from Afghanistan after finding out that the father he never knew he had has been killed. He has been accepted into the MacKenzie family completely and he is adjusting to being part of a family and all that goes with it. While in town one night with his brother he meets a fellow veteran, Jimmy, that he knew from Afghanistan. He tells Griff about a group of disabled veterans who spend time at a ranch doing riding therapy. He invites Griff to come and check it out. When Griff does, he meets the widow Grayson and her two young sons.
Juliet Grayson has had her share of hardship. She lost her husband, after caring for him when he became disabled. She is left alone with her two sons on a ranch that she does not know how to care for. She wants to offer riding therapy to those who are disabled and do whatever she can to help them. But the ranch is run down and needs a lot of work, The hydraulic lift she needs to give the therapy is broken. Most days she does not know how she is going to ever make the farm work and take care of her sons. Then she meets Griff and her whole life changes.
When Griff meets Juliet’s sons, he sees himself as a child growing up without a father. He knows what a tough life that is and he finds himself drawn to them and wanting to protect them and make their lives easier. He is very impressed with their mother too and finds he wants to spend more and more time with them all. When Juliet begins to get threatening phone calls and unwanted male attention, Griff becomes the family protector. Juliet is attracted to Griff but she feels she is being unfaithful to her late husband and feels much guilt.
The characters are well rounded, realistic and three dimensional. Griff and Juliet are people who have tragedy in their past but know they need to fight for what they want. The two little boys added a lightheartedness to the story that I found refreshing. The whole MacKenzie family takes care of their own and their neighbors and friends. I think that this is a realistic portrayal of western towns and I enjoy reading about the close knit group. It made me want to be a part of their family or friends with them. The family dynamics make this book such a good read.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very descriptive and it is easy to be pulled into the setting. I could almost smell the food and hear the hammers pounding and see the beautiful setting. There is mystery carried on through much of the book concerning who is threatening Juliet and I found myself turning pages as fast as I could to see what would happen next. There are some twists and turns that will have you guessing and the mystery resolution is very well done.
This book has a little bit of everything: mystery, suspense, romance, humor, family loyalty and hope. All of these are blended together perfectly. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a romance that offers so much more. I would suggest reading the first book in the series, The Maverick Of Copper Creek, because you can really get to know the characters so much better. I am hoping in book three we will find out the identity of Bear MacKenzie’s murderer. I also hope that we see some romance for the MacKenzie matriarch. Treat yourself and read this series.

I am loving this series and this author!! Won this book on Goodreads, lucky me! I read the first book in this series ... well because it was first. The Maverick of Copper Creek as awesome, and this second book did not disappoint. It is official, I am a fan of this author.
Griff Warren grew up not knowing who his father was. It was not until his mothers death that he learns the truth. His mother never told his father she was pregnant. Now after his mother death the man that fathered him wants to claim him. Griff plan to meet him and confront him on breaking his mothers heart. But before Griff get the opportunity, Bear Mackenzie is murdered. When Griff shows up at the ranch his fathers wife and two sons are in shock over his resemblance to their lost patriarch.
Griff is lost in a sea of emotions. He never had a family, it was only him and his mother. Now he is trying to adjust to having two younger brothers, a step mother and a grandfather he inherited along with a piece of the land the love and live on. Griff soon learns this family is more than he ever expected. In the beginning the acceptance to his presence in their lives is slow moving, but soon Griff is feeling the loss of a man he never knew, but admires and the acceptance of the family he left behind. A man his resemblance to give him pride.
Juliet Grayson is dealing with her own set of emotions. After the death of her military husband, she is left to raise their two young sons alone. Her six year old son, Ethan, has not spoken in the three years since her husbands death, and her three year old son, Casey, never knew his father. She does what her husband would have wanted her to do. She bring them back to his family ranch so her kids can grow up in the house their fathered lived in as a young boy. Only she is a city girl and has no idea how to run a ranch. She intended to turn part of the ranch into a therapy for wounded soldiers.
Griff is invited by a Marine buddy he served with to check out the ranch and see what the widow is doing for the veterans who go there. Griff takes him up on his offer, and what he finds is not at all what he expected. He show up to find the farm in need a many repairs as well as the lift Juliet uses to assist the veterans onto the horses. Although, their first meeting was not the best, Griff finds himself drawn to this beautiful woman and her sons. When Juliet is threatened and her ranch and equipment vandalized, Griff brings her into the fold of the Mackenzie family. There she and most importantly, her sons find a piece of their lives they were sorely missing. Although, Juliet fights her initial attraction to Griff the chemistry they share over powers them both.
But when her son is kidnapped by a deranged man out for vengeance, Juliet is willing to risk her own life in orders to save him. A life she was beginning to hope Griff played a huge part in. Now its up to her to save her son and the future she could have with Griff.
I am so looking forward to read the next book in this series as well as pick up more from this author. Her stories are well written and just the right amount of suspense, mystery and romance. Although, I thought there would be more of the Bear murder plot unveiled, I was disappointed in the absence of that storyline. Look forward to seeing how it all plays out. Highly recommended, book and Author both.

Former Marine Griff Warren never thought he'd settle down. Rebellious and proud, he's always been on his own . . . until the father he never knew he had died, leaving him with land that is his legacy and brothers to share the load. He doesn't need more than that. But Juliet touches something deep inside him—and he wants nothing more than to protect her and her sons. Now if only he can convince her to take a second chance at true love.
This is the 2nd book in the Copper Creek series. In the first book right off we learn that Bear Mackenzie has been murdered. Part of that book is spent with the why and how and who done it. The rest is the fact that Bear had another son he didn't know about until right before his death. That son shows up at the ranch as he is left a share of it in the will. Of course we also got the story of Ash MacKenzie one of the other brothers along with the back story of Bear and his lost son who is Griff Warren. Now in book 2 we are still looking for Bear's killer but we are finding out more about Griff. A former Marine he found out just a little too late that Bear MacKenzie was his father. The family welcomes him like he is one of them. Learning ranching is hard and rewarding work for Griff but being a Marine he is no stranger to hard work. On the invitation of a old military buddy he is invited to join him on the Grayson ranch. From what he hears the place is being run by a widow with her two small boys as a therapy ranch but the whole place is falling apart. Meeting Juliet Grayson and her boys does something to Griff. He can't keep from reaching out to her and her little boys are hard on his heart. I absolutely loved this book. Juliet's husband was also in the military and he died after a tragic accident and months of therapy. Now 3 years later she is on his families ranch with her boys ages 3 and 6 trying to survive and fulfill his last wishes. Griff is attracted to her but does his best to honor her wishes of going slow but neither one can push back the attraction they feel for each other. No one can quite bowl you over like the MacKenzie family does as they throw in behind Griff to help Juliet get on her feet. There is of course a little danger lurking in Copper Creek and just when you think you know who is to blame there's a twist to throw you off. R.C. Ryan really did a number on me with this book. I just love Griff. He is everything a woman could hope for in a man and more. Many heart clenching moments from cover to cover.
Have you ever watched a movie and the entire time you're thinking "These actors are amazing. I really wish this script was better for them!"? This thought ran through my mind at least 3 times while reading this book.
First lets meet Griff Warren. A veteran and newbie to the Mackenzie family, he has been one of my favorite characters in this series. Strong, honest, and trying desperately to find his place in a world that doesn't seem to have one for him, Griff is easy to love and cheer for. I was his champion and biggest fan after knowing him for only a couple of pages in this series' first book, The Maverick of Copper Creek.
Our heroine, Juliet Grayson, is my favorite kind of heroine. Strong, independent, and quite witty, she is a mother of two young boys, and a widow. Recently she found herself the sole owner of a Montana ranch that she has no idea how to run but she is trying to use it in a way that would honor her late husband, also a veteran. Through all of this she walks in grace and manages to survive in a way that is quite rare for romance novel heroines. Lets just say she has more strength in her pinky toe than I can even imagine. It's really no surprise she attracts Griff, hero and all around good guy.
Now that you have a brief understanding of the cool cats we're dealing with, is it easier to understand why a few cheesy or poorly timed lines are sticking in my craw? These characters are built for greatness. They have everything I could ask for and the world that is built around them should deserve them. So when emotional scenes go on a little too long, predictable red herrings are walking around undeterred, and over-used relationship development hurtles are lurking around every corner you'll find me sighing and huffing so loudly and frequently that my husband asks me to read in another room.
So, here I am again. Desperately waiting for the next book in the series because R.C. Ryan can build a character that makes me cry, but I wait knowing that I am probably going to struggle with the plot and have to sit through some cheesy scenes.
*shrug*
I guess I'm just sad that these books haven't been the perfect package. They have the potential. It's right there. We're so close.
:::sits and eagerly waits for The Legacy of Copper Creek....begrudgingly:::
The Rebel of Copper Creek by R.C. Ryan is a sweet and contemporary cowboy romance that will capture your heart. It is the second book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series, and is every bit as good as the first book. Juliet Grayson is a widow with two young sons and has inherited a ranch from her late husband. Griff Warren is a former Marine who discovers that the dad he has never met has passed on. Land and two young brothers are what his father are entrusted to him. Both characters struggle with what life has thrown at them.Together they will face trails that will come to define them. Tragedy has shaped them but it won't hold them back from love and life. It will take Juliet and Griff working together to protect Juliet's family from a dangerous man.
I have received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
The Rebel of Copper Creek: R.C. Ryan: A Good Read..
The Rebel Of Copper Creek is the second book in the Copper Creek Cowboys series: A love story worth fighting for. But, it falls a little short in plot and scene development. The characters Griff Warren, A veteran of whom just returned from Afghanistan after finding out that the father he never knew he had has been killed. The heroine, Juliet Grayson: she is strong and independent and you are sure to love. The characters are bigger than the story itself. However, it’s a good and enjoyable read.
Reread. The big family who overcome troubles are fun. Present-day.Griff leaves Marines. His dying mum finally connects with his dad, too late, Bear was murdered. The MacKenzie family welcomes the lost son and teaches him ranching. Next door neighbour Juliet has lift for raising from wheelchairs to horses, She has two toddler sons, silent Ethan and chatterbox Casey. Their dad Buddy, ranch owner, died in an accident while Casey still wrapped. Two villains keep Griff and Juliet apart.
Juliet is a widow who is now working her husband's ranch. Along comes Griff who is an ex Marine. Juliet has no intention of any love she is working hard and taking care of her two boys. He takes it upon himself to keep them safe while danger lurks. A very touching story of love and trust.
This is my first taste of R C Ryan. I fell in love with the characters as soon as I started reading, and am so glad I found this book. I will now be looking for all of her books. I would recommend it.
