Although she writes under the pen name J.K. Rowling, pronounced like rolling, her name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply Joanne Rowling. Anticipating that the target audience of young boys might not want to read a book written by a woman, her publishers demanded that she use two initials, rather than her full name. As she had no middle name, she chose K as the second initial of her pen name, from her paternal grandmother Kathleen Ada Bulgen Rowling. She calls herself Jo and has said, "No one ever called me 'Joanne' when I was young, unless they were angry." Following her marriage, she has sometimes used the name Joanne Murray when conducting personal business. During the Leveson Inquiry she gave evidence under the name of Joanne Kathleen Rowling. In a 2012 interview, Rowling noted that she no longer cared that people pronounced her name incorrectly.
Rowling was born to Peter James Rowling, a Rolls-Royce aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling (née Volant), on 31 July 1965 in Yate, Gloucestershire, England, 10 miles (16 km) northeast of Bristol. Her mother Anne was half-French and half-Scottish. Her parents first met on a train departing from King's Cross Station bound for Arbroath in 1964. They married on 14 March 1965. Her mother's maternal grandfather, Dugald Campbell, was born in Lamlash on the Isle of Arran. Her mother's paternal grandfather, Louis Volant, was awarded the Croix de Guerre for exceptional bravery in defending the village of Courcelles-le-Comte during the First World War.
Rowling's sister Dianne was born at their home when Rowling was 23 months old. The family moved to the nearby village Winterbourne when Rowling was four. She attended St Michael's Primary School, a school founded by abolitionist William Wilberforce and education reformer Hannah More. Her headmaster at St Michael's, Alfred Dunn, has been suggested as the inspiration for the Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
As a child, Rowling often wrote fantasy stories, which she would usually then read to her sister. She recalls that: "I can still remember me telling her a story in which she fell down a rabbit hole and was fed strawberries by the rabbit family inside it. Certainly the first story I ever wrote down (when I was five or six) was about a rabbit called Rabbit. He got the measles and was visited by his friends, including a giant bee called Miss Bee." At the age of nine, Rowling moved to Church Cottage in the Gloucestershire village of Tutshill, close to Chepstow, Wales. When she was a young teenager, her great aunt, who Rowling said "taught classics and approved of a thirst for knowledge, even of a questionable kind," gave her a very old copy of Jessica Mitford's autobiography, Hons and Rebels. Mitford became Rowling's heroine, and Rowling subsequently read all of her books.
Rowling has said of her teenage years, in an interview with The New Yorker, "I wasn’t particularly happy. I think it’s a dreadful time of life." She had a difficult homelife; her mother was ill and she had a difficult relationship with her father (she is no longer on speaking terms with him). She attended secondary school at Wyedean School and College, where her mother had worked as a technician in the science department. Rowling said of her adolescence, "Hermione [a bookish, know-it-all Harry Potter character] is loosely based on me. She's a caricature of me when I was eleven, which I'm not particularly proud of." Steve Eddy, who taught Rowling English when she first arrived, remembers her as "not exceptional" but "one of a group of girls who were bright, and quite good at English." "Will you look at this? I've got some presents!"Harry Potter is so excited to spend his first Christmas away from his horrible Aunt and Uncle and what a holiday this will be! Hogwarts doesn't do anything by halves!
"What did you expect, turnips?"
Harry's best friend Ron, and Ron's brothers (Fred, George, and Percy) are all staying as well. They spend the day toasting food by the fireplace, playing in the snow and feasting in the great hall.
"Tell yeh what, come with me an' see the Great Hall, looks a treat."
The hall looked spectacular. Festoons of holly and mistletoe hung from the walls and no less than twelve towering Christmas trees stood around the room ...
And (of course) we can's forget the presents!
At the end of the day, Harry's heart (and stomach) is full and happy. He's surrounded by people who love and care for him and it is the best Christmas he has ever had.
"Every year she makes us a sweater," Ron said unwrapping his own, "and mine's always maroon."
OH.MY.GOSH. This was EVERYTHING I wanted in a Harry Potter Christmas book.
The adaptor did a great job of keeping the core events of the original book but parsing them down into picture-book-text.
The story was so sweet and kept true to the original text but you don't need to read the Sorcerer's Stone in order to enjoy the holiday picture book.
The pictures? I need a freaking minute.
They were everything I hoped for. Now, they aren't Jim Kay (who truly elevated the illustrated version of the Harry Potter books) and yet they were still wonderful.
Great use of color throughout the book and the characters' mannerisms and expressions were really well done.
If you are Harry Potter fan and have a little one in your life, then this book is a perfect Christmas present.
I'm crossing my fingers that they'll release a Halloween one next!!!

“You, too,” said Harry. Will you look at this? I’ve got some presents!”
Harry Potter. 🥰 The Harry Potter series will always be my top favorite. It's the most magical relationship I've ever had with a story. Brings back memories of waiting in line for hours at book release festivals in LA & NYC, and the opening night of each movie. (I love you Snape!)

This is wild !!!! An abridged version of chapter twelve of Sorcerer’s Stone, with the major book specific plots cut (minus Invisibility Cloak), but descriptions of Hogwarts Christmas kept intact. This is the original text, nothing new is added… but the imagery is to DIE FOR !!! I personally LOVE the art and character style that they went with here and think that it makes the story SOAR. This is the exact type of illustrations that I would KILL to see a Harry Potter graphic novel in, and as an adult who grew up with the books and a librarian who conducts story times… this is pure magic. I know some will view as a cash grab, but I simply love seeing illustrations of the Wizarding World and these are stunning. It’s a really really cool thing that they did reimagining the chapter and condensing the magic into a storybook format. This is a lot more manageable for bedtime than the huge illustrated versions, and a great way to include little ones wanting to keep up in the Harry Potter fun. 20/10 illustrations. Magical. The text was really nothing special in this chopped up context, but can’t emphasize the pictures enough!!!

Don’t let the the vast sea of multi colored hair, anime obsessed “they and thems". coddeled by their sanctimonious woke parents who think activism is virtue-signaling on social media ruin THE MAGIC for you or your children
Just watch the thems cope in the review section cause jealous, purposeless and rootless, Haters gonna hate, potatoes gonna potate, roaches gonna rotate.

Christmas at Hogwarts ... is there anything that feels more cozy? I think not, so of course I had to get this book when its publication was announced!
This is basically most of the Christmas chapter from book 1, with a few things left out. We do get the trees, the presents, the games, the food, and (most importantly) the companionship though, so we have everything we need for a perfec Christmas.
Since HP's original illustrator, Jim Kay, has had to take a break, this book was illustrated by Ziyi Gao, a Chinese illustrator now living in Canada.
She did a very good job, especially with the animals, buildings, trees etc., though I thought the kids looked too old (since this takes place during book 1) and the Asian style that shone through wasn't 100% to my liking - though I'm fully aware that is probably because I spent the last xxx years looking at Jim Kay's version (it's like trying to listen to Jim Dale's version of the audiobooks, it just doesn't work).
All in all, nothing new from a story perspective, but new and highly enjoyable illustrations that wonderfully illustrate (see what I did there?) everything nice about Christmas! :D
P.S.: I hope this one will be successful enough that we'll get something similar for Halloween! ;)

Svi znamo koliko je sve vezano uz najpoznatijeg čarobnjaka genijalno, zar ne? U slikovnici „Božić u Hogwartsu“ J.K. Rowling imamo jedan mali segment u kojem je sačuvan pravi dječji trenutak proživljenog Božića.

Книжка тонка, тексту у ній на 10 хвилин читання. Основну увагу тут привертають ілюстрації. Прикріпила кілька фото, щоб ви могли їх оцінити 👀

Letto tutto d’un fiato nell’edizione italiana, edito da Salani, “Natale a Hogwarts” altro non è se non il capitolo dedicato alla mattina di Natale in “Harry Potter e la pietra filosofale”. Arricchito dalle bellissime ed eteree illustrazioni dell’artista cinese Ziyi Gao, torniamo con un po’ di nostalgia al momento in cui Harry riceve il famigerato Mantello dell’Invisibilità, prima di scoprire il valore e la grandiosità di quel dono.
Per ora, lui, Ron e gli altri fratelli Weasley, sono ancora dei ragazzi spensierati e felici di aver ricevuto i loro doni.
Perfetto per una breve lettura, mentre si sorseggia una tazza di té 🎄

Vianoce v Rokforte si nekúpite preto, že si budete chcieť prečítať o Harryho prvých skutočných Vianociach, ale najmä preto, že budete chcieť vlastniť kúsok prekrásneho umenia od talentovanej Ziyi Gao. Ja som sa do jej ilustrácií zamilovala. 🥹🎄🎨🪄✨

Visada smagu vėl ir vėl nusikelti į tą magiškąjį Hario Poterio pasaulį ✨️ Nors skaityti čia nedaug, bet koks paveikslėlių grožis! Didelė ir spalvinga knyga. Prisiminsite kaip Haris atšventė savo pirmąsias tikras Kalėdas, kokių gavo dovanų, kokios buvo pilies vaišės.
