The fearless alpha that hates my kind may be my only hope.
Without magic, I may be powerless, but this witch doesn’t give up. Especially if my daughter’s life depends on it.
Dirus Morales is a fierce opponent, but he made for a better ally. He just wants to do his job and go home. I want to earn two seats to go with him. Whatever the price may be.
If teaming up with the same wolf pack I was sent to exterminate will grant us freedom, I’ll do it.
Can I trust the enemy of my enemy? Or will he let his pack feast upon my bones?
Start this dark, slow burn, slow building whychoose, wolf shifter, paranormal omegaverse romance adventure!
I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It’s a quick read that I finished in just a couple of hours.
The book opens with strong content warnings, as it addresses some dark and challenging themes. While some elements (SA, non-con, ped) are entirely implied/fade to black, others (physical and emotional abuse) are depicted more directly. That said, the author approaches these themes with sensitivity, and there is nothing graphic or explicit in the narrative. The story sets the stage for a 'fated mates' arc, which will likely develop further in the series.
For me, the handling of the content made it a bit harder to fully connect with the characters and their experiences. Telling rather than showing is always a stylistic challenge, and perhaps leaving out certain content altogether might have allowed for a more focused narrative (hence the 4 stars). However, this is clearly a deliberate choice by the author. The short length of the book, combined with the amount of story groundwork needed, has led to limited worldbuilding. I expect this will be expanded as the FMC is introduced to the wider world in the next book.
That said, the writing is strong overall, and the characters are distinct and believable. Despite a few typos (expected in an ARC), the pacing was engaging, and there were moments that genuinely tugged at my emotions.
Wow! I was unsure if I would enjoy this dark twisted shifter romance. This is a clean but dark world where wolves are meant to protect their witches. These women have been trapped on an island where male witches have twisted their beliefs. When a small pack of wolves show up. Everything will change forever.
I had to go away and think about what was really bothering me about this book. I "read" as much as I could waiting for the plot to kick in. I don't mind reading dark aspects of a book if they actually add to the story. This however is a collection of women's abuse and over reaching shock value with no actual plot.
The fact that the MMC was PROUD that Astra could take a beat down, given by him, was disgusting to me. We all like a strong heroine but what's the difference between the bad guys and the paramour if she has to fight him off too??? The MMC suddenly saying she's the one because of all Astra has been through... Red Massive Flags anyone???
Yes I read the trigger warnings. Perhaps the blurb should just say "Here are a lists of all the horrible things that can happen to women, full stop"
As if that wasn't enough, for the MMCs to knowingly and willingly pit Astra against another woman because "oh well, that's just how it is" Ridiculous!! Can't tell me there is no where else on the planet the wolves could take her? Oh yeah, that's because the world build is non existent.
The "paranormal" side of this was so loose and so underdeveloped it really didn't even need to be there. Wolves that would let their Alpha be taken with not even a squeak... Really. Wolves are pack creatures, military or not, they always hunt as a unit. Astra did nothing with her powers, what was the point of the build-up.
I'm sick of reading stories geared towards abusing women. This one though just takes the cake.
This book is dark, and full of trigger warnings. So if you are interested in it be aware of that first. For me that wasnt an issue so I was able to enjoy this book. This book has a nice story line, and definitely is a slow burn. Like VERY slow burn, so also be prepared for that. The FMC has been through a lot, so the romance isnt something she looking for. There also is wolf shifters, and witches (that we know of so far) all inside this omega-verse. Which is super cool!
This is a Dark Paranormal Romance set within an omega-verse. The romance in this book is a very slow burn, with a bond. There is spicy language, and adults themes but not in the traditional way. It has more to do with the trigger warnings. The book moves at a quick pace following Dirus as his team is on a mission to find a celestial witch their pack had got signs of. When he gets there he is disgusted at the way the society survives. Especially when he meets Astria, and the condition she is in. That is after their deadly first encounter, now he wants to do everything he can to get her away from there. This book is tragic, and full of action from beginning to end.
I loved this book. I was a quick omegaverse read with a cliffhanger at the end. I loved how fierce Astria is and how she is willing to do anything to defend her daughter. I felt awful when her daughter presented as the same as her. I loved that Dirius agreed to help them get out. I hated the plane scene and I loved how Astia handled it. I loved the romance and how she was able to feel like an equal finally. I loved that they agreed that she was their omega and them her wolves. I definitely cannot wait for the next book to come out.
Lordy. It was fine at the 20% mark which is why I kept going. But after a certain point, everything got so rushed that I felt like I wasn't grounded in anything at all. It was so confusing where they were, what they were doing, what their goals were, and even the plot of the enemy. And that ending. I was like "are you kidding me? I read all of that and none of it leads to anything in book one?" It's not even that long, it's not like there wasn't room for things to resolve. The character motives are hard to follow, especially Astria who I found both boring and annoying. She's scared all the time, which is fair in an abuse victim which this book was obviously trying to represent both physically and metaphorically. But then sometimes she just isn't. She cocksure and smarting off, then flinching and calling herself a stupid bitch. There just wasn't enough emotional exploration to warrant it so it rings false. Add to that the stupid ass ending-
Honestly, the ending is a cluster without a lot of grounding. I don't care about how much he hates the despicable other celestial, I don't care about Astria, I don't care about their story. So I will not "to be continued".
Hunted By The Pack is the first book in Their Celestial Witch Series by Kat Bethel.
💜 wolf shifters 💜 witches 💜 mysteries 💜 secluded island
Astria was still stuck in this box. Her face hurt from the punishment that they decided to do to her and now her body was cramping from being in this box. Who knows how long it has been since they put her in here. But, she really pushed things too far this time. When they decided to let her out, it was only to do one thing and then she would be let go, for now. Would she be able to complete the task? Would she be able to get out for her loved ones?
This was a good start to a new series. It is an interesting take on wolf shifters and witches. I like the world that is being created as there are a lot of moving parts and new ideas and ways of living to learn. This book does end on a cliffhanger and I am looking forward to when the next book releases so I can see what will happen next.
Admittedly there were times I was trying to figure out the setting of the world. It's a bit of a shorter story, with world set up being abrupt and rather unique. Maybe it's a spin off of another series? I'm not sure. But over all I like the concept. It just needed a little more development and explanation for the readers. What really pulled the story together were the characters. They're strong and likable, there's chemistry between them but not insta love. It builds, starting with a grudging respect that's created from their shared captivity that forces Astaria to rely on Dirus for help and him to acknowledge her strength and ability to survive under harsh circumstances. The side characters are sweet, with their own chances to shine in the story. The plot story is heart breaking and the small moments of levity hard won.
Ohhhh my goshhhhhh!!!!!!! This was such a ride. Far warning it does leave on a massive cliffhanger and does not end HEA. I cried so much and laughed also. Personally I cannot wait for book two. This is an omega verse, and one of my first. This is a true slow burn as there was no spice, but I did not even miss it. There is the set up for a why choose in book two though. So our FMC has been held captive her whole life but does not know any other way of life. The MMC is the alpha of a team of wolves that stumble across the FMC. While they are each drawn to one another, they do not understand why. The FMC and MMC fight each other, until they realize to survive they must work together. But what does surviving really mean?
Overall 5 stars, 5 smiles, 0 peppers, 0 black hearts.
Ooo talk about slow burn. It wasn’t a big deal due to the type of story this was for. There is so much that happens and each detail given is important.
You will get some action, some dark scenes and most of all, you will see how empowered these characters can be.
I enjoyed this book and the story line. I was engrossed from the beginning to the end. I loved the darkness and hoped to have seen a bit more romance, but If there was too much of that, the story wouldn’t have been what it became.
Hunted by the Pack is book one in Their Celestial Witch. I really loved the story line and characters. This book had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. There is a lot of action that will keep you invested in the story. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Whenever I get a chance to read a Kat Bethel book I take it. She is a go to author for me always, even though her cliff hangers are the death of me!
As always be mindful of trigger warnings, what I like you may not.
I'm so sad that I have to wait for the next book. I couldn't put this book down. It pulled at my heart strings. I can't get enough. It has so many things that I love about it. I love the magic, the action and all the characters. Astria is such a strong kind hearted FMC and I love all the wolves. It's definitely a slow burn and the anticipation is getting me lol. Definitely going to be on my list of favorite books. I love this one!
This was a tear jerker. 😢 I'm not gonna spoil anything, but there was a part that had me wide mouthed, tears pouring, and holding my breath. You know it's a good story when it makes you feel all the emotions the characters are feeling. It was a quick read that flowed at a good pace with some dark themes. I loved the dual POV and the strong characters. I can't wait to see what happens next in the series.
I really enjoyed this book, it’s an interesting take on omegaverse and even though it was a quick read, it’s filled with emotions and pulls at the heartstrings. Astoria has been through so much, yet she is still a kind and strong FMC. I really liked all the characters so far and the story itself, being a short read the author has set the stage for what seems to be a great series.
Be aware there are some dark scenes and topics so be sure to check those before diving in.
"Hunted By the Pack" is the first book in Kat Bethel's ongoing series, "Thier Celestial Witch." This paranormal shifter/witch romance leads off with a slow burn and lots of societal intrigue. I really enjoyed the magic system and the takedown of the awful political system. The end of book 1 is sad, but I am hopeful that we may see some familiar faces, and the steam will pick up in book 2, "Unchained by the Pack."
a caged assassin fighting for her daughters life is forced to kill a band of outsiders who have found their way into her father's pocket dimension. but if she fails, will she survive the fallout? The alpha who arrives on an uncharted pocket dimension is disgusted by the patriarchal tyranny of its male occupants on the females. but will he and his men survive fighting the status quo? A BRUTAL tale of healing and escaping oppression. please please pleeease check the trigger warnings!
This was a wild roller coaster....the emotions i felt from start to finish. I cant wait to read book 2 because i need to see not only her father but the other omega suffer. All the pain she went through just to lose the one thing she wanted to protect but hopefully with him and his pack by her side she can get it done.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I couldn’t put this book down. It was kinda fast paced but I rooting for my girl Astria. She is a naturally born leader and I love that she don’t let her circumstances stop her personality frok letting her be who she is and protecting the ones she love.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is an excellent start to a great series. One thing Kat Bethel does expertly is intriguing world building that sucks you in from the first page. This one might be shorter than some of her others but it packs a powerful punch! I can't wait for the rest of the series.
This was such a great witchy, paranormal book! I read it in 3 days! Great storyline of wolves and witches, of the why choose paranormal universe. Great characters , strong, powerful, overcoming challenges with a great love story. Can’t wait to read the next book.
This was crazy…. Not even close to what I thought I was walking into as a book. It sucked me in and had me goin through all kinds of emotions… I want give it away but come on.. really in the first book!!! My heart and head are fighting to stop here or read on.. with all my book lovers you already know I’ll keep going.
This book is interesting. You have omegaverse where the omega are celestial witches that the wolf packs have to protect. As present there is only one known omega and a main pack that surrounds her, but most of the pack despises her. Sent on a mission to a mystery island, another omega is found, but is she meant to be the target or victim to be saved?
The paranormal aspect kept me reading. The mystery of the island full of men who only view women as property and power plays was saddening but intriguing. The FMC's pain and background pulled at my heart strings. I love how careful the pack is with her and slowly tries to earn her trust. The story is rather fast paced and the ending was a while rollercoaster, I am still angry about it, but it was overall a great read.
Definitely a different take on an onegaverse, with them being celestial witches.
In this book we meet Astria an Omega who is kept hidden on an island with women being kept like cattle, sold and hurt. (check the triggers)..She is sent to assainate a newcomer to the island...Which of course means she meets the wolves, the strangers to the island.
The apparent leader of these wolves is Dirus, lead to the island via a magical signal and stumbles across Astria and the horrors that the island hides.
Sadly this is short so we don't get a lot of leg work or character building, but it does lay the foundation for an excellent series.
Must admit this is one book that gets better the more you read and I look forward to reading more...
Watch the 🌟 fly! This Book, is, Book 1 and it is Gripping and rage inducing and fear inducing, and all the emotions.
Make Sure you read the Trigger Warnings because this may not be for everyone. But Kat Bethel is an automatic read for, and this book was no diff.
5 🌟 world 5 🌟 characters 5 🌟 Plot 0 🌶 spice
The FMC is a fighter and the things, that , yeah, and the MMCs are ... yeah.. I can't without giving away anything. But I definitely need book 2 and if you want witches and wolves then grab it and read, cause you'll finish it in a sitting and absolutely wonder w.t..f....
I loved it! In true Kat Bethel form. I absolutely adore her books maybe some more than others. I was sad this was like extremely slow burn but it had a ton of plot into it and I can not wait till the next book to find out what more happens. Be ready for tissues tho!! Such a great book!!
Dirus has no idea what is in store for him on his mission. He is the hot alpha wolf we all live. Astria just wants to be free. Can Dirus help Astria become free? Absolutely loves this book and can't wait to read book 2!
This is a quick but enjoyable read.. it gives straight into the action but is very heavy on a lot of factors so please read the warnings.. saying that I enjoyed the idea behind it and the alpha coming to rescue the stong willed witch.. I'm intruiged to see what comes next.
This is a dark whychoose paranormal romance, and what a wild ride it is. This is a slow burn romance that really set up the world and characters very well. I was completely invested emotionally in Astoria's story.
Loved every minute. Delving into a world of men who think women are lower than dirt. For one woman to lead the charge with her new wolf protectors to escape from the island. I cried at the loss. Cheered at the escape. Can't wait to find out what happens next.
The TWs are accurate and should be observed. The story is gut wrenching at times and triumphant at others. I love Austria and I can't wait to read what happens next.
