“Hurt, Electra.” “I don’t want to hurt. I don’t want to hurt no more.” “Hurt with me.”
Do you believe in soulmates? The kind whose paths were meant to cross long before it came to pass. The ones who talk without hearing and hear without talking. Because I didn’t. Not until Exton Quinn unceremoniously bursted through my front door and declared he was here to stay. He bulldozed his way through every wall and decided he was he was going to fight my battles. The ones I had no weapons or desire for. Why fix what’s broken beyond repair? Why try to mend the dreams that crushed under one slipped blade?
i feel like i should start this with saying that i thought this would be a hit because i LOVE a he falls first trope but this was 100000% not for me and i wanted to dnf after the H’s first pov chapter but i didn’t because i wanted to see if he would grow on me…..and he did not.
first of all….the way he talked about women was disgusting. he mentioned that he fought a player (that he hates) from another team because the “warm hole” he was hooking up with slept with the other man. he talked about her like she was just a sex doll and he dumped her because she wanted to take it to the next level and he doesn’t do that.
now that was pretty gross but i thought “hey maybe it gets better” but i was wrong. technically the ow was only mentioned a few times but it was always in such a garbage way basically calling her a slut for being a puck bunny when he has no issue saying he can find another hole anywhere. also during their first time he said that all the women before the h were fuck toys, nothing more. actually they were less than fuck toys because he didn’t care about their pleasure. i’m sorry WHAAAAAAAAT.
that was strike one…. STRIKE TWO was him being a total fucking ass so the h when they first met even though she didn’t know he was going to be babysitting her. the future of his ENTIRE career was hinged on him being able to get the h to walk again and he starts it by eating her lasagna and calling her a cripple then storming out and LEAVING HER ALL ALONE for hours while he flirts with someone at the bar and is contemplating taking her home. he must not have cared much about his job because he didn’t take anything seriously. he literally told the h to “just walk” the first time he meets her.
strike two and a half is when he puts her on the ice in front of goal AND SHOOTS PUCKS AT HER AT FULL FORCE BECAUSE “if she wants to move she has to walk” 🫠🫠🫠 trash.
strike three for me was when after months of not doing ANY kind of physical therapy and i mean NONE of the exercises to help her walk she MIRACULOUSLY runs to save the H’s life and even pulls him out of a freezing lake.
i will say that i liked that she was a bitch to him 😂
i just….i couldn’t do it anymore 😅🫣
i am kind of interested in the next book though so maybe i’ll read it. i’m sorry this wasn’t it for me but i did get this as an arc

After the second instance of the LI calling the FMC "cripple" happened, I had to DNF. It was already iffy when the FMC kept using it in her internal dialogue and when her ex used it but: no matter how much you want them to be enemies, there's no reason for using that word in a "romance" novel in 2024. Sincerely, a disappointed, disabled reader.
I received an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
"I might’ve fallen for Electra the way she is, bound to that wheelchair and her spirit broken, but I think I love her too much to let her stay in it."
OMG! I'm speechless! What an emotional journey! After diving into a bunch of quick and light reads lately, I needed something with a bit more depth. From the second chapter, the feelings hit me right in the feels, and I sobbed within the first few chapters. My heart was breaking alongside Electra's, and I could feel her sense of helplessness. It was one of those stories that shattered my heart but then mended it in the most beautiful way. This is the story of Electra and Exton, two characters with their own demons. They fight for one another and share a deep love that ultimately helps them heal.
"He fell in love with me when I didn't love myself. He fell in love and fight for mine every day since."
This was my first time reading something by this author, and I had a feeling I’d be in for a treat when I signed up for the ARC and I was right!. I kept putting off reading it, thinking I'd read it near the release date until I couldn't wait any longer. Exton and Electra's first encounter is filled with tension since they can't stand each other at first—Exton is harboring a lot of anger, and Electra wants to be left alone. They believe they don’t need one another, but as the story progresses, Exton starts to break through Electra's icy walls, helping her to feel again, and in return, she helps soothe his anger.
Exton is straightforward with Electra—he doesn’t hold back when he talks to her. Some might think he comes off a bit rude, but Electra doesn’t need someone to coddle her. She needs someone who truly believes in her, is willing to push her and be there through thick and thin, especially since she’s unwilling to fight for herself. Exton is just that person, determined to help Electra find her way out of her darkness. At the same time, Electra supports Exton through his struggles, encouraging him to face his demons and grow.
"He picked up my pieces and molded them around his, weaving them together until we were one, whole and unbreakable."
What I adore about their relationship is how in sync they are—they seem to understand each other without even needing to speak. Their playful banter and the deep love they share are just wonderful to read. While their romance is a slow burn, when they finally come together, it’s pure fire! Their chemistry is incredible, and the steamy scenes heat things up. But honestly, what I cherish the most is their personal growth. This book takes readers on a beautiful healing journey; I found myself laughing, crying, and swooning right alongside them. Their story will stick with me for a long time. I can't wait to dive into the next book! The little sneak peek of the upcoming couple has me buzzing with excitement.
Thank you to Daisy Thorn and Luna Literary Management for this amazing eARC! This book has quickly become one of my favorites of the year.
“I’ll break you all over again.” “Impossible, Because I’m only whole in your hands.”
I received this ARC and while I did finish this book, I probably should have DNFd it.
I won't get into much but I had high hopes with this story being hockey & figure skating plus a disability rep.
There is zero disability representation in this book. This book actually contains a slander word that, personally I find rather offensive. At the beginning it is being used by the villain of this story I could turn a blind eye to that alone. The FMC referring to herself as this slander, I also let it slide, which I shouldn't have, but then the MMC called her this AND in a joking sense... HARD NO. The MMC wasn't the most enjoyable to begin with as he was just a straight up dick, so this was a cherry on top of the cake for me
I provided my feedback for the author, and I think with a change to simply remove the use of that one word it would take this book to another level. Sadly I cannot, in good faith, say I recommend this book
I am not in the habit of rating books I did not finish, but in this case, I can’t in good conscience say “this book was not for me” and move on.
This book is promoted with disability rep as a large part of the storyline. And while that is true, I don’t feel like a book should actively harm the community that it is representing. And this books does. And yes there are trigger warnings pertaining to insensitive language used in reference to a character that has become a wheelchair user through injury, but that does not excuse the language. Nor does it excuse the way it portrays the main character both through her inner dialogue and how her characters reference her.
This book has a great premise and I hope that the issues around disability representation come from a place of lack of understanding and not active harm, but I am begging authors to do research. When writing outside of your lived experience, please take the care to use sensitivity readers and be mindful of the community you are profiting off of and whether or not your words will harm them.
• Forced Proximity • Disability rep • Hockey/Figure skater Romance • Grumpy/Grumpy • Dislike to lovers • He gets a tattoo for her • Possessive MMC • Two broken MCs
Wow! I'll be honest I only read the trope list for this book and immediately knew it was for me! I LOVE going in blind after reading a good trope list! I don't know why it's taken me this long to pick up a Daisy Thorn book! I've really been missing out if this book is anything to go off of. If you haven't either, I'm here to tell you the same thing I told myself don't let another day go by without picking up one of her books! I need more of them in my life NOW. Her writing is beautiful, her character development was on point, and the chemistry between these two was insane!
Electra is a professional figure skater with her dream of going to the Olympics right in front of her when a bad lift goes wrong during a performance leaving her with an unbelievably hard recovery to cope with! I absolutely adored Electra's character. My heart broke for her many times as she battled with settling in to her new life! And without any warning in walks a broody Hockey player with a big enough ego to take up space in an entire arena. There could NOT have been a better MMC for Electra to be forced to put up with! Exton was relentless, which was perfect for dealing with Electra and her grumpy exterior. I freaken LOVED Exton. He knew exactly how to break down Electra's walls she had built. She was so sure she was a charity case to him, but he was determined to make her see just how much she meant to him! When she couldn't handle her bad days he was there to help hold her up and encourage her in the sweetest most possessive ways. I freaken devoured their chemistry! They balanced each other so well! Even down to the ability to know exactly what the other was thinking and needed. And the banter between these two during their first few interactions was HILARIOUS! I need more!!! I'm not ready to say goodbye to these two!! Daisy did give us the sweetest HEA for these two! And it still wasn't enough! This book was beautiful! I will be recommending it for a very long time!
This author has the right idea with sometimes very poor execution and sometimes very good execution like this book is bad but it’s not that bad. It’s brain rot but the brain rot is amusing as hell.
As this point, I should probably tell you that you should take my 4 star rating with a grain of salt.
I didn’t like any of the MC’s. Electra the FMC made her personality about her ex while she was with him and also made her personality about Exton the MMC while she was with him. Now did Exton treat her better than the ex? Sure Was he loveable without his love for the FMC tho? No
What the fuck is this? The author wrote this nonsense as a form of “banter” between the MCs and I was not down for that shit. Do you know how fucking harmful using words like “cripple” to show representation for people with disabilities like Electra’s is? Were we supposed to find this cute?😭
What the fuck is that??? Is this meant to be hot? Omo at the point I just started laughing
See now I’m beginning to reconsider my 4 stars but questionable writing choices asides the plot was good😭, I cried at some point and even loved the side characters and the found family plus the MC did say cute meaningful shit that I couldn’t let all the rubbish above take way from. The spice was spicing too and honestly I saw one thing on tik tok about Dummy reading so if you want to just read something for a good laugh and a fun time, pick this one up.
Anything outside that, I don’t think this one will be for you😭
I had the pleasure of reading this book as a BETA reader, and was blown away with this book.
Now reading it as an ARC reader I’m in awe of Daisy’s writing and the plot of this book. I hope you all are ready to meet these two MCs because they’re simply amazing 🤩
Born of Ice by Daisy Thorn Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I LOVE Electra. She is hilarious, dramatic, sarcastic, and someone who never gives up even when you believe she does.
This is what I’m talking about. Daisy has a way to make you feel exactly how the FMC feels as you read the scene. I swear, there were so many moments in this book that I felt like I could feel, see, and experience every emotion coming from Exton and Electra.
There were so many scenes where this man made me mad lol. But he takes nothing serious and I love him for it.
Exton is a hockey player who has the worse attitude and it’s his greatest flaw.

ARC Review of Born of Ice by Daisy Thorn❄️🏒⛸️🧊👩🏻🦽➡️🥅💘📚👑🩵
This book shattered my heart and then put it back together in the most beautiful way possible. I’ve never cried this much over a story—seriously, I was a mess, reading it cover to cover in a single afternoon with tears streaming down my face. But every tear was worth it because getting to know Electra and Exton was an unforgettable experience.
Their love is something fierce and raw. Exton’s unwavering belief in Electra, his determination to pull her out of the darkness and help her find herself again, was nothing short of breathtaking. And watching Electra, in turn, bring Exton to life—making him feel and trust in their connection—was just magic. These two were meant for each other, and every page made that clear.
The banter was sharp, the chemistry was electric, and the tender moments had me melting. I laughed, I swooned, and I felt every ounce of their devotion and passion. It’s not just a love story; it’s a story about healing, growth, and the kind of bond that changes you forever.
I honestly don’t have the words to capture how much I adored this book. It’s left a permanent mark on my heart, and I know it’s a story I’ll carry with me forever. Hands down, my all-time favorite read—nothing else comes close.😭💘

I might’ve fallen for Electra the way she is, bound to that wheelchair and her spirit broken, but I think I love her too much to let her stay in it.
I’ve never been one to shy away from taking what I want, and I’ve never wanted anyone more than I want Electra freaking Monroe but maybe that’s exactly what the problem here is. I want her and not just for one or two nights because I no longer see my days without her.
“I’m scared of breaking again, Exton. And you,” she pauses as another drop falls to my arm, “you can break me beyond repair.” I swipe my thumb underneath her breast, right over her thundering heart. “You can’t break what you love the most in your life, Electra.”
“More. I need more. I need it all. You wanted me to hurt with you, I want that too.” “Jesus… fuck… I’ll break you all over again.” “Impossible, Because I’m only whole in your hands.”
‼️Book coming out December 6th on Amazon, and I'm already so excited for everyone to read it and obsess over it as much as I did‼️
dnfed at 10% because the first meeting between the fmc and mc he calls her a “crippled”.
this book needed sensitivity readers or something, im sure he apologizes and makes up for it but i will not be sticking around to find out!
as a disabled reader i was immediately turned away from this book as a whole because of the language used. authors do better when telling stories that may not be yours <3

I’ll start by saying thank you to Luna Literary for this arc, as always!
This book had the bones to be good. It really did. But I just couldn’t get into it. I almost DNF’d it but pushed through.
Not only was the mmc just plain rude for 75% of the book, he kept calling the fmc a slur. I was waiting for some sort of scene where she called him out of he apologized but it feels like it became a term of endearment at some point and it made me flinch every time.
Then, you want me to believe after no physical therapy for weeks/months, but through the power of bully to lovers, weird nicknames, and a big dick, she magically can feel her legs again? Yeah ok. “And then he keeps fucking me until the shape of his cock is imprinted on the inside of my pussy as deep as the shape of his heart into mine.” 🙇🏽♀️
And in top of that you men’s to tell me this girls mom gave up cancer treatments so she could start a new hobby she’d never done before?? Not like one she had been commuted to and wanted to continue, but a fresh new hobby? She risked her life (and lost) so her 8 year old could skate?? I feel line if I was dying and my child wanted to start a new hobby I would say sorry kid not now??? It would be so different it maybe she was older and had been skating for so long 😭
I know books don’t have to be realistic but there was just so much I couldn’t connect to here lmao. Between this bitch ass if a man who calls women “warm wet holes” to just the unrealistic medical choices made. I appreciate this arc and the chance to read it, but it’s a no from me dawg.
Lastly, I understand and accept that arc’s are imperfect copies, but goodness there were a lot of grammar and spelling errors 🫣 I hope those at least were fixed for the release.
I am immensely grateful for this book as it shattered my heart in the most agonizing way, only to piece it back together again. Exton and Electra's story left me a weeping mess, and I struggle to articulate just how deeply moving and poignant it truly is.
Electra, a talented figure skater on the brink of realizing her Olympic dreams, faces a devastating setback when a routine lift goes awry during a performance, leading to a challenging road to recovery. I was captivated by Electra's character - my heart ached for her as she navigated the challenges of her new reality. And just when she least expected it, a brooding hockey player with an outsized ego entered her life.
Exton couldn't have been a more perfect match for Electra. His relentless determination was exactly what she needed to break through her tough exterior. I adored Exton - he skillfully dismantled Electra's barriers, proving that she was far more than a mere charity case to him. During her darkest moments, he stood by her side, offering unwavering support and encouragement in the most tender and possessive manner.
Their chemistry was simply intoxicating - they complemented each other perfectly, anticipating each other's thoughts and needs. The witty banter between them was uproariously funny, the sparks between them electric, and their tender moments utterly heart-melting. I laughed, I swooned, and I felt every ounce of their deep connection and passion.
I struggle to find the right words to convey the depth of my affection for this book. It has left an indelible mark on my heart; more than a love story, it is a tale of healing, growth, and an enduring bond that will stay with me for a lifetime.
OH EM GEE ☹️☹️!!! There’s something about this book that tugs on my heart. The depth to Electra’s and Exton’s Backstory’s is so thought out and heartbreaking, I shed so many tears while reading. The love they both share can definitely be defined as fated star crossed lovers and I ate it up with every sentence and turn of a page. Born of Ice was so fulfilling and deep I have to give it its Flowers 💐!!! DAISY THORN THE GENIUS THAT YOU ARE!!! we could all wish to experience a love like Electra’s and Exton’s, a soul binding, burning fire, passion filled love. Deep meaningful romance books deserve more recognition, i love how realistic it was for them to try to actually move past their trauma and be there for each other. I recommended this work of art definitely !!!
Okay, I’m not kidding, this is one of my favorite reads ever. I went into this solely because one of my friends read the arc and RAVED about it and I saw the character art and I was instantly hooked. And I’ve never really been a hockey-romance kinda girl!
Our FMC Electra is a professional figure skater on her way to represent the US in the upcoming Olympics, when she experiences a horrible accident which leaves her paralyzed and wheelchair bound. Our MMC Exton is a grumpy, broody, 6’5’’ best defenseman for the Boston Outlaws NHL team who has extreme anger management issues which leads him to be temporarily benched, with the exception of: helping the Olympian skater to get back on the ice.
Now these two are both broken souls with trauma and self-depreciating thoughts who come together and unknowing heal one another. This story was beautiful and funny and tension inducing and heart wrenching and everything in between. I couldn’t put this book down and I am salivating for the next book!
Whether or not hockey romances are your thing, you will love this! It is hockey light, figure skating medium, but otherwise plot heavy, and romance heavy. It is enemies to lovers, they heal themselves and each other along the way, not just physically but emotionally. There’s a little bit of fate and magic sprinkled if you believe in that. This is slightly dramatic, but if this does not become a series, the author might find a not so small angry elf on their door step!
Born of Ice is a wild emotional ride that pulls you in with its broken, raw characters and their messy journey toward love and healing. Electra is the star of the show—funny, dramatic, sarcastic, and just trying to keep it together while dealing with her injury and everything that comes with it. Exton, though? Whew. He’s a tough one to like at first. His whole “grumpy, mean guy” act goes a bit too far, especially with him calling Electra a slur like it’s no big deal. Sure, he grows as a person, and there are moments where you can see he’s more than just a jerk, but it still left me side-eyeing him for a good chunk of the book.
That said, the chemistry between them is fantastic. Their banter is sharp, their jabs at each other are entertaining, and when things finally heat up? Yeah, it’s worth the wait. The wintery, cabin setting adds a perfect layer of coziness to all the angst and emotional drama. And while the story is all about the slow-burn, it kind of jumps to “we’re madly in love” a little early, so some of the middle parts dragged a bit. The ice metaphor pops up a lot too—like, a lot—and it started feeling a little heavy-handed by the end.
Electra’s journey is where the book shines. Her struggles with her injury, anxiety, and finding her footing again are super relatable, and it’s rewarding to see her grow stronger (emotionally and physically). Exton’s growth is solid too, but his redemption arc wasn’t quite enough for me to forget how rough he was at the start. Plus, there are some parts that felt kind of far-fetched, like Electra’s recovery and the whole invisible strings-of-fate thing. It got a little too “fairy tale” in places for me.
Also, just a heads-up: there are spelling errors scattered throughout. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it was noticeable, so hopefully, they fixed that in the final version. All in all, I enjoyed the cozy cabin vibes, the snarky dialogue, and the fiery romance, but there were definitely some moments that made me pause. If you’re into angsty, spicy slow-burn romances with a side of emotional drama, this one’s worth a try—just be ready to roll your eyes at Exton a few times along the way!
Also, kudos to the author for making Exton’s mom Croatian hehe.
Wow Daisy really turned up the heat with this one. 🫠🔥 Thank you for this arc @daisythornauthor and @lunaliterary.management
The trauma and support and banter were on point.
Two broken people that don’t feel needed or wanted, find peace in each other, and work to heal each other through stubborn determination. The emotion was so strong throughout this book. I could really feel everything these characters were feeling.
Electra - such a strong willed feisty woman Exton is an angry stubborn man with past trauma, that makes him not care about anyone’s feelings.
But when the gloves come off, and the feelings come out…🔥
“Shh, it’s too early for the angry elf energy to come out, okay?”
“Psychopath,” I mutter. “Takes one to know one, little star
“You are my salvation. The light at the end of my dark tunnel. The calm in my storm. You are my home Electra”
I liked the idea of it but in reality, it seemed to be the worst side of Wattpad. -His "pet name" for her was cripple.... even after they started to be romantic with each other. -Do you know how the worst part in fantasy books is when the FMC loses her power or something that makes her unique? Somehow it was put into a contemporary book because she magically is no longer disabled. -During their first-ever spicy scene he eats her ass????? Like no discussion about it or anything??? Like straight to the backside??? -Immediately after their first intimacy scene, the MMC reveals he wants to have a baby with her.
Overall it seemed like there was a lack of research and lack of sensitivity reading because it was actually just offensive to people (including myself) with any kind of disability.
I don’t even know where to begin with this book. It was just an emotional roller coaster that I am so grateful to have experienced and I’m so glad I gave this book a chance. This book made me feel so many things, I haven’t felt so connected to characters in a while and these two quickly burrowed their way into my soul. You could feel their pain, their anguish, their adoration and love for each other.
I was immediately hooked from the second Exton and Electra meet in this book. The connection between them is unlike any other I’ve read. The banter, the darkness that’s in both of them, the knowing when to push and when to give, and the ability to show their vulnerabilities to each other. They’re connected, not only on a physical level, but mentally and spiritually as well, their souls are connected. They’re both extremely stubborn, but they don’t let each other stay under the darkness, under the ice. They push each other to heal, to be better, to learn to fight for themselves instead of just for each other. They’re learning to heal.
Their love was so fierce and raw and vulnerable and realistic. This book really showed that you have good and bad, you go through the ups and downs and how to navigate it in a way that doesn’t end in fighting and yelling, but in how to understand one another and what they need and when one person needs to step up for the other because the other mentally or physically can’t.
“Hurt with me.”
This scene honestly sold this book as a 5 star read. I feel like we don’t see enough MMCs in book who are so willing to be open and vulnerable with their love interests, to cry and open up about the darkness that follows them and the shit that affects them. But also to so willingly want to understand their love interests darkness. Exton didn’t want to change Electra, he wanted to understand, he wanted to help her grow and heal. He had accepted her long before for what she was and never once wanted to change her, but he did want to push her to heal for herself because she needed it. He didn’t want her to live, he wanted her to be alive, the same way Electra wanted Exton to be alive and not just live, pushing him to face the demons from his past.
This book left me speechless and is probably one of my favorite reads out of the whole year. I am so in love with these characters and I can’t wait to see what Ms. Daisy Thorn has in store for the second book, because if it’s anything like Exton and Electra’s story connection wise, I’ll be eating that shit up.

Thank you so much to Daisy Thorn & Luna Literacy for the eARC of this book.
So many things drew me into this ARC opportunity. Hockey is without a doubt my favorite type of sports romance to read, and this book was said to have a disabled main character. My curiosity was more than piqued, and I was happy to give this new-to-me author a try.
The beginning of this book DREW. ME. IN. I was hooked like a fish on a line. My heart was pounding so fast I had to literally use my hand to cover the screen and read one line at a time. I was scared, panicked, and sweating as we experienced our FMC’s career altering accident in gruesome, visceral detail right along with her.
Personal, yet relevant, tangent: I was a competitive dancer growing up and I had a career ending injury when I was seventeen. Reading this scene (and her recovery) was HARD but oh my god, so well done. For the most part.
I genuinely wasn’t sure how our two main characters, an injured figure skater and a hair trigger anger issues hockey player, would end up orbiting one another. The forced proximity created a really fun bubble where their reality became each other, not the outside world. I loved this little cabin nestled next to a frozen lake in a small town where everyone knows everyone (especially because both our main characters are stupidly famous). The setting was such a contrast to our characters emotional and physical wellbeing, but it was clear from the beginning that this location would be a haven for them both.
Each character had such big personalities. They were like fire and ice always battling with one another in wit, verbal sparring, and later on trying to out spice the other. It was so fun watching these characters grow and evolve together. Each one carried many emotional challenges including childhood abuse/trauma, depression and anxiety attacks, and it was so rewarding as the reader to watch them unwind and work through those tough to navigate issues.
This story definitely borrows elements from dark romance when it comes to the spice. Our MMC says the darndest things, and boy oh boy did I eat it up! Our hockey star definitely has a breeding kink, as well as a laundry list of others that were so fun to explore.
Now comes the tricky part as a reader and reviewer who is disabled. I wish I had known our character would get back on her feet. Literally. I went into this story thinking that the character would be permanently disabled and was going to learn to navigate life through this new lens, like many of us who become disabled (and are not born disabled) are forced to do.
Fortunately for our character, she has a miraculous recovery (maybe a little too miraculous), in which she states her inability to walk was just all in her head. But it wasn’t. She had a broken bone that, perhaps temporarily, damaged or inflamed her spinal cord, causing her paralysis. Sure it’s medically possible for that kind of swelling to go down and for the damage to be reversible, for sensation to come back in the form of tingles and then outright feeling, but to say it was all in her head and that she wouldn’t let herself walk because of some mental block felt like it undermined and invalidated the very real trauma her mind and body experienced through her accident.
I’m not angry at the author for writing a story where the character got better in a case where that is a plausible, medically accurate, potential outcome. I think this is an example of when a sensitivity reader’s, or a reader who has experienced something similar, input could have been useful. Maybe I’m misunderstanding that scene altogether coming from my own lived bias and experiences as someone with both a career ending injury and permanent life long disabilities. It feels very weird that after she gets out of her wheelchair in an emergency and runs for the first time since her accident, she has one additional check up with her doctors and then immediately jumps back into her old life as if the accident had never happened.
I made the choice to wait to post my reviews until this book was released into the world. The more I sit with this story, and the way the disability arc was handled, the more frustrated I feel (which is a shame because I genuinely enjoyed the writing and the characters up until that pivotal moment). I opened up this discussion, without mentioning the book or author on Bluesky to get some additional opinions. (You can see those responses on my blog or bluesky)
As of this moment, I would not recommend this book to readers looking for good or positive disability representation.
Born of Ice is book one in the Reborn series and follows Electra & Exton.
This was the first book I've read by this author, and it definitely will not be my last! This book literally broke me within the first couple of pages but ended up healing me by the end. Both of their backstories are rough, but Exton’s is particularly heartbreaking.
To be completely honest, I really did not like Exton at first. I thought he was extremely rude and insensitive, but we learn throughout the book that his attitude was really a mask to protect him from his own demons. He really is a cinnamon roll of a man who would do anything and everything for Electra. Like I would do anything to protect this man!
I loved Electra, even when she was a grump. She was a fiery little thing and so freaking sassy. Her comebacks were on point and hilarious. Electra is so closed off after everything that happened with her accident that she lived in darkness until a broody hockey player barged into her life. He literally pulled her from the darkness, and she brought calm to his life. They were perfect for each other. I truly love that fate brought them together.
The connection between them was evident from the freaking start! They both just understood one another on a deeper level than what words can describe. This is a slow burn, but once the fire started, it did NOT stop.
This book was utter perfection, and I seriously can't wait to see what is in store for the next book!!!!

Thank you, Daisy Thorn and Luna Literacy, for the gifted copy.
I went into Born of Ice completely blind, only knowing the tropes—and let me tell you, I was blown away.🤩
This book shattered my heart and put all the pieces back together in the most beautiful way. 🥹🥰
The story follows Electra and Exton. Electra is a world-renowned figure skater whose career was derailed by a life-changing injury, leading her to isolate herself from everyone and everything. ⛸️ Despite her guarded nature, I adored her sassy side and found myself wishing I could jump into the pages and give her a big hug. 🫂
Exton, the defender for the Boston Outlaws, and has anger management issues that cost him his spot on the ice. 🏒 He’s intuitive, straightforward, and deeply invested in Electra, even if it sometimes makes him come off as harsh. But in reality, he’s exactly the person she needs—he’s determined to help her find her spark again. 🥹 At the same time, Electra supports him as he faces his own battles and comes to terms with his demons.
Their love was so pure and beautiful. What struck me most was how they balanced each other out, understanding each other’s needs without needing to say a word.✨
Lastly, a quick disclaimer: Please check the trigger and content warnings before diving into this story. This book contains themes of depression, anxiety/panic attacks, and instances of insensitive language, among others.
Born of Ice is a powerful story of healing, personal growth, love, and resilience.❤️🫂
Tropes: ❄️ Dislike to lovers ❄️ Trauma and healing ❄️ Disability representation ❄️ Communication without words
I absolutely loved “Born of Ice”! This captivating romance novel tells the story of Electra ‘Elle’ Monroe, a figure skater, and Exton Quinn, a hotheaded NHL player. Their journey is filled with emotion, suspense, and found family, making it impossible to put down.
I adored the banter between the characters and enjoyed watching their relationship blossom. The author’s writing style is engaging, and the story is full of twists and turns that keep you hooked. The chemistry between Elle and Exton is undeniable, and their intimate moments are sensual and amazing.
What I appreciated most about this book is how the author tackles tough topics like injury, heartbreak, and vulnerability. The characters’ growth and development are well-paced and believable, making their romance all the more satisfying.
Overall, “Born of Ice” is a must-read for fans of hockey and figure skating romances. I’m excited to dive into the rest of the series!
…..this book was so beautiful. Born of Ice broke me. Shattered my soul, emotionally decimated me, but, in a way that is unique to it and miss ma’am Daisy Thorn, Born of Ice also put my heart back together stronger than ever before. This isn’t what you expect when you see “sports romance” - IT. IS. SO. MUCH. MORE.
Such a harrowing, humbling experience to be able to read this story and believe in these characters. Exton and Electra have been THROUGH it.
Only having had their coaches in their corners, feeling like they’re losing everything, and even risking losing what they think they love more than everything…what N emotional and powerful story about perseverance and what the right kind of love can do for you.
Furthermore, this is the first book I’ve read where one of the MCs is differently-abled. Which was just *chef’s kiss* *mind blown*
I honestly just can’t say enough about how amazing this book is; Do yourself a favor and read it. It’s seriously amazing and is in the running for my favorite book of 2024!

Main Characters: Exton & Electra
Stand out lines/quotes: Because I don’t see a parallel road to mine, I see one so intertwined you can barely tell us apart. His darkness is dancing with mine, so it’s not lonely. His soul is holding mine, so it doesn’t slip away. His warmth keeps my chill away. It’s my will that strangles his anger. My desperation is his personal beacon, his grounding. And there’s more.
My Thoughts: This book was a nice surprise. I went in knowing it was a hockey player and an ice skater, but the storyline was so much more than what I was anticipating. I got Cutting Edge vibes from it but with more yumminess. Ex & El were both so dang stubborn but so perfect for each other. The ending made all the bumps in the road so worth it for me. I really enjoyed this book.
I absolutely love Daisy Thorn’s writing. The loverly cave series is what got me hooked on her writing. This one is an entirely different writing style than what I had come to expect from her but I absolutely love it. This isn’t your typical hockey romance this is a story of 2 broken souls coming together as each other’s missing piece with an undeniable connection that could only be heaven sent. There is a ton of banter, a career ending injury, an angry individual who loves to solve problems with his fists, a broken spirit, loss, forced proximity, friendship, love, & an overall sense of wanting to be better both physically & mentally. All it takes to make things happen is a woman who knows how to get things done her coach Stella & his hockey coach and the rest is history. Exton & Electra have an absolutely undeniable bond where they can literally have a full on conversation with each-other without ever exchanging words. They both are a little broken but they manage to bring out the best in each other & be one another’s calm in the storm. They also point out each other’s greatest strengths. Can they make the unthinkable happen? This is an amazingly touching & deep book that has a bunch of twists and turns. It has a ton of spice, banter, & fun nicknames you come to expect of a Daisy Thorn book. This is definitely a must read! I can’t wait for the next one! I received this book as an ARC and I’m leaving an honest review of this book. Thanks to @daisythornauthor & @lunaliterary.management for this opportunity.
