Sadly this is a DNF at 36% I just didn't get invested in the story. I didn't get neither Emery nor Ryan. Emery was kind of strange. She was really emotionally detached in a way but on the other hand she was too invested in her emotions (burst out crying for no apparent reason) which didn't make any sense. Ryan's plot was uninteresting because it wasn't moving.
In general I felt that there were too many lines being repeated by both Ryan and Emery which made the story slow going and a bit boring.
I'm not going to say anything about the plot because I read too little to actually tell you something that you can't read in the description of this short novella.
As a friend told me recently, if you've read about a third of the book and it's not good or interesting to you, the odds are that it won't "get better" it would probably stay the same or improve by just a little bit which is why I decided to leave this one.
Emery Phillips is use to being disappointed by her parents. Her dad is bipolar which had made life difficult for her growing up. Emery is away at University when her mother calls to tell her that with all the things her father has done they are about to lose the house if they don’t find the mystery son of the friend who gave her father a personal loaned. Her mom is all but ready to just give up but Emery isn’t. She gets what information she has and sets out to find the mystery benefactor to get the extension on the loan.
Ryan Miller lost his mother a year ago but has had a hard time moving on. On the way to Medical school to become a doctor, Ryan has to clean out the house he lived in with his mom to get it ready to be sold. This money will pay for his schooling. The problem is when his mother was dying she told him “I should have told you…things you need to know” but never told him what. Now that he has found the key to her message he is afraid to find out what she was talking about.
Ryan’s best friend convinces him to go out and let loose and when he does he ends up in some ones bed. Emery was surprise to find Ryan in her bed but the instant attraction they feel for each other leaves them wanting more but with Emery’s stay in the area depending on finding the mystery son she tries to keep Ryan at arms length. Will these two get over their issues and finally give into their desire before they have to leave each other or will what Ryan mother’s secret destroy any chance of happiness?
I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book I have read by Audra North and I loved it. I really liked the independent side of Emery. She is smart, stubborn and strong-willed person who knows what she wants but her down fall is the fact that her parents have disappointed her all her life so she can’t trust or depend on anyone without feeling like she has failed. Ryan is a kind good nature guy who puts his friends and family first. I love he how works around the independent streak Emery had to helped her out with the problems she has at home. Even though Ryan has fallen for her he never gives her a hard time about keeping things causal when he wants more from her. The only downfall I found in this book was the ending. I love how Audra brought it all together at the end and set things straight but I was hoping for a bit more of what was to happen next for Ryan and Emery. Audra North wrote a great book and I would recommend it to my fellow readers!!
This summer romance is the story of Emery and Ryan. Emery has come west to search for a young man who has inherited her family home, one she doesn't want to give up. There she meets Ryan, a lonely soul who has recently lost his mother and is sorting out her things, and his future. Circumstances conspire to put them together and a simmering sexual affair begins between them. But can their new found relationship survive revelations that will rock them both?
I found this to be a very enjoyable new adult romance. I often find in the world of new adult that the angst portion is very heavy - in this case, though there are some tragic events in the characters pasts, I did not find that it was overly emotional or dwelt upon these issues in a heavy handed manner which was a refreshing change. Emery is a take charge girl, used to making her own way and her own decisions. She was a feisty and fun character. Ryan was more laid back, partly from grief but also just his way of doing things. He came across as steadfast and loyal. The sexual attraction begins from their first meeting and leads to several hot and heavy make out sessions - well written and believable for the couple as they experiment and learn about each other. Though the mystery portion of the story is fairly easy to figure out, it made for an enjoyable plot and moved along at a fast pace.
As part of the Summer Lovin series, the setting of a small town in the Canadian rockies was well described and the secondary characters have their own stories with other authors (which will make one want to run and out and get the rest of the series!). Overall the tone of the story was relatively lighthearted with an interesting plot and some steamy sex as the lovers find their way to a happy for now ending. 4 stars!
I totally loved Losing it, by the fabulous Ms. North. With characters I was rooting for this book has everything you could ask for in a New Adult romance: angst, pain, love and loss. Emery Phillips heads to Stone Cliff resort, searching for a way to save her family home. But what she finds instead, and the secrets she unlocks changes everything. I loved watching the growth of characters and how they needed each other to find themselves. Well done, Ms. North!!
This story was a pleasant surprise. It is so different from the usual boy meets girl, boy hurts girl, boy apologises, and they live happily ever after. The romance starts out like a fantasy. Because really to stumble across a job at a resort that will lodge the staff, and find a hot guy asleep in your bed. Why could I never have such luck. And this story gets better. I loved it, it is a great story.
A quick read, but enjoyable. Pretty good story, at times a little unrealistic, but hey that's fiction. If you like a steamy romance then you will enjoy this one.
