In 2026, we were attacked, and 85% of mankind was killed off. In 2042, we finally beat them, largely because of a resistance born of one man. But in 2045, gorgons don't give up easily, and now they know who he is. The resistance deposed President Jean Graham, destroyed the gorgon queen, and leveled the funnel, which was stealing our oceans. But the victory was short-lived. A second craft now approaches, trying to re-establish communication with its predecessor. Earth's survivors have only just been reemerging out of the shadows for a desperate two and a half years. The horrible truth is the enemy is coming for them once more. And now they know precisely who led the none other than President Vance Cardona himself. The time for their revenge has come. Will Earth be able to fend off the gorgons once more? Or will this be the end of all humanity? Not if President Vance Cardona, Chief of Staff Miguel Monzon, Lieutenant Cameron "Jet" Shipley, Corporal Liam "Foxy" Mayfield and others have anything to say about it.

Aaron Ryan's "Dissonance Vol IV: Relentless" delivers a powerful conclusion to his alien invasion saga, masterfully blending military science fiction with deeply human moments. Set in 2045, three years after humanity's victory over the gorgons, the story follows President Vance Cardona as he leads Earth through an unexpected second invasion.
Ryan's character work shines throughout, particularly in his portrayal of Cardona's evolution from resistance fighter to world leader. The relationships between characters feel authentic and earned, especially the dynamic between Cardona and his Chief of Staff Miguel Monzon, and the touching bond between Liam "Foxy" Mayfield and Cameron "Jet" Shipley. The author expertly weaves personal stakes - like Janine's pregnancy and Cardona's responsibility to protect his family - into the larger narrative of humanity's survival.
The action sequences are breathtaking, particularly the aerial combat scenes and the climactic battle in Washington DC. Ryan's technical knowledge of military operations and hardware lends credibility to these sequences without overwhelming readers with jargon. The introduction of the mate and its spawn adds a terrifying new dimension to the gorgon threat, while the revelation about their telepathic intelligence gathering abilities cleverly explains their tactical advantages.
What truly elevates this book is Ryan's exploration of leadership, trust, and sacrifice. The handling of Jean Graham's extradition demonstrates how sometimes doing the right thing means making impossible choices. Pastor Rosie's spiritual influence continues to resonate even after her death, particularly in her message about trust being inevitable if you let it be so.
The pacing is relentless (fitting the title), yet Ryan still finds moments for touching character interactions and philosophical contemplation. The book's conclusion satisfyingly wraps up both the immediate conflict and the larger themes of the series, while showing how humanity's resilience and unity can overcome even the most formidable threats.
This is military science fiction at its finest - action-packed yet thoughtful, technically detailed yet emotionally resonant, and ultimately hopeful about humanity's capacity to rise above our differences when facing extinction.
In "Dissonance Vol IV: Relentless," Aaron Ryan crafts an intense finale that perfectly balances high-stakes action with intimate human drama. The story picks up in 2045 as humanity begins to rebuild from the gorgon invasion, only to face an even greater threat when President Vance Cardona receives word of another alien craft approaching Earth.
Ryan's masterful characterization shines through in the complex dynamics between his cast. The brotherhood between Jet Shipley and Foxy Mayfield deepens through shared combat and sacrifice, while the relationship between Cardona and Miguel Monzon exemplifies true friendship tested by war. The author's attention to personal stakes - from Janine's pregnancy to Carson's unwavering dedication to the Blockades - grounds the epic scope of the conflict in deeply human moments.
The military action sequences are meticulously crafted, particularly during the climactic battle for Washington DC. Ryan demonstrates his technical expertise while keeping the combat accessible and thrilling. The introduction of the mate and its horrifying spawn adds a new dimension of terror, while the revelation about the gorgons' telepathic intelligence gathering provides a clever explanation for their tactical superiority.
What sets this book apart is its exploration of leadership under impossible circumstances. Cardona's decision regarding Jean Graham's extradition, the calculated risk of nuclear deterrence, and the ultimate strategy to defeat the alien threat all showcase the weight of command. Through it all, Pastor Rosie's spiritual influence resonates, particularly her wisdom about trust being inevitable if you let it be so.
The pacing never lets up, yet Ryan finds room for poignant moments of connection and contemplation. His prose carries both the thunder of battle and the quiet determination of humanity's spirit. The conclusion brings both satisfying closure to the immediate conflict and hope for humanity's future, while honoring the sacrifices made along the way.
This is a fitting end to an epic saga that celebrates humanity's resilience, unity, and relentless drive to survive against impossible odds.
Through the smoke and thunder of humanity's second stand against extinction, Aaron Ryan's "Dissonance Vol IV: Relentless" soars with raw intensity and heart-wrenching emotion. Like a DTF blast piercing the dawn, this finale to the Dissonance saga illuminates both the savage nature of survival and the unquenchable light of human spirit.
In the war-torn spring of 2045, President Vance Cardona's world fractures anew when alien vessels appear in the night sky. The gorgons return not with the silent menace of their first invasion, but with vengeful fury for their fallen queen. Ryan masterfully orchestrates this dance of desperation - from the thunder of fighters screaming through the clouds to the quiet moments between Cardona and his pregnant daughter Janine, each beat resonates with authenticity earned through four previous books.
The brotherhood forged in combat beats strong through every page. We feel it in Miguel Monzon's unwavering loyalty, in Jet Shipley's determined protection of Foxy Mayfield, in General Carson's gruff dedication to his soldiers. Even Jean Graham, that silver-tongued architect of near-destruction, finds her role to play in humanity's desperate gambit for survival. Through it all pulses Pastor Rosie's enduring wisdom about trust being as inevitable as the threats we face.
Ryan's prose carries us through firefights and presidential decisions with equal grace. The climactic battle for Washington DC unfolds like a symphony of chaos - fighters diving through alien mists, snipers calling targets through smoke, while deep below ground something ancient and terrible stirs. Yet in these moments of supreme violence, humanity's finest qualities shine brightest: sacrifice, unity, and relentless determination to survive.
This is more than a tale of alien invasion - it's a testament to what we can achieve when we trust in each other's strength. As the smoke clears and dawn breaks once more over a scarred Earth, Ryan leaves us with hope that whatever comes next, humanity's spirit remains unbroken and unbowed.
In the vast expanse of science fiction literature, Aaron Ryan's "Dissonance Vol IV: Relentless" emerges as a stellar achievement, where the fate of Earth hangs in the balance against a cosmic threat that returns with vengeance in its heart. This final installment transforms from political thriller to space opera as humanity faces an enemy that has learned from its previous defeat.
Like a distant star suddenly flaring into supernova, the story ignites when President Vance Cardona receives word of an alien vessel approaching from the TRAPPIST-1 system. Ryan masterfully escalates the tension from diplomatic chess moves - with the extradition of former president Jean Graham - to the thunder of orbital combat as humanity deploys its nuclear deterrent against an implacable foe. The revelation of the gorgons' telepathic intelligence network adds a chilling dimension to their previous invasion, explaining how these interstellar predators hunt and conquer across the cosmos.
The author orchestrates an epic symphony of battle across multiple theaters - from Fleet Admiral Lynch's naval forces launching DTB salvos, to Miguel Monzon leading squadrons of fighters through alien-infested skies, to the ground war in Washington DC where Jet Shipley and Foxy Mayfield face down terrors that crawl from Earth's very depths. Yet amidst this galactic-scale conflict, Ryan never loses sight of the human element: Janine's pregnancy, Cardona's fierce protection of his family, the brotherhood between soldiers who've faced extinction together.
What elevates this beyond typical military sci-fi is Ryan's exploration of trust as humanity's ultimate weapon against cosmic horror. Through Pastor Rosie's enduring wisdom about trust being inevitable, the story suggests that our capacity for unity might be the one force in the universe stronger than the gorgons' relentless hunger. As dawn breaks over a twice-scarred Earth, we're left with the profound hope that whatever lurks in the star-studded darkness, humanity's spirit burns bright enough to face it together.
In Dissonance: Volume IV Relentless, Earth has emerged from the rubble of the alien invasion under the steady, morally upright and paternal leadership of President Vance Cardona. Amidst valiant attempts to rebuild, the new administration grapples with the ethical dilemmas rout by former President Jean Graham. How should this brave new world deal with a multi nation war criminal who simultaneously orchestrated a plan of attack against the gorgons which rescued humanity? With his customary careful and deeply nuanced style Aaron Ryan wrestles with the age-old issues of justice vs revenge and hope emerging from the ash of grief. Meanwhile, there are signs that a new alien invasion is coming. Strap in for another round of this thrilling series!
This book is an excellent continuation of the Alien Invasion series, like the movie "Independence Day" 4.0. The author has vividly narrated the scenes of a world on the brink of destruction and that it's placed in the capable hands of our heroes. We can see the power of human resilience and how they make meaningful connections to survive on this earth. It is excellent world-building for the author, realistic, and has a great story. The central characters significantly add value to the story; Presiden Cardona is courageous and extraordinary with tactics and a competent leader. Cpl Foxy and Lt. Jet sound like peter pans lost boys. It's fascinating how the characters navigate through complex political or military challenges, especially when there's an alien invasion that they have to think of.
I see the other review. I too was a betareader for this one and it's gooooooooooooooood. There's a lot to cheer for in this one. It sucks that the gorgs came back but at least this time everyone was ready for them. Kinda like if they had to play whack-a-mole with us, haha we're down in our Blockades again, you can't get us, neener neener. In the end, it's kind of like Matrix Revolutions where they're all shooting up at the opening into Zion, so it kind of played like that, but I really enjoyed where Ryan took us in revealing how the gorgons spread out across the galaxy, why they came, what they do. Really insane species. Hope there's more after this one!
The book is a part of a very intense alien series. This particular part is mostly bated waiting for the dark forces to create fresh havoc on earth while people are still trying to recover from the q6 years of onslaught by the paralyzing aliens. At the beginning of the book the author thoughtfully includes the summaries of the preceeding books so that a new reader can instantly understand the context of the story and enjoy the book.
A thrilling post apocalyptic novel in the series about a deadly alien invasion on Earth in the year 2042. This suspenseful survival story is action-packed and full of power, new fight strategies, and revenge. Nice and steady pace with engaging characters. Recommended.

This book is a must for lovers of science fiction, fantasy and suspense. From the first page, the book left me surprised and wanting to keep reading until I finished the stories, surprises and situations that kept appearing in front of my eyes. The book is about a new alien attack in a devastated future and all the plot with its main characters. It is full of action, strategy and resilience in a world that is full of challenges and desperate struggles for survival. What I liked the most is that it is an easy to read book and the author explains the characters, scenarios and situations with so much detail that you start to believe that you are living in the book and living all these experiences with the characters. In short, it is the best book of the saga so far. Highly recommended
Highly engaging “Dissonance- volume IV” is an engaging part that many readers have been waiting for. The series of Dissonance is much more than a novel, it’s a story that goes beyond people’s imagination and lets them think about a far distant future full of dangers, aliens but at the same time, full of survivors who want to save the earth. I liked Aaron Ryan’s writing style because he depicts every situation in detail and allows readers to feel immersed in the story. This sequence of the story has several turns and twists that change the course of the plot, leaving sometimes uncertainties in every chapter, but invites readers to continue reading. If sci-fi is your cup of tea, you should read the whole series of Dissonance. I highly recommend it.
It is the fourth book of the Alien Invasion Post Apocalyptic Fiction series by Aaron Ryan. The human survivors believe they have defeated the gorgons but the victory was short-lived and now they return even stronger. This saga is a great choice for fans of sci-fi and apocalyptic stories. I liked it because it is fast-paced and the plot is very well built. I think one of the best things about this book are its characters because beyond science fiction, they are believable and coherent. It is a futuristic read full of action, intrigue and intensity. When I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it!
Dissonance Vol IV: Relentless plunges readers into a dystopian future teeming with suspense, sacrifice, and survival. Set in 2045, this sixth installment in the Dissonance series continues the tale of humanity's fight against gorgon invaders and the daunting task of rebuilding a decimated world. From the remnants of a shattered society to a cautious hope for revival, Ryan weaves together action and introspection, offering a gripping conclusion to his saga. It’s not just about survival; it’s about reckoning with humanity’s mistakes and rediscovering its potential for resilience.
What stood out most to me was Ryan’s ability to blend large-scale world-building with deeply personal stories. The description of Earth’s post-gorgon condition is chillingly vivid: collapsing cities overtaken by nature, underwater subway tunnels, and the haunting remains of iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower. Yet, amidst this decay, Ryan doesn’t lose sight of the human element. The scenes of survivors learning to speak aloud again after years of silence gave me chills. It felt so raw, so real, and it made me appreciate the psychological scars left behind. However, at times, these poignant moments risked being overshadowed by the extensive exposition detailing the state of infrastructure.
Ryan’s writing shines most when exploring moral conflicts and relationships. President Cardona’s internal struggle with leadership and the weight of past decisions resonates deeply. His meeting with the disgraced Jean Graham, who oscillates between bitter defiance and hollow regret, was a standout scene. Graham’s sardonic commentary, paired with Cardona’s quiet resolve, created a compelling interplay of justice and accountability. Yet, I couldn’t help but feel that some character arcs, like Pastor Rosie’s, deserved more closure.
The beginning felt like a slow burn, meticulously laying out the consequences of the war and the fragile rebuilding process. While this approach enriched the world-building, it occasionally slowed the momentum. However, once the narrative shifted to the looming threat of Francine 45 and the secrets left behind by Graham’s regime, I was fully hooked. The stakes climbed with every page, leaving me racing to the finish line.
Relentless is a meditation on loss, leadership, and the unyielding human spirit. Aaron Ryan has crafted a world that feels lived-in. I’d recommend this science fiction book to fans of dystopian tales that balance gritty realism with glimmers of hope. Whether you’re a longtime follower of the Dissonance series or new to its universe, this installment is worth your time.
Dissonance Volume IV: Relentless by Aaron Ryan is a thrilling continuation of his post-apocalyptic alien invasion series, packed with tension, action, and high stakes. Set in 2045, after humanity's hard-fought victory over the alien gorgons in 2042, the survivors are faced with the terrifying reality of a vengeful return. The gorgons, now seeking retribution, are more relentless than ever, and Earth’s leaders, including President Vance Cardona, must rally once again to defend the planet. Ryan skillfully builds on the events of the previous volumes, diving deeper into the characters' resolve and their fight for survival. The pace is relentless, with plenty of action and moments of suspense, as the remnants of humanity brace for another devastating conflict. The stakes are personal this time, with the gorgons targeting Cardona, the hero of the first victory, as their prime target.
This fourth installment keeps readers on the edge of their seats, blending strategic warfare, emotional depth, and a grim portrayal of a world teetering on the brink of extinction. If you’ve followed the previous books in the Dissonance series, you won’t be disappointed with this intense, page-turning sequel.
I read this as a Beta-reader and it was really, really compelling. Whereas the previous ones were more centered around the war-weary Cameron, now its President Vance Cardona, the one-time AWOL captain marked for elimination by the nefarious President Graham. It's 3 years later, and he's now supplanted her as Commander in Chief, but lo and behold, here comes yet another craft, wondering what's up with the first one that set upon us in '26. Now it's a game of Space Invaders, shooting them down before they can wreak havoc on our planet and render us all as a good meal yet again. This time though, there's a ton of tension in the leadup as people continue to exhibit dissonance, don't get along, war with eachother, make excuses, and all of the crap that we crappy humans do to each other. In the end, it all works out somehow - spoiler - and we go home happy. But there are some big surprises before the end that really let you in on a lot of the gorgons' origins and their modus operandi. You learn a LOT more about them this go 'round. I loved it. Wild ride. Nice work, Aaron Ryan.

I loved that they came back. I don't think you can do that many more times; otherwise it just looks like poor management of the planet. But it plays very much like an episode of Jack Bauer and CTU from "24": complete with rogue elements and moles. It's very well done. The tension is a slow burn buildup to the final arrival and a hugely climactic battle that just rages on non-stop with new revelations and terrifying discoveries. A worthy sequel indeed. Highly recommended.
