I’ve waited so long to claim a mate. And now that one has been gifted to me… I will never let her leave.
Bella is mine. To take. To please.
To own.
Her village gave her to me to save themselves. But all I want is to care for my new bride. The world may say it’s wrong. But I’m not one to follow rules.
I only follow one thing. My own desires.
I take what’s mine at all costs. And Bella becomes my most prized possession. One I will protect until my dying breath. Some say monsters do not deserve love. But they don’t know about her and I.
She’s my fated mate. And everything she has to give… Is mine.
Read on a true monster romance where she has never seen a creature more fearsome than him…and he’s the only one she can trust. If you love fierce monsters, he falls first and hard, a huge size difference (wink, wink), and action-packed scenes, then this is the romance for you!
Anne Hale writes paranormal romance about dragons. All of her stories include smoldering, hot, dragons that claim their fated mates and protect them from a world that doesn’t understand shifters. Anne’s alpha male heroes protect their mates and provide for them during the day, and at night wrap their arms around them and make them forget the world. She lives in a world of magic and also writes urban fantasy. Anything to escape from her day to day life! (Source: Amazon.com)
Good plot. Had romance, enemies to lovers, slow burn, and medium spice. I liked the character development. It felt like the author grew more confident in the characters as the story went on.
The story started out good but after the main characters get together 90% of the rest of the story is repeated phrases, scenes, and concepts. I’m not exaggerating either, the author literally said and did the same thing over and over again almost in every chapter. And the plot… nonexistent. This could have been a great story… could have.
I wanted to like this book, so much, as it was my first book by these authors. However, the disconnect between the writing, the repetitiveness (I swear, if I heard the word tentacles, one more time, I was going to toss my kindle!), and the fact that the world building didn’t fit with the dialogue in my opinion. It all just created a pretty unreadable book. Which is so annoying because it could’ve been awesome.
Celeste King’s Sacrificed to the Mountain Demon dives into a world of fierce devotion and primal romance that hooked me from the first page. If you’re a fan of possessive, powerful monster heroes with hearts hidden under rough exteriors and heroines who find strength and trust in unexpected places, then this book is the perfect escape into the wild and the magical.
The premise is a classic fantasy twist: Bella, offered up by her village to the fearsome mountain demon as a sacrifice, soon discovers that he’s not the monster she was told to fear. The mountain demon—intense, possessive, and yet surprisingly tender—has been waiting for his fated mate, and when Bella is "gifted" to him, he’s immediately enthralled. I loved the way King wrote the demon’s fierce protectiveness over Bella; it’s clear from the beginning that his intentions are all about cherishing and protecting her. It turns the “monster” trope on its head, giving us a hero who might look dangerous but has an unwavering devotion that makes him irresistible.
The dynamic between Bella and the mountain demon is full of tension, discovery, and unexpected warmth. Bella’s initial fear transforms beautifully as she realizes that the creature she once dreaded is actually the one who sees her for who she is and would go to any lengths to keep her safe. Their relationship unfolds with a mix of slow-burning tenderness and scorching chemistry that kept me rooting for them all the way.
The story strikes that perfect balance of suspense and romance, making every page exciting. The danger and action-packed scenes amplify the intensity of their bond, especially since it’s a “he falls first and hard” scenario, adding depth to the monster’s feelings and his need to protect his mate against all odds.
With vivid world-building, heart-stopping action, and an enthralling romance between a fierce demon and a brave heroine, Sacrificed to the Mountain Demon is a wonderfully crafted monster romance that’s equal parts thrilling and heartwarming. For anyone craving a love story that’s larger than life with a “mine until the end” vibe, this book is definitely one to pick up!.

The cover art is gorgeous and immediately drew me in. I’m a sucker for a monster romance especially when there’s beautiful art involved.
The storyline had SO much potential, I loved the idea and the background but unfortunately, the delivery fell flat. It felt incredibly repetitive. One word that stood out (for all the wrong reasons) was growls—every time Jytos spoke, he growled. I counted around 112 growls, which became quite tiring. Another overused word was fuck. While I have no issue with swearing, it got boring when it seems to be the only thing he ever said.
The romance was mostly closed-door, with only some actual spice near the end. I don’t mind closed-door scenes, but when there’s barely any plot to hold onto, a bit more steam could have kept me engaged. Instead, Jytos and Bella seemed to just have the same conversation repeatedly, declaring eachother as “mine” like 80+ times!
There just seemed to be some lacking depth. Like Bella was ‘sacrificed’ to the demon in exchange for his protection of the town - this is NEVER spoken about, Jytos does literally nothing to protect the town or even speaks about it, it’s like a forgotten plot point to just get Bella to him?
Overall, I’m conflicted about this read. I wanted to enjoy it, at some points I did but at others I ended up feeling uninvested. It was just a bit of a swing and miss for me unfortunately!
'"Point is, you'll be better off here. And I... I want you to be happy with me." The words feel strange on my tongue. Since when do I care about anyone's happiness but my own? But as I look at her, I realize it's true. I want to see her smile, hear her laugh. I want to be the reason for it. "I'll try," she says softly, echoing her earlier words. But this time, there is a hint of genuine warmth in her voice. I nod, suddenly feeling awkward again. What the heIl am I supposed to do now? This isn't exactly covered in the Umbrath guide to human interaction.'
I really enjoyed this book. Good world building and wonderful characters. I liked both Bella and Jytos. His personality is different than what I expected (in a good way) and made smile. I was sad that he's the last of his kind and can't image how lonely that must feel. Bella took things (the aftermath) relatively well considering her village sacrificed her to a monster. I also can't imagine your whole village turning on you and asking you to give up your life in sacrifice to (hopefully) give them a better future. This was a fun, quick adventure. 4 stars.
Very slow, lots of repetitive information, and half of the story nothing but proclaiming their love for one another. Weird, random formatting aside, where we go from indent paragraphs to block formatting and back again, with no rhyme or reason, there’s a lot of elements introduced to the story that have never been addressed later. Potential foreshadows left unused.
Potential spoilers:
We have a dream of the village turning on her. Talk of something unnatural bringing the wolves of sorts together with talks of dark elves and sorcerers but that isn’t what we got. And when the big thing is gone they’re still a threat. A hidden cave with old tech that is never used to defend them. Setting up traps outside and inside the cave that are never mentioned or used… all would added to the story. Any of which would have added elements of danger and cut down on all the repetition.
I have read several of her free titles under the KU plan and decided to buy this based on those being fun and pretty good reads. The one she charges money for ironically would be the one that feels like it was written by a malfunctioning AI. You could play one of those “guess how many gumballs” games with the book by guessing how many times the phrases “mine to protect” “I protect what’s mine” and something similar there of is repeated. (My guess is 142x) the solitary mountain beast also talks like a college stoner who sometimes slips into caveman speak. It’s bizarre. And using the phrase “something I can’t name” “something I won’t name” when expressing feelings is a dumb new trend. This book is probably the worst book I’ve read in a long time and if you think the spice may redeem the bad parts… you’d be wrong. Vanilla with no sprinkles.
I love monster books because usually we are handed a metaphorical mirror as humans do something "monsterous" and the monster does something humane. The reader gets to ask themselves what really is a monster.
In this book, the human village sacrifices our girl thinking that it will mean that the god of the monsters from mountain will help safe them from truly terrifying wolves. Thing is this 'god' is really just the last remaining survivor of his species and he wants nothing to do with the silly humans but curiosity gets the better of him.
Ms. Hale does an adequate job of building the chemistry the two characters, weaving similar backstories, and intertwining emotional moments intertwine present to get that fire burning. It's felt natural. One of the few FMC that I liked.

This book felt like it was written by AI. The writing is repetitive - same words and phrases over and over. The dialogue is silly - people who live in a poor mountain village and do virgin sacrifices speak like modern day teenagers. There is no real character development to speak of. Descriptions are lacking and the spice scenes are more eye roll worthy than steamy. This book badly needed an editor.
Celeste & Anne have done an amazing job creating the world their Stories are set into. It's very detailed in all aspects. This story is one where Bella grows immensely as a character and while she does this she softens her monster.

Jyto and Bella. Shes his sacrifice. She makes him say things and feel things hes never done before. The story is well written and this is a good Demon dark suspensful romance. Very entertaining and intriguing.

This story could have been better. I did like that the demon Jytos was possessive of Bella. But it kept repeating how strong he is and how he will protect Bella. I also liked the action and the little bit of spice in it.
I hate to say this but each chapter says the same thing over and over it’s base is good but I feel like the author could have added more context to the story and less of the same sentence ever Paragraph.
Gen AI book cover. Most likely means AI assisted writing and given the repetitive nature of the writing….you see where I’m going. Also the book cover is laughably bad? Why is she keeping one eye out for the haters? Girly’s got prey vision.
I love the trop of sacrifice falls for the monster that's supposed to destroy them. Unfortunately this is about where my enjoyment ended. The writing is repetitive, the heat is non existent.
He is not a demon. He is a creature known as Umbrath. Black skin, claws, and tentacles.
Her village suffered animal attacks. They decide to sacrifice her to the beast that lives in the mountains. She tries to run away but they force her to go.
He never hurts her. He is kind. He teaches her how to survive in his woods. . . . . . . . . . . .He never helps the villagers. Ever. They move away and find a new home someplace warmer.
