Four Decades in Pictures brings together 150 images of Tribeca by award-winning photographer Carl Glassman, who has been documenting the people, events and street scenes of this evolving corner of Lower Manhattan—his home—for 45 years. As the editor and photographer for The Tribeca Trib, the newspaper and online news site founded with his wife April Koral, Glassman chronicled the life of the neighborhood, whether joyful or tragic, always looking for fleeting moments of candid human experience.
I really enjoy this, not only because of my personal connection to working at the Trib and revisiting some photos that I remembered from my time there, but because it's remarkable to see the dramatic evolutions that Tribeca has gone through since 1980. I don't think any NYC neighborhood has changed as much. It took a while for me to thumb through the book because I kept pausing to look up various addresses on Google street view to see the comparison to today. Carl is a thoughtful and talented photographer.
