This book is pivotal to understanding Mexico! Shows how Catholic Spain during 300 years--1521-1821--formed Mexico and made her prosperous and happy, but how the great Masonic Revolution (1821-1928) has made her poor and miserable. Shows that Mexico is still basically Catholic (97%) but is ruled by an anti-Catholic government. Full of insights and crucial to understanding Mexico.
Very thorough, seemed well-balanced, just rather too detailed for such a casual reader as I. I would have appreciated it more if I had needed the information for research or something, but as a non-Mexican who was reading out of curiosity I got a bit overwhelmed by the sheer mass of content.
Very interesting boots-on-the-ground type of history of Mexico from someone who had close ties with major players near the turn of the century. The one thing that stuck out with me was the number of times I could read one of his summaries of a revolutionary or dictator and say, "You know, that sure sounds a lot like [insert modern political person]."
Maybe it is just a great big wheel of time where nothing ever changes.
Interesting history. A bit difficult to read with all the names and with me getting mixed up on the timeline, but overall very scholarly written and seems to be a well-researched account of events.
