Avoiding fate is a lot harder than I expected.

The day the alphas dragged me to Golden Claw I'd thought my life was over. After years of running from the packs and the shifter cities they ruled over, I finally found myself trapped within their borders.

Trapped and surrounded by my scent matches. My fated mates.

Four, disturbingly perfect alphas, who claimed me as one of their quintet. Despite my determination to keep them at arm's length, and escape the moment the Alpha Council let their guard down… I find myself completely ensnared.

The pack works its way into my life and heart with an ease that should terrify me. They show me the perfection of a bond filled with respect and care, and give me a glimpse of a future I never expected to have.

A future that I’d believed would be my downfall.

When I’m stolen away by the very shifters who destroyed my mom, I find myself fighting to not only protect myself, but also the alphas I’m growing to care about. As more of my past is revealed, and the bond to my pack deepens, I start to question everything I thought I knew about my mom's death.

With enemies surrounding us, I have no choice but to trust in my pack.

Trust and hope that my world is not about to crash and burn around me.

* This is book two in a why choose romance with very dominant and possessive male main characters. The female main character will not choose between the love interests. It's a full length (115k words) romantasy and contains adult themes and descriptions that are suitable for 18+.

bruh what... what happened to the tension...? the slowburn? the push and pull? i... what? what happened to the cool emmeline from book 1?! i swear the fmc was horny for the majority of this book. it was so annoying.

ALSO THE NICKNAMES. brooo. it was EXCESSIVE. golden boy??? snow??? what???? it was funny in book 1 when they were just teasing. but in this book, the nicknames somehow became more important than they needed to be...... like how fucking old were these people. no one in real life goes around calling anyone golden boy i know it that much.

i swear it wasn't like this in the first book. i even stopped midway to go back and read book 1. because maybe i was high or something that day, and i'd gaslit myself into thinking it was good when in reality it was trash, but nope.... book 1 was amazing. this book however felt like it wasn't even written by the same person. it's like they forgot their own characters and what they were supposed to be like.

also the cringe...... GODDDD it was so bad. emmeline turned into a simp who got wetter than the atlantic ocean every time the alphas did literally anything. WHERE WAS MY WITTY AND STRONG-WILLED EMME FROM THE FIRST BOOK??????? now she was just crying and sobbing all the time from all the LURVEEEE like she wasn't just trying to get away from these people not even a month ago

there was too much "you're my soul, my heart, my mate, my forever" bullshit in it i wanted to die from all the cringe. i was FIGHTING for my life trying to finish this. literally what the fuck even happened.

not only they ruined my man slade (seriously he went from quiet, mysterious, was even barely in the book last time to him talking all the time now), they also ruined finley. his hatred didn't even make sense anymore. one page he was talking about how he understood emme was sad and heartbroken but the next he was like well, i call her icy queen because she's cold and doesn't have a heart bro you literally just saw her sobbing out of sadness and said you understood

bye i'm just gonna go sit in a corner and cry. I AM MOURNING 😭😭😭

the most FOULLLL cliffhanger oh my. i'm kinda pissed! ms jaymin eve, how could you do this to me!!

anyway, this was entertaining as hell, addictive, ridiculous, trashy goodness. this author always writes the best guilty pleasure reads. men were obsessed (except for whatever tf is happening with finley - i hope to get a bit more of him next book), and there wasn't really a plot, but i was entertained nonetheless.

where's book 3...

Really horrible cliffhanger (spoiler)

I loved this book until the end. As in, I finished it in one day kind of love. As in, I loved every vibrant character.

Then it was horrible. A forced mating? This is horrendous. There should have been a stronger trigger warning. And this particular cliffhanger means I will not read the third book. Nothing can redeem this happening to her.

With that, it's also unbelievable. Somehow, this omega got Emme past every precaution of Slade's, when Slade is so uber he can use phones to hack into foreign cities and wipe cameras (as we saw when she was rescued before). This is one of those cases where in order for the bad guy to look really smart, the good guy's talents are dumbed down. And that's one of my pet annoyances with writing.

I am exceedingly sad that what had such great promise ended up like this.

Ehhh I'm confused. This was not as good as the 1st book. Honestly nothing happened until the last 2 chapters, and in those last 2 chapters, I'm genuinely very confused about the . My brain is still trying to catch up with the ending - it was rushed.

I was also just a little bored for most of this book though, and the main characters are all boring now. There was so much insta-lovey behavior. I wanted more of a slow-burn from this series, but alas, here we are. Slade is still the most interesting character, and we got more from him in this, but not enough of what I needed.

TBD if I will read book 3. This was 2.5 stars for me, but I think I will round up.

Umm wtf happened?? I gave the first book 5 stars and was so excited for the second book in the series, and then this one made me so mad! It felt like half of the things that happened had no purpose, the FMC kept re-treading the same dumb internal monologue about why she shouldn’t bond with her mates, there was a completely unnecessary double cross at 85%, and the cliff-hanger made me want to not even try to read the next book. Like I am all for something dramatic happening at the end to make you excited for the next book, but I don’t really want read the next book now, because I just know the first 30-50% will be undoing this stupid cliffhanger. I’ve never been so let down by a Jaymin Eve book. I’m mad that I wasted my weekend reading this.

Unfortunately, predictably nothing to write home about
Way too many tired ass clichés and overused phrases and dialogues. There was no uniqueness or newness or anything fresh. Maybe this author should spend less time on social media and more time actually putting passion and uniqueness into her stories.

Ugh, another cliffhanger! I very much enjoyed reading this second book in the series. And to think in four months, I can find out how our FMC will make it out of her latest predicament! Great series so far, very entertaining.

Synopsis:
Opens up to Emme and Slade being trapped and Emme having her freak out. Slade breaks out of his little cage and into hers to comfort her. They get kind of close during their little kidnapping, but Slade gets them free and the packs shows up as he does. On the way home, Kellan gets hit by a spell from a witch meant for Emme and it almost kills him. Emme saves him by bonding with him and sharing her power. The alphas still don’t know how Emme saved Kellan. Emme gets closer with all the pack members except Fin. Fin isn’t as horrible as book 1, but still mean to Emme. Emme has second thoughts about not bonding to her pack and ends up bonding with Hunter. Everything is happy until after playing a small prank on Slade, Emme opens a book from the other omega in the city, Chelsea, and it turns out the book was boobytrapped with a spell that made Emme not able to control her body and Chelsea was in control. Chelsea made Emme write a runaway note and had Emme escape to her and Chelsea took her out of the city far away. While Emme was still under the spell, Blaine Rogers, evil pack alpha from her mother’s pack, shows up with Hunter’s evil dad. They force Chelsea to force Emme (who is still under the spell) to bond with a dragon who looks like Slade’s twin (his personality is that of a mindless robot), except he has a scar down his face. The bond seals in place and that’s the end of book 3.

First have to say, the nicknames are cringe. They are just awful. When you get a nickname right it is perfection, but the ones in this series are not it.
Not a whole lot of plot in this one. Like I’m not sure what the ultimate goal in this series is. Are we trying to figure out Omega/shifter magic? Are we trying to complete the quintet bond? Are we fighting against the evil pack? Are we fighting against Hunter’s evil dad? Are we watching our MCs overcome their past trauma to be healed and whole? What’s with the witches? Are we breaking the shifter curse? What is this story about exactly?
Kellan, loved him and his golden retriever ways. Hunter, loved his daddy dom obsessiveness. Slade, standing at my fav right now. Love a good strong silent type. Growly scary obsessive stalker. Fin, still need him to be a groveling mess because he’s still being a jerk. Emme, it’s dumb she still contemplates leaving and voices it, even though we know, she knows, and everyone knows she not going anywhere so let’s just cut the crap on that one.
Cliffhanger was diabolical. Definitely forgot all about Chelsea and the books. Didn’t even think they mattered after everything else going on. Should have seen the ending coming with the way the author was dropping breadcrumbs everywhere.
There are some plot holes that need rectifying. Like wouldn’t Slade know who Blaine was when he saw him? Slade grew up with Hunter, who we find out is Blaine’s half brother, so Slade should know who Blaine is since they should have also grown up together. Where did Chelsea get this magic from? There is a little bit of information about witches in this book, but their involvement is minimal and then all of a sudden people can get ahold of spells to use? Where is this relationship between witches and shifters coming from because so far all we know is witches cursed shifters. Yes, we see the Reeves pack has a weird relationship with a witch, but we don’t even get where that came from either. Also, the fact Emme escaped without notice from the compound. She ripped the shutters off and pushed the glass out of the second story window and jumped down and was able to stroll across the yard without anyone’s notice? Fin was in the house (and staff are also in the house) and he (or anyone else) didn’t hear an absolute commotion that would be ripping shutters off the wall or window glass falling 2 stories? How bout the chapter before, Slade taking Emme to train and we see Emme is an absolute weakling in everything. She even says she is weak through out the book, but all of a sudden she can rip shutters off a wall and push glass out a window and jump 2 stories down landing without falling or injury and walk away? I’m not even mentioning the fence. Nope, not possible. If your FMC is weak then she can’t all of a sudden be the Hulk without a reason. Then we get to Slade who is a tech genius, even Emme using a technology blocker in the house doesn’t affect his security system. But you’re telling me Emme makes it out of the compound, out of the city, by busting out a window and a fence and driving away in a beater car and no alerts go off on anyone’s phone? Slade did not turn his phone off. I went back and reviewed the chapter, it says he turned his “phone screen off” as in it’s asleep so I don’t know about you, but I still get alerts from everything on my phone that I want to get alerts from when my phone is asleep. In fact, my alarm system for my house gives me a notification when a door or WINDOW has been opened for longer than a minute. I don’t have the most sophisticated system, but I imagine Slade and Hunter as tech and security geniuses, as well as Emme stalkers, as well as her mates who worry for her safety after 2 kidnapping attempts would have a very sophisticated system so the likelihood that Emme would have made it past the pool with ALL of these factors is very unlikely. I think that’s why people, including myself, are having a hard time accepting the ending of this book. It has to make sense and it doesn’t. It made more sense to get kidnapped after a rocket was launched at Emme and Slade than this.
I have a feeling though that this dragon is actually Slade’s twin, and his egg was next to Slade’s when Hunter’s dad found Slade’s egg, but Hunter’s dad, being the evil guy he is, kept them separate for experimentation to the point that no one knew and experimented on the twin, making him completely inhuman. I have a feeling that this dragon will also be Emme’s scent match and actually meant to be part of the pack as well and in the end this dragon, who is now bonded to Emme, will be protective of her while she is in the clutches of Hunter’s evil dad. Although, this world is about a quintet pack and the Reeves pack already has a completed quintet, but if this new dragon is Slade’s twin then maybe since a twin has the same dna somehow the Reeves pack has six because Slade and twin have the same dna. Just some theories my mind is working on.
I really hope in book 3 the pack does not totally hate Emme for the note she was forced to write while under the spell that made her not in control of her body and realize it was all a ruse to try and get them to not go after her. I hope Chelsea and her whole pack get what’s coming to them because I think they were all involved. I’m definitely invested to see what happens next. I want all these broken people to get a HEA.

“Our pack dynamics will all work out the way they're supposed to, in the time they're supposed to. This isn't a sprint... it's a journey. And we all started at a different place.”

A Twist of Luck picks up immediately after A Curse of Fate, and while it expands the world and the bond dynamics, it didn’t quite land for me the way it did others. There's ambition and tension, but pacing issues and emotional missteps held it back from being the breakout I was hoping for. This sequel had me hoping for a deeper connection to the characters and a stronger payoff to the tension built up in book one. While there are definitely moments of impact and expansion, I walked away feeling a little more distant and a little less invested, unfortunately.

Emme remains a solid protagonist. She’s still cautious, still guarded, still fighting against everything fate says she should be, and I admire her continued resistance. She’s trying to choose love, safety, and power on her own terms, which remains the emotional anchor of the story.

The bond dynamics grow. We get more depth in how Emme interacts with the alphas, and there are some touching and emotionally vulnerable moments. The group isn’t perfect, but their flaws make them feel more real, even when some of them remain a little underdeveloped. Kellan’s arc shines, and Hunter and Slade have moments of strength. But Finley feels especially flat, his evolution felt abrupt and muted. The quartet bond felt uneven this time.

The world expands in promising ways, even though I'd like it to be more. There are new places, new players, and a growing sense that Emme’s story is part of something much bigger. The stakes rise, and while I won’t spoil how, let’s just say there are plenty of twists that shift the ground under her feet.

Now, on a bitter side. The pacing felt uneven, at times, it dragged. I found myself skimming sections that felt repetitive or overly internal. Emme’s internal monologue circles around the same fears and hesitation, wearing thin before real action arrives. The build promised more than it delivered. I wanted more action, more consequences, more movement, especially in a book that seems to be building toward something massive. I didn’t feel fully satisfied. This book felt like a bridge, necessary for the plot, but not especially memorable. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. It left me curious for the next book, but not desperate for it.

The ending left me with mixed feelings. The new character seems really promising and I'm excited to get to know him better and the plot twist caught me off guard. The stakes are even higher now and the outcome of what is happening in their world could be disastrous. That screams plot expansion and higher action and angst to me, which makes me excited for the next book. However, I'm very afraid with a sense that the next book might spend 50% just undoing fallout and not really developing more. I truly hope I'm wrong.

Finally, A Twist of Luck carries the weight of transition. There are emotional beats that hit, relationships that evolve, threat escalation and a few surprises along the way with the world-building deepening in intriguing ways. But it also feels weighed down by repetitive internal scenes, uneven character focus, and a worrisome cliffhanger. For me, it didn’t fully live up to its potential, just like the previous book. I still care about Emme, her mates and their journey, but I’m hoping the next installment finds a stronger balance between introspection and forward momentum. It’s still the kind of book I’d recommend if you’re invested in the world and characters, but be warned: the sequel may have to redeem itself. I'm hopeful, just cautious. It has a solid setup, but I needed a stronger pay-off that never came.

(I won a ARC from the author for this book a little early!)

I thoroughly enjoyed this addition to the series and seeing all the relationships progress. The world is slowly getting fleshed out and the bigger story is getting revealed. It ended on a cliff hanger that rivals the first book 😭 but I’ll be dying until the next one comes out!

bruh

I’m annoyed. I was really excited to read this book after finishing the first one but i absolutely hate that it’s a cliffhanger. I wouldn’t be as mad if the third one was out already but waiting till June… yeah no i won’t be coming back for that. I just feel like majority of this book was filler. Some of the character development and relationship development was really slow/non existent and honestly only a handful of things happened in terms of plot that actually pushed the story forward. Basically after kellan wakes up the most interesting part is the very end of the book.

Good fantasy palate cleanser between bigger series, but was again thrown off with using Alpha and Omega in the titles. I am still curious enough to keep reading the series when the next one comes out in June! But why did they have to be so filthy rich that they could get 4 expensive armoured vehicles delivered overnight? That and their mansion really takes you out of it

ummm 😃 that was terrible! Literally what happened between the first and the second book? Where is the competent FMC? HOW is she supposed to be 25? I was PUMPED that this released early but why did she do that!! 😀😄😀

The nicknames were cringey and forced. Snow, Ice Queen, Icy, "Icy the Ice Queen"?? literally had to close the book and walk away. Finley was juvenile and poorly written. Slade's character development was extremely unbelievable and went from 0-100 from the end of the first book to the start of the second book.

Also girly, the whole power sharing thing can't be THAT much of a secret if you're asking everyone and everybody if they have heard about it, followed quickly by a quirky "oh no reason! ☺️🤪"

Both times she tried to tell them her "secret" an explosion would conveniently interrupt her? ...Ok.

"Twice now, I’d tried to tell the alphas this truth, and twice the universe had intervened in the most explosive way. It almost felt like a sign to keep my mouth shut. With Kellan stuck in a magical spell of containment, it really didn’t feel that important anyway. The truth, and my past, weren’t going anywhere, and I had many more pressing issues to worry about."

You really don't think that information would be important or helpful right now? Yeah, okay, sure. Just lazy.

The plot twist was also extremely predictable. It is seriously so boring when the entire latter half of a book is uneventful up until the literal 97% mark where... you guessed it! another kidnapping cliffhanger. Surprise surprise. This sucked.

I was bored. It feels like this book is part of another series. In the first book, Emme was strong willed and independent but in this one she was crying over a jacket, weak, horny and didn’t even defend herself against Finley.
By the way, Finley doesn’t make sense anymore, his character fell flat. Ice queen? Really??
Kellan was still Kellan and that I loved.
Slade was totally different. Its not like he evolved but changed entirely.

This book could have been included in the first one, it didn’t add much to the story. Except for her bonding two guys after a month when she spent 10 years running away from shifters #weird.
Also, the ending was pretty much the same as the first one.

In A Twist of Luck, the story picks up right where the first book left off. Our fierce heroine and her four bonded shifters—wolves, bear, and dragon—are thrown into even more danger, heartbreak, and impossible choices. Just as the bonds start deepening, the threats become very real, and the cost of fate starts to take its toll.

Honestly, this book wrecked me. First, we finally get those sweet, emotional moments of connection between the dragons and our FMC... and then boom—straight into absolute heartbreak. Watching our golden boy suffer? I haven’t cried like that over a book in ages. It was painfully beautiful to see not just her grief, but how all the strong, untouchable alphas fall apart without their sunshine holding them together. Every single one of them fights to keep going, to not shatter completely, and it just hit me so hard.

The story was emotional, addictive, and so beautifully written. I loved it, even when it tore me to pieces. The only thing that felt a bit off was the ending—it was a little rushed and left me feeling like I needed just a bit more. But with that brutal twist and yet another cliffhanger, I’m already desperate for the next book. I can’t wait to see what happens next!

every time the author needed to create tension for the main characters, emme either 1. refused pack bonds or 2. got kidnapped. the sheer amount of times that she got kidnapped in these books, despite her pack apparently being the absolute best and the most powerful with the best technology to ever exist. it just became unenjoyable at a certain point, especially after she couldn’t even tell her bonded mates the real reason she didnt want to bond?? after TWO books?? only reason i finished this one was to see if she would bond with slade, and spoiler alert, SHE DOESNT. will not catch me reading the next one 🙂‍↔️

I’m not gonna lie, the opening to this one had me stumbling a bit as it kinda reviewed events that happened in the previous book BUT once I past that, I was sucked back into this paranormal fated mates romance. This book gave more. More character development. More insight to the bad guys. More spice. More SLADE 😍 I mean, you get the point lol.

I loved getting to see more facets of the terrifyingly broody dragon shifter. I mean, a freaking PRANK WAR??? Obsessed! If you couldn’t tell, Slade is definitely my favorite 🤭

These shifters, all four, are obsessed in their own ways with their little omega and it was fun getting to read more about them as they deepen their bonds by spending time together and dealing with the trials life throws their way.

I enjoyed the first book, so I was looking forward to this one! But book #2 wasn't my favorite.

I felt the characters were written differently and that there was a lot going on but also nothing going on. I’m not sure. I’ve been thinking about the book all day and I’m still disappointed in the read because I was soooo excited!

The main characters inner monologue and the nicknames were rough lol!

I might try to read it again. Sticking to 3 stars because I’m loyal to book #1 and I’m still excited to read book #3.
