Since I encountered Jones' reel on Instagram accidentally, his poetry has been captivating my soul. There are so many amazing poems in this book, and I've read some of them multiple times, underlined, commented, and felt every single word. It is amazing to me how contemporary yet traditional the poems can be. Can't wait to read more in the future.
About 20% of the time I felt like there were layers to most of the poems I just couldn't quite understand. But the rest of the time, I was pleased with Jones' artful way of packing a punch with very few words. While his readings on Instagram of them hold the most weight, I found reading them aloud to myself also brought much more substance to light.
I liked the IG stories I saw of Lucas Jones and his poems. That’s why I bought the book - slightly disappointed because most poems weren’t in the book. I think out of all I really only liked one poem.
But he’s super talented so for sure the people who are more into poetry will appreciate this.
I love a poetry book I can’t help but reread again and again. I love Lucas Jones and his brilliant mind and his way with words. Some of his poems play on repeat in my mind. I ordered this book 3 times without knowing most of the poems in there because I want my friends to have a copy of their own and now that I’ve finished it, no regrets.
I really loved it. Though I must admit, his poems are even better when performed by him. Me reading them to myself just hit a little bit different, but I'm still glad I did.
I got this book because I love Lucas Jones’ spoken poetry. I think this is the first of his books and it definitely shows some maturing of his style towards the end poems. I kinda wish they were all like that though. I also wish it was a bit of a larger compilation. But some of his poems are amazing and he just blends in very well our contemporary world with the sentiment in the writing. I definitely want to check out his later books too.
I carry this book with me all the time and randomly open a page and read it.. I’ve read the same poems over and over and it feels different every time. Love this
I adore it. Lucas is my favourite poet and I can hardly believe I exist in the same timeline as him. This is what ir must have felt like listening to MLK or going to see a Shakespeare play debut at the globe. He’s just different. His words are healing… there’s something so very raw and relatable about his poetry and he strikes the perfect balance between using simple, relatable language and also writing with a complexity that means you could spend days unpacking all the layers to his work. He’s a genius and this book is magic.
