Standing over six feet tall, USA Today bestselling author Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair of a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.
He has written the DEMONSOULED series of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write THE GHOSTS sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the COMPUTER BEGINNER'S GUIDE series of computer books, and numerous other works. His books have sold over one million copies worldwide.
I found this incredible difficult to put down, and while the overarching story sometimes makes me want to get out and push, the story that is true to the title moved along at a nice pace, and included enough twists and turns to keep me turning pages. The climax burst onto the scene, and immediately gripped me, which was lovely, and flowed nicely. The resolution was a nice touch, and I can't wait to continue with this series.
As Ridmark and his friends continue crossing back and forth over the lands it seems that as he vanquishes some foes he picks up some new ones along the way not to mention another ally. Yet even as he continues doing great deeds and for the realm as well as for some of the Dux he is still branded as a coward and forbidden to use or carry a sword in the realms but as he continues to prove time and time again one doesn't need a sword to vanquish his foes a good stout staff in the right hands can over come a sword. Moeller in addition to being a great story teller has even shown that the characters even have a sense of humor as well as for the own little quirks which makes them come alive even more.
The Ridmark troupe encounters a master thief and many deadly enemies. It ends on a cliffhanger, was entertaining enough I'll start it immediately. Really digging this series, addictive.
Very much enjoying the adventures of the Gray Knight and his collection of followers/partners in mayhem. I’ve purchased all the books in the series now, so I’m committed! I do have a problem with the proofing errors but don’t know if they are baked in or if some of them are transcription errors in going to Kindle versions. Still, distracting. This author has a splendid eye for detail and an enjoyable sense of humor. I’m torn between enjoying the books and feeling like they could each have advanced the story a bit more. I find myself surprised when I finish one in a day, like it should take more effort I guess. There’s already a great deal of repetitive descriptions of battles and fighting sequences, and how awed everyone is by his technique. It’s only Book 4 or 5 and I’m afraid/resigned to keep reading the same descriptions through number 15. For someone as clearly able as this author, it just seems lazy. For all that, I would certainly recommend the series. An enjoyable read, with a well drawn and complex world created that entertains, enlightens and makes one consider where they stand and what they might do if faced with the same sorts of challenges. And indeed, aren’t we all faced with choices between good and evil, speaking up or hiding out, helping others or turning our backs and minding our business?
RIDMARK ARBAN is the Gray Knight, outcast and exiled from the High King's realm. Yet he alone sees the danger of the terrible Frostborn, the creatures that will sheathe the world in ice and quench all life. But none of the lords of the realm believe his warnings. And his enemies want him dead...and the secret allies of the Frostborn wish to silence him forever. As old foes and new enemies close around him, Ridmark must fight for his life. Or else the Frostborn will return, bringing eternal ice and darkness with them. The Master Thief's plot takes place in a city and its catacombs, a change which I enjoyed in this book. Additionally, several minor characters make an appearance which adds to the character development of the major players whom readers have already started to get to know. If I had to find a criticism, I would point out that this particular book reveal little regarding Calliande's identity. I'm still waiting anxiously to learn who she truly is. I am enjoying this whole series, on to the next> Great Reading everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the situations the Gray Knight gets into were not so desperate, I would say this is all a farce. It seems that Ridmark and his followers are constantly throwing themselves at situations, bumbling around in the dark, and stumbling upon success quite by accident. They are all strong minded individuals, who are not used to working together as a team, until they are really in hot water. Then they all just fall into line and have each others back almost naturally. I guess that's why these are called fantasy books. But as unreal as it all is, they are an amazing group of characters having amazing adventures. I look forward to reading the second half of the series!
Another excellent entry in the series.Ridmark Arban and his companions continue their quest to prevent the return of the Frostborn. However many obstacles stand in their way and the companions are truly tested on multiple fronts.Through four books the characters have really resonated with me each one flawed in their own way.I be remiss if i did not mention the addition of the halfling thief Jager. Not only did he bring a lot of comic relief to the story he also showcased the role of the underdog never giving up and showing all kinds of heart.Cannot wait to read the next installment a short story called the assassins tale.
In Frostborn #4, our merry band is joined by no less than a halfling master thief. So we now have a dwarf, an orc, a white wizardess, a black sorceress, and a renegade knight and his "squire." The plot, it thickens. The old timey fantasy tropes continue. I'm enjoying the nostalgia.
It took me a chapter or two before I was up to speed with the characters as it was a long time since I read books 1-3. However I was soon gripped by the eclectic mix of characters and their adventures. You can understand why Ridmark the hero is a knight with such a mixed band of followers. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
The band continues to sneak out of trouble. They keep getting a little bigger also. The story always is moving and never slow. There are a few grammatical errors through out the books.
If you like World of Warcraft or Dungeons&dragons type of fantasy you'll live this series. It might take a bit to get into it but once you do your hooked
I really enjoyed this book, its a good read. It looks like someone new has joined the crew and the reunion with his sister-in-law was masterfully done.
I'm loving these books and the action is always good. This book was good at making the mystery of Calliandes' past deeper and revealing a bit more about it too.
The Frostborn are coming back!Ridmark and friends are working to stop them. On an Alien world full of terrorible creatures, humans and the High Elves, are the ones that can stop them, and Ridmark and friends, will do everything to make sure that the Frostborn will never return.
quick read. a bit light. Reads like a moc]vie script with no story development. Action is good. I just dont really buy the hero's sorrow at the loss of his wife in the circumstances described. Sort of feels like get over it. But the story is still fun to read.
This series is easy reading with lots of action, good story and characters. There are 2 very short stories (about 40 pages each) between the last book - the ThiefTale and the Assassin’s Tale which introduce 2 of the characters in this book. They do not have to be read to enjoy the book.
The story line is engaging but the author continues to insult his readers by, apparently, never proofreading. On almost every page there are omitted words, reversed words, incorrect prepositions and just plain sloppy writing. It is very distracting and annoying.
This medieval-set tale continues in the fourth in series. Moeller seems to be slipping into cliques and predictable storylines. Not as well-done as previous stories.
