Bad Blood #1

The Beats in Rift

Rate this book
I was invisible, until they saw me.

When circumstance forced me and the Jacob twins to spend two weeks of the summer together, the bond we formed would impact us all, altering our lives.
Fate, entwining us forever.
They became my best friends, my family, my first love.
With their love came their father’s hate!
Love is powerful but also painful and destructive when it’s torn between three people. When my mother’s reputation and their father’s vile actions damage that love, that friendship, it changes the dynamics of our trio setting me on a path of love, loss and impossible decisions.

Jared the beautiful rogue, who pushed her limits, opened her eyes and owned her heart. Their love was powerful, everlasting… until he abandoned her. Justin, loyal and true, picked her up when she was left fragmented. He made a place for himself in her heart and would fight to keep it.
When both twins come in and out of Meadows life, leaving damage and hurt in their wake, will she ever choose one or the other, or leave them both without the beats in their heart?

MY RATING: ☆☆☆☆☆ "THE BEATS IN RIFT" by Ker Dukey

☆ Complimentary copy provided by the author "Ker Dukey" in exchange for an honest review ☆
~ THANK YOU ~

God where to start!! First off anything and I mean anything from this author you know it's going to be good!! I freaking inhaled this book!! I could not put it down!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

TWIN RIVALRY

It was almost but not quite Good versus Evil twin, he wasn't so much evil he just wanted and took what wasn't his..

At the age of thirteen when she's dragged to work with her mother "Meadow" notices two very cute identical twins..

The Jacob twins "Justin and Jared", very popular, good looking and wealthy..The boys take Meadow under their wing she spends time with them on a daily basis and their bond grows stronger if one was busy the other was free..

Jared nic names Meadow "Beats" because she makes him want to tap out beats, and Meadow called him "Rift" which oddly stuck even though she mean't guitar riff.

Even though the twins looked the same on the outside their personalities were very different, Jared being the Musician was a bit rough around the edges and Justin was the high school dream girls football player..

Meadow loved them both, they made her feel worthy and not trashy like her mother

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

"I've admired her, protected her, while being what she needs - a friend, I'm in love with Beats, I may be young but I know how I feel, puppy love or not, it was still love."

TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN, MY MUSE

The twins father is such a fucked up wanker in this, he treated her like shit and over stepped the line time and time again with pure revulsion in his eyes whenever she is in his presence. Things take a turn for the worst towards the end of the book there abouts..

"You're nothing but a fucking whore, playing both my boys just like your mother did with me and my brother, women like you ruin lives, you turn us into jealous messes. You use us for money, titles. You've been using my boys just like mummy taught you to, using your beauty against us."

YOUR BODY WAS MADE FOR SIN

Just like your mothers

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

SINS OF THE MOTHER

Things never ran smoothly for Jared and Meadow something always got in the way of their love for each other.

I live and breathe him, he's the last thought in my mind at night, and my first thought when I wake up

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Oh and wait for it there is a whoopsey moment in here too!! When she gives herself to one of them, but it actually turns out it was the other one!!

LOVE CAN BRING YOU LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS

His lips ravish mine, taking his kisses down my neck, sucking and biting. I cry out with pleasure from the new, aggressive side to him. My moans are loud, shattering the thick yearning-filled air. My nails rake down his back and shoulders, making him pump his hips faster.

And this is where shit starts to get real!!

"I loved you more than life. You were air for me, Rift, and when you left it was like living in darkness. My sun was gone. You made me feel like summer lived in my veins when we were together, so when you took off without a goodbye, a harsh winter set up shop within me, leaving me hurt, bitter and cold."

HEART BREAK IS WORSE THAN DEATH

I'm almost sad I've finished this, just left me wanting/craving more!!

Holy fucking cum slut she's done it again!!

I've come to the conclusion that Ker could probably write any fucking thing and it would be the ballocks. You just one click those mother fuckers and you are transported into a sitting on the edge of your seat, biting your nails whist flicking your bean all the while not knowing what the fuck is going on type of world.

I loved this book from the get go. The whole high school/nerd/jock thing does it for me. I'm also Into love triangles (although I would much rather a three way but there you go) but with this book it's not your typical love triangle. Unlike some books with the same subject I never once thought the heroine was a cock teasing whore. I fucking loved her and you actually root for both the alphas at the beginning but Jared won my heart and my muff.

I loved the fact it went from one extreme to the other. When you think you know what's going on and then BOOM some fucking shit goes down and then your back to square one. At one point I was so bloody nervous I didn't want to move until I read the very last paragraph which left me in a cold bloody bath at 1am this morning wrinkled up to fuck, then I forgot my towel but that's a whole different story.

I've said it once and I will say it again, this fucking bird can write a fucking book! I will read any wanking thing she creates. The one thing I love about her is she's not afraid to be different and that's what sets her apart from other authors.

Another amazing book by Ker Dukey. I loved every fucking minute of this book and can't bloody wait for more. I want Crystal and Ice's story and I kind of want to be in the book too, possibly in an orgy. So think about it.

She's my 'One Click' Author and another massive five stars from me.

❤️❤️❤️ ANOTHER WIN FOR KER DUKEY FANS. ❤️❤️❤️

Twins! YAY!! Thank you Ker!!
description

In my opinion The Beats in Rift is another slam dunk for Ker Dukey. We follow a love story from youth to adulthood and it is dramatic and provocative. I love Ker's ability to make me absolutely LOVE or completely DESPISE her characters so quickly. And she's just a pure genius when it comes to creating men I CRAVE!

I found myself instantly invested in the trio. The Jacob twins Justin & Jared and Meadow meet one summer and are instant friends.

description

The boys come from money and have everything they could ever ask for. Meadow has a slutty waitress mom. Outsiders looking in on their friendship believe that Med (Meadow) is just like her mother. Only using the boys to get what she wants. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Meadow is an intelligent, sweet girl. That loves music and creates song lyrics in her spare time. The kids meet one summer and become the best of friends giving Med what she really needs, self worth

Now my favorite twin is Jacob (that's right ladies HANDS OFF!) and to say that Jared's sexy motorcycle riding hot ass, is swoon worth, is like saying the Titanic was a cute tug boat! I want... no I NEED a Jared!

Unfortunately our trio are in for one hell of a bumpy ride on their pursuit for happiness. When you throw in sexual attraction, a dad strait from the depths of hell, and an egg donor Meadow is unlucky enough to call mother you'll see they are handed some pretty shitty cards.

As you know I would NEVER tell you what happens in the story all I can say is that I am VERY stingy when it comes to my 5th star and I hand it over gladly to Ker Dukey. This 5 star read is just another reason why I will gladly DEVOUR anything she writes. This author has proven time and time again that no matter the genre she was born to write.

This is a rushed confusing story and I had to go back to understand what I'd just read.

The story jumps weeks, months and years and it is not made clear by the author how much time had passed. Why rush a story that could have been so emotional, deep and thought provoking.
I just didn't feel any sympathy for any of the characters because the story is so rushed and I didn't have time to invest in a character and care for them, the story moved along far too quickly.

Some of the dialogue is ridiculous e.g.

spoilers ahead..................

If I'm reading an emotional multi-layered story like this, i want time to connect with the characters and care for them. I would prefer that the story be broken up into two books so that there is time to explore the different characters storylines, actions and emotions.

There is too much drama added into this story which could have been simple, touching and heartbreaking. Nothing is shocking, most of the drama made me roll my eyes and throw my kindle down a few times. I just had to torture myself and skip to the end of the story to see how the story wrapped up. Sometimes it's good to read a variety of stories and if a story is getting lots of 5 star reviews, i want to know why.

The book needs editing. Most of the dialogue sounds terrible, there are odd phrases and the whole story just reads like average fan-fiction.

Unfortunately the book is not that well written, there's too much drama and after re-reading well written books like Reasonable Doubt: Volume 1 by Whitney G and Unteachable by Leah Raeder, i cannot keep reading these sorts of fanfiction type stories like The beats in Rift.

Geez, imagine a life where whatever can go wrong goes wrong and just keeps f'ing going wrong over and over... That's this book in a nutshell.

So, twin brothers, different as day and night, fall for the same girl. When one abandons her for sins not her own fault, the other becomes her soft place to fall. But, when the other brother returns, that soft place to fall hardens with jealously & his own fears of abandonment. From there, one misunderstanding after another drives wedge after wedge between these three broken souls & transforms their lives over the course of years.

Four elements to this story were extremely irritating...

First, a lot of the angst and heartbreak in this book between the three could've been prevented by simple communication. Characters run and brood and make poor decisions based upon the actions of others. I don't mind miscommunication as a plot element, but it's hard to read a story where EVERYTHING bad happens because someone is always running away without using simple WORDS that would clear everything up. It's an easy tactic for authors to keep a story going, but it makes for a frustrating, tiring read for readers that want depth from the dialogue within a story.

Second, months and YEARS skip in this book between each of these 'kiss' and run, lack of communication sequences between the three. It's a lota hard to believe that they absolutely can't f'ing find each other when they look, but always happen upon each other just as they've seemed to begin to move onward separately. The huge time jumps and insta-life developed off page between the jumps was irritating!

Third, it's fairly obvious which bro really has her heart BY HER ACTIONS, but she professes love for both, dates both, etc. Yet, the emotional love triangle never gets addressed for resolve through words (again there's no communication here). It just kind of plays out to where one of the brothers finally stands up and says "she's mine" and alpha-like ends any other possible outcomes. No rhyme or reason was given as to why f'ing now after so long!

Fourth, there's never any apology for all the abandonment she endured, for not believing her, for never giving her a chance to explain things, for how her virginity was taken, for calling her a whore like her mom. Nope, years would pass between the latest blow-up and meeting one of em again and all would just be swept under the rug for a few hours or days until another blow-up and the cycle repeated.

Now, the above said, it's still a very emotional story that will captivate you and make you root for a HEA despite all the irritation. I just feel that more communication was necessary for readers to understand all the characters went through and reach that HEA. I never really got that:( it just was kinda 'oh okay shit just worked out... Yeah, whoopie!!'

Beats was a good character. She just couldn't seem to win no matter what choices she made. How many times can one survive being abandoned, misused, and distrusted by the people that are supposed to care about you the most. Her emotional plight with the twins and her mom pulls at your heartstring, and, despite wanting to slap her for not insisting when the brooding boys NEVER let her explain things, I respected that she never gave up on love. She could've easily turned into her mom! She wasn't a pushover per se, but she should've been angry at these guys because she at the very least deserved an apology.

Will she finally get a happy ending with one of the brothers that love her fiercely but constantly push and pull her only to leave her holding her broken heart in her hand, or will she eventually find love elsewhere?

Overall, a decent story that just never sealed the deal for me because I wanted, needed more than "true love prevails" ... No work, groveling, or communication needed! 21/2 stars.

*Slight spoilers ahead*

So, when I read what this book was about and how the rating for it were high I immediately thought that I would love this book.....let me tell u..I was extremely disappointed.

The story had no flow to it as far as I could tell...there were so many breaks in between...a few months, one year, two years in between and there was no indication as to when this was happening so I was confused the whole time. At least the author could have put something like "two years later" of start the chapter off by saying " it had been two years since that day..."

Also, Jared and Justin's crazy dad!! I hated that Justin couldn't see past his evil facade! What I hated even more was that although he was a main part at the end, there was no real build up to the climax. It's written that he was supposedly stalking Med and that he had a relationship long before but this subject was only touched upon and not expanded...like HEllloooo the guys stalking u because of his hold up with your mother. It should have been mentioned that she had felt someone stalking her or watching her. This piece of info just came out of nowhere!!

Another thing, I loved Jared's character but the fact that he kept running off when things got too hard was just a big fat no-no for me. I mean this book didn't even represent Rift and Beats relationship!! I saw the connection but I felt as if the story didn't show the love and respect or any of the dynamics of their relationship.

It was just not worth reading and I'm really sorry because I see all the great reviews and I feel horrible that I didn't connect to this book.

Another amazing book by ker Dukey. I loved it so much that I am always left speechless to explain what I am feeling. I never had this problem :) She gets better and better. This book is about Two brothers and Meadows. They become friends ,they start growing up and feelings develop between the. When you read the interaction of the brothers and her you will feel the love, their friendship their need. They were the heroes and of course their will be a villain. This isn't a book where you know what might happen. and what happens is something that will shock you. While reading it you will have your eyes glued to your Ereader!! Its that good. Both Jacob twins are intense. The shit they deal with life is intense. The love they have is intense. It's a story bout how a vile creature like twins father can do to destroy their life but its a journey how to survive, trust and come out strong. There are twists, turns ,surprises which changes the path.
I felt like I was in the story shouting, experiencing what they felt I love being on edge while reading a book. this did it to me. I was scratching my head what's going to happen! and trust me scratching my head didn't leave me pretty as I was a guest in someone else's house but my heart ,mind soul was totally in the book.Fantastic job once again Ker! I am lucky to part of blog tour!!!

I was given an Arc for an honest review ~

Ker has produced an amazing, gripping, keep you guessing and falling for the very delicious Jacob Twins.

The Beats in Rift takes your through the lives of Meadow and her strong friendships with Justin & Jarred ~ Identical hot twins in many ways, however, one is a slam you up against the wall type of guy and the other is a hearts & flowers guy.

Meadow who starts out lost & lonely develops into a strong woman, she loves the twins and the bonds they develop are unbreakable until you mix in love, passion trust issues and a twisted spiteful father.

I do not want to give any details away, this book needs to be read and for you to feel the love, hurt and emotions for yourselves ~ Remember the heart wants what the heart wants !!

I have read all of Ker's books and loved them all, The Beats in Rift is the best I have read so far from Ker 5*****

Yet another fantastic book from one of my favourite authors. I love a good love triangle and The Beats in Rift didn't disappoint.
Meadow first meets twins Justin and Jared Jacobs at age 13. Poor Meadow has a bit of a rough childhood, her mum's the town whore and Meadow suffers for this. When she meets the twins they all just click and spend the next two years becoming best friends. Although she wants to be friends with one twin, it's the other that she's hot for. Finally at 15, they get together, only to be ripped apart on Meadows 16th birthday, due to the twins dad and his lies. After spending the next two years trying to get over the loss of her first love, Meadow finally gives the twin who was left behind his chance of been more then just friends. All's going well until a tragedy hits the Jacob family and old faces return. That's when it really starts getting good but that's all i'm saying. This book has it all. A fantastically written love triangle, brilliant relatable characters, a man who you just love to hate, a great story and ending, and of course like all Ker Dukeys books, hot sex. I loved Meadow and the twins, not to mention some of the other characters like Ice, Razor, Max and of course Meadows best friend Crystal. I'm really hoping to hear more about them. Another brilliant book that i would definitely recommend.

unexpected delight.

This is an awesome read. Get ready for emotional ping pong with twin boys Jared & justin who grow up inseprable from Meadow.

Both boys love Meadow but with her love of writing music & Jareds passion for music the two are soul mates, Justin the football star takes a step back & is just happy she is happy.

Events lead to Jared leaving & Justin picks up the peices.

This is no high school love triangle though, oh no! prepare youself for whip lash with the twists & turns.

I never would of thought i'de be reading about a psycho, abduction, rock stars & biker gangs all in one book.

which brings me to the conclusion this has it all & its an awesome recommended read ;-)

I don’t know where to begin !! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK !!!!!
Meadow, well, she is just an amazing lead female. She is so not your typical whiney pain in the butt. She is raised by her single mother, who gave birth to her at a young age, and does all she can to not be lumped into the same category as her mother or the trash she is assumed to be. She is strong, independent and beautiful and its no wonder both boys love her to pieces. She clicks with each of the twins in different ways but one of them is her soulmate and that will never change or be denied.
Jared and Justin Jacob, the twins from Meadows school, who end up spending 2 weeks over the summer with her, and they develop a relationship and a friendship that does end up lasting a lifetime, though it absolutely has its twists and turns.
They are very young when they meet and form their lasting bond, but both boys show the signs of alpha right from the start. They are protective and helpful to Meadow and as it turns out, both end up in love with her. I love the twists and turns in their relationships with her, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that a few things that happened during those twists and turns were shocking as hell to me. It wasn’t an obvious. I was completely surprised at some of what happened and who it happened with or from, shocking the s*** out of me. I don’t want to give too much away, I'm really trying not to give you any spoilers…. but it grips you by the short and curlies and never lets you go. I could not put the book down (hence why I finished it in one day).
And I know what your thinking … OMG TWINS !!! haha yes …. They rocked my world, they will rock your world too. Identical in looks, completely different in personality. You will love them and they will piss you off and then you will fall in love all over again. Its hard to stay mad at either of them, and I'm never going to get over them. This is definitely a “re-read” kind of book, over and over and over.
Ker has yet to write anything that I haven’t loved. She has a way with the pen and I look forward to more from her. Hell, I was practically begging for her to get this one done and holy hell it was worth it !! The writing is impeccable and the grammar and spelling are perfect. Ker did a wonderful job developing these characters from childhood through adulthood. You can feel what they feel, as only Ker can give you
I would recommend this book a thousand times over.

Well what can I tell you about this book?
I could start with the amazing story that I read. It was a love story that was just a little twisted! True love is there but life and others becomes in between it and when someone you trust lies to you to gain your feelings you just don't know what to do. I know thats sounds complicated but it isn't when you read it, it is a truly fantastic story!
I could also mention the characters. I felt they were written well, making them very well rounded and likeable...well most of the time! I mean seriously...who does that to their son...or their twin brother!!! The relationships are a bit like...wow...in some places but it only adds to the feel of the story. Family loyalties are broken and lies are told leaving Meadow alone mourning the loss of the one boy who had her heart, and when he reappears and breaks her heart again she moves on leaving the only true friends she ever knew behind. But life is never that easy, and when her past finally catches up with her she has some decisions to make.
Meadow ~ She is a great character! I love the way she manages to deal with the craziness that is the Jacobs twins! But her heart truly only belongs to one twin. But when he continually breaks her heart she goes it alone showing how strong she was the whole time. I do love strong women!
Jared~ Gorgeous, hot Jared...what can I say? He's a bit of an ass! Not to begin with though, after finally admitting his feelings for Meadow he is an amazing boyfriend, but when things in their life go wrong he doesn't give her a chance to explain and disappears. This pattern of retuning and breaking Meadows heart continues until....well Im not gonna tell you that!!
Justin ~ Oh how I wanted to punch this guys lights out in the end! I don't want to say too much as it will tell you too much of the story....but he isn't everything he seems to be in the beginning and I was shocked with what I found out!

This story is a true love triangle...but its so different! I mean its twins!!! Ker just turned up the hotness factor by 100%! So lets check this....
Hot men...check!
Great story...check!
Twists and turns...check!

Yup....you all need to read this!!!! <3

Ker Dukey is a new author for me and I've got to admit, that if it wasn't for a book signing I'm going to this year I probably wouldn't have found out how fab her books really are.

This one is definitely different from the Empathy series, but it's just as intense, with a love triangle that had my head spinning.

Meadow, Jared and Justin have been inseparable since they were 13. The Jacob Twins will do anything to protect Meadow even fight amongst themselves. As the years pass and puberty hits in feelings change and both boys have fallen hard for their beautiful Beats. But when push comes to shove its Jared that Meadow can't resist. But one night changes everything and when trust is broken Jared runs, leaving Meadow broken hearted and Justin to pick up the pieces.

 photo F9027D3A-26E4-471F-8809-B734178799C7_zpsuaurymwl.jpg

Years later when Meadow feels she's ready to move on Justin's the one she turns to, but just when her life seems to be falling back into place Jared comes back into town.

From here on out its none stop drama, jam packed with emotion. There's secrets, lies and crazy father's standing in the way of a happily ever after. Meadow can't help but battle with her feelings, she doesn't want to hurt either of the twins and with this she only ends up hurting herself and loosing her best friends in the process.

#TeamJared

Can't wait to hear more from this series.

Jared, Meadow, and Justin….the most beautifully dysfunctional threesome ever! I’m a total fan of Ker Dukey and her Broken series, so when given the chance to read this story, I was all in. Once again, she did not disappoint, and I may just have a crush on the hottie Jacob twins.

Jared and Justin meet Meadow as young kids, when she was often dropped off and neglected by her loser of a mother, who was more interested in her flavor of the week. They soon become inseparable, and form an amazing bond of true friendship. The boys protect her from the many people who try to bring her down, and ultimately she falls in love with both of them for different reasons. One becomes her shoulder to lean on when she’s bullied and let down by so many, and the other is her heart and soul…plain and simple!

The struggles these three go through together and separately is unfathomable, and makes you appreciate the life you have with your family and friends. A true test in never taking what you have for granted, because you never know what tomorrow may bring. Definite WTF moments, which left me, quite frankly, yelling at my kindle like a fool! Abso-freakin-lutely loved it!

♡♡LOVED IT!
*****Be forewarned once you start reading this book you better have nothing planned because you won't be able to put it down!  You will start reading the story thinking you know how it will unfold only to have the unexpected happened and leave you craving more page after page.  It is magnificently written in three POV Meadow's and the twins Jared & Justin.
It takes place over the span of their teenage years into adulthood, allowing us to see how Fate, Love and Destiny always plays a part in their lives.  This story has everything...Friendship, Love, Suspense, Mystery, Drama and Hot Sexy Romance!
In true Ker Dukey fashion you will fall in love with Meadow, Jared & Justin but also be intrigued by the other characters, so much so that even though this book is a standalone, you are left wanting to read more about the secondary characters that we meet in this book!

There are not enough words to describe how much I loved this book. Ker Dukey just blew me away with her words. The story pulled me in from the very beginning.I loved Meadow she is so sweet and a great character even after the shitty start in life she has with her loser mother .The twins well what can I say, drool worthy hotness.I love how intense & alpha Jared is he just pulls you in with his sexiness. I wanted to kill him a few times but you can't stay mad at him for too long. Justin is so sweet and I have a little soft spot for him, but he is no Jared. I loved the friendship they have in the beginning and as it blooms into more you keep rooting for their hea but with quite a few bumps along the way things seem to be against it ever happening. This is a great story and never dulls from the first page to the last and it leaves you craving more.I am a huge fan of Ker her writing is fantasic and her lyrics are awesome.deserves way more than 5*****

I just loved this book.A story revolving around the children of two dysfunctional families.

Wow. I haven't read a book in one sitting in a very long time, but The Beats in Rift have changed that. This book was excellent from the first words. Sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn't stop. Who wouldn't want to love two extremely HOT male twins. I feel your pain Beats!

Grab this book now if you want to read about love, heartbreak, pain, psycho's, and really HOT sex!

I'll just dive right into this book. We follow the lives of Meadow (Beats), Justin and Jared (Rift). The story is kind of jumpy. It starts in the present and then goes back in the past, to how they all met. Meadow is not a very popular girl. Her mother has a reputation of sleeping around so nobody wants anything to do with Meadow. She is forced to go to work with her mom at a bar, because one of her mom's skuzzy boyfriends hurts Meadow, that is owned by Justin and Jared's uncle.

What ensues is a tale of friendship, love, hatred, loss and so much more. Meadow loves both Justin and Rift, who are twins. She falls for Jared first but due to a pretty crappy situation, he leaves. Justin swoops in and saves Meadow. But then Justin leaves Meadow too. The book goes on to discuss Meadow's feelings for the twins and the twins' feelings for Meadow.

I really did enjoy this story for the most part. Jared's personality was so sweet before and then all of a sudden he becomes this badass. He is a musician, biker and runs a bar. Justin is the all American boy, playing football and one of the most popular boys in school. Each of them care of Meadow in their own way but continue to hurt her every time they see each other.

Course Meadow didn't make things easier. She really irritated me most of the time. At first I felt bad for her because you can't help how your mom is. Kids can be so cruel. But she was constantly stringing the boys along, never able to really make up her mind until the last 80% of the book. It was just one big huge love triangle that got a bit old after a while.

I am satisfied with the ending though. I knew who she was going to pick in the end even though my thoughts wavered a little bit. I feel like the book could have been done a little bit better. I didn't care for all the back and forth between the past and present. I'm all for flashbacks but most of the story was almost in the past. Plus we lost a couple years at a time. I would have like to see what happened during those years. But in all honesty, it wasn't that bad of a book.

Btw I just have to gush about the title. How clever is that? Taking Meadow and Jared's nicknames and putting them together like that. Ah, swoooon.

5 ‘If music be the food of love, play on’ stars *****

You know when you sit down with a big slab of chocolate and you promise yourself you’ll only break off a few squares, but then you look again and realise half the bar is gone. Yeah, that was me with this book. Consumed within 2 sittings (only because the hubby would have been pissed if I hadn’t gone to sleep!), I devoured this book!

The Beats in Rift tells a story of Meadow and her relationship with the Jacob twins. They meet during one summer holiday and become firm friends. When Meadow returns to school, she expects that to be
the end of it, but she’s taken under their wings and strong bonds form.

Jared is like Meadow, musical and artistic. Justin is the athlete of the two. The twins only real resemblance is when they look in a mirror. But they both love Meadow.

Jared’s feelings come to a head when Meadow is asked on a date and comes to them, asking Justin for help with kissing (because Jared is dating someone at the time):

“Beats, your first kiss is meant to be special.”
Her laughter startles him. “Well Jared’s didn’t sound special, and you are special to me, so just teach me.
I don’t want to suck or crumble into a nervous heap if he tries to kiss me.”
She pleads in her cute voice that has gotten her what she wants from us since the day we met her. He looks up at me then back to her.
“Okay, fine. Of course I will.”
She beams at him, turning her body towards him.
“Now?” he stutters.
She laughs again, shaking her head in confusion. “Why not?”
I clench my fists so hard my knuckles turn white.
Justins shrugs. “Okay, just relax and copy what I do.”
He moves towards her, putting his hands on her hips and leaning forward. His lips brush hers, he adds more pressure before pulling back slightly. I can’t believe i’m watching myself kiss her, only it’s not me. It’s my mirror image, my freaking brother kissing the girl I love!
“Open your mouth,” he whispers.
Dipping his tongue, hers swipes out to meet his. Her hands press against his shoulders as she turns her head for better access. They look awkward.
“Enough!” I shout, making them both jump apart.

What would be really cruel here, would be to not give you the next part of this scene, wouldn’t it? Okay, i’m feeling generous, so here it is:

Striding towards her, my hand grasping the nape of her neck, I pull her to her feet. Bringing my other hand to clasp her cheek, I crush my lips down onto her soft, warm mouth. I caress her lips, coaxing them to part
with a flick of my tongue. She opens willingly, her tongue meeting my own with hunger. My skin heats as her hands slide up my back, igniting my lust further. When she moans into my mouth I want to write a song about the sound of that moan.

Can everyone say hot. I mean *sssssssss*, Jared just sizzles off the pages of this book and lights my kindle on fire.

For once i’m going to be mean here and only give you one quote (albeit separated), as I want you to enjoy the story and I don’t want to spoil anything along the way. You get to know and love, then sometimes hate both of the brothers throughout the story, as they both manage to break Meadow’s heart.

This is the first book of Ker’s I have read and I loved her writing style. I’m not sure if she always writes this way but for this book it does have a lyrical feel to it, not just when the lyrics are on the page, but throughout.

I was captivated, dragged into the story. The lows and highs, ups and downs, and ins and outs (why does that last bit sound so rude?!) of it all.

But you know what, how could this book fail with me? Hot brothers - check, Rock stars - check, MC club - check, nice bit of intrigue and mystery - check, Hot sex - check.

So go guys, go buy it in droves and see if your favourite brother is the same one Meadow chose. Was mine? That would be telling, and I don’t do spoilers!

THE BEATS IN RIFT is a story about a beautifully tragic dysfunctional threesome: Meadow and the twins Jared and Justin. This book is raw and intense… and left me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story.
It is a journey of love from teenager age to adulthood – along a very bumpy road, packed with loads and loads of drama and angst. Simply a real Ker Dukey novel!

So Jared and Justin first meet one summer when she is dropped off by her not-so-loving mother. Despite being completely different, they soon become best friends. The boys protect her whenever it is necessary – which it is quite often as people try to bring her down because of her… well… tramp of a mother. But time changes Meadows feeling toward the Jacob twins and she begins to love them for different reasons: One is her rock, her shoulder to lean on, the one she can always depend on – and the other simply holds her heart and soul, but is not at all that reliable as is his brother.

Now what the three of them have to endure to find their personal happiness is almost too much to bear. The saddest thing of it all is that the two main reasons for their pain are their own parents: Meadows slutty mother and the twins’ psychopath of a father.

Because of Meadows mother Mr. Jacobs cannot stand Meadow, believing she is just manipulating his boys to get what she wants. Although that could not be farther from the truth, he is really doing everything to give her a hell of a hard time. And not only she suffers from his bad influences, it is ridiculous how many times he tears this trio apart, how many times all of them have to endure tons of hurt and loss. Because of him also Justin and Jared make some really poor decisions that make one want to slap them… a lot.
But they are also facing the problem of loving the same girl: Meadow.

Contrary to what everybody thinks, Meadow is all but slutty. She is intelligent and sweet with a huge love for music and writing songs.

As for the twins… I feel for Justin. He has lost it all and only ever was Meadows rock to rely on and nothing more, but my heart beats for Jared. I mean, he really made some crappy decisions and hurt Meadow more times than one can count – buuuut… what on a sexy as hell biker (he surprised me big time with that one!!) who even can sing and play the guitar could not be swoon worthy? Exactly!

The style of writing in this book is just amazing. For one, you get three points of views, and secondly, the book covers a timeframe of more than ten years without being too long or giving you the feeling you missed out on something.

Although Jasper and Derek from THE BROKEN PARTS OF US still hold my heart, I can say this is another gem penned by the wonderful Ker Dukey.

Be in for an emotional and intense roller coaster with many twists and turns and sexual tension – just sit back and just enjoy the ride!
