Perry Chapman and his friends made a bet. Something they did every weekend. The loser had to create an account on the Monster Match app and go on a date. Nothing too bad in that.
Perry had great luck until he didn’t.
Using the portal to travel to the monster world, Perry’s date turned out to be hungry… and he was the main course. Running out of the safe zone, Perry had only one chance to escape but he ran into something worse.
A monster with wings. A monster who wants him. A monster who refuses to let him go.
Make Me Soar is an MM Romance with humans, monsters, scary monster world, some hot sexy times, and difficult decisions.
What can I say about me? I have two boys who keep me on my toes and a cat who adopted us. She walked in one day and hasn’t left. We might be getting a dog too. Who knows?
I love to read about men in love. Flawed, but strong men, who need some TLC and find their happy ending. I love to write about those same type of men too, sometimes with added kink! I also love to read horrors, thrillers and crime novels.
When I’m not trying to keep my boys in line, or writing about hot sexy men, I like to work on my allotment. I also like to read, to take walks in the countryside, and visit historical places. Recently, we went to Stonehenge and Avebury. It was an amazing experience.
DNF @4% ... the opening scene feels chaotic, with a lot of characters introduced with the kind of detail that makes it feel like maybe they'll be important to the story later... except I'm almost certain that they won't be, so this feels like confusing filler by an inexperienced writer. I'm already annoyed, and then saw another reviewer mention how this one feels like it's not even set in the Monster Match world - which was my complaint about last season's biggest fail in this series for me - so I think I'm just going to save myself the trouble and peace out of this one right now.
33% DNF for now. This book does not follow any of previous world building from any of the other books.
Starts off like a sci-fi monster horror story as Perry goes into the Monster World for his date, only to be tricked and forced out of the "safe zones" where he is hunted by a female monster who wants to turn him into a slave? Even with all that, this monster world is nothing like the descriptions from the previous books??? From there, the story turns into monster erotica. The monster claims Perry several times... like I said, monster erotica.
This might be fun to pick it up and read later. But it's hard now, because its obvious this is not a Monster Match book. I was thrown off with the "off world" comments, and calling some monsters aliens.
I felt like the story was being told at me. Also only in Perrys POV. I would have prefered some scenes in Menuts POV. Like WHEN did he pick up Perrys scent. Why this human made him feel how he did.
It was Good story, yet took Perry so long to work out something so simple.
This should have trigger warnings for dub-con because the first sex scene and then the whole relationship started after a aphrodisiac/chemical given to the human. so I DNF ed it from there. I usually read dark romance with dub-con but since this didn't have the trigger warning I was blindsided and then noped the hell out of this
Hey book besties-this isn't going to be a good one.
2 stars for the fact that writing a book is hard and I can't so I read them.
The book, it starts out on the premise of a few male friends playing card and drinking. Loser creates a 'Monster match' account and goes on a date in the 'otherworld', great. Perry loses and has to go on the date. He matches with a woman almost immediately because, Perry is straight BUT OH, this is an MM romance? Right. Perry matches with a female Monster and goes on a date-she is super rude to him, calls him an idiot and then he decided to still walk around with her after this? Anyways, she chases him and lets him know that she doesn't want to date humans she essentially wants a toy or a slave as this author so kindly states.
Perry and this female Monster are running around, Perry is just trying to get home when this other Monster comes out of nowhere and starts fighting his date for him. SWOON I GUESS!!!! Then we get inner dialogue (which this is a 3rd person POV the whole book is basically INNER DIALOGUE), Perry is cold and feels as if multiple things on him are broken but that's okay because this 'man-thing' is here to rescue him.
Pause. Because 'man-thing' just sounds so derogatory that I literally could barely get through the next few pages. Now this Monster states he is a Mothman and his name is Menut, STUNNING.
Menut takes Perry somewhere after capturing him from a tree that he was hiding in, and JUST GOES TO POUND TOWN. Now, I am all for insta-love and all the cute things but this? Dare I say this is non-con..
The build up before the capture..
"Perry lifted a leg onto the next branch and pushed up, groaning when his stomach rolled, and black dots appeared in his vision."
"Getting his ass on it, then moving so he could lean back against the trunk, had Perry trying to hold on to consciousness, the edges of his vision fading to black."
"He sat and breathed, waiting for his vision to clear, then catalogued all his injuries, which at that point were numerous. He touched his side, his ribs protesting, and he figured they were either bruised or fractured. That would be why he struggled to take a full breath, or it could be the stress of the situation. His knee felt like it had swelled up, his jeans tight around it. Looking at his hands and arms, Perry could just make out the numerous cuts and scrapes that littered his skin."
"He closed his eyes, then forced them back open again when he felt a wave of exhaustion wash over him. He had to stay awake."
"Shivering, Perry’s head nodded as his body slumped, exhaustion making itself known. His body wanted to sleep, but he knew he couldn’t. Not yet and not while he was so cold. Could he be hypothermic?"
TLDR; Consent- he is NOT able to give consent at this point and he doesn't.
Also, Perry states over and over again that he is STRAIGHT. How he is just okay with Menut quite literally taking advantage of him? More than 3 times AND riding him? Please be so for real right now. Consent is NEVER talked about in this book and that is so nasty.
So anyways, DNF 33% and this does not even include the grammatical errors inside this novella.
First of all, I love this series and was super excited for a season 2. But when I saw a bunch of DNF reviews I was concerned about this book and new to me author. Another part of me thought maybe other readers just didn’t give it a fair enough chance. So, I thought I owed it to myself, the series and the author to give it a fair shot. Without further ado, my review.
Our story starts off where a group of friends make a silly bet and the loser has to go on the Monster app and go on one date. In my head I’m thinking stupid frat bros are going to hurt some poor Monter girl’s feelings (cause they are “straight”) only going out with them for a bet. NOPE!!!! Turns out Perry’s date is a Bitch who is rude to him and tries to hunt and eat him. And not in the fun way.
I liked how we got to see another side to the Monsters in the Monster realm. How not everyone is down for integrating with humans as equals. Perry’s date used the app to lure unsuspecting men to be her pet/food.
Without going into your much detail, some missed opportunities for me, would be Menut’s POV and the bonding between our two MC’s didn’t quite click for me at the beginning. Perry who is supposedly only been with women and identifies as straight, was fine with having gay monster sex. It felt to me like rushed work at the beginning and the relationship build between the two MC’s was missed.
But I kept reading! The writing and the connection between Menut and Perry grew on me and FINALLY we get some emotional realization happening on Perry’s side (you know, cause there was no POV for Menut). I actually got a little teary eyed.
Like all other books in the series there is a HEA with an epilogue. On this I have one question…. When the fuck did MPreg become a thing?! I don’t remember it being mentioned in the other books. I feel I am missing something…when did this become a thing?
Perry Chapman and his friends have a bet, whomever loses at poker has to create a profile on Monster Match and go on a date. How bad could this be?
Perry’s date with Grailaine goes off the rails quickly. She doesn’t seem to like him or have any manners whatsoever. It’s on the way back to base that things go awry. First rule of going through the portal - don’t leave the safe zone! Once that happens, Perry is on his own until Menut saves him.
All Menut knows is that Perry is his. His fated mate, the one meant for him. He saves Perry from Grailaine, but he doesn’t take him home. All is fair in love and possession is 9/10’s of the law right?
This story had me on edge at first. I was like how is the author going to make this work with Grailaine and then Menut flew in and I was like that’s how! I didn’t expect how this story flowed from the jump. I liked the surprises. I liked how Aled was there to encourage Perry, to help him understand all his feelings. I liked the compromise that Perry and Menut finally came too. Their story was first all about chemistry and then became one of love. One that bound them together tighter than anything. I am absolutely obsessed with Monster Match season two. I’m excited to add another author to my read list after experiencing this story.
I’ll be honest, this book was a little difficult for me to get through. I understand authors write differently from each other and this is a multi-author series but I didn’t like that the author switched from first person POV (and switching between human and monster) to third person POV with partial omniscient views solely focused on the human.
Also I loved Perry and Menut but I don’t like that Menut didn’t really tell Perry anything in the beginning when he took him home to his cave. I also don’t like that Perry was just like “screw this I’m out” then Perry just left without trying to sit Menut down and talking about why they couldn’t compromise on things. I wanted more of Perry and Menut spending time together as a couple.
What I DID love though was the fact that despite everything Perry did see how he couldn’t live without Menut and went to live with him in the monster realm. I wanted more about their daughter Kylie!! The fact that this one had m-preg in it…😃 I want more about Menut as a dad and how he and Perry parent together!
So overall it had its good points and it had its downfalls. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from reading this book, because it turned out to be really cute in the end it’s just a few points I didn’t like.

Perry loses a bet with his friends and has to make a profile on Monster Match and go on a date. He goes to the monster world for a date. It doesn't go as planned and Perry can tell she really doesn't like humans. Things take a really bad turn and he end up in danger and injured. Menut is a Mothman and he basically claims Perry. Now here we get into some murky waters because there's some dub-con, bordering non-con going on. We have to suspend reality and understand that Menut really doesn't understand much about humans. Their time together was passionate and extremely hot. Perry, however isn't happy and is terrified of being in Menut's world and can't figure out how a relationship between them would work. He returns home only to realize that his life has completely changed and he can't live without Menut. He goes back and they figure out how to make things work between both worlds.
I thought I’d never say this about a book but, there was too much sex. Unfortunately the sex was neither sensual or sexy it was just repetitive and boring and perfunctory. It needed more world building. A connection other than sex. It only slightly picked up when Perry got his head out of his ass. It felt rushed and thrown together. One thing that would have perhaps made me leave more stars if it was dual POV. Menut POV could have had such an emotional resonance to the storyline if it had been fleshed out. It felt a bit like wham bam thank you mam. I’m amazed I read it all tbh. This is almost like a different person writing this. As if it’s a rough around the edges debut. I’ve read all of the Salutem books and 4 of Morefield Village I gave each one 5*, I’ve read 2 Sater Creek with 4*. I don’t understand where the quality has gone. Sorry to be a Debbie downer Megs.
So. Much. Repetition. This could have been a good short story. Or, instead of the obscene amount of repetition, the characters could have been fleshed out, and maybe add dual point of view. Just something to give some kind of indication of what these two see in each other. Menut is lacking a personality, and Perry is an idiot throughout 99% of the book. The world-building is weird because it doesn't line up with the other Monster Match books. There are several continuity errors. For example, you can't suck dick for the first time twice. Oh, then there's the unexpected dub-con the first time Perry and Menut have sex. Unexpected because there's no trigger warning and the Monster Match books aren't the type to have dub-con between the MCs at all. The author and editor are known to produce quality work, but something went terribly wrong here.
This book is part of the Monster Match multiauthor series, but can be read as an standalone. In a world where you can travel to a monster's world and meet them in a controlled set up, Perry after losing a bet has to go there and have a date. When his date goes awry he is rescued/kidnapped by Menut. Perry only wants to go home, Menut only wants his mate. Not only they are from different worlds, Perry never thought he would want a male, has a wonderful life in the city, a great job and isn't willing to leave everything for a cave. Menut only wants a simple life and his mate. A shortish story, with a very interesting take in fated mates, where you can feel a pull but choose to walk away, Megs Pritchard writes an enthralling tale where compromise and hard work are needed in order to earn a HEA. I liked this a lot, the characters, the world and the way it's written.
This book is part of the multi-author Monster Match Season Two series. Each book is a standalone read. This is the story of Perry Chapman and Menut. Perry is a human who loses a bet with his friends. He signs up for a date on Monster Match. All he has to do is stay inside of safe zone and all will be well. Unfortunately, his date has other ideas. While running for his life, he is rescued by Menut, Mothman. Or should we say kidnapped. As Menut declares that Perry is his mate and doesn't want him to go back to earth. After a few days, Perry, while feeling a strong pull towards Menut crosses back to earth. Everything should go back to normal now. But the mating pull is stronger than he realizes and it isn't getting weaker. This is their story.
I received a complementary copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a good story premise that didn't pan out IMO. Human loses a bet and has to make a date with a monster. The date is terrible & scary and Perry runs for his life. Ends up in unprotected monster land and saved by Menut the Mothman. The problems I had with the story is it didn't really feel like a Monster Match book. Yes Perry makes an account and it's mentioned that he lives in a monster town but that's it. Next there's no build-up to the mate, you're mine scenario. Just bam and we're supposed to be a committed couple. Also there's so much repetitive sex that it's just porn, no romance. The epilogue was the only reason it wasn't a two star for me. Sorry. 🤷♀️
I really liked the main character. He felt like a real person. But it felt like pages and paragraphs were missing. Like the author wrote off an outline and didn't flush it out properly. The monster character was 100% flat. He was like a npc. A good editor or beta reader would have helped.
It was a quick read but I do wish the MC’s had built their relationship a bit more. It wasn’t a very realistic love story. No build up or getting to know each other
I really enjoyed this story. These two were so sweet and hot together. I was so happy when they finally managed to get it together. I’m really enjoying this series.
basically: human goes on dare and then gets marked by mothman but they both like eachother. anyway human in denial and eventually not in denial and get married and have kids.
4.8 stars

Book description requires a dubious consent trigger warnings and mpreg tags (epilogue). Monster mc has no personality and exists only for the sex, which is a huge contrast to the other books in this series and very disappointing. Description of the monster world is completely unlike previous books set in the world so i think the author didn't read the others. Human mc and his friends only care about sex and rarely inquire about the nature of a partner, just their looks and sexual prowess. Author frequently repeats the same statements and dialogue and perpetuates the idea that rape requires the spoken word "no". Concept and world are great, so try the other books in the series instead. This one is getting a 1 of 5 stars because the lack of Amy effort given to writing the monster mc as a person and mostly because the author tries to convince the reader that sexing someone into submission while they are under the influence of magic is acceptable because the influenced individual didn't verbally say "no". This is stated plainly by the author more than once in the book. A non-con story can be great in the right context.... provided that the author is not pretending that the non-con or dub-con equals informed consent. A trigger warning or a story tag is necessary.
