Our family and friends think they know how Hattie and I met and fell in love.
But their version is a fairytale.
The truth is Hattie and I didn’t meet at a party, fall madly in love, and live happily ever after.
We fell in love many years ago, a little bit at a time. Falling for my best friend’s little sister was never in the cards until day by day, we couldn’t say no.
Then real life shattered our dreams, and we broke each other piece by piece.
I promised myself I would never go there again, but Hattie has always been my pull—the one woman I could never push out of my thoughts. I know we’ll hurt each other before we can find a way to make our love work, but I don’t want to walk away this time.
Our true story is about love, loss, and finding your way back. It’s about time, and how, if you’re very lucky, moments can turn into happily ever after.
About Time is a second chance, age-gap romance where we finally see how Hattie and Charlie found their HEA.
Kimberly Carrillo is a storyteller from the Pacific Northwest, currently living in a small town with her teenage son and a house full of pets. The author of the romantic suspense Destroy Series, and other books, Kimberly writes tales of beautiful, messy love. When she isn’t reading or out supporting her son at sports events she can be found moving a cat off her keyboard so she can help the heroine find the love that she deserves.
First time read of this author! And so good…then it wasn’t.
I loved the writing style and this author up until the part chapter 32 or something (80/90% of the book) she never sleeps with anyone one else in that 12 years they were apart (he did…and surprise surprise turns out they were still married 🙄) …why why why…not advocating sleeping around to get back at people but for flip sake give the MFC a bloody life so she’s not pathetic loser. She even has decent man who shows her over years he loves and still pines away for trash while he moves on. Not saying love people who don’t love but flip this fiction stuff is toxic and brutal for female characters. This character admits to thinking with what’s between her legs as an excuse for a man to treat her like shit. Why the heck would anyone rant this big with lots of stars? At least this character admits she fkd up her own life. I can only assume this is the kind of toxic bs that people like. 🚮🗑️

“About Time” is an angsty second chance that had me reaching for my tissue box. Author Kimberly Carrillo does this with all her books, and I should expect this by now, especially with her Broken Vows series. Readers were introduced to Charlie and Hattie in Book 1, “Two Wrongs.” Charlie was portrayed as the older, forever single, fuck boy, and Hattie as the somewhat unintentional distant Aunt to Wren. Though we get an epilogue in “Two Wrongs” and know how things end, we don’t see how things began—and neither do their friends.
In “About Time,” Kimberly gives readers a perspective through a different lens, as if we are part of Charlie and Hattie’s friend group, and their story is finally revealed. As Charlie’s best friend Griffin reacts to the information that has been withheld, we react, too.
There are several sensitive themes throughout the story. Many broke my heart, some made me angry, and some I could understand the character’s actions. Kimberly Carrillo’s writing has me go through this emotional cycle with each book of hers, and I always come back for more.
I enjoyed “About Time,” its angsty scenes, angry moments, and all the emotions it evoked—it’s the second chance of all second chances that I loved.
Oh my goodness! This book had me in a chokehold. I went through so many emotions reading this. I cried like a baby at times. There were many sexy and fun moments but there were also many heartbreaking moments in this couple's journey to a happily ever after. And they do finally get their happy ending! The couple Hattie and Charlie were so raw and so real. They went through so many misunderstandings, stubbornness and missed opportunities over the course of twelve years to finally be together. The relationship starts out with Hattie being 19 years old, Charlie is ten years her senior. This is an age gap, second chance romance. As what I've come to expect from Kimberly's books, she is not afraid of angst and breaking you emotionally only to put your heart back together in the end. Hattie and Charlie's love story was beautifully written. This is the story of how these two soul mates first got together and eventually found their happy ending.
Was I one of the ones that asked for Charlie and Hatties book? No, no I was not…but I’m damn sure glad that Kimberly wrote it. She was able to take a character that I didn’t think too much about and absolutely LOVE him! Don’t get me wrong he frustrated me to no end, but when he finally pulled his head out of his ass and got his shit together he didn’t let anything stand in his way of getting Hattie back. And I. Was. Here. For. It.
If you’ve read Kimberly’s books before then you know that she brings the pain and the angst, and this book is no exception, so you’ve been warned. But boy oh boy does the spice make up for it because let me tell you Charlie is a dirty, dirty boy, and I wouldn’t have him any other way.
I laughed, I cried, I broke out the fan to cool myself down during certain parts 🥵. So basically what I’ve come to expect from a Kimberly Carrillo book. Now, I’m just waiting on Harlow/Scott novella. 👀
This is the fourth book in this incredible series, and this is Charlie and Hattie’s journey. Hattie is Charlie’s best friends’ little sister, and they have a secret history, but they were torn apart by life. This is a well written emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, heartbreak, loss, grief, angst, secrets, revelations, an age gap, humor, second chances, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and tragic, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This was a second chance romance at its finest! Charlie and Hattie's story is not an easy one. Their on again off again relationship was real and emotional. You will be mad, frustrated, sad and eventually happy with the outcome. It wasn't the usual fairytale romance. The author really puts you through the wringer. I wouldn't expect anything less! I really enjoyed reading their journey to happiness.
Kimberly does not disappoint with this story. I was hooked on it from the beginning and the only reason I put it down was to tend to my son and do that mothering thing lol It made me cry for like a good solid 10 percent of the book, that’s how you know the characters resonated with you. So well written! The sex scenes of course were also amazing! I love the vibe of the two main characters and think it was a beautiful story from beginning to end.
We finally hear Hattie and Charlie’s story. We knew they had a HEA, but not how they got there. And Kimberly really took them on a ride to get there. I have loved all the books in this series. This one tells a bit of all of them but also what was going on behind the scenes with Hattie and Charlie during the decades.
About Time by Kimberly Carrillo 5 stars A lot of sizzling heat. Somebody get me tissues, you’re going to be emotional on this one. Age gap that is fitting and romance that just wasn’t their time yet. When a second chance came along Charlie wasn’t letting go. I loved their connection and all they had to go through to be together. A wonderful story.
The book I didn't know I needed! My heart broke for everything Hattie had to go through in such a short time. Charlie Charlie Charlie. He was her person even when he couldn't be. Ugh. Their story was beautifully heartbreaking and I loved every bit of it. He was his own worst enemy. We've all been there at some point. Thankfully, it was about time he figured his stuff out.
Such an emotionally heavy read. The pain and hopelessness was so well written that I could feel it deep in my heart. I had to pause reading a few times just to take a moment and remember “This is not happening to me.” because the emotions felt so real.
Kimberly has written another great book. Telling the back story of her characters is fantastically done. I recommend this book to anyone who wants some spice in their reading. Can't wait for her next book. Keep up the good work
Made me think about my relationship(s). All of them. People I've lost. Some I've loved. Our decisions , how they make others feel when it's different for ourselves. Very good story. They all were. An emotional one, for sure. Thank you.
This second chance romance was so emotional. It shows that sometimes love is not enough. Then it comes around again and you fight with every beat of your heart. This story blew me away from the beginning.
This is about a couple in their 50s? It's strange that it is marketed by the cover as a forbidden romance but doesn't leave up to the reader's expectation.
Hattie and Charlie’s story definitely had me wanting more. I couldn’t put my iPad down. These characters were so well written and the story was so easy to get caught up in. I absolutely loved it.
I loved the book! It was nice to catch up with all the other characters in the series. The book delves into Charlie and Hattie's pasts and the characters in the series. You will need tissues to get through the book.
