Happiness is only reserved for the upper class in the United States of America.

As a military wife who spends most of her time working for minimum wage, Temper Jensen can attest to that. Finding a spare moment to spend with her husband, Voss, is a luxury she can hardly afford.

Everything changes when the citizens realize that the president of the country is nothing more than a terrorist bent on total domination. Freedom no longer exists for the citizens of the United States of America and all who dare defy their new rulers are considered rebels of the nation.

Temper knows what she must do, even if it means being separated from Voss in order to save his life. Risking everything, she runs home to her moonshine-brewing anarchist daddy’s home in southwest Arkansas to collect a congregation of rebels to fight back. No one can be trusted, especially Temper’s devious ex-boyfriend who won’t take ‘no’ for an answer.

Can Temper reunite with her husband, keep her wayward family out of trouble, and restore the USA to the nation under God that it was intended to be—or will freedom as we know it be lost forever?

***I received and ARC from the Author for an honest review***

I am reviewing this for my blog Shanoff Says... on blogspot.

This book is so much different than any other book that I have read this year. It addresses something that is always in the back of my mind, that could possibly happen, and it scares the crap out of me. I only hope that if the things in this book did happen to our country that I would be a BAD-ASS chick like Temper.

In my opinion this book really isn't a romance, but it does show the devotion of a wife for her husband, her country and her GOD. Right off the bat you know that Temper is quite what she thinks she is. She sees herself as a timid, quite woman and boy is she wrong. Everyone sees her as so much more, she just needed the right push to really come out of her shell. She is strong in her convictions and is determined to make a stand for her country and God. We see a transformation in Temper immediately when the SPIT hits the fan.

She becomes a bad-ass chick who is ready to fight for her beliefs and to bring her country and it citizens back from the rulers. During her escape she is separated from her husband and makes her way home and it is there that she decides that they need to take a stand. They decide that they will travel the country and try to group together to over throw the rulers or at the very least get her husband back. You see her growing stronger as she makes her journey to find her husband and to gather more rebels.

I really loved Temper. She is such a smart and convicted person. I enjoyed watching her lead the group of rebels and the way she talked to people she came across them. She didn't know if she could trust them or not, but she still stood strong even if it was with false confidence.

I am not going to give anything away, but it is a MUST read. There is plenty of action and it definitely sucks you in. I could not wait to find out what happens in the end.

I was drawn to this book because of the cover , it intrigued me. I also have to warn readers, that this book is long at just over 500+ pages but readers do not be put off by this as I have to admit , it actually was a really good book. The book is set in today's society though is also a dystopian of sorts as the United States of America under the new President's watch becomes the United States of Amir as President Amir brings forth a new order that every human in America should have a chip implanted into their hands. This chip will allow them to do and have everything and those who rebel or refuse to get the chip will be killed and have deadly consequences thrust upon them. Temper's father known as "Daddy" since this story is told from her POV always taught her to be independent and stand up for what she believed was right and the rule she kept close to her chest was "Never trust anyone". When the war begins, Temper tries to escape with her husband Voss but he isn't so lucky . By herself she finds her way back home down South where her family is piling in resources and starting a camp for those who are standing their ground against the implants and being part of the United States of Amir. Read as word of mouth travels around to the different states and an Army called "The Rebels" are formed. Can this large group of mismatched people - young and old stand firm together and fight for what is right or will they discover that sometimes submission is the best treatment ? I really enjoyed "The Rebels" as it showed readers, that when likeminded people band together and stand strong , then anything is possible . It was also quite awesome to have in this type of book , a female leader rather than the stereotypical male. This is the perfect read for those who are wanting a more mature book where the Females are the Strong Heroines of the Story instead of the usual suspects of Men.

OMFG!

Wow! This was beyond exceptional!

UPDATE:

OMG!

I was just dying to wait to read this story from Brittany. I've been hooked on her work since she first approached me asking if I wanted to review "My Knightly Dreams"

I was blown away with characters, and moral of this outstanding story

This is a world that is at war and Temper is right, we have shied away from reality, were slowly loosing it right from under our noses.

"No one really cared about anyone else anymore, especially not strangers. It was a dog eat dog world...Every man for himself."

Temper lived on camp with her Husband Voss. Voss is a man of Honour. He would do anything for his country and his wife, but having to choose between his honour for the women he loves and the honour for the love of his country starts to take its toll.

There was a passage that Brittany wrote in this from the Bible. Now I'll be honest I'm not Christian and I don't go to church, but I do believe that there is "something" in higher places that are dealing our hands that we are meant to be dealt....and this passage...it moved something inside of me

"Then is my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. My eyes will be open and my ears attentive to every prayer made in this place. But if you or your descendants abandon me and disobey the decrees and command I have given you, and if you serve and worship other gods, then I will uproot the people from this land that I have given them. I will reject this Temple that I have made holy to honour my name. I will make it an object of mockery an ridicule amongst nations. And though this Temple is impressive now, all who pass by will be appalled. They will ask, 'Why did the Lord do such terrible things to this land and to this Temple?' And the answer will be, 'Because his people abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who brought them out of Egypt, and they worshipped other gods instead and bowed down to them. That is why he has brought all these disasters on them."

I don't really want to spoil the plot for anyone, so I shall try to refrain from exposing anything but to give you a low down of it all.

Temper and Voss see a change in the Government..somethings "off" for better or for worse...that is the question.

True beings come to light and it would seem power has gone to their head, Temper heading back home starts to think about the situation that she has found herself in...can she do this?

Heading to her home roots Temper finds a few "friendly" folk who kinda bring light to this darkened day and age.

description

After learning the true extent of the Governments deceit, Temper and her family start to rebel.

If it's a war their looking for, then it's a war they can so greatly welcome....I say!

Searching for those oppose to the Governments plans Temper and her family start searching.

Searching for survivors...

Searching for those who will fight back

Searching for.... The Rebels

Of course there were times where people thought why? Why are we doing this? Why not give in? Temper as strong as she is, doubted herself and her family for a short second...only to be shown the light....the true meaning living their lives.

" I wanted to live a normal life with my husband, raise a family and go to church on Sundays. My life was supposed to be about upgrading to stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops but just having a pot to cook in now was a luxury I couldn't afford. I was an outlaw, a criminal, a rebel, a murderer and a thief. My life was no longer what it was merely two months before. I suppose even I was crooked, although I tried my hardest to be ethical. I shook my head and picked up my pace, refusing to ponder anymore on what I was doing wrong or right."

I love the fact that Brittany (who by the way is a military wife) manages to keep Tempers character from doing the wrong thing at the end, I mean if it was me I would of killed the guy, but there are morals and lessons to be learned from this, which Brittany wrote so well...clearly a better writer than myself, hence why she writes for a living and I don't...Pahaaa

Anyway, The Rebels isn't a book to be messed with, you seriously need to nail down the hatches, lock all the doors and prepare yourself for a bloody battle with fate...oh and a feisty blonde haired beauty....Temper (she totally lives up to her name BTW)

I can honestly say that I felt compelled to write The Rebels. I took a risk on writing it and it turned out to be a complete game-changer for me. When I began writing, nearly six years ago, I honestly wasn't sure what I was "meant" to write. I just knew that if I didn't take a pen to paper immediately I was going to die, haha. I wondered for years where my purpose in writing was until I dreamed up the idea of The Rebels. I hadn't taken on a project like The Rebels before so I kind of tried to ignore it at first, but it wouldn't leave me alone. It was seriously driving me crazy. So, I decided to take the risk and write what I was meant to write. I can honestly say, it opened my eyes to a whole new world and I love every piece of it.

Temper begins life rather timidly, beaten down, so stuck without a voice like many of us are. Every now and then, her true personality begins to shine through, until she grasps her purpose, her courage, and embraces herself and her world.

Voss is a man of extreme honor. He has such a great love for his country that he is more than willing to lay down his life for it. Being a military wife, I know a few men (and women!) with similar characteristics. Voss finds himself in a dilemma when he has to decide how to serve his country best, which unfortunately requires him to do the unthinkable in the "military world."

Wesley... Oh, how can I describe Wesley? To be honest, he wasn't supposed to play as big of a role as what he did. To my own amusement, Wes just wouldn't shut up. I don't know why I ever expected any less of him anyway. There isn't much to be said about Wesley that he doesn't say for himself. We all need some fun, even when everyone is afraid, worried, hungry, cold, tired and oppressed, and Wes will take his fun wherever he can get it.

Daddy and Mama are fire and ice. Hot and cold. Dark and light. Opposites truly attract when it comes to them. Daddy can be harsh sometimes but that's what I love about him. He's a southern man to the core, always afraid of showing too much emotion. Mama, on the other hand, is as full of love and faith as she can be.

Shawn and Allison have a special place in my heart. It's been hard as a military wife to find true friends. We move around so often and lose touch with our loved ones. Temper, who felt very out-of-place in her own life, needed good friends like Shawn and Allison. I've met a few military families who I can truly say I'll never, ever forget. I love them to pieces.

...then there's Sutton, our black wolf. He's dangerous in more ways than one and if I ever write a sequel to The Rebels, you'll see much more of him.

I hope everyone who reads The Rebels understands how much love and pain I poured into it. It wasn't easy to write. There's nowhere in the world like the United States of America. We have the potential to be the happiest country there is and I believe we once were. I don't want to see our nation destroyed... I want to see it renewed, revived, improved. And the military? Well, I'm part of that honorable life. What I want everyone to understand with The Rebels is that many times, our military forces are stuck in the middle. Our military heroes see first hand how our country is failing itself yet all they can do about it is follow the orders given. It's time to be strong and reclaim our country. We were never meant to be passive little worker-ants for our congress to order around. We're supposed to have a voice! The longer we just sit around and follow the orders given to us by the "leaders" of our country, the more oppressed we're bound to become. How can the president even relate to "his" citizens? He makes $400,000 a year, not to mention his extra expense accounts, a free mansion to live in, etc... How can he possibly relate to men and women who work two or three jobs just to survive and feed their family? How can he relate to the struggling college student, or the average military family who GOES WITHOUT? How can our congressmen, who also make close to $200,000 per year, truly represent US? They can't. Furthermore, they won't, and they simply don't want to. It's our job to struggle and suffer so they can thrive. The sad thing is, they think we're too dumb to realize it. What can we do about it, anyway? Well, we should figure that out together. Stand strong, guys. Hope you all enjoyed The Rebels!

Phenomenal, Extraordinary, Amazing, Wonderful. Excellent, Powerful, Suspenseful, Realistic, Perfect. Those are just a few words to help describe The Rebels.

I’m not new to Brittany’s work, as a matter a fact I’ve read every book of hers. So I don’t even know why I was so surprised at how much I loved this. It’s truly remarkable. She knows exactly how to pull you in and not let you go. I was hooked from only 6% in. Yes, this isn’t one of those books that takes 35% to get exciting. From the very beginning she hooks you in. I love it! This is unlike any of her other books and in my opinion it’s her best work yet!

The plot is just a work of art. It’s an eye opener as well. This could very well happen some day. Makes you question what exactly you would do in this type of situation. I couldn’t help but smile at all the Bible verses. The Rebels gives you Hope. Hope that if this was to happen one day, we would WIN. We’d come together and take back our Country!

Now the Characters. Temper. Temper is strong willed, independent, stubborn, Fiesty, and so much more. You can’t help but to fall in love with her character and believe in what she’s doing. I highly doubt she knew how much of an impact she would make when she first started her journey. That’s the best part of all. :) The impact she had, and no matter how rough things got she was there to help motivate others.

Voss. Voss is Temper’s husband. I have to say when he stayed back at first I was a bit mad at him. I was like geez how could you just leave your wife? I know she can take care of herself, but that’s not that point. You should want to be there. I understood he wanted to defend his country as that’s what he signed up to do, but at the time he didn’t realize how crazy things were. So when his eyes got opened and he finally faught back, remarkable! I was jumping up and down clapping. YAY! So in the end he is a great guy.

Temper’s ex is super crazy. I can’t even begin to explain how much this man needs to get off his high horse and just realize that not everyone gets a second chance no matter the circumstances.

I am curious to know what happens with him though. You in a way left it open for more to the story. :D

I highly recommend. So if you haven’t #1clicked already get to clicking.

Hope. The Rebels gives you Hope!

Of course it's beautifully written. Brittany had a plan and she executes it perfectly. I have no complaints. I applaud you Brittany for yet another amazing read. You certainly have a gift. Thank you for sharing it with us all. I look forward to your next creations. I recommend this to everyone!

I rate The Rebels 5+ STARS!!!!!!!!

I love books. I love being caught up in a story, and I even kind of like the hangover that comes after, when you think you’ll never find another book as good again. I’ve been going through this since November, and this week I found the book that will leave me in another book hangover.

‘The Rebels’ is unlike anything I’ve read before. It had the end-of-the-world feel that I often find in other books, but it was laid out very differently. While zombie books and the like entertain me, I usually find myself not quite believing it… ‘The Rebels’ had a truth to it that was quite unnerving.

This book is incredibly well-written. The descriptions are amazing, the characters are fantastic, and the pace was absolutely perfect. I never once got bored, and couldn’t seem to put it down for more than a few minutes at a time. It kept me constantly guessing at what was going to happen next, and when I reached the end I slowed down because I wasn’t ready for it to end.

Characters are always my favorite parts of books, and the characters in this were especially great. Temper Jensen is undoubtedly one of my favorite characters of all time. She’s the kind of heroine I’d like to see more of – strong, capable, intelligent, and not only interested in saving herself, but her entire country. The other characters weren’t lacking, either. They all had their own voice, their own characteristics, and their purpose in the storyline.

This book literally has everything. It had me biting my nails at some points, laughing out loud at others, and sometimes smiling like an idiot. I annoy myself when reading because I’m constantly trying to guess how it’s going to end, and this book left me guessing.

I would give this book more than five stars if the rating system allowed, and highly recommend it to anyone who likes to read, and those who think they don’t. There’s something in it for everyone.

*ARC gifted by the author as part of blog tour*

For the last few months, I tend to avoid this kind of genre — war, rebellion since it is isn’t actually something I really enjoyed reading. But when I read the synopsis for The Rebels, I was intrigued by 2 things — unusual name of the main characters and the realistic setting of the plot. So, I decided to give this story a try. And yes, I was in for a nice surprise.

The plot is amazing! One thing that I really, really love about this is the Bible references and how this story can be serve as a warning for the future. This is a story that will teach each and everyone of us a lesson. This is story is something rare and to be treasured. Now, what is the lesson? Read the book and you’ll find the answer.

To Brittany Jo James, thank you for this amazing, incredible, life-changing book. I hope you write more books like this. And I am excited to read your other books especially A Pirate Princess.

To HEA, thank you so much for the opportunity to read this in advance and for promoting my blog. Looking forward to working more blog tours and releases with you in the future!

I love this book! It focuses a lot on things that seem to be happening now in America. The characters are very well written and the story flows perfectly. I loved the relationship between Voss and Temper. True love, one where you never give up on each other can be so hard to find now a days. I also loved the connection that Temper has with her family. They are witty and funny, but can also be serious and just down right love each other. Its ok to be a rebel, when the reason you are fighting in the first place is for what you believe in the most. I highly recommend this one to anyone and everyone! Great Job!

These characters were so well developed the story line keep me on edge wanting to know what will happen next. I loved temper, her character keep me turning pages of interest. The other characters were not just filler they played a well written role in the story line. The emotions the writer invoked in me was happy sad humor intense nerves if anxiety.

This is different than other books I have read by this author. Also, this is usually not the type of book I would normally pick up but I was intrigued by the cover and the storyline especially with what is currently going on in our world. However, the author is very talented and knows how to capture her readers into reading her books because I was hooked into this immediately from the beginning. The plot and details both are well balanced so your able to know what is going on in the story and the surroundings. I loved the characters that she has developed especially Temper because she doesn’t see herself as everyone else does, heroine and when things become though she doesn’t give up but fights harder for what she believes, she believes to just be like everyone else. Your able to see how strong she has to become throughout the whole story as obstacles are thrown her way. I highly recommend this book to my readers because it is just not another romance this one has true meaning behind it!
