Taking Me

Rate this book
Halloween is my hunting season.
Ghosts and ghouls provide the perfect cover for what I do under the veil of night. And nothing satisfies my urges like the chase of a deserving victim.

Except the kill.

I've always worked in isolation, saving people the way I wish I had been saved. Seeking penance from the corrupt, the evil, the foul. Until I met Ghost.

He’s somehow as dark and twisted as I am. But just as I'm learning to trust again, a demon from my past resurfaces for me.

I’m the hunter who’s become the hunted, and I need to end this once and for all. But this time, I can't do it alone.

Taking Me is a dark romance featuring an unhinged ex-military serial killer whose abusive past has tracked her down. Be sure to check inside for a full list of trigger warnings.

“Life is and always will be cruel. Maybe not for everyone, but it sure as hell is for me. In the shadowed alleys of a city that never slept, where the air was thick with the scent of desperation and decay, I learned to survive.”

Received this book as an ARC read! And let me say it did not disappoint.

Short and oh so good.. addicting even! I loved everything about it. It’s a dark romance and definitely has a few triggers so definitely take a look at the trigger warnings before reading!
It’s a Halloween book perfect for the season!! Its main character is an ex military turned killer, but she does it with reason! And she's a total bad ass!

This is the first book I have read by H.G. Rosa and I'm already excited to see what else she has out in the future!

"𝕴𝖒 𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊, 𝕷𝖎𝖙𝖙𝖑𝖊 𝕶𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖊𝖗, 𝖞𝖔𝖚𝖗𝖊 𝖘𝖆𝖋𝖊 𝖓𝖔𝖜"

What a ride. What an ending, what a book.
I'm gonna say it now, but please, god, read the triggers. I don't have any, and I went into this book blind. It takes a vile, graphic, sinister turn and for a good chunk of the book, so please please check the triggers.

Meet Tormenta, our badass FMC, who is lacking a little something after being discharged from the military, spends her days, especially halloween, enjoying an extra-curricular activity - killing.

When she meets Ghost, a tinder date, she realises quickly that she could possibly have just met her twin flame. He's into the same extra-curriculars, and they have a taste of watching each other indulge in killing when it all goes wrong.

HG Rosa. You, lady, are an incredible writer. The flow of the story is effortless, and I can't believe that the entire book was less than 160 pages. The writing is too real. It's too detailed in a way that I have never read before. It makes me beg the question of whether she has first-hand experiences in these harrowing situations or whether she's done extremely detailed research. Either way, I hope she's doing okay because it was HEAVY.

I eagerly wait for the next instalment, hoping and praying it's soon cos this is gonna be on my mind for ages. I need to see how Ghost navigates her through this.

Thank you so much for letting me read this before the release date.

Military, serial 💀, strong fmc
I'm not going to mention 🌶 because it was very brutally noncon

This is one heck of a debut novel. I can't get enough. This book was fantastic! The FMC is a total baddie but even she isn't invincible. The details bring you into the experience and make you really feel.

Tormenta- Ever since she got back from the military, she knows what her calling is. Ridding the world of scumbags and Tormenta knows how to do it. Quickly, quietly and without causing suspicion. Hunting is what she does and she always gets her prey. When a blast from the past threatens to derail her, Tormenta decides to blow off some steam. Finding some guy to get down and dirty with is easy. Finding a guy who can handle her kind of fun though, that's the challenge.

Ghost- Responding to the Tinder setup was easy. Finding this fierce woman irresistible and wanting more, that's the problem. Can she handle my kind of crazy? This date will definitely be a way to find out. No normal date will do and when she pulls out a mask that is similar to mine, I know it's fate.

Things do not go as planned... Tormenta's past catches up with her and she will have to stay strong to endure the hell that is about to unfold...

What happens to Tormenta and Ghost?

You will have to read it to find out.
Watch out for the cliffy!

This book was wild. Graphic. Addicting. Triggering. Amazing. I loved every single page. The author paints such a vivid picture. FMC is a badass with some family trauma and a military background who meets her match and then is swept away into a captor/captive non-con nightmare. The book was so expertly and vividly written. The ending made me GASP. I cannot believe it’s over I could’ve read another 200 pages of this story (which I finished in one sitting). It was incredible, emotional, shocking, spicy, and everything every dark romance reader with minimal triggers could want. There’s no incest, child abuse, or animal abuse, but read the triggers bc just about everything else is on the table. I am a sucker for kidnapping, weapon play, and obsessive unhinged characters and this book delivered all of that in more characters than one. A must read for those who love morally grey to black men and serial unaliving fmcs who face the unexpected and unthinkable. Five stars for this book and I gotta go because I need to sign up for the email newsletter and fan club of HG Rosa. Loved it. All of it. Can’t wait for the next book!

“Taking Me” is a dark, twisted, and addictive ride perfect for Halloween. H.G. Rosa masterfully crafts a tale that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Tormenta, a complex and ruthless ex-military serial killer, takes center stage in this gripping story. Her dark past and inner turmoil make her a fascinating, albeit unsettling, protagonist.

When Tormenta meets Ghost, a chance encounter takes a shocking turn. Rosa expertly weaves tension, suspense, and intrigue, keeping readers invested in the characters’ fates.

With its graphic content, dark themes, and trigger warnings, “Taking Me” is not for the faint of heart. However, fans of dark romance will appreciate Rosa’s skillful storytelling and complex characters.

I devoured this book in mere hours, and the ending left me eager for more. Rosa’s writing ensures you’ll be hooked from start to finish.

This book was soo good. I loved everything about this book! right when you start the book its eventful and it never ends. It is fast paced so hang on for the ride... you will not be disappointed. the main Character (her nickname is Tormenta) and Ghost(the name of this random guy she meets) have an awesome dynamic between the two of them, but before you are introduced to him you will learn more about her background. Her mother and her mother's boyfriend and the horrific things that happened. its such a good read. Make sure you read the trigger warnings! some of the tropes are: Kidnapping, Masked Main Characters, Obession, knife play, Ex Military, Unexpected Romance, Stalking. just to name a few.

Make sure you read the trigger warnings before reading this book.
It is definitely a dark romance!
I think it’s actually more of a dark kidnapping/revenge story!

We have T, who was abused at the hand of the man her mother was dating. She wanted to get far away and try to become someone better than what she saw in her mom growing up. The military and getting her first taste of a kill during battle really ignited a fire in her.
It awoke the beast who was sleeping within her.

Now that she’s back from the military, she donates to charities in the small town she lives in by day, and by night she whips out her ghostface mask and gets on her black beauty, her motorcycle. She then finds the lowest of the lowlife disgusting men and ends them.

One night she decides to meet up with a guy on a dating app. He too has a mask kink & a love for the dark side.
While they’re at a haunted house, her worst nightmare, the devil himself (her mother’s boyfriend) finds her.

And that’s where the book gets VERY interesting.
This book will leave you ready to sell your left kidney for book two!!!

Good thing book 2 comes out very soon! 😈

While this was a quick read, there was no shortage of action, plot or great storytelling. The characters were interesting, complex and mysterious. The story kept me hooked till the very end. And that ending has me impatiently waiting for me. This book definitely deals with some dark themes, so be sure to check the trigger warnings before starting it. That being said, I would definitely add this one to your TBR!

D&D: 💀💀 (Dark and Deranged)

Taking me is a story about Tormenta, an ex military woman that had a hard past that drives her to join the military, and turn that trauma into taking revenge on people who deserve it.

For Halloween, the night that she chooses her prey, she meets Ghost, someone that was going to be just a fling but ends up being someone that also has the same desires and interests as her 👀

But all good things come to an end, when Tormenta’s past comes back to haunt her. This is someone who once thought herself strong, healed from her trauma, and using that to take control, but ends up being sucked right back into it, making her defenseless, afraid, and unsure of what is going to happen to her.

Some people might read it as her becoming weak and useless, but when you go through trauma like she did, that is the furthest thing from the truth.

I know in future books that she will come back from this and get the true revenge that she deserves and craves. And I will be cheering her along the whole time 💋

Holy Shhh...Holy Shhh... This Book was amazing. I had the pleasure of getting to know the author a little bit and i was recommended this book by a mutual friends of ours, and when I say that this Book did not disappoint I mean that. The trauma that the FMC went through from childhood to her life as an adult is heartbreaking and shaped her into the person that she has become, the person she HAD to become to get through. Please if your going to read it and i very highly recommend that you do please check your trigger warnings. This story follows our girl Tormenta ex military turned assassin and the struggles she delt with and how blood lust and the sinister things she does to the cruel people in the back alleys of Chicago is the only thing that came tame the beast within.. That is until she is hunted down by a sinister person from her past someone that is coming back to haunt her every waking moment and have her looking over her shoulder. && then she meets Ghost. While she feels alone in the world she finally meets someone that may be as dark and depraved as she is, someone who isn't afraid of the things that she does because just maybe he may be as tormented and as dark as she is. This book had me in a chokehold and by the middle of it i already needed the next book. 10/10 ooh and there's spice..

The moment I started Taking Me, I knew I was in for something different. There’s this deliciously eerie vibe that hits you right away, like the hush before a thunderstorm. It’s dark, sure, but it’s also bursting with sparks of hope and raw passion.

What really grabbed me was the chemistry between the characters. They’re flawed, haunted by their pasts, and yet drawn to each other in a way that feels inevitable. Every scene crackles with tension, whether it’s a whispered conversation in a shadowy hallway or darkened moment that leaves you broken. The writing has a poetic edge that makes the darker elements feel strangely beautiful. Imagine the glow of orange lilies against the gloom of old secrets and chilling discoveries.

I finished the last page feeling both satisfied and hungry for more. Taking Me doesn’t just tell a story, it grabs ahold of you. If you crave a lost romance with a twist of trauma and characters who’ll snare your heart, then H.G. Rosa’s debut is well worth your time. I can’t wait to see where Book 2 takes us next.
Like seriously, I need it now!!!

⚠️ Definitely check the trigger warnings. There are a few r*** scenes in this novella. ⚠️ There are torture scenes too. This novella is a thriller, not a dark romance. Yes, the FMC finds interest in an MC who is like her but then we don't see him after she is taken by men working for her mom's ex, who is the bad guy. The s*x scenes are literally of him r**ing her. Most people giving reviews say it's a dark romance need to read the novella again. The ending is good though, the MC, Ghost, finds her and saves her. Then the novella ends on a cliffhanger. In my opinion, Ghost saving her could start a good friendship and eventually a love interest. My guess is the sequel will be her healing from the torture and then planning her revenge.

Jesus christ! what the actual eff did I just read.

This book was brutal, the content warnings are a must read before you start this book. None of the content bothered me but it is quite a dark read and the spice is all dark.

The way the main character fights throughout the entire book is something to marvel. She is amazing to withstand the ordeals thrust upon her.

Marklov, our villain, is quite simply the biggest c**t on the planet and I wanted to rip off all of his appendages and make him regret being born.

H.G Rosa is unhinged but in the best way, this book is brutal but there is something sinisterly hopeful about it and I cannot wait to read book 2.

This is probably the darkest book I have read so far and it certainly hasnt put me off from delving further.

Okay! Here we go!
I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!
I for the life of me could not set this book down even after midnight. I had to know what happened and I still need to know what happened!
The way the author writes this book you feel like you are in the room experiencing everything the characters are. You can tell she put so much time and thought into every single word that was put on this page. The background story, to her past life as a child you had all the information you wanted and needed!

I am completely obsessed with the baddie FMC I was cheering her on, crying for her, scared for her! I felt everything!
This dark romance will live rent free in my head for a while.
There are not a lot of thriller/dark romance that don't grab my attention but this one did!
After the second page I knew it was a five star! There was enough DR as well as thriller and it scratched my brain just right.
Get this book!!! And don't wait to read it!!!

Read your trigger warnings
I felt some serious heartbreak and feminine rage throughout majority of this book. Homegirl had a rough upbringing, but chose a path of strength and resilience. When I was reading the flashback to her childhood with her junkie mother, I was heartbroken for that little girl who was just tossed to the side. Then, as she grew up I pictured her morphing into the actress Michelle Rodriguez in like this badass sinister GI Jane type of character. There is a bit of romance in this. Which I cannot wait to see where it goes as it does leave off on a cliffhanger mid battle. I would definitely give this one a read especially if you have a taste for vengeance😈

This book is dark and twisted, the perfect book for Spooky season so...add it to your list for next year. No, actually just read it now!

It is a short read packed full of drama and action. The FMC is strong, fierce, and in control though the author also shows an alternate side of the character. You may scream and burn with rage at what occurs but, this character is not going down without a fight. I'm intrigued to see what happens in the next book cause that ending 🤯.
