My first mistake was falling in love with the handsome, married doctor. My second mistake was killing him…
I never meant to hurt anyone. I’m a nurse, it’s my job to help people. But sometimes in life things happen that you don’t expect, and you’re pushed to extremes.
I can’t let anyone find out what I’ve done... or why I did it. If the secrets of my past come out then it’s not just my life at risk, it’s my family’s too – darling little Campbell, just five years old and completely innocent. I have to protect him.
I can see blue lights. Uniforms. Police. I pray they’re not here for me.
Because killing the doctor isn’t the only thing I’ve done. My third mistake was something much, much worse…
A completely addictive psychological thriller from the number one bestselling author of The Doctor’s Wife. If you love Freida McFadden, John Marrs and T.M. Logan then The Nurse’s Mistake will have you hooked until the final, jaw-dropping ending!

Daniel Hurst has done it again! Another gripping, thrilling and dramatic book in his "The Perfect Nurse" series. If you have not read the previous books in the series, The Perfect Nurse and The Nurse's Lie, I highly recommend you do so. As with this book, they are addictive, riveting, fun, entertaining and tense page turners! With books in a series, I always like to share if I think the book will work as a stand-alone. I believe readers should read the previous books in this series as there is so much backstory, character development and continuation of plot that needs to be known so that one can fully enjoy and appreciate The Nurse's Mistake. Plus, they are both very fast and fabulous reads!
Darcy has always wanted to be a nurse and as a child she and her sister, Pippa pretended to be nurses to their stuffed animals and dolls. As a nurse, Darcy has made mistakes - some bigger than others. She also suffers from Amnesia because of an accident which affects her interactions and life as well.
The Nurse's Mistake picks up where the previous book left off and we find both Darcy, her sister Pippa, their parents and Pippa's husband and child hiding from the law. Things are tense and they find themselves in dangerous situations. I found this book to be thrilling, exciting, well thought out, dramatic and riveting. I didn't want to put this book down and the action was non-stop, and things kept getting more tense as the book progressed.
What happens when good people do bad things? How far will one go to protect a loved one? What sacrifices will people make for their families? This book examines all those questions and then some! Daniel Hurst does a great job of creating characters that readers care about even when those characters do bad things. He is also skilled at creating tension, dread, danger, and a sense of unease in his books. I found my heart beating a little faster toward the end of the book as things began to come to a close in this book.
Whew! Another thrilling roller coaster ride book from Daniel Hurst!
Thank you to Bookouture and Goodreads who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the third book of The Perfect Nurse series. This installment, like the others, immediately pulled me in. I loved how the story played out from the point of view of the sibling nurses. Each perspective was filled with intensity, suspense, and a constant sense of foreboding. There were numerous twists throughout that kept the plot interesting and intriguing. Once again, Daniel Hurst creates an original, entertaining, and addictive thriller that is hard to put down. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.
The 3rd instalment of the The perfect Nurse series sees the culmination if the events of the first and second books as Darcy and Pippa are both wanted and on the run. Pippa by herself and searching for answers in her Chicago past, whilst Pippa and the rest of the family are on the run in a secluded wooded area. With secrets, lies and danger lurking in every corner should both sisters just give up and turn themselves in? Maybe this way they can tell the world their side of the story. This fast paced 3rd instalment in told in a dual POV alternating chapters between Darcy and Pippa. The writing is very simplistic and plot based rather than character driven. Fans of popcorn thrillers will eat this trilogy up. My favourite will still be the first book but this one is better than the second in my opinion. Many thanks to Bookouture who provided me a copy of this book via NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.
I have never yet been disappointed by Daniel hurst. As always although part of a series this is wrll written and can be read as a standalone. Told from the pov of the two sisters Pippa and Darcy. This given a much more powerful and emotional look into their lives and actions and true consequences of them to everyone else as well as themselves. The action is faced paced and it's a quick read. The usage of other cgaracters from past and strangers helps with the tension. Iin places I was shaking my head saying no be careful don't do it. It was so engaging and full of twists and turns from the past which suteley helped drive the character arc. I was sad when it ended but I have a slight glimmer of hope that this might not be the end of the series. Either way I can't recommend this enough a 5 star binge read perfect for all. Thank you do much netgallery and publisher and author for this 5 star read.
OK, I admit it. I am addicted. Daniel Hurst writes what I like to call “popcorn thrillers.” They are fast paced, easy to read, a bit over the top, and, dare I say, fun to read. (See The Doctor’s Wife series). This is the third in The Perfect Nurse Series. After the second one I wasn’t sure if I would read the next. Yet, here I am, reading and writing about it.
Darcy, once a nurse, has amnesia as the result of an accident. She killed someone, relocated to Florida where she kills someone else, and is now fleeing Florida to hopefully reunite with her family. Sister Pippa, also a nurse, was drawn into the drama and also killed someone. Now Pippa, her son and husband and parents are on the run. Got that? What danger will they find? Will they be caught? Will Darcy be arrested or will she escape once again?
As in the prior books, there are twists, turns, deceits, and, yes, more murder. It also continues the question, how far would you go to save your sibling, your child, your self? And, yes, one must suspend some belief as those on the run encounter various situations.
Want to make any bets as to whether I will read the next book/series from Hurst?
A great conclusion to the Nurse series by Daniel Hurst. This is book #3 in this series and it does help follow along better if you read the first 2 to get acquainted with the characters ahead of time. Another great thriller by the king of revenge!
So book 3 in ‘The Nurse’s Books’ series and I would say its pretty vital to read the 2 before as this is a continuation of the previous books
We are back with Pippa and Darcy and the book is pretty much an alternate chapter each as they continue trying to evade authorities and to make sense of what has gone before…
I think the book was different with longer chapters and less of the cliffhanger ending to each chapter but that was because the story is now defined re the characters etc, it was still as action packed as always and had the unmissable print of the author stamped all over it
Even in the midst of having to try and stay afloat and not be caught random and unnerving things happened just to ratchet ( nurse? ) things up even more
A good as always read, it’s fairly impossible to not enjoy a DH book and this again ticks all the boxes and ends with the trademark big ending
A compulsive fast paced psychological thriller! Honestly couldn’t put it down! From the very first page, you’re addicted, a page turner! Author Daniel Hurst does it again! After reading “The Perfect Nurse” I knew I couldn’t wait to read more! This is his third in this series with Darcy and Pippa but you don’t necessarily need to read one before the other but makes the story all the more fitting.
A car accident leaving Darcy with memory loss and questionable decisions in her nursing career take this novel over the top in suspense. She never meant to hurt anyone but sometimes extreme situations lead you to make horrible choices, murder being one of them. A family who all work in the medical field stand beside Darcy in more ways than one and risk their own lives. On the run again, a nurse, her family dodging the media and the police trying to avoid the inevitable! Her sister, Pippa, also a nurse has always put her sister first and those decisions have come with consequences now that she’s married and has a child. How far will a family go to protect their loved one?
If you love a psychological thriller, I highly recommend this unputdownable novel! Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
It's no secret that I'm a huge Daniel Hurst fan, devouring every book of his in record time. And it's not often a favourite author disappoints but I'm sorry to say that this book was just a step too far in the killer nurse saga. I enjoyed the first book, and the second one was an interesting follow-up. But this one was just a little too far fetched and drawn out that I spent most of it shaking my head.
The action kicks off as Darcy boards a bus in Florida, fleeing after killing Parker at the end of the previous book after he had kept her and his ex-girlfriend locked prisoner in the basement of his home. Armed with the the notebook her sister Pippa had written for her to jog her memory at every turn and still wearing the nurse's uniform she used to gain access to the hospital Parker was in, Darcy flees Florida to return home to her family, not knowing that they have fled after things heated up for them in Chicago.
Having suffered retrograde amnesia after a car accident a couple of years ago, Darcy has no idea who to turn to who to trust or where to find her family.
Meanwhile, Pippa and co have headed to Montana to an abandoned holiday camp only to find the cabins are not completely abandoned after all. From the first moment they arrived, Pippa has found herself with the sense of being watched. Are they safe where they are? Or is someone out there watching their every move, ready to hand them over to the police and claim the $50,000 reward leading to their arrest? How will things end for the sisters and their family?
Despite it being far fetched and not one of his best, this (hopefully) final installment into the killer nurse saga was still fast paced with snappy chapters that I was still able to devour it in quickly. And unfortunately I was relieved to reach the end. I really do hope this is the last in the series as I feel it really has more than run its course.
Hurst is renowned for his fast paced snappy writing style with far fetched storylines that can be over the top but are still an entertaining read nonetheless. He continues to throw twists at his readers with his addictive writing style, though I didn't really see many twists in this one. OK maybe one. But it was still kind of expected in this case.
Again, not one of his best but that won't stop me reading more of his books. I have loads of them on my kindle waiting for me to read them but I just have so many books on my TBR list! Hahaha... Still, can't wait to see what he has in store for us next.
I would like to thank #DanielHurst, #Netgalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheNursesMistake in exchange for an honest review.
Usually when I read a series i find that the second and third books are not as good as the first book but for this series it's not true. I have been invested in this series and it doesn't disappoint.
As much as I should not like Darcy because of her misdeeds I actually like her. I enjoy this character.
Twists and Turns throughout and i was on a wild ride the whole time. A definite recommend. I also suggest you read The Perfect Nurse first.
I seek out Daniel’s books as soon as I can get them! I love his easy style! The Nurse’s Mistake is the third of an ongoing series that I feel will be continuing! I’ve loved all of these books as well as the Doctor’s series. In fact I’ve read all of his books! As we continue on the adventures of Darcy and Pippa (along with family), the action is non-stop! You root for everyone as there are all clearly good people caught up in unfortunate circumstances- well… murder that is! There’s an airiness as there is in all of the author’s books, and you can’t help but smile at their many escapades. Obviously there’s also tension, but overall, you are just clinging to hope that all will work out okay! Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
The final book in The Perfect Nurse trilogy is not Daniel Hurst’s best work. Maybe part of the blame rests with the robotic narration of the audiobook. The lion’s share of the blame lies with the central plot being the overused condition of amnesia suffered by Darcy, the central character, resulting from a car accident. Her family are medical professionals: retired father is a doctor, retired mother was a nurse and sister Pippa is a nurse who at one time worked at the same hospital as Darcy. For such smart people they are pitifully harebrained, none more than Pippa, who goes to laughable lengths to protect her sister. A series of blunders and unintended murders causes the family including Pippa’s reluctant husband and her 4 year old son to flee their homes in suburban Chicago for a secluded cabin in the woods. Darcy flees her Florida due to an accidental murder there and takes a bus ride to her parents’ Chicago home in search of her family. Gradually snatches of her memory come back and the story takes off in some totally implausible directions too preposterous to detail. Running through the storyline is an homage to the profession of nursing. Conclusion: this trilogy is disappointing.

Thank you Bookouture for a copy on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The third book in the Perfect Nurse series by popular author Daniel Hurst is The Nurse’s Mistake. Nurse Darcy is back….. Darcy and her sister Pippa are on the run after the fateful events previously. Trying to avoid authorities while in hiding and seeking the truth. But things always happen when the nurses are involved…. A reasonably good read. I do suggest reading the first two books before reading this, as it does follow on. While I enjoyed it, it’s probably the weakest one out of the three. Short on suspense and twists, there’s no real surprises here. It seems as though it’s wrapped up with a nice little sneaky ending….. Let’s see where Daniel goes next…
‘The Nurses Mistake’ is the third book in the captivating series of ‘The Perfect Nurse’ which follows the lives of two intriguing nurses and sisters, D’arcy and Pippa. Daniel Hurst has brilliantly crafted a narrative that seamlessly intertwines suspense, emotion, and the complexities of familial bonds. The story is told from the dual points of view of D’arcy and Pippa, which enriches the understanding of their motivations and fears and escalates the tension as the plot unfolds through the perspectives of both sisters. From the very first page, I was drawn into a fast-paced psychological thriller that kept me page turning throughout, while revealing the drama as they navigate the challenges presented in their lives. Themes of loyalty, trust, and the sacrifices made for family resonate throughout the narrative, adding emotional weight to the suspenseful events. I really enjoyed this book and the whole series and thank Daniel Hurst, NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy.
Tycker Hursts böcker är så svåra att betygsätta… är det en trolig story? Nej.. är det språkligt vackert? Definitivt inte.. är det fast paced och lättläst? Absolut! Kommer jag läsa vidare? Troligtvis!
2.5⭐️ it all became a little far fetched and I feel like Darcy’s memory started rapidly improving out of nowhere which didn’t quite seem coherent with her experience previously and it felt it improved really quickly more just to help support the story line move on, opposed to it actually making sense.
The Nurse’s Mistake By: Daniel Hurst Pub Date: November 5, 2024 Publisher: Bookouture
Another fast-paced thriller by Hurst. Darcy is on run with her family. Her family has no idea where she is. The Law has been looking for Darcy, because she has killed.
Darcy is a nurse and her job is to help people, so what are her real motives?
To be transparent some were to protect others and some were self-defense. Will she take the blame to protect her family? Her sister Pippa is with her parents.
The last straw was when Darcy fell in love with a married doctor. Thank you Bookouture for this gifted e-ARC. I can always count on a fun and fast-paced thriller by Hurst.
This is the 3rd in a series. The others are The Nurse’s Lie and The Perfect Nurse.
Daniel Hurst never fails to deliver a fabulous reading experience. This trilogy started out with a bang and the conclusion was the bomb. As I retired nurse I love books related to anything in the medical genre. He did his homework and put together a believable read. Thank you to the author and Bookature for an ARC of this book. Highly recommend!!!
I didn't enjoy this book at all. It wasn't a thriller - which it is touted as - because it lacks the twists and suspense a thriller needs. It reads more like chicklit really which is not a genre for me.
Issues that also ruined this story included:
⭕Killer family on the run just happens to come across serial killer on the run in the same 10 yards of forest? Sure that would happen... ⭕$50k bounty and hardly anyone Darcy comes across (and there's lots of people) tries to call the police on her? No way. ⭕What kind of mother chooses her sister over her 4yo son? I feel like this was just too unbelievable and the entire story seems to hinge on this fact. Btw, she goes on and on about how good a mother she is... But she's also a murderer. Also, EVERYONE knows she it. ⭕Excessive use of exclamation marks made Darcy seem like a hysterical Victorian woman and didn't help her case at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As does pretty much all of her actions!! If I was pressed to describe her, I would say idiotic or *clears throat* dumb as fuck. ⭕what the fuck kind of person thinks 'good, now my husband has been forced to kill someone he knows how I feel'. HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN IN THAT SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU AND YOUR BRAINDEAD FAMILY!! Also, that just proves you are as evil as you keep claiming not to be.
Rounded up from 2.5 This book picks up exactly where the previous book left off, with Darcy and her sister, Pippa, their parents, her child and her husband running from the law, Darcy suffering from amnesia. And here lies my problem. I did read the previous book in the trilogy, but that was months ago, and since I tend to forget everything I read pretty much as soon as I'm done with it (sorry, authors, it has nothing to do with you), when I started reading this one, I spend most of it completely lost. I remember enjoying the first two books in the trilogy, so maybe if I read this one right after I finished the first 2, I'm sure I would've enjoyed it more. I don't know if that's why I had trouble getting into it, but also I felt like the pacing was off. I need my thrillers to be fast paced page turners to thouroughly enjoy them. This one dragged between some action scenes. I've said it before about Daniel Hurst's books, and I'll say it again: the length of the paragraphs in his thrillers is wrong for me. The paragraphs in a fast paced thriller need to be short for me to really feel the rush. But the story really gets you to thinking: how far will you go to protect your loved ones? I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Sisters Darcy and Pippa are back in this third explosive installment of THE PERFECT NURSE series. I can't stress enough that this is NOT a standalone! You should definitely read the first two books to get the plot events in order because there are a lot of moving parts.
The sisters are separated and on the run. Darcy is still struggling with memory issues, and Pippa is struggling to keep her marriage together. But then a shocking turn of events makes Pippa's former plea of "I did it to protect my family" suddenly hit home with her husband.
I know when I'n reading a Daniel Hurst book that I'm guaranteed to have a good time. The plot was wild, and you'll have to suspend A LOT of disbelief, but this was a thriller with heart. I really enjoyed the themes of loyalty and family that were interspersed throughout. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this early read. At the time this review was written, this title was expected to publish November 5, 2024.
"The Nurse's Mistake" by Daniel Hurst is a fast-paced 4-star read! Darcy and Pippa return in the third installment of The Perfect Nurse series, and the story picks up right where the second book left off. Darcy, the infamous killer nurse, is on the run, determined to uncover secrets from her past. Meanwhile, Pippa has fled with her family, hoping they can finally find safety.
As with the previous books, you can expect lies, deceit, and maybe even another murder—all in the name of protecting loved ones. Fans of the first two installments will find this one just as thrilling. If you're a fan of Daniel Hurst or enjoy quick-moving stories that aren’t too heavy, this book is for you! I can’t wait to see what Daniel Hurst has in store for readers next!"
Thanks to Bookouture, Daniel Hurst, and NetGalley for providing me with the opportunity to read this ARC and share my honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC! This was my first book by Daniel Hurst and I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed this book and the characters. I like it when a book has different point of views. I didn't know this book was a part of a series so I will need to go back and read the others. Darcy and her whole family are wanted for several murders, the whole family is in the medical field. Darcy is on the run and is also trying to remember past events by revisiting her previous college. She has some memory lost due to an accident. Her mother, father and sister are on the run and stumble into these abandoned cabins. When they arrive Pippa tells her parents they are not alone but no one believes her. The next day a man has been spotted and he is not who he says he is.
Thank you to @netgalley for the ARC of the 3rd installment to The Perfect Nurse series! First of all, I’d definitely recommend reading the first 2 books in this series before this one. It gives you a backstory and it’s easier to follow along with everything that happens if you read in order. It is a Dual POV by both sisters, Pippa and Darcy and pick up where the last book left off perfectly! This was such a fast paced, thrilling and just all around rollercoaster fun read! The twists and turns just kept me wanting to read! I got through this book so fast and, once again, Daniel Hurst does NOT disappoint!
✨ 3rd book of the perfect nurse series ✨ multi povs
✨ I have loved the first two book, as it focus on the two sisters and how to find there way out. This book was a let down. Unfortunately ☹️ I think it’s good to end the series on the book 2.
This book only consist of Darcy going to places and just remember things here and there. Just popping out and stand for herself at the end. I mean,, all of those hiding and just all of a sudden bang!! Come out in a full of festivities for nurses and just be known.
Peppy on the other hand met a random guy in the forest who’s hiding aswell from a murder mystery. Random story again just to drag the story that doesn’t connect on the book.
Anyway, I love love Daniel hurst styling but I think it’s good to end the series in just 2 books.
✨Thankyou @bookouture for the opportunity to read this book for a honest review.

SUCH a good series and secretly hoping there will be a book #4! I loved the POVs from both Darcy and Pippa — really felt connected to both characters. Daniel Hurst’s books hook you from the very beginning and he has a very creative style of writing — perfect for fans of Freida McFadden!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
