On Account of Wolves is an outstanding debut novel by Steven Schultze. It has everything you could want in a gripping thriller: a compelling cast of characters, a tightly woven plot packed with plenty of twists, and relentless pacing that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The witty banter between the main characters adds a refreshing and enjoyable layer to the story.

The narrative centers on Detective Jack Rhodes, a skilled but overburdened investigator in Riverside, California. After a direct personal request from the mayor, he's pulled into a particularly brutal murder case that the understaffed sheriff's department would otherwise struggle to handle. What begins as a gruesome crime scene quickly spirals into a much larger conspiracy involving human trafficking, violent cartels, brazen daylight kidnappings, and a race against the clock: one surviving victim is still out there, and time is rapidly running out.

Just finished “On Account of Wolves” and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Solid characters, an engaging story, action, comedy, and an intriguing mystery to be solved!

Found myself enjoying each of the characters individually but even more the group dynamics Steven so carefully crafted. Each of the characters demonstrate clear individual characteristics but with a common humanity that unites them all.

The mystery develops well and Steven’s characters pull a variety of threads, each providing a small piece of the puzzle, until the very end when the complete picture is known.

Well worth the read and accessible by those with military or law enforcement backgrounds and those without. Definitely recommend!

This is a fantastic book from a first time author! I loved how the characters are built up and how their personalities are portrayed. I think the little history lessons throughout the book are a cool addition to the book. I can’t wait to read the next book from this author! I will be finding ways to use Al Copone’d in my daily conversations!

This is an excellent debut novel! The author expertly weaves together an intriguing murder mystery that feels like a fun mix of true crime procedural and buddy-cop movie. The characters are dynamic and the premise feels refreshingly original in an age where everything entertainment-wise has become a remake, sequel, or spin-off. I truly enjoyed this novel and look forward to the next one!

Great read

Incredible storyline by this newcomer author. The character development left me wanting more, in a good way. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I truly hope he comes out with another.
