First it was water.
Then blood.
And finally smoke.

Gwen Conway never knew there were so many ways to die. Honestly, it was something she would have been happy not knowing.

Maybe, they really are just dreams. Nightmares. But they won’t stop. And dreaming of her death is getting old. Then there’s the sleepwalking. She’d like to pass on that too.

Gwen’s pretty sure the dreams have something to do with her new job. Which of course, is definitely not just a ‘job.’

Don’t get her wrong, working for the Archiver of the Time Streams has its perks. Having the power to travel to any past or future time is fantastic. Plus, there’s Rafe, the ex-gladiator from the future. She’d like to keep him around too. Not that she would tell him that. It’d go straight to his head.

But she’s less than pleased to find herself in the middle of a time travelers’ war. Especially against a crazed half-god who has the power to obliterate the existence of any time or place. And the Guardians, her so called allies? All the help they offer is strict rules and smug superiority. Plus, they seem convinced she’s already lost, that she’s already died.

Gwen is starting to wonder whether she should have read her employment contract more carefully.

Honestly, this book was a bit of a mixed bag for me.—which is something I don’t often say in 4-star reviews. The premise of the plot, with the archives and the time travelers and an ancient evil locked away in a black mirror, was fascinating and drew my attention to the story. I liked the characters (except the awful janitor who was your typical evil sidekick), and the book contained a lot of beautiful imagery and fantastical settings that kept me engrossed.

However, I wish the book had taken itself a little more seriously. The humor and jovial attitude of the book made it seem a little like a cheesy SyFy channel show. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I wanted more tension, more drama, and instead I got a playful, fast-paced romance between two very different characters thrown together by the archives. Was it bad? No… but it wasn’t my thing.

Overall, I thought the book was interesting. The characters, plot, and settings were great—I just wasn’t fond of the execution as a whole. Still, it was an entertaining read, and if you’re looking for a fast-paced, light-hearted romance with a supernatural feel, this book may be the one you’re looking for.

What a marvelous debut novel! If you liked that TNT movie THE LIBRARIAN with Noah Wylie, you'll love MIRRORED TIME as it has a similar start. Instead of The Library, it's The Archives, and instead of Noah Wylie, you have this lovely, caring, slightly lost young woman named Gwen who is about to discover that all she thought about her world is not necessarily true and not necessarily set in stone...

I always try to keep my reviews spoiler free and it's very hard not to gush about something that took you by surprise or a character whom you utterly adore or a love interest that you swear is your new book boyfriend, etc. From Cappuccino the Cat to Alistair to Gwen, the characters are incredibly faceted and show wonderful depth, and Faulkner did a wonderful job building the world.

There's a nice twist that you won't see coming and you'll be happy to spend your hours in the pages of Mirrored Time!

Note: I was given this book for free in trade for an honest review.

I rather enjoyed this. Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey, THE LIBRARIANS!

There were times you could tell it was a first novel, and all the pains that go with that. Most notably being the middle repeating quite often of: Nightmare, Gwen waking up, going to the Archives, a single interaction and then inevitably her immediately going home because of that interaction. So even though there wasn't necessarily lag, it also seemed a bit like a rinse/repeat just to move the plot forward to a certain time. Oh and with her always going home....Half the time, I forgot she actually had a 'job'.

Gwen wasn't unlikable. Not too stupid to live, most of her 'stupid' moments easily explained away by just the overwhelming situation she had just been chucked into.

Rafe also wasn't unlikable. Though due to the nature of it all, you didn't get to see much of his personality, since he was supposed to be dark and mysterious and all that.

Alistair, the same.

The plot was, well nothing really took me by surprise, but that doesn't mean it wasn't quite enjoyable seeing how it was all playing out.

I do look forward to the next one.

You will definitely enjoy this if you enjoyed the tv movies (and now a tv show) The Librarians with Noah Wylie.

It is truly a shame that this brilliant, dark fantasy is not a best-seller winning awards and with over a million reviews. It's that good. I don't want to spoil this book for you, except to say, that the beginning is a bit slow. For twenty or more pages I kept thinking, why am I reading this? And then bit by bit the plot built itself, and it started racing at two hundred miles per hour. This is a novel about time travels and alternate realities, gods, ancient worlds, and people who have immense power. This is a fight between good and evil, but also about a young woman to stand up for herself after an abusive childhood and a lot of loss to become a heroine in every sense of the word. There is romance, but it is tied up into the plot and far from cliche or saccharine sweet. I implore you to give this book a chance; it is worth every penny.

What a wonderful first novel by J.D. Faulkner! I always find it fun to read an author's first book and this one didn't disappoint. I really loved the concept and the world she created. You will too! I don’t want to spoil anything so I’m going to play it safe in my review.

Mirrored Time is about a young woman, Gwen Conway, who just needed to find a job. We’ll she found one and turns out she found more than she was looking for. Gwen can be my friend. I liked her. She was a smart character who had her faults and insecurities (but wasn’t annoying). I find lately all the main characters are the same Mary Jane who everyone just loves and blah blah blah, love triangles here, blah blah, etc. Well I found Gwen to be a breath of fresh air. She is funny, witty, smart, and easily able to fess up to making a mistake. She has had a rough life growing up but it doesn’t make her roam around in self-pity. Even after some awful events in the story she doesn’t go all “Bella Swan” (yikes, no one wants to read that). I really liked her relationship with Rafe (yum) and after the book was over I’m really excited to see their relationship grow in depth.

After landing her new job Gwen starts to have nightmares and each one ends with her death. To top that off she has been sleepwalking again. Maybe it has to deal with the fact that she learned she has the awesome power to jump time and space? I think that this concept is just fantastic! Truly, I enjoyed the fact that even with powers so great as time travel and working with different dimensions, the characters still struggle with the real world limitations of the past being set in stone . Ms. Faulkner did a great job with this concept. It is very obvious that she spent a great deal of time dedicated to make the rules of time travel clear. It makes me very excited for what the next book will bring.

Mirrored Time does a good job of setting up the world that we are playing in and the history for the time travelers. We also get a good start of all the main characters and I can’t wait to see them grown in depth. There were some really good twists and turns in the book. I had my guesses with some at the beginning. I’ll admit, I thought I had called all of them from the start, but I was wrong. Which makes me so happy to say!! I love a good twist I didn’t see coming!

I think Ms. Faulkner has done something great with this first novel and she can only grow from here. I cannot wait till the next book! I’m giving the book a 4.5.

Time Travel with a few twists! Imagine being caught in the middle of a time travel war, being able to jump from one era to the next, one dimension to the next, BUT, history is just that, history, it’s carved in granite and the future, is that, too? Page One: Gwen needs a job, desperately, and she finds one with a man who seems to know her, somehow. Her job responsibilities, filing, phones and, oh yes, time travel. It would seem Gwen has the rare ability to travel through time. Headaches, nightmares and sleep walking seem to be haunting her now. Is it because of her new job? Her new ability? Or is there something evil out there threatening her very existence. Then we have the hot, brash time traveler, Rafe, who has some “timeless” chemistry going on with Gwen, but their relationship is sometimes volatile, mostly full of witty dialogue and definitely full of danger. Who is team good guy and who is team bad guy? Can Gwen be sure she is playing for the right team?

Mirrored Time by J.D. Faulkner has all of the elements of a riveting book, complete with wild twists, wonderful characters, great dialogue and a world that is solidly built! Ms. Faulkner stamps her own signature with confidence on this intriguing read, laying the ground rules, setting the scenes up and placing her characters in the exact place and time they need to be. She knows how to work in each detail flawlessly and is able to bring it all home with style!

While fantasy novels involving vampires and werewolves are filling up the bookshelves left and right, J.D. Faulkner’s first fantasy novel “Mirrored Time” is definitely a refreshing change. The novel plays upon the idea of time and how it might not always appear to follow a linear fashion, but loops in on itself in a circular motion. I might still be reeling from the open-ended conclusion of the first book in the Time Archivist Novels, but I thought the novel was absolutely stunning. Faulkner managed to create relatable and witty characters that one could connect with and a storyline filled with suspense and magic that makes one hope that it is not that far from being impossible.

Right from the start the novel pulled me right in, making me stay up late devouring page after page, and leaving me crestfallen once I realized I had completed the novel. The detailed descriptions of the imagery and emotions made me feel like I was standing in the rooms with the characters and feeling what they were feeling. When the characters were distraught and anxious, I was biting my nails with worry; when they were triumphant, I was doing a victory dance of my own – inside my own head, of course. And while the action of the novel clips along at a steady pace, the book is not difficult to keep up with.

It is evident that Faulkner is extremely talented, with a vivid imagination and an enviable brilliance, one that makes me really jealous of her. As someone who has always hoped for a bit of magic in my own life, the idea of reality colliding with fantasy is both intriguing and scary, which is probably why I felt like I could relate to the main character, Gwen Conway, so well.

All in all, for Faulkner’s first novel, I thought it was excellent, and I CANNOT wait for the sequel! If you are looking for a pleasant escape from your own reality and wanting time to slip away from you, then “Mirrored Time” is positively a book worth reading.

Cheers!

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

Ideally, I'd give this book 4.5 stars. I found myself really enjoying this and I was reading eagerly to find out what was going to happen next.

I liked Gwendolyn as a character, though I wasn't completely sure I would at first. The plot of this book was a really intriguing one and I especially liked the relationships she formed with the other two main characters... in particular with Rafe, but I did like Alistair as well.

I did get quite confused about things at first, but by the end, I had a much better understanding of the plot and what was going on. It was quite an interesting take on the time travel plot and I really liked learning about the whole theory and the different kinds of parallel worlds... even if I was still a bit confused by one certain thing in particular by the end.

I really empathised with Gwen and Rafe in particular during this book. They were both really easy to like... and I particularly liked learning about both of their pasts, even though a lot of it was sad. I also really enjoyed Rafe's banter with Alistair.

The dreams Gwen was experiencing were really disturbing, but I found myself really intrigued by the relationship the boy had with her. That's something I'd really like to learn more about.

I REALLY liked the hints of the romance forming between Gwen and Rafe. It was nice to read a book where the two characters didn't fall in love at first sight. There was one extremely scary moment with Gwen that really made me concerned about her.

I would definitely like to read the next book/s. This was a really good introduction to the world and the characters. Some of the so-called 'good' characters were ones that I really didn't like... but I definitely liked the main ones and I was also intrigued by Max and his past. I think that, if this turns into a series, it would probably become one of my favourites. As it stands, I'd like to see more of both the world and the characters.

I was given the chance to read Mirrored Time by JD Faulkner, by inkspand, in exchange for an honest review.
Gwen has had a rough life. She was born into a family that didn't want her. Her parents told her on Christmas Eve that they were getting a divorce then passed her back and forth because they had to not because they wanted to spend time with her. Finally she is given to her aunt, Maggie, the aunt that loves her. Finding someone who loves her helps helps with her sense of self, until Maggie gets cancer, beats it and it comes back. With her need to be there for Maggie Gwen decides not to go to law school and applies for a job in the archives of the court house. She gets the job.
Alistair Fletcher is her boss. There's something different about him but Gwen can't quite place what it is. He tells her straight from the beginning there is not a lot to do, but she may learn a lot. He wasn't kidding. He has told her not to go into the archives until he takes her. One day that is broken. One day she goes through the door. One day everything changes. In the middle of the room there is a soaking wet shirtless man. In a room with no pool, no water, no way for him to be wet- he is standing there soaking wet and dripping water on the floor. He walks in to the hall and disappears. Her boss, Alistair isn't surprised but Gwen is left confused and curious.
Then there are the mirrors. The mirror Gwen falls in to following the wet man, Rafe. The mirrors she find out allow time travel. Time travel? Does she really believe this is happening? With a history of nightmares, maybe this is another dream.
Can Gwen really trust what she is seeing? Can she trust Alistair or Rafe? I hope there is a sequel. I was so involved in the story I awoke with my Kindle beside me. The book DEFINITELY did not put me to sleep, I just couldn't put it down to go to bed! This is a definite reread, especially if there is a sequel, I am sure I missed clues and and quotes that will enhance the book even more! This is six star read!

>Review - Mirrored Time

>I received this book from the author and from Paranormal Romance and Authors that Rock. I am an independent reviewer. This is the first book in the Time Archivist Series and nothing is concluded.

>Gwen is a young law student wanna be. She applies for and gets a job in a courthouse, thinking it will look good on a resume later. She works in the basement archives with an older, eccentric boss, Alistair. The job is quite dull until she meets a young man, Rafe. As she watches Rafe, she begins to notice odd things in and around the archives.

>This story is Gwen's journey into what was previously unknown to her. Her choices will affect the future in significant ways, so there are dark forces at work trying to stop her. The relationship between Alistair and Rafe is a bit of comic relief. They are constantly picking at one another. The romance between Rafe and Gwen blossoms slowly, but as Rafe is a calm, supportive presence in Gwen's life, as hard times fall, the reader is rooting for their romance.

>I liked the story. The descriptions of all the strange sights were very well written. I wish the plot advanced a bit more than it did, though. I felt there was a lot of set up and not a lot came from it all. I am looking forward to the next book to see what happens.

> This book is for a young adult/adult audience.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This review is incredibly difficult having just this moment finished the book and suffering from intense book love. This book ended WAY too soon. It was so good that I was constantly checking the pages, wishing I could slow the inevitable. It is no secret that I LOVE love love Time Travel books but because of my obsession I tend to be more strick with them. Having said that I must say that this book was incredible! The actual traveling of the Time Streams was not explained in depth but the explanations that were given felt plausible and not like copout fantasy nonsense. The world building was superb and the character development excelled so much that I fell hopelessly in love with a few of the characters. The surprise reveal at the end wasn't much of a surprise at all but I loved watching it unfurl in book time.
I anxiously await the release of the next book and would gladly give my honest opinion again in exchange for a pre-released copy... in a heartbeat :::hint hint:::
All in all I cannot recommend this book enough to anyone who loves a good romp through Time and even to those not readily seduced by Time Travel books at all. This has been by far my favorite first-reads book and one I look forward to rereading.

I received a copy of this in exchange for a review. My opinions have not been influenced.

This was kind of a "sagging middle" book for me. I really liked the beginning, and the end wasn't bad either. The middle was too repetitive though. Waaaaay too many instances of Gwen having a nightmare, waking up distraught, then going home with Alistair befuddled. Like girl, you gon' get fired. Get it together.

Also, the part with her and Seymour felt quite contrived. And I'd be scared to see a word count of how many times the words "liar" and "thief" are in this book. Too many, I'm certain.

BUT, I did enjoy the book. I like the world (or worlds in this case). It's interesting to think about, and the science of it kind of goes along with how I very the universe(s) as well. Gwen got on my nerves, but I liked Rafe and the cat. Yes, I just said cat, whatever. I don't think the next book will be at the top of my priority list, but I'll probably give it a whirl at some point when it comes out. The dynamic between Mr. Evil and Gwen should get a lot more interesting .

JD Faulkner is going places! Her debut novel is a fantastic first foray into a world where anything is possible and time is fluid. Gwen is the kind of character I'd like to have as a best friend: she's snappy, funny, self-depracating and full of sass. In fact, at the end of this book, I kinda felt like she was my best friend! The saucy Rafe is full of goose-bumpy awesomeness, and the story itself is a roller-coaster of fast paced, heart-pumping action, with bits of sweetness and saltiness thrown in. And there is quite the surprise twist, too! No spoilers! I'll just say I didn't see it coming, and I almost ALWAYS do, so Ms. Faulkner got me there! Well played!
Seriously, I first read Ms. Faulkner's excerpt in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, where it is currently a quarter finalist Mirrored Time - 2014 ABNA EntryAfter reading the excerpt, I had to wait anxiously for it to be published so I could gobble up the whole thing. What a great read, and thank you Ms. Faulkner for publishing it on my birthday. What a great present!

This was either free or $.99 on Amazon and it said it was about a Time Archivist and I was completely sold (I'm an archivist and you see a lot of librarians in literature but not too many archivists).

I have mixed feelings about the execution. It was enjoyable plot and character-wise, but the writing and structure is not the best. I was taken out of it repeatedly by clumsy or confusing transitions. Also, and this would probably only annoy an archivist, it's the "Time Archivist" series (which is correct) but the character is repeatedly referred to as the "Archiver." THIS IS INCORRECT. "Archiver" is not a thing and Faulkner uses "Archivist" and "Archiver" like they are interchangeable and one is not a thing at all. (getting off soapbox now)

Back to the plot (which again, I liked) really picked up toward the end. It starts a little slow but it does pick up quite a bit once we get past the "You're a wizard Harry" moment (side note: no one is a wizard in this book, they're time travelers, I don't want to falsely advertise).

Currently undecided on continuing the series.

WOW!!!!
OK, I need book two like yesterday!
Gwen is our lead character and she sets out to find a job. Nothing strange here right? Well... how about you then learn that she can jump through time?? Not so normal now are we??
The characters and word weaving in this book are perfection.
Mirrored Time does throw a lot of "science talk" out there but it doesn't loose you, I was able to completely keep up and devour it page by page until the end where I can only complain that I cant read more. Every character that you meet is more fantastical than the last, and just when you think you have it all planned out and that you know what's coming... BAM!! You were so wrong and it's even better!!
Just go and get your copy NOW and then come tell me what you think!!

The author was kind enough to gift me a digital copy of Mirrored Time. Per usual, this is my honest review.

This book is interesting right from the start. The pacing was great. Not too fast and no big lags in the story. The main characters are charismatic, but also very well rounded. It is always great to have realistic characters when the story deals with fantastic concepts. I know time travel stories can be tricky, convoluted or full of plot holes. I was actually expecting it, but was so pleased to find I was worried for no reason. I was impressed this was a debut.

I hope to learn more background on the "villains" to see them a little more dimentional. Though, it seems set up to get to more of that in the next book. Which I plan on reading immediately after it's release.

I would recommend this book to fans of Sci/Fantasy and light Romance.

Really not for me

I read the whole thing because I kept thinking I was missing something, that it would all make sense in the end. It really didn't. The whole book was an unenjoyable muddle. I think I skimmed at least half of it. I give it tow stars because the reveal at the end was clever, but everything else was pretty amateurish, overwritten, and cringeworthy. I couldn't bring myself to care about or believe in any of the characters, yet I kept reading, because I love time travel books, and I hoped something would change my mind. It didn't.

That I am in the very small minority to have this opinion, though, shows that there is indeed no one book for everyone and we all read books differently. In other words, don't let this nonspecific negative review sway you--you'll probably like this one.

Ms. Faulkner has written a very good book and pulled me in from the beginning. The characters grow in depth throughout the book, shows that they are not infallable, and well rounded. Ms Faulkner gives a hint of a beginning romance between the main characters. It's refreshing to read a book that the characters tat do not instantly fall in love. The setting is well developed and the reader feels like they can go to the area and find everywhere they are going. The twist of time travel through mirrors is a refreshing idea of time travel. The author's imagination is vivid and paints a beautiful picture of places and time!

I have really enjoyed reading this book, Mirrored Time. I couldn't put it down. I look forward to the next in the series by Ms Faulkner.

I found it a little difficult to get into this book to start with - it felt a bit jumpy and I wasn't entirely sure what I thought of Gwen, the lead character. But about halfway through it picked up, and found I breezed through the second half.

It can be a little confusing at times (though I guess when people are trying to explain time travel, that can happen!), some scenes didn't flow really well and I guessed partway through the book what would happen at the end. Which didn't spoil it at all, but was more reassuring that I was on the mark! I DID like Rafe, the lead male character, and it definitely kept me interested as the plot picked up.

Edge of your seat book with twists and surprises

I tried to read this all in one sitting because it was that good,,,but had to sleep one night in between. When it first began, I had no idea it would grab my interest immediately and it never let me go. This story was crafted tightly and stayed in my head long after I played it on my pillow. I love books that move you through the story at mach speed and I can hardly wait for book two. Amazing writing.

Pretty good.

While a bit wordy for my taste it seemed a little thin on the story side. The wordiness didn't lead to the amount of content you'd expect. Some of the extra characters seemed like easy stereotypes without the fleshed out background.

The story line was pretty original to me. I might pick up the next book out of curiosity.

Excellent fantasy adventure story. Has an ending that really surprised me as the story had me guessing about possible endings the entire way. I guessed wrongly! The characters of Gwen and Rafe are quite interesting. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series as soon as it becomes available.

I loved the premise of the book. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the book itself. It did not capture me and I started and finished four other books while I slogged my way through this one chapter every few days. Perhaps, I'm just not the target audience as I read over many glowing reviews. For me, it was a miss.

Strong storyline with the elements of Time very well thought through. I can't recall the same approach in another book I've read and I felt I was reading something original from the start. I thought the characters were imaginative and there was a nice balance between action and intrigue.
