Van der Plas has written many books about cycling over the years.

This one is something not readily available since it is out of print, but The Open Library has a copy you can borrow.

The most entertaining aspect of this book is the discussion of doping - keeping in mind that this preceded the EPO era, Van der Plas suggests that the main problem with doping arguably is that it isn't very effective in improving results for the individual who is doping since amphetamines in particular don't improve one's thinking.
