Romans: Dead to Sin & Alive to Christ by Tara Leigh Cobble came into my life at exactly the right time. I started this study while finishing up my second 12-step program, and the parallels between spiritual transformation and recovery were incredibly meaningful. Seeing God’s Word line up with what I’ve been learning about surrender, freedom, and new life in Christ made this study feel personal and powerful in a way I didn’t expect.
This is a deep and intentional 10-week journey through the book of Romans, and Tara does such a beautiful job helping readers slow down and really absorb Paul’s message. The structure of the study — daily readings, teaching sections, reflection questions, and Scripture memory — makes it easy to stay consistent while still going deep. Every lesson is centered around who God is and what it means to live a life that’s truly transformed by His grace.
I especially appreciated how Tara explains some of the tougher theological parts of Romans in a way that’s clear and relatable. She doesn’t water anything down, but she also writes with warmth and encouragement. You can tell her heart is for people to know God, not just know about Him. Each week built on the last, helping me understand not just the doctrine of salvation and grace, but also how to live it out day by day — dying to sin and walking in the freedom Christ gives.
The reflection questions really challenged me to think about areas in my life where I still try to take control instead of trusting God. The Scripture memory and journaling sections helped solidify those lessons in my heart. It’s the kind of study that sticks with you and changes how you see yourself and your walk with Jesus.
Overall, this was an incredible study — rich in Scripture, theologically sound, and full of hope. It reminded me that freedom isn’t just a concept; it’s a daily surrender to the One who already set me free. If you’re looking for a study that will stretch your faith, strengthen your understanding of the gospel, and draw you closer to God, I can’t recommend this one enough.
