According to legend, a ghostly car haunts the old, rarely traveled road twisting through the woods outside town. Those who wish to see it must follow three drive at night, turn off all the lights inside and outside the car, and silence the car's radio or sound system.
Driving in darkness and silence, navigating only by the light of the moon and the stars, generations of teenagers and other reckless thrill seekers have dared each other into trying to see the legendary car. Some have crashed and died, only adding to the road's stories of danger and death.
New problems bring paranormal investigators Ellie Jordan and Stacey Tolbert racing to the scene, where they face a crash course in how to stop a lethal, yet somehow beloved, supernatural legend before it drags more innocent lives across the finish line.
J.L. Bryan studied English literature at the University of Georgia and at Oxford, with a focus on English Renaissance and Romantic literature. He also studied screenwriting at UCLA. He lives in the metro Atlanta sprawl with his wife and son. He is the author of the Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper books and some other assorted novels like Inferno Park, The Unseen, Jenny Pox, and basically a lot of supernatural stories, some of it dark, some of it very dark, some of it less dark than that.
If you know my reading at all, you know I adore this series. It truly is one that just keeps getting better and better as it goes. Each new installment finds new ways to give me chills and thrills, and I absolutely love that about it!
Not only are the ghosts more deadly, more terrifying, but also more cunning, more surprising in what they are capable and willing to do, and Ellie and Stacey are there every step of the way to stop them. I loved the setting of this. To the twisty creepy roads, to the dark, scary mountain terrains, to the old-timey feel of the town, the storyline, and the very ghosts themselves, this was just right up my alley and pinged everything I love in a really good, well told ghost story.
A series which should be a lot more popular than it is.
These books should be bestsellers, an original take on ghosts and hauntings is difficult to achieve but J.L. Bryan managed to pull it off. Ellie Jordan is a private investigator but with a twist ...... ..... She investigates paranormal events, mainly hauntings. Now people do not tend to.contact Ellie until they are desperate, which usually means the haunting has turned violent .................... After all in the normal course of events you would believe Ellie to be a fake playing on people's superstitions, until it is happening to you............ Ellie is well acquainted with ghosts, one burned down her home when she was a child killing all her family and she can still feel him out there waiting for her. Her employer and mentor is an ex police detective who came to believe in ghosts after seeing so much he could not explain while on the job. Ellie also has an assistant .......who handles the electronics......Stacey who is the yin to Ellie's yang who manages to keep a healthy sense of humor despite the horrors and dangers they both face. Each haunting is different though most of their cases involve children the most vulnerable victims of haauntings. In this book a teenage girl (Lacey) survives a car crash which kills two.if her friends, they were taking a dare at the time driving down Robbers Road a haunted road on which three bank robbers where gunned down by police while evading arrest.................trouble is you don't get to walk away from a crash on that road and the dead keep coming for Lacey wanting her to join them..........................
I must say that I genuinely enjoy what Ellie and Stacey have to go through as they work on figuring out the whos and whys of the hauntings they're investigating. I mean, there's usually food involved (good food, based on Stacey's unwavering dedication to finding decent eateries in the places they're in) and a whole lot of research (which Ellie doesn't mind engaging in, but Stacey is not a huge fan of). Plus PLUS there is cool, creepy history they get to unearth.
Honestly, these investigations might be a little dangerous (most of the time), but food, library time, and piecing together fact from legend gets a thumbs up from me. (The danger part is a little problematic, tbh, but you take the good with the bad!)
So. This time around, Ellie and Stacey are investigating a haunting on a dangerous road. We're talking a literally dangerous road. One with no guardrails and hairpin turns. And once you throw in the ghostly car that likes to menace folks things get really weird. It also doesn't like survivors. Which means Ellie and Stacey have their work cut out for them as they race (kinda literally) to figure out what's what before another survivor is claimed.
Like I said, I genuinely enjoy all Ellie's adventures from the initial setup (and Ellie's vague distaste of all things outdoorsy) to the research to the piecing together of how to stop whatever it is they're dealing with. GOOD STUFF all around!
It had been so long since I read an Ellie Jordan book. I was really missing her so this book came out at just the right time! And we got another good case! This book had everything: haunted roads, robbers, moonshine runners, and, of course, dumb dares. Lol.
I know I say this every single time I review a book in this series, but I always find the cases super interesting! And this book was no different! All the lore was really intriguing and I just really enjoyed learning about the legend surrounding this haunted road.
I love horror, but it is pretty rare for a book to scare me. But J.L. Bryan is an author who has been able to do that with multiple Ellie Jordan books. There was just this... situation that happened a couple times throughout this book that I found to be pretty horrifying, and actually really sad.
But like I said, I really enjoyed this. I missed Ellie and her sass and her fun banter with Stacey. I enjoyed the mystery and how unique the case was. They've investigated many houses and buildings, but a road? I'm pretty sure that's a first in this series. Lol. This book just made me very happy.
As usual, Bryan made me smile as I wrapped up this installment in the Ellie Jordan series. Ellie and the almost supernaturally peppy Stacie are lovable characters, and the author puts them into a plot that stirs in Bonnie and Clyde, haunted highways, backwoods moonshine runners, and even a bit of Steve King’s Christine to great effect, with some surprising plot twists and a few genuinely spooky moments. I’m probably not the ideal target for this series, but that hasn’t affected my enjoyment of the books in the slightest. And now I have to wait almost a year to see what appears to be a return to Stacey’s home and the ghost that got her involved in paranormal investigations in the first place.
My first thought when I saw the title of the newest book in one of my favorite series was, "Well, that doesn't sound very scary." Boy, was I wrong. Ellie and Stacey are constantly bombarded with ghost robbers, ghost victims, and ghost cars, and they were all very scary. The author did a great job painting pictures of all the ghosts and the mountain terrain. The story itself was very spooky and kept me reading long after I should have shut down for the night. The only thing missing was a thunderstorm pounding my windows as I read the story climax. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and wish I didn't have to wait almost a year for the next entry in the series. I truly hope this series continues for many, many years.
This series is one that always keeps me wanting more, although each new addition to the series has the same theme, ghost hunting, they are told in a new way, with new haunting, new areas, and new situations. I went into this eager to read, unfortunately not a quick as I would like due to life, but it was not how I expected it to go.
The story behind the hauntings kept me guessing wondering what was really going on, and trying to look for answers to solve it myself. I really like how the story progresses, and how determined Ellie and Stacey are to get the job done no matter what, and as they say in the pages, it’s like Final Destination, just in a book.
I think KL Bryan is an awesome author! I like how he ties the endings up in a nice bow…l i’m not into tragic endings! The Book was really cool because it was about a haunted road. You ever go down a road that you swear is haunted? Or have you ever heard of a road that is haunted specially on TV. Well, this would be right up there with those type of stories! It was very well written! And every time they mention the food, it made me extremely hungry!
I look forward to each Ellie Jordan ghost story. I pre-order them as soon as they are available and then wait in anticipation until they arrive. The creative stories demonstrate how many interesting and challenging ghosts that Ellie and Stacy have to face and how they are able to help the people being challenged by the various ghosts. I encourage you to read the full series.
I'm really liking the evolution of Ellie's ghost hunting stories. We've taken a departure from the typical format of the first books and events feel more unrestricted and natural. I'm glad the book skipped the usual discussion of whether to hire Ellie & Stacy and just jumped right into ghostly happenings. I love that help arrived at the end because the situation was looking pretty dire. Excited for the next book in the series to be released.
When a teen is haunted by the car wreck resulting in the death of her best friend, the ghost trappers are called. I love the varied settings and interesting twists in this series’ books. A fun read…until night arrives and your blood runs cold as someone drive up revving the engine.
What an amazing adventure. I’m no speed reader, but I read these books so fast. When they are over I’m so bummed. I loved the openness of this adventure. Outside. Wow! I love the sights, sounds, the researching, history, and especially trying to figure out how to eliminate the big bad. Never a dull moment. Thank you.
Another fantastic book! I love this series. The characters are strong and relatable and you never know which way the plot will twist. Do yourself a favor and start the series. Guarantee you will become hooked!
Y'all know I love this series, and this book is no different. True to form, it was exciting, mysterious, spooky, chilling, and fun. I devoured it in one sitting and am looking forward to the next installment.
The absolute worst thing about these supernatural cozy mysteries is that you devour them too fast and then you have to wait for the author to get the next one out. Fun mountain moonshiner Bonnie and Clyde like story.
This series gets better with each release, quite an accomplishment. I know part of it is that I can just see me and my friends doing the dare. This is one of my favorites in the series.
Another great story. Each book you learn more about the characters . I love this series and will brag about it whenever I get the chance to. Ready for the next book..
I absolutely love this series and pretty much read each one as soon as it comes out! This particular one was not the creepiest or the most gripping storyline, BUT I still enjoyed it and it was a fun Halloween read.
A book about moonshiners with Stacey and Ellie? Why not. I love the writing style and the plain down-to-earth believable stories in this series. The characters feel more like family now. Can't wait until the next book.
I’ve read the whole series and while a couple of the last books were more 4-star, this one is a 5. It was fast paced and I wanted to see how it turned out, but I hated to see it end. I’m looking forward to the next one.
I always love an installment of Ellie Jordan and Robbers Road didn't disappoint. I love being back in the minds of Stacey and Ellie and whatever supernatural trouble they find themselves caught up in.
Another entertaining read in a great series, with spooks, chills, phantom cars, deadly spirits, humour, great characters and descriptive writing. Can't wait for the next in the series!
