St. John's read this as a congregation prior to my employment and joining the family. I thought it would be good for me to read Rev. K's book seeing I would be working with him over the next few months during our REACH...May Our Love Increase Capital Stewardship Campaign.
The book is a relative quick read, but do not let the pages fly by without taking in what they are sharing. One of Rev. K's early thoughts is "the door to grace, however is a deep grasp of our desperate need for a Savior. We aren't basically good poeple who need just a few more pep talks to help us realize how good we are. We are helpless, hopeless sinners, far away from God and with no possible way of earning his love, forgiveness, and acceptance." Pastor Guy would phrase the above quote in 3 words, "we are broken." So praise God for the grace he has given each and everyone. The grace that allows us to have a relationship with our Lord. Grace that allows us reconciliation when we wrong our father on Earth, and our Father above.
A good book for every Christian to strengthen their faith, allow time for reflection, and praise God for the gift of grace.
An interesting Lutheran perspective looking at why people are living the lives they are, how we prioritize our time, and what is important to us in daily life. Similar to 40 Days of Purpose, but with a much clearer message of grace.
