Gory

Rate this book
He weighs over fourteen thousand pounds. His curved tusks are over seven feet in length and can skewer a full-grown buffalo. He has the strength to flatten a jeep underneath his mighty feet. The only thing matching his ferocity is his violent temper.

To all of Africa, he was considered a legend. In reality, he is a nightmare.

A nightmare named Old Gory.

Reeling from the death of her sister, Brooks yearns to learn the truth of her fate. Her parents believed it to be a freak accident. Brooks, however, believes something more sinister lurks in the darkness.

Brooks’ search for answers causes her to cross paths with a man named Mack and his daughter Dee. While out on safari, they encounter a unusually violent bull elephant. Unlike others of its species, it is not benevolent, but carries a malice straight out of hell. Fueled by an ancient hatred of humans, it kills without mercy.

In order to survive, Brooks and Mack must join forces and evade Old Gory’s rampage, or else find themselves impaled on his mighty tusks.

“the tusk’s fit in the eye socket was so tight only a single trickle of blood, a ruby tear, ran down the woman’s face”

After a traumatic childhood event on a safari, Brooks, now an adult, has been dealing with the mental aftermath of those events since they occurred. Now with of years of therapy under her belt and and countless pills, both prescribed and of the self-medicated variety, she’s more determined than ever to confront the past and come face to face with the nightmare that’s been haunting her for years — a legendary elephant known as Old Gory. Brooks’ story intersects with Mack and Dee’s story, who are on a safari of their own. What follows is a dark and strange tale of self-discovery, killer animals, and one very strong message — stay the fuck away from the Savannah and leave the animals alone. If not for their sake, then especially for yours. ⁣

This was a fun and dark tale that’s short on page count but big on impact. The characters were well-developed with histories and backstories that were interesting and tie in to the current events. I loved the gore and the horror bits, though this isn’t for the faint of heart. Definitely pick this one up if you’re a fan of short stories that pack a punch. ⁣

GORY, THE REAL KING OF THE SAVANAH

Gory, what can be said about him. Truly one magnificent, worldly being. He lived so long, no one even remembered his exact age, they just knew he was there, like forever. Rarely seen, but everyone knew of him, knew the tails of his life, his deeds, the death he left behind. But then again since he was rarely seen, he was now deemed, something that never existed anymore, he was only something that now showed up in dreams or more often in nightmares. He carried so many wounds, like from the damned. Until one night something happened, he was seen by many on this last night of this mortal world. And instead of all the rage, hate, and fire, he actually was given peace.

The author Mason Gallaway, took this story and could have done anything with it, but what he did create, was the end, fitting of a King. Thank you Mr. Gallaway, for a great story, that can be read by any one in any age group. it did make me root for Gory, from day one. And peace was all it ever wanted, it ever needed. Definitely a must read for everyone, then at the the end, ask yourself "what did this story teach me". I know mine, what about you?

A young girl follows her roots and childhood nightmares to Africa and discovers answers not only to her lifelong ancestral speculations, but deeper and more sinister phenomena.

Great gore factor! And elephants are just scary when you think about being up close to one. Story of a girl that lost family in an attack and returns to the scene as an adult. It’s about revenge. But against who?
