I was told that my rating of the first half of Capri’s story was a bit harsh and that in order to get the full picture I should read 1 & 1.5 together. Well after finishing 1.5, I not only stand firm with my initial rating but can confidently double down on this review.
I am simply not impressed by Capri’s story and even with the cliffhanger that seems completely random with no link to Capri’s story, I have decided to get off this ride and hear by word of mouth how the rest of the series plays out.
At this stage in the story, I expected more from Capri. I expected to know more about her time away from her family and Meer, I expected to have a healed Capri that is confident, sure of herself and her decisions and ready to begin her life as a bad ass lawyer that is ready to shine on these heaux’s. Instead we have Capri that is still struggling with past relationships, insecure, making foolish decisions and putting pressure on others to bend to her desires.
Why are we still reading about Aimee and Capella?! Why?! They literally add nothing to the story, not even as side characters. Aimee wants to be this intelligent hacker but is still giving “who left the lights on because no one’s home.” She doesn’t lead me to believe she can hack a voicemail if given the code let alone something that will truly benefit someone.
Why is Nahiem still around in the capacity that he is? If he’s still doing business with her brothers let it be that and nothing more but we really shouldn’t still be getting dialogue from that man at this stage. Jesse and Brandi’s storylines seem unnecessarily chaotic and are not adding any dimension to the plot. And speaking of plot what is it at this point because there is so much chatter happening on the sides that I still don’t know how things are unfolding for Capri. It’s definitely giving the sins of the father and brothers because her book seems more centered around everyone else in her life and not her at all.
The story feels extremely rushed and before we can fully digest one thing happening in the book boom we’re moving on to something else. Things that should be given focus have been glossed over while nonsense (the trip to Anguilla, the trip to Miami, the courthouse, Brandi’s pop up visit and so much more) has been given a loud voice. Capone and Cappadonna were successful because they weren’t overhyped and the author was allowed to give us their story on her timing / pace (at least until Cappadonna 2). Not sure what the obsession is with giving us Capri so quickly and I have completely lost interest in continuing this series.

Honestly I wish I could read Capri book as it own but I can’t sadly …. compare to her brothers book their storyline just flowed better. I’m still confused on why Naheim is still here that should have been resolved in this book. Towards the end we jumped scenes from one to the next and I feel like it’s not flowing well. So much is going on and all these characters that are connected 🤣 Capri still isn’t healed or confident in herself. Hopefully through this chaos that’s about to come growth will show. Also with the twist that was revealed last book we need more on the character.

Eh. It was alright. To be honest, the series should have ended after Capone 3. I’m tired of all the unnecessary plot twists and cliff hangers.
Capone and Capp need to mind their own marriages. Capri is a grown woman… she doesn’t need their validity or approval.

Ummmm it’s soooo much going on!! Meer and Suga’s love story is everything, and they are both opening up. Reading their scenes makes me feel all the warmth and fuzzies. Kincaid and Nahiem can both bffr and live Pri alone or learn the hard way! Core is so interesting, and I’m excited to see how this plays out in the next book! He and Capri are going to be a fierce duo.q

Okay now we cooking with GREASE, cus book one we just got in the kitchen lmao stove was NOT ON.
Miss Jahquel said LET ME TURN THE STOVE ON RIGHT QUICK, she ain’t dip the fish into the oil yet but it’s building. She giving it to us slow and steady which is good but bad at the same time. I’ll try not to be redundant but “Aimee and Capella got a dry story WHY IS THEY AROUND?(Kendrick voice) while I’m aware that all of this will eventually tie into the politician court house story line lmao I DONT WANT IT FROM THEM. Unless she’s not giving them a book but if she is yeah saveee it for LATER and by later I mean any other book but Capri’s. I will say I do like the growth we see in Aimee for sure, but I don’t like Capella complaining about her schooling vs mothering. Like YOU A FATHER, the same way she’s a mom and she’s trying to elevate. Like Rory got all yall to depend on while also having his mother so yeah be quiet. I feel like he see Alaia and Erin and kind be tryna hold Aimee to that standard and both them girls is PUT UP LIKE WINTER CLOTHES IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY, so he def needs to give her grace. Like wasn’t you in jail a lil bit ago so please don’t clock Aimee too hard about balancing mother hood and her education .
Now let’s get into the rest of this, Capri and Meer locked in and I hope they don’t face too many trials, but I feel like whenever authors include an abortion they include a miscarriage in some misguided ole wives tale type trope. I mean the life miss girl lives currently isn’t the safest or healthiest for a growing baby but I really hope the author doesn’t include that plot device. I will also say I do find it slightly irritating that Meer and everyone else wanna coddle Capri in regards to her poor 🐈⬛ management. Like sure was Kincaid a lil wrong for agreeing to take it there with her , ABSOLUTELY but we need to hold the grown woman who wanted her lick back accountable. She got her lick back and then became a sucker all on her own. I mean if Capri as fine as the author want us to believe WHY WOULD KINDCAID turn down 5 star cat from a 10 star B*tch??? Like enough I don’t wanna see Meer mention it again because the whole situation could’ve been avoid if Capri kept her 🐈⬛ in her pants lmao and at home studying. Like I love a revenge tale but miss girl loss the plot when she started romancing her side man lmao like baby you don’t got that dawg in you in matters of the heart and that’s okay but baby she made that mess on her own. Very much bit off more than she could chew. Meer def needs to establish iron clad boundaries with Brandi like real ones cus he do too much 💩 talking for me, does it provide comedic relief yes but he flying too close to the sun with a spiteful hoe. Like we get it you hate her but you already see how Capri getting her out of body so nip it all in the bud. Get them legal papers and custody agreements locked down and set up the lil co parent app cus I don’t wanna hear she stressing my girl out later.
Jean ole shady self need to report to the front of the book TODAYYYY, like you had a lot to say to ya daughter for a lady hiding a son. Ole I’m not hiding my son from the world I’m hiding the world from my son face a**. Like yeah miss stay married even if the man a raggedy cheating low down sneaky bastard, like oooohhh she need to get slapped one good time cus huh? I will applaud the author for including a very real occurrence in Black/ Carribean homes cus something about Mamas having all the smoke for they daughters but love kindness and compassion for they son. Like how you hard on the only legally straight college educated child you got. Yeah papa Delgato need to straighten her.
Still hate Nasty Naheim and I hope he get a permanent trip out of state lmao, Kincaid def giving a lil strange but I’m hoping he’s happy with that thirsty girl and this is last cameo. As far as Jesse ole sneaky self and her Opp daddy and TASHA I hope they know it’s a one way ticket on the hell fire express pending. Tickets are NON REFUNDABLE.
Back with another Blair note too: Idk if the author is doing it on purpose to lead us to believe certain things but she’s making Blair DIZZY AF. The whole posting while at locations is weird, she was a screaming scaredy cat in part one and it’s NOT MAKING SENSE. Blair the only friend Capri love and trust enough to have around her family and the author is showing us she’s dumb? That she has no situational awareness EVEN THO she was there when Alaia was kidnapped, done been through shootouts and is prepping to be Quasim love interest. Sorry this isn’t making even a tiny bit of sense and I need it to be corrected or addressed AND SOON.

She’s building layers and it feels like we’re just getting started. Big Pri and Meer might just be my faves. Seeing her growth, him opening up, them being there for each other. I’m eating it up. That last paragraph though…..I’m shocked. SHOCKED…..I have so many questions and I can’t wait to get the answers. Hopefully Capri 2 is coming soon…..patience is a virtue or whatever but if you wanna drop it tomorrow I won’t be mad.

Just when I was starting to kinda like the pregnancy trope I’m mad all over again. Why tf is Capri pregnant bruh??? Omg please be so fr rn … I’m so mad. Like could we have at least waited until book 3 or something in the epilogue. I was almost tempted to rate the book 2 stars for that alone but I enjoyed the hell out of the book. We wanted Big Mama Pri. Like I’m all for the eat pray love journey but come on now …
Other than that I’m loving a series so far. Pri & Meer starting out as best friends is the icing on the cake because I love a good friends to lovers arc. I don’t like how he was playing around at first though thinking Capri was just supposed to be his woman while he was still holding information from her but he knew the deepest part of her.
What’s really blowing me is the secret adopted brother! Like I’m so curious to see what’s up with that & their parents explanation. I knew Capo & Capp were gonna flip at the news so i’m glad Core reached out to Capri first. She was the most sensible option & I knew she’d be the one to hear him out.
Let’s keep reading tho it’s getting juicyyyyy …

It Keeps Getting Better…
As this story grows, so does my interest. There is nothing like smart, intelligent, black street men. Men that know what they want & protects home. Then to learn it’s a whole group of black families on this time, makes it that much better. Gotta keep goin! 💜💛💚💐

4.5⭐️I think Capri story may be my favorite. She is doing her thing and taking names. Brandi and Jesse are pissing me off. The worst type of females.

Meer cat 🥹🫶🏾🥰 I absolutely love that man! He apply pressure when it comes to his Suga! I love the way he is so patient with Capri and speaks so much life & love into her. They genuinely fit so well together, much better than she ever did with Nah or Kincaid!

This was a great read. Jahquel can write a book! I do wish we got more of Capri in lawyer action, actually in court rooms and fighting cases you know. But then again this is only 1.5 so who knows what Jahquel has in store!

Girl I know you fckin lying… I’m lowkey over it LMAO. I don’t care to read anyone’s POV except Meer and Capri. I feel like this whole family is acting brand new when it comes to her. How is it that Capp can bring home a woman that was pregnant and “married” to another man and nobody questions that decision? Capone got her ex-best friend pregnant and was hunching on her and nobody said shit about that!!! But we’re judging Capri for a divorce that wasn’t her fault and moving on? Jean is giving boy mom that’s mad weird to me. And then Aimee pisses me off every chapter with her slow ass. How are you smart and dumb at the same time? You can’t convince me this girl is some crazy top tier hacker. Then Naheim keeps popping back into the story like a parasite talking bout “they messing around??” boy move tf around and worry about your own girl. And the ending… I’m so annoyed like why is ole girl back?! Why does Capri have so many ops floating around and why does she feel like less of a family member than everyone else? I feel like Erin and Alaia are treated more like family and that’s insane!! It doesn’t feel like all these POVs are adding anything to the storyline and I barely know what the story is at this point. It’s like we’re adding characters just for the sake of having drama.
Girl I know you fckin lying… I’m lowkey over it LMAO. I don’t care to read anyone’s POV except Meer and Capri. I feel like this whole family is acting brand new when it comes to her. How is it that Capp can bring home a woman that was pregnant and “married” to another man and nobody questions that decision? Capone got her ex-best friend pregnant and was hunching on her and nobody said shit about that!!! But we’re judging Capri for a divorce that wasn’t her fault and moving on? Jean is giving boy mom that’s mad weird to me. And then Aimee pisses me off every chapter with her slow ass. How are you smart and dumb at the same time? You can’t convince me this girl is some crazy top tier hacker. Then Naheim keeps popping back into the story like a parasite talking bout “they messing around??” boy move tf around and worry about your own girl. And the ending… I’m so annoyed like why is ole girl back?! Why does Capri have so many ops floating around and why does she feel like less of a family member than everyone else? Capri 1.5 was everything. It picked up with the same energy I loved in book 1, but this time with even more fire. Capri’s growth was still on full display. She’s owning her emotions and space, but now she’s learning how to be loved back right. Her dynamic with Quameer deepens in such an intimate, real way. He doesn’t let her get away with her usual guarded ways. He checks her, challenges her, and makes sure she sees herself. That kind of emotional maturity? Chef’s kiss.
What made this book hit even harder was the balance of heat, humor, and heart. There were some spicy scenes (whew!) but also some absolute quote-worthy moments like:
“You can’t ruin something that is meant for you. I’m meant for you…”
and
“You don’t ever have to thank me, Sug. I’m here and I’m always gonna be here.”
Quameer showed up and showed out. This man really said, “Respect first, stroke second” and I loved that for us 😂
The oh-hell-nah moment? Easily the escalating tension with the outside players who think they can test Capri. Baby, this girl is not to be played with. From ride-or-die threats to pop-off warnings, she holds her own and then some. Menace energy activated IFYKYK 😤
As always, I adored the cameos from familiar Delgado favorites. It’s still family-first with Cappadonna, Capone, and the rest of the crew in the background. Brandi? Jessie? Still not feeling them and I don’t think I ever will.

Let me just start by saying this: Tasha being back??? Girl, go away. The way I wanted to reach into the pages and drag her myself… 😤 But that’s the thing about Capri’s world—drama always knows how to find her, even when she’s trying to grow and protect her peace.
What I loved about this book, though, is how much more layered Capri is becoming. Her dynamic with Quameer and Ryder? Beautiful and soft in all the right ways. Watching her slowly step into this space as someone Ryder feels safe with, and Quameer clearly trusts… it’s giving growth, it’s giving family, and it’s giving complicated romance with potential. Capri doesn’t let her guard down easily, but these two are slowly chiseling through her walls.
And then there’s Core—the new brother she didn’t grow up with but is starting to bond with. I really appreciated those moments between them. Jahquel knows how to write vulnerability without losing that edge, and you can see the Delgato blood in both of them even though their paths were so different.

Capri 1
This was okay, but definitely more of an introduction than a full story. I loved Quamir’s relationship with his daughter—it made him so lovable. Capri finally came back from her year away and started stepping into her independence, but I wanted more spice between her and Meer. Felt more like setup than substance. Rating: 2.5/3.
Capri 1.5 & 2
We meet Core, the third brother—calm, smart, intuitive but still deadly. Very much a Delgato. I liked him instantly. Capri and Quamir’s relationship grew in a real way—their communication was refreshing, their wedding was beautiful, and Capri finally found her place with his family. Her bond with Ryder was adorable, and her moment standing up to her mother was long overdue. These books gave me the family warmth I was waiting for.
Capri 2.5
This is where Capri’s story started to get overshadowed. Aimee’s abortion, postpartum struggles, and Khalil dragging her into danger took up most of the spotlight. Important topics, yes—but Capri’s arc faded into the background, and I missed her voice.
Capri 3
By this point, it felt like everyone else’s story with Capri sprinkled in. Capella absolutely pissed me off—cheating on Aimee and putting his hands on her. Wannabe-Cappadonna behavior without any of the loyalty. I did like that the adults in their circle sat him down and made it clear that mess would never happen again. But then the girl he cheated with popped back up messy, sent Aimee pictures, and dropped a pregnancy bomb. The disrespect was too much.
Capri 3.5
Capella kept irritating me, but Core really stood out as a good friend to Aimee. His whole “two wives” thing with Skylar and Jeffie is… interesting, not sure how that’s going to pan out. Yasmin getting more screen time and even sitting down with Aimee made me wonder if Jahquel is planting seeds there. The big political takedown (Morgan, Rich, all of that) felt anticlimactic—we were told way more than we were shown. Morgan’s “beef” being about the Delgatos’ father and Elena came out of nowhere, but I will say it did bring the story full circle since we started with Cappadonna in jail and not really knowing why.
✨ Overall
I liked how Capri finally found her voice and confidence, and Meer stayed consistent—loving, lovable, and holding her down. But as her books went on, her story got drowned out by everyone else’s drama. What really carried was the Delgato energy—the brothers’ wild personalities, their disrespectful nicknames (Cappadonna & Capone had me laughing), and the pure chaos they bring.
Series rating: 3.5 stars. Messy, frustrating, funny, and full of family drama—but entertaining enough to keep me reading. Now I’m ready for Quasim & Blair, because I just know the Infernos are about to snatch my heart.
