I don’t date hockey players.
Especially not my best friend’s cocky, infuriating brother—the one I can’t stand.

But one scorching night shattered all the rules.
Now, I can’t stop thinking about what we started.

Gio DeLuca isn’t just known for his skills on the ice—he’s notorious for his hot temper and bad-boy attitude that fans love to hate.
He’s also the kind of sizzling hot that makes you forget your own name, with a smirk that says he knows exactly what he’s doing to you.

I’ve made a career out of calling out jerks like Gio, and trust me, he’s hated me for it since day one.
Now, I’m stuck shadowing him for an exclusive piece, and suddenly, I’m spending way too much time up close and personal with the man I swore I’d never fall for.
Our chemistry is off the charts and it’s getting harder to remember why I hate him.

But my job has a strict no-dating policy.
If we get caught, I’ll be looking for a new job.
And a new best friend.

How do we undo what’s already been done?

"I want her in every way possible. Not just as a one night stand or a f*** buddy. I want all of her."~Gio

Let's take a moment to check out that book cover shall we. B/c that's a hawtt looking man right there.🔥🫦🔥 Mmhm. I can see why Lexi went a little gaga over him.😝

This was a great book. It's a fast moving story that hits the ground running. Or in this case, gliding against the ice.⛸️⛸️ Gio is after all a professional hockey player, who's a bit of a bad boy. Okay, he's a lot more than a bit, but would any of us want Gio any other way. Probably not. Lex can handle that man all by herself.🫰🏻🤭 The banter of Lexi and Gio is feisty and lots of fun. They go wayyy back. Remember Gabi and Jacob, from Secret Pucking Play, well this book is part of the Chicago Blades Series and this time we have Gabi's bestie Lexi and her hot headed brother Gio having a chance at forever love. Which I was excited for. Let's do this.🙌🏻 You don't have to read the first book per se, it just gives a bigger world scope to the series.

Naturally there's some drama, career and life decisions to make, miscommunication, lies, and trying to navigate their one night stand to possibly working together. See Lexi is a sports corespondent, a journalist, who has been given a high profile assignment. Show the world the real Giovanni De Luca. Is he as temperamental off the ice as he is on it? Fans want to know more about him. Including women. What makes him tick? And are the rumors true, that if he doesn't cool his jets he will be traded to another team? But Lexi could lose more than her heart by getting involved with the man she's writing an exclusive on. There's conflicts of interest and blurring ethical lines. Despite the risks, they do share their past hurts, bonding even more.🫂 Lexi starts to see the man behind the persona. And Gio begins to trust and let someone into his life. If you need some steam. It's here.🔥🔥🧯 Is there a HEA? Read it and find out. I love when a story gets me invested. Like I'm a part of their relationship too.😍🤣🤣 Which technically, I am. Hehe Their banter never stopped. Literally. But it works. I know there's going to be another book with those Easter eggs at the end.🥚🤫😉🥚 Nicely done, Ms Vaughn. I do recommend. Happy reading!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

"He can push my physical and emotional buttons like no one else can."~Lexi Girlll. You know you love it.

🏒🥀Thank you to Ms Vaughn and Bookfunnel for an early book. I'm happy to share my own thoughts on the story.🥀🏒

Lexi and the Hockey Player . . .

Lexi Brookes is a sports journalist assigned to write an article about an impulsive, aggressive hockey player who happens to be her best friend’s brother. Giovanni De Luca (“Gio”) is more like her enemy than a friend. But eventually, as she starts to gather her story and is around him so much, see begins to notice more about him that she admires. The network she works for has a rule against fraternizing with subjects; and she personally doesn’t date hockey players. But will that stop them from crossing that line? Is a little fun worth risking your job with its “strict policy” you are about to ignore? As for worrying about a lost friendship if you date a brother, my philosophy is that if you are an adult, your sibling doesn’t get a say in your personal business, especially your love life. If friendship is damaged that easily, it wasn’t very strong to begin with. It drives me crazy when professional people break rules, however. There are reasons for those rules and it is disrespectful and very foolish to ignore them. That said, the relationship building will keep the reader’s attention. And if rules and immature siblings don’t bother you, you’ll probably be happy with the story.

I feel like I jumped in in the middle of a story, like I was missing something because I never saw any reason why Lexi and Gio hated each other in the first place. Was it all because of her brutal reporting? And where did the relationship with the sister come in because if Gio was her BFF's brother, wouldn't she have known him for a long time. It did not seem that way at all. It was like Lexi didn't know a single thing about him.

Then there was no reason for them to fall in love! We start the book with a one night stand, and next thing we know Gio can't stop thinking about her and has feelings for her? From one hook up? Doesn't seem realistic for a pro athlete.

And if that wasn't bad enough, I HATE how Lexi blew him off for her job. It made no sense that she would break up with him when all she had left to do was write the article and publish it. And how on earth did Gio talking to her boss fix it? Just because he's a pro player and threw around some threats?

It just made no sense.

DNF at 59%. If I read Giovanni De Luca one more time… was there a word quota to hit with this book or something? Between the overuse of the MMC’s name, the lack of personality from the FMC, and the word vomit paragraphs I just couldn’t continue.

How do we undo what’s already been done?

“Power Pucking Play” is the second book in the “Chicago Blades Series.” Giovanni “Gio” De Luca is “the notorious troublemaker of the NHL, the player who has broken more noses on the ice than he has hearts off of it.” Alexandra "Lexi" Brookes is the leading sports news correspondent for Sports News Now. Gio is Lexi’s your personal kryptonite and also her best friend Gabby’s brother.

Everything gets complicated when she is assigned to do a special feature on Giovanni De Luca. Star defenseman for the Chicago Blades pro hockey squad and the man she slept with just four short weeks ago. Her boss wants her to get a get a deeper look at the man behind Giovanni's bad boy image or a “juicy” story to write. Neither party is happy with this arrangement.

“…. the sight of Gio, graceful and powerful, as he glides across the ice.
For a moment, I'm transfixed. It's easy to forget how good he is when you're not watching him up close. His movements are fluid, precise, a stark contrast to the brute force he's known for during games.”

Will they be able to put their differences aside for two weeks? As they get to know each other on a personal and business level, will they be able to deny their feelings towards each other?

I absolutely loved this story - I was hooked by the first chapter. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series! This is a perfect love/hate relationship, with twists and turns that will keep you hooked! It has fun, laughs, intrigue, twists that you do not expect, and physical attraction. From page to page, chapter to chapter, you will enjoy this beautiful story - from cover to cover! This book will not disappoint! Highly recommended 😊

this book was okay. For most of the book, I felt like I was reading an argument between two teenagers (possible spoilers ahead)
This book starts with H & h having an ONS. You are literally just dropped into the middle of their hookup while they are saying stuff like "I still hate you" and "This doesn't change anything" and you're like OKAY.

Then....h finds out she needs to shadow H for a couple of weeks to get an inside look at his life. Suddenly, it's countless chapters of them going back and forth on how much they hate each other even though h is BFFs with H's sister. The book never explains why they have so much hate for each other Is it because they both really like each other but don't want to admit it? That sounds so junior high school.

h's opinion of H changes over the next week or so because she starts to see the real him. Huh? She is BFFs with his sister. She doesn't know anything about him in all these years? That makes no sense.

There is a lot of back and forth about their jobs. Honestly, it got repetitive.

⭐️ 3/5

This book opens with a one-night stand between Lexi, a hot shot sports reporter, and Geo, a hot headed hockey player. Lexi is then assigned to do a feature story on Geo, which forces them to spend the next two weeks together. They have history since Geo is her best friend’s brother and they grew up around each other, though it is unclear what caused so much animosity between them.

The problem is that a lot of the dislike and angst never fully made sense to me. Lexi’s hatred of Geo felt underdeveloped, especially since she should already know much of his family history through her best friend. Some of their interview conversations felt oddly disconnected, and the chemistry between them just did not fully click. Because of that, some of the emotional beats and tension fell flat.

That said, it was still a cute and quick read. While the chemistry was lacking, the story was fun enough to keep me turning pages, and I am curious enough about the Chicago Blades crew to continue the series.

Easy 4.5 stars for this hot hockey love story!
Alix does it again with this hot romance between Lexi and Gio. She ropes you in from the first chapter and keeps you hooked till you're getting in trouble for neglecting work and your family to be able read just a little more! The witty banter throughout is just the icing on the cake for this HEA story. I've read the first book in this series, but you definitely don't have to as this one can stand alone. If you love tropes involving sports, enemies to lovers, best friend's brothers, and steamy love scenes, you HAVE to read this book! You WILL NOT be disappointed!
My rating system:
5=will read again
4=recommend to everyone
3=recommend to anyone liking that particular writing style/trope
2=do not recommend
1=DNF

OH WOW!!!! This was a steamy page turner and the suspense was so intense. I was on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t even put it down. It was addictive and awesome. Giovanni and Lexi chemistry was spicy hot and sexual tension. The physical tension between them was intense and mind blowing. They couldn’t fight the temptation any longer as they gave into their limitations and passion of romance and that one night with him will change everything in their lives. He was the bad boy hockey player and could she tamed him in this moment.
I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

You’ll love Lexi and Gio’s story and it won’t take you long to get emotionally involved with them. The characters are well developed and have a lot of depth. He’s a hothead hockey player and brother of her best friend and she’s stubborn photo journalist. They despise each other but when she interviews him she sees another side of him. A night to remember breaks the rules and intensifies the drama. No shortage of turmoil as they navigate a forbidden relationship. A great book that will grab your attention right at the beginning and keep you page turning and wanting more. I read this as a free book and voluntarily chose to write a review.

oh Gio

This was the one i was waiting for- Gio & Lexi.
Gio & Lexi left if all on the pages- and it was so good! I’d read it again! Their story was slow at a couple parts, but the rest of it was so spicy and fun filled banter, all the things I love in a hockey hotties book!
Lexi is a strong independent journalist and BFF to Gio’s sister- PR head to his hockey team.
Gio is known as the icebreaker on the ice, and hot-headed hockey player. Arrogant brother, who’s a pITA off the ice. Lol So sexy and irresistible!
Their chemistry is amazing and fun to read. And I can’t wait to read Sophie and Evan’s story!!!

What do you get when you mix a hot headed hockey player and a stubborn journalist? This absolutely masterpiece that’s what! Lexi and Gio’s story was one that I think will live rent free in my head for a while. This book combines hockey, enemies to lovers, and great banter with all of the characters. However it also touches on everyday struggles, family issues, and hard life decisions. Sometimes you have to ask yourself is your job more important or is fighting your happiness?

When Lexie gets the break of her career to write an expose on hot hockey star Gio De Luca the sparks fly. He’s her best friend’s brother and has been her nemesis since they were kids. Now she has to act professional and get the real story behind his tough guy persona. They can’t seem to keep their hands off each other and both of their careers and hearts are at risk. I really enjoyed their story. I love hockey romances and this one didn’t disappoint. They have great chemistry and banter. Worth the read.

Surprisingly good

The dynamics between the media and those who are famous is controversial to say the least. The desire for reporters to know all the deep, dark secrets behind the fame, personal information, getting the scoop is tumultuous to say the least.

However, when an interviewer and subject click magic happens. That's what happens in this story. Magic. Letting vulnerability show, trusting that the story will be tasteful, true, not embellished, and that there will not be surprising secrets revealed to enhance their story.

Aww Gio

I love Gio! He’s such a sweetheart, as long as you’re not on his opposing team while on the ice.

I did get annoyed with Lexie at times. I can’t specifically say why, as I think it would lean towards spoilers territory, but I wanted to shake her. It’s always annoying when a character pushes for one thing, the other character gives in, then the first character changes their mind again. Doh!

It’s a really good, cute book though. Sweet love story.

When you are the sports reporter who usually writes the headlines on your best friend’s brother’s bad boy hockey shenanigans but never getting to real truth. When you finally get to see the man behind the hockey rumors and fall hard. How can you write objectively if you’re in love with person you’re writing about? I love a good Best Friend’s brother trope and this one is so interesting. I loved the banter and the Gio under the hockey persona!

I think this is my first 1* review!!! I read the blurb of all books available in this series so I know the names of the main characters of each book. So colour me surprised when I'm about 4 chapters in and MFC of book 2 is talking all about her husband who is MMC of book 2. So what's the point of reading it now. I mean obvs they were gonna end up together but cmon it's just out of order. Also. Number your books. Had to google trying to find out which was number one!

I love sports romance

Rating- 4.4

This book pulled me in immediately, and although I found some spots to be slow and a little boring, I enjoyed the banter between the main characters. There was a good amount of 🌶️, which if I’m honest, I enjoy.

This book was well worth the read, and for those who want an HEA you will definitely get that here.

Possible spoilers….

I was looking forward to reading this book. It was goodish I liked it up until the characters started repeating and repeating the article she was writing. Also, How “they” the family practically had to beg Gio over and over again to give Sophie a chance.
I had a hard time finishing it. I skimmed over the ending bc the end and the epilogue was just sex!

I like it. I will say that it very quickly, like literally a page, from I hate you and despise you to lovey dovey pretty much out in the open considering the roles the characters pay. But i mean still good over all. Some things, I expected from the jump but still was surprised with certain scenes.

I thought this was a great book. However, I did not think that best friend relationship was as developed as I would have liked. I loved the epilogue and their happy ending.
