DNF for me. IMHO Eira had a negative arch, and she became cold and boring. Since she´s plating with Cullen and Olivin and in the end doesn´t care about any of them I lost interest. I could have dealed with her changing fron Cullen to Oliving but this got boring and meaningless.
2025 - January I'm deducting my rating to 2 stars as I thought more and more about this book; I do not want to reread it and see if my feelings will change with the ending. They won't. It was poorly done for the characters in my opinion, poorly developed and frustrating to read Eira's arc on this story, as I loved her so much up until the third book, but her pirate storyline ruined her story for me.
2024 - November I will start by saying I almost gave this book 2 stars. There were a lot of moments where I was so annoyed at the story and at Eira. First I hated that she really became a pirate. I didn't want this for her. There was a harshness on her I profoundly dislike, and even when her friends were calling her out on it, she would always be "I must do what I must do". Not only that, but, it seems like she was suppose to have her shit together and be this amazing leader, which I found her to be not. I found her quite the little tyrant that didn't plan any shit, which on the last book costed them Noelle's life. Throughout this whole series seeing her journey was what made me the most excited but... I don't really love who she became. I really don't. I saw the author mentioned how these characters didn't go where she was planning them to go, that they did their own decisions and for me it shows. I don't really love when authors decide to not stick with their planning and let the characters go "as they pleased" because the end result is never good, it was feels unplanning. Which is something these characters did a lot, going into places without a plan, and then I'm to believe none of they die on this book? Let's talk about the romance, the whole annoying love triangle: listen, its a why choose story. Do I agree with it? Not at all. Did I care for Olivin as a character? No. Did I care about his romance with Eira? Even less. Did I miss Cullen's presence on this book? Yes. Did I feel like the author decided to focus on Olivin a lot instead of developing the plot aka defeat the bad guy? Yes. And did I feel like the ending was too easy and done without too much care? Yes! Again, they went to the last "battle" without much planning with Eira thinking she was Superman! It was really annoying. It made me miss the earlier books, even with all of her struggles, I liked that Eira - even when she would mess shit up for being naive and not planning, but hey, at least she kept that part of herself unchanged. For last I will say this: I like the confrontation she had with her family and how she fared with them, however I still think it was all anti-climatic. Overall this book lacked tension. It did made me wish to reread Air Awakens, that was Elise Kova's best work in my option, and maybe even reread this series to see if I change my opinion knowing now what I know - aka the stupid why choose romance. And that is the only reason I'm giving 3 stars and not 2, because I do want to reread it eventually and see if I would still didn't love this ending.

Eira has too loose of morals. She's just a little whore. I skipped most of it to see who she finally ended up with. Two men weren't even enough for her. She also became ruthless.
Oh God... So many things in this book simply didn't work for me!
- Eira going full Pirate Queen I mean.. I just didn't buy Eira as this ruthless Pirate Queen. It felt so out of tune with her character and entirely unplanned. Also, Eira is not really a good leader and I never really understood why these people actually follow her?
- Did Kova just do reverse Star Wars? I kept waiting for Adela to turn around and say that she actually was Eira mother- or a the very least her aunt or something. But no... Eira is most certainly just a nobody despite having been set up to very much be someone in terms of family relations. I kinda hated it...
- What was this romance thing even? Why bother spending SO MUCH TIME setting up romances and all that s**t if the lead doesn't care herself? This was clearly a "why pick one if I can have both" thing, and I would have been more okay with it, if Eira had been more clear in her communication and if Cullen and Olivia hadn't clearly communicated that while being willing to stick around until Eira was ready to pick one, they very much expected her to pick one at some point.
I hated her "guess I'll be with Cullen for now, until someone else shows up that I might want to hook up with". Imagine if the Eira had been a male lead and had treated the female love interests like that?
- The plot, has anyone seen it? I guess the plot happened somewhere in-between the pretend-romance and pirate side-things. I didn't care all that much for it.
- Most anti-climactic ending of the year Did we really spend 5 books for that showdown? I feel like Wynry turned out to be a bigger and much more interesting adversary.
Unfortunately, I have not been so disappointed by the finale of a book so far. Books 1-4 were great but the character development of Eira in the book was just painful. Why is there a love triangle? The Why Choose completely turned me off from the romance and in the end she is shown who truly wants to be by her side and she still is pining over Olivin. She has undeniable chemistry with Cullen and Olivin seems like he should have been a quick rebound that is all.
I also understand her need for revenge but the change to an utterly ruthless person who doesn’t care who dies in her wake innocent or guilty is a bit much. You would think after losing Noelle she would have had more respect for innocent life but it is only when it suits her.
Unfortunately this book was just a miss for me. The journey to Qwuint dragged on and the final scene took like a chapter. It doesn’t feel wrapped up at all to me just rushed.
DNF- I regret this book purchase. I didn't like who she was becoming. Also found out it is a why choose and I am not a fan of that ending for this series.
That’s how I felt about this book. It took me on a journey. The series took me on a JOURNEY. I love this world so much and I am so happy to have another completed series from Elise Kova. She is one of my favorite fantasy romance authors for a reason.
One of the big things for me was how the romance was handled. I’m pretty sure it’s something I haven’t read before and I loved the way it just made sense. I’m learning I can be convinced of different iterations of tropes and I love that for my reading journey.
The plot is epic and I loved the pacing. There’s not a moment that doesn’t fit, not a moment that doesn’t have you begging to know what happens next. I loved this entire cast and found family. And even the characters I wasn’t expecting to love wormed their way in. The ending is beautiful, the emotions are intense and the voyage is worth it.
Overall audience notes: - NA Fantasy Romance - Language: low - Romance: vague open door - Violence: moderate – high - Content Warnings: torture, loss of life, gun violence,
3 stars!! FINALLY wow this was a bittersweet and honestly not a bad ending I loved Eira and all of the characters in this book! This universe has me in a chokehold I love the way Eira ended up as a pirate who embraced who she was, even when i know not a lot of people liked that part I think it makes her different than the other main characters of this universe that are a bit more empathetic and emotional I really didn’t like the love triangle, but i’m so so glad Cullen stuck I liked him better LOL and Eira growing into herself and becoming who she wants and not being held back was one of the best bits This book had some slower parts, but I was excited for the action that was held at the end, and I felt satisfied with how it all concluded :3 thank you Elise this universe has my heart

Boring, too long, obvious love triangle resolution in which the main love interest kind of becomes a wet papertowel little wuss, and an unsatisfying ending. This book, well, the last half of this series, made it so that I have no desire to read any of the rest of the books set in this world and maybe anything at all from Elise Kova going forward.
3/5. This is so disappointing because I love this world, I kinda knew I wasn’t going to like this book, but I’m glad I finished off the series. This is the third series within this world and it’s definitely the worst, I liked the other two much better.
Well...Elise Kova certainly knows how to hold my attention. I have adored this series and it was a near perfect ending to another brilliant adventure in this world.
Firstly, I must say, please read the Air Awakens series, the Golden Guard trilogy and the Vortex Chronicles series before this A Trial of Sorcerers. It sounds like a lot but it is SO worth it. One of my favourite worlds with incredible characters, mind blowing magic, beautiful love stories and an overwhelming amount of action and adventure.
This final installment of The Trial of Sorcerers did not let it down. From the start we were thrown back into this epic world and didn't really have time to breathe from start to finish. It is SO engaging and addictive and I am truly obsessed with this world Kova has made. I felt this storyline ended really well and the twists and turns to get there were pretty epic.
One of my favourite things is the character building and the journeys they go on. Every single character has grown so much in these five books and it was really interesting to see. This is especially true for our lead female Eira who is definitely morally grey and full of power. She is a force to be reckoned with and I loved her confidence and love for her close friends in this book. She surprised me a lot and although I didn't agree with some of her choices, I also don't think I was meant to. Her "crew" is made up of many brilliant characters that add so much to the overall story but also have stories of their own. It added so much depth and interest. I will say, I can't quite give 5 stars as I wanted a little more clarity on the romance aspect at the end of the book. I felt a little frustrated that zi didn't get that. But I still loved how Elise Kova navigated the romance in this series, it was truly refreshing and had a why choose trope.
I am sad to see this series come to an end and just hope that it isn't the end of this world I love. I am however very excited for the two new books/series Elise Kova will release in 2025. If you love fantasy...READ THESE SERIES!

⮞ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 ⮜ Eira - Ah! It was bittersweet to say goodbye to Eira and her team. I loved her character from the very beginning because you could see her growth from book to book, however, in this last book I felt she became more and more like Adela and I was expecting something else from her. I did expect her to take on the role, but still remain herself. I felt she kind of went back to being the too cocky and putting her friends in danger. Cullen - Took me by surprise how much he grew and how interesting and open minded he became. I really enjoyed his character. Almos all of the characters will be missed, and even now til the end I kept waiting for that "gotcha" moment in which THAT particular character would come to life, but alas.
⮞ 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝-𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 ⮜ I loved the world-building because the majority of it happened on the sea and it was truly captivating. The magic system, the pirating and navigating the waters, the battle scenes - mind-blowing.
⮞ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝/𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐝 ⮜ I loved the story from beginning to end. I liked the adventure we have gone on, the way the characters worked together and the overall vibe of the story. Also, one thing to mention, this is NOT a love triangle - at least not in my opinion because of how things are developing. Yes Eira has two love interests but it seems everyone is happy with the situationship that is happening. I enjoyed Adela's appearance once again because she is the legend. I am a bit bummed that we still didn't figure it out who Eria's mom is, but I guess that's the delicious part of the story - an unresolved mistery that MAYBE will be used in another book to finally get some answers? Who knows!
⮞ 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞/TW ⮜ I'd say the spiciness in the story is round 2.5 pepper flames. It is implied they have intercourse, but the scenes are very sweetly detailed, nothing raunchy or too many details. Is more like soft spice than anything else. There are battle scenes, blood, injuries like a broken leg and so on, however nothing that happened in the story triggered me because while the scenes were quite impactful they weren't very detailed to give me that graphic image.
It pains me that I didn’t love this finale and the series didn’t hit the way all of Elise’s other books have for me. I think it comes down to the romances. Elise has always written such fantastic romances and characters I root for, but I just didn’t love the arcs here. Eira became so cold and ruthless, and neither man was a good fit. Maybe this would have worked better as a truly adult book?
(Also I’m a little bummed we never confirmed Eira’s parentage).
Not a bad series, but Air Awakens and Vortex Chronicles are way superior.
I was waiting for this book forever, and now that it’s over, I’m so not ready to move on 😔. Elise Kova delivered a finale that was everything I hoped for and more. The journey from the magical competition in the earlier books to this exhilarating pirate adventure was an absolute rush! 🏴☠️ I was glued to the page, living for Eira’s fierce determination to take control of her fate and lead with courage. Watching her grow from the girl we met at the start to the powerful sorceress we see now was deeply satisfying.
Eira absolutely owned this book. Her strength, vulnerability, and refusal to back down showed just how much she had grown through her battles, both external and internal. 💪 She wasn’t afraid to let her magic and heart loose, and her leadership shone through in every scene. It was inspiring to see her finally embrace everything that made her “dangerous” in the eyes of others. The stakes couldn’t have been higher—five kingdoms on the verge of war, a ruthless empire ready to strike, and a pirate queen wreaking havoc across the seas. The tension was real, and Eira was at the center of it all, fighting to protect her world and her crew.
I’ve never been the biggest fan of love triangles, so I’ll admit I was a little nervous about how things would play out. But Kova handled it with such care! 💖 It was resolved in a way that felt respectful to all the characters involved, which honestly made me love them all the more. The slow-burn romance that’s been simmering for so long was finally given its moment, and it was so worth the wait. The emotional payoff was beautiful without overshadowing the action-packed finale. 🌹
The twists and treachery in this book kept me on the edge of my seat. The madman pulling all the strings was terrifying, and the personal vendetta he had against Eira made every encounter between them pulse with tension. There were moments when I genuinely didn’t know how things would end! But in true Eira fashion, she met each challenge head-on, ready to take what was hers and destroy anyone in her path. 👑🔥
Tropes to Love ❄️ 👑 Strong heroine 🏴☠️ Pirates 💖 Love triangle (resolved!) 🗡️ Sword and sorcery 🧙♀️ Elemental magic 💔 Loss and grief 🛡️ Found family 🌍 Epic world-building 🎯 Coming of age 🔥 Good vs. evil
If you’re a fan of epic fantasy with fierce heroines, slow-burn romance, pirates, and elemental magic, A Queen of Ice is an absolute must-read! 🦋✨
Thank you to Elise Kova and BOMM for the ARC opportunity! This was the perfect finale to an unforgettable series. I’ll miss these characters dearly, but I know their story will stick with me for a long time. 💙
2.5 ⭐️ Eira had a shitty character arc and annoyed the shit out of me. Also the whole why choose thing sucked. I was curious to see who she would end up with in this book but just not choosing was crap. The chemistry with Olivin was totally gone so this was totally unnecessary
The series should start and end with Air Awakens. The follow up isn't that good unnecessary. Eira is way to arrogant to be liked and an ending with single love interest (Cullen) would have been much better I think.

Magic system is creatively thought out but wrap up was swift and story more telling than showing. Seems to me the “why choose” romance had a clear choice and she chose wrong.
I did not love how this series ended. I felt like Eira got to cold and ruthless that I didn’t really like her anymore. I won’t be reading this series again.
This series went downhill and it’s so sad! I really loved the first two books and book three was solid. The fourth book was borderline meh but I thought I had a good idea of where we were going and how Eira was going to develop and become.
It this book kind of throws out all of the development she made in the first few books and changes her to where she becomes unrecognizable. Here’s the thing, I believe she could have gotten where this book takes us if more of this development happened in earlier books it would have made sense. Instead she does like a sharp 180 and basically screws with her friends, her love interests, and her family it’s like I don’t know who she is anymore.
My least favorite thing which I talked about in my review for book four is this forced love triangle. Shouldn’t exist. She has no chemistry with Oliven they don’t really have anything in common and it’s like she suddenly decided to like him and then sleep with him. This love triangle unfortunately continues in this book and she claims she loves him but considering how very little they know about each other, how little time they’ve spent together, and the fact they don’t want the same things like I don’t believe it. She even tells Cullen she wasn’t sure what love was but then says she loves Cullen and then later Oliven. Girl please. You don’t love Oliven. So yeah she basically tries to keep them both which just didn’t seem like something she would do especially since there’s no chemistry for Oliven. I felt bad for Cullen who I was previously angry at but honestly he deserved better.
She also pulls a Daenarys from game of thrones and starts killing innocent people and she doesn’t give a shit which is a very quick and random development that is also not believable.
One of the things that angers me most is we still don’t know her parentage. Honestly I still think it’s Adela and I think it’s messed up we were toyed with for so long not to find out. And it does matter it’s how she’s so powerful and why she was abandoned which is like a huge part of this story and her journey.
Major spoilers follow E decides to basically tell her parents off she’s angry they didn’t treat her like Marcus that they were afraid of her and what she could do so she’s like I don’t want a relationship with them. Valid sure. But how she decides this in like a few seconds is not believable she’s spent four books wants to belong and craving family I don’t believe she would just cut off her parents and tell them off. She also finds her Uncle Fritz who is alive and basically more gently tells him off she’s she decides she is gonna become Adela which also doesn’t seem like something she would want for the rest of her life but that’s the theme of this book- have E do things and make decisions that go against who she is and her well being.
She wants to make her friend Alys stay and fight and pirate with her but thankfully that girl has common sense and she’s like bye after the battle. The battle scene is like one chapter and somehow she defeats the bad guy and freezes the whole city and uses a special dagger to share what he said about not being the light to the whole town. That felt really random and rushed but whatever.
Adela retires and leaves. Vi abdicates the throne to be queen of Meru and her parents are still alive. Her brother will inherit the throne.
I was kind of disappointed with the turn in Eira's personality... I don't mind her being the new Pirate Queen, but it feels like her personality just kind of did a 180 to better match Adela... It erased a lot of the things I liked about Eira.
Secondly, the love triangle. Ugh. Why did we spend more time on that than the actual plot, only for it to not even be that good? Cullen was good in the first few books but at this point he was barely ever there. Olivin gets the occasional scene, but I swear most the conflict is from Eira thinking about it herself than actually spending time with either of them? Basically telling instead of showing.
THIRDLY. The plot to defeat Ulvarth. Felt very rushed. Where the fuck is Deneya??? And more selfishly, I wanted some more Vi time!!!! You can't tease me like this!!!!

What an epic conclusion to this series. I adore Eira's growth as a character, and the end really highlights her growth. The epilogue is my favorite part. Adela is still a prominent character, which I also love because she is such a badass character. You can really see how each character is changed by their experience with Ulvarth and the Pillars. It has found family, explorations of relationships, adventure, grief, and an expansion of magic. To me, this last book answers the core questions Eira had in the first novel about who she was and where she belonged. It emphasizes her journey to find herself.
DNF at 20%. This is the last book of the series, and I just don't care for main character. Or the plot, there's plenty of action but nothing really happens? it feels like weirdly assembled jigsaw with dropped plot points and nothing feeling important. I don't know how to explain it. no rating because it might just be a me problem
Tbh I almost gave this a 3 star rating, but the ending was satisfying for me. I found the first 2/3rds of this book were not particularly engaging for me.
(Kind of spoilers)
And I find it hard to believe Eira’s transformation into someone so ruthless.
And I LOVE that she stayed close to her best friend and how that relationship was just as important, if not more so, than her love interests.
I was really disappointed with this final book. The main character turns into a degenerate. She doesn’t have a love interest either. She just have boy toys.

it's ended sweet and good, I kinda liked it. but I would give it only 2,5 or 2,75 but this site doesn't have half star.
I don't know why it's always happening this way but like the writers would be confused about how they'd continue, they always make more than half of it blank. The way they continuously go back and forth with circling around in the same spots, like I'm reading the same chapter over and over again, was really boring. Making some important characters die in some stupid situation which they could easily avoided because they're "strong"; in every book it's like this. Annoying & boring. Making them stay in limbo just because you think you should discover yourself? Then do that and tell them the outcome rather than continuously f***king them both thinking that the pirate should be like that. Repelling & boring and sometimes it even felt so disgusting. Some parts of the battle scenes were kinda blur and confusing with all the weird descriptions.
