Something Off-Limits

Sam

Who knew strumming a guitar could lead to the forbidden chords of love?

Storm—my best friend’s sister, the melody in my chaotic life.
But she’s off-limits, a secret I keep in the shadows.
One I don’t deserve to hold.
I’m a nobody, trying to make a name for myself, hoping to be worthy enough for her.
I don’t care what it takes—whether it’s leading a rock band or playing lacrosse.
I’ll do it until I deserve her.
Deep down I know I never will, but I’m a selfish enough bastard to keep trying.
Storm, with her midnight curls and eyes that sparkle like stage lights, is everything I shouldn’t want.
But she’s the harmony to my soul.
Our hidden moments are the lyrics I cherish most.
But with every secret meeting, I fear the final note of our love song.
Will our melody survive the harsh reality?

Storm

I just had to fall for the campus flirt with a guitar, Sam Shin-Carter.

He’s not just the lead singer of a band; he’s also on the lacrosse team.
He’s been popular since high school.
But he’s my brother’s best friend—off-limits.
Our love is the secret we can’t let slip.
At Dennington University, he’s a star, on and off the field.
Sam, with those stormy eyes and a smile that undoes me every time.
His voice, low and rough, feels like it’s meant for me alone.
We’re sneaking moments, pushing boundaries, always wanting more.
As things heat up, I wonder: will we ever get to be out in the open?
Or are we stuck hiding in the shadows, pretending it’s nothing when it’s everything?

3.5 Stars-It’s a Start

In Ruthless Keeper, we are introduced to Sam and Storm, two star crossed lovers if you will. Storm is Sam’s friend's little sister and we all know the rules about that…

While seeing each other on the sly, Sam and Storm both have some serious family situations to worry about. Being caught by her brother seems like child’s play as compared to their home lives. Which honestly, was a bit confusing. It seemed like these kids were working to keep their families a float, then not appreciated for the effort at all. So much back and forth, most of the time I didn’t know what was going on.

The storyline is predictable, however very convoluted with the home situations. It’s a short, clunky read that stayed at the YA level for me and is to be continued.

Sam has had a poverty filled childhood which has left a mark on him, and part of it is he's a hard worker but the flip side is he's also living in some fear about not having enough in life as an adult. He's the friend of Storm's brother, and they've been seeing each other on the downlow which has the power to really bring on drama if it comes out because of bro code & all. Storm's life takes a tragic turn which has the power to derail Sam's planned out future so he has some decisions to make, and also needs to deal with the fear before he makes the wrong decision that he can't take back. So yeah, this story has quite a bit of angst, and anxiety for me as I totally understand fear driving me into mistakes that I can't take back, and I found myself wanting to shake Sam more than once LOL! Anyway you know what to do to see how it all plays out as I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Ruthless Keeper by Laine Watson is part of the Players and Sinners Collection. It’s a wonderfully written read that is angst filled! It is an emotional story that has lots of drama involving family. The characters are engaging and the storyline was entertaining and held my interest from beginning till the end. It had a lot of sexy and romantic moments between Sam and Storm. This book had lots of drama and heartbreaking moments! Looking forward to reading more and seeing where Sam and Storm’s journey goes.

This is the fourth book I've read written by Laine Watson; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

This is part of the Players and Sinners Series; it is a stand-alone book. The story is about Sotrm & Sam; she’s his best friend’s sister and he’s in love with her but doesn’t feel like he is good enough for her.

To keep or not to keep, to commit or not.
This story has quite a bit of angst, and anxiety, but when fear hold you hostage it’s understandable.
Bad upbringing, distrust will always lead to weighting every single step.
Good storyline.

Ruthless Keeper (Players and Sinners Collection) brings multi-tropes together in one sweet read. The characters are engaging. Music, sports, and romantic moments. Family drama, heartbreak, and happiness for now, as this storyline continues in another book.
