I read this book thinking it was a sequel to The Shop on Blossom Street. And Blossom street was only mentioned at the very end of the book. I was hoping for something more like Blossom Street and instead I got a book full of characters that I disliked intensely and a story that only kept me reading to find out the answer to the mystery behind the story. I was glad when it was over and I was disappointed that the characters who deserved it never got their comeuppance and the characters the reader is supposed to like never really redeemed themselves. Not to mention the fact that when the mystery of the story is finally solved it's such a bland climax and such a stupid resolution that instead of feeling satisfied like I usually do at the end of a good book, I was just really ticked off that I had wasted so much time on such a dumb story with such lame characters.
I gave the book one star, because it did manage to keep me on the hook long enough to finish it. But, if you're looking for something uplifting and enjoyable like Blossom Street...don't read this book.

I read this book years ago, but I reread it by listening to the audiobook. I love most of Debbie Macomber books, and I remember really liking this book when I first read it. I have to say this is not like Debbie Macomber books, and it is also not like the first two book in the Blossom Street. Susannah's mother is getting old and cannot live by herself, so in this book Susannah goes to her mother's house to help her understand she needs to move into a nursing home. While at her mother's house crazy things starts happening. I would say this is a mystery with a little bit of romance. I think if you do not normally read romance, but have been wanting to then this book maybe good for you. I have to say I loved the ending. (*)

Another fantastic Blossom Street book! This one technically didn't take place on Blossom Street, but at the end it ties it into the series lol. The ending was SO amazing 💖💖 Cannot wait to read the next one

This is a book that you are supposed to read befor "Back on Blossome Street" It isn't part of the series but yet it is. I was a little upset with having to read the whole thing to finelly figure out in the end why I should read it befor the final book in the series. Like I said you don't have to read it but it is a good idea to do it. It helps in the last book so you know the characters. I did like the book I was just trying to figure out how it all went together the whole time I was reading it and in the end it explaines. But THE END come on!!!!

It was a bit of a surprising, that the structure of this novel was totally different from the one, the first two books show.
Susannah is feeling that something needs to change. She isn´t happy with her current life and missing something. What if she´ rebelled against her father during her teenage years and done things differently? And why is she dreaming of her past boy-friend Jake? When she gets informed, that her mother isn´t able anymore to live alone, Susannah has to make decisions she doesn´t want to make, and her marriage is at stake.
Don´t get me wrong. Debbie Macomber has kept her soft and quiet writing-style. And she shows you the typical family life as you probably expect it from her. And I was kind of okay with that for most of the book. But on the other hand, she shows some characters that make you almost furious. A young twenty-year-old who behaves as if the world is only fun and nothing she does has consequences, or the wife who feels responsible for everything that went the wrong way. And then this end. The author turns everything into a cheesy novel and was digging very deep into the box where you find all sort of stereotypes.
I missed the charm and humor the author shows in all her other novels. Or at least, in some of them. As nice as this novel is to read, it is also very dull and doesn´t get over the level of being an average novel.
A mother in need of her daughter (Vivian), a twenty-old girl (oh yes, Chrissie is nothing but a fretful and unmatured girl who behaves more like a three-year-old) who still believes that life is only fun and butterflies, drugs, a judge and a woman (Susannah) who always acts as if she is responsible for everything humankind does wrong and who feels responsible for everyone.
I might sound bad when I say this, but why on earth is Susannah always acting as if she is responsible for everything that happens outside her family and world? Sure, she is a mother with two kids who aren´t the perfect ones. Especially not her daughter Chrissie. Never saw a twenty-year-old acting the way this girl is acting. Holy moly, somethings while reading I could have easily taken her aside and ask her what the hell she was thinking that she´s doing.
Chrissie demands answers to everything she is asking her mother, but doesn´t see a point to answer her mother´s questions herself. She wants to help, but the moment a man is showing his interest in her, she is gone.
From all the Debbie Macomber novels I´ve read, this one is one of her weakest works. Sure, if you are in for a book that drips from all the cheesiness and stereotypes, then this is absolutely your book. For me it was only average, though it had its moments.

I picked this up at a library book sale and read it while emptying my mother's storage unit. I wanted something light at the end of the day. This was oddly parallel to my daily tasks - Susannah goes to her childhood home to move her mother with memory issues. You would think I would want to avoid a book about what I was dealing with, but I kind of liked hearing about someone else dealing with similar things. I gave it 4 stars not because of great writing (the plot is a bit far fetched), but just because it was a relaxing ending to otherwise stressful and draining days. We can always count on Debbie Macomber for tidy endings.

I think I liked this one the best. Things sometimes change in mid-life, call it a midlife crisis or whatever, but they do. I love the way the author spins her tales and develops her characters in the storyline

This book is so gripping! It's my favorite Debbie Macomber book that I have read thus far. There is a little bit of mystery, a lot about growth, healing, relationships, family life, and new directions. I will read this one again. Thank you for sending it to me, Jennifer!

Susannah Nelson finds herself regretting the paths not taken. When her mother, Vivian, begins having trouble coping and remembering things after the death of Susannah's father, she knows it is time to move her mom into a senior living facility. So Susannah goes home to Colville Washington to deal with moving her mother and closing up the house. Susannah finds herself coping with the past, her mother, and her 20 year old daughter who acts likes she's 15. Can she find solace in her mother's garden and make peace with the past?
This story dealt beautifully with finding peace with the past and learning to live with the roads taken and the things we didn't know. Also realizing thankfulness for the things we do have that God has given us in the second chances we have taken.

Debbie Macomber is an old favourite. But this one was not set in Blossom Street though included in the series. And it turned out to be a bit too much, too contrived and straight silly at places.

Debbie Macomber's books never disappoint. EVER. Susannah comes back to her hometown to deal with a mom with failing mental capabilities and a 20 year old daughter that is getting mixed up with the wrong guy.
As always, Debbie focuses more on relationships rather than love and passion. Her books touch your heart, because there's something about everyone's life in Debbie's book.
Susannah is in a rut when she goes home to Corville. She's frustrated with life and maybe a little bit frustrated with her husband Joe, and she's been dreaming about her high school sweetheart. Coming home and catching up with her old friends and discovering family secrets makes her determined to find out what happened to that ex (Jake).
She gets way more than she bargained for in the process. The story takes on a bit of a suspenseful turn when she hires a PI to find Jake.
The last chapters will definitely surprise most readers and it really makes for a happy ending for more than just Susannah and her family.
Debbie has created such wonderful character's; Susannah, the dutiful daughter, unsure of her marriage and how to deal with her mother, Vivian, her mother who is having a hard time coping with the loss of her husband and the changes in her mental health, Chrissie, the young daughter, a bit spoiled and longing for fun for the summer, Carolyn, Susannah's longtime friend who is finally willing to let herself fall in love.
When you read the book, these characters will become your friends and neighbors and when you finish the last page, it will be like saying goodbye to old friends. This is a definite winner.

This was an emotionally turbulent novel. Hard choices are made that affect so many lives. Macomber’s inviting writing shines through in every aspect of the tale. This was an interesting tale but not nearly as captivating as the 1st two novels in the series. Susannah’s opinions and prejudices permeate everything. The entire novel revolves around her need to do something that may not necessarily be in everyone’s best interest. Through it all, Macomber develops her cast of characters in a manner that allowed me to get to know them all very well.
All in all I think my biggest issue with this novel was the fact that I don’t really understand how this novel fits into the Blossom Street series (other than a single sentence at the end). It seemed out of place for me.

I liked this book also, mainly because it was about a character that I read about in one of her other books. This one was not as fun to read, because the main character seemed to be hung up on finding answers on her old boyfriend even though she we now 50 years old and married for 25 years. It seemed that she was desperated to find out information that she just needed to let go. I did like the ending and how everything did work out between all characters. This author tends to have happy endings and I do like those.

I didn't really warm most of the characters in the story and found myself wondering where this was all going. I felt a few of the storylines were not concluded and wonder if these will be picked up in later books.

I did not expect to enjoy this book as much as I did! After reading some reviews, I knew that it would be unlike the previous two books in the Blossom Street series. For the first half of the book, I was only mildly entertained. Susanna, Carolyn and Chrissie appeared to be nice people albeit somewhat ditzy. Then it got better! Now I am looking forward to Book #4 of the series.

I've always enjoyed Debbie's book but my word this one had me totally hooked so many twist and turns that you really want to keep reading to see what happens. Full of families and secrets along with old friendships and old boyfriends a very touching read along with heartfelt and funny and a must read for sure.

She married and had a child but she gets a phone call from her mothers cleaner and she then rings the neighbour and she decides she has to head home to support her mother and she decides she can also see what happened to Jake her first love. She wonders if she regrets the path she's been taken so thinks it will be perfect to find him while supporting her mother. She arrives home and realised her mother is worse than she expected and really needs to move into assistant living but her mother isn't sure at all. She starts seeing old friends and learning different things but when she starts reading paperwork from her father who passed away she begins to wonder what really happened in the past. She also lost a brother through an accident and she learns things about him. Her daughter ends up coming to live with her as she doesn't want to stay with the dad but she finds a boyfriend and she can feel things aren't right. Susannah really starts to learn the past wasn't all that she thought it was and comes across many secrets and surprises and will she be happy or not and will she find Jake or not and can she save her marriage she's in now.

Susannah’s mother, Vivian seems to be losing her memory about 6 months after Susannah’s father died. Susannah hadn’t been home much as she wasn’t close to her father. But, she needs to go home to try to convince her mother to move to assisted living. Susannah’s 20-year old daughter is finished her first year of college, but hasn’t found a job, so Chrissie decides to come help her mom with packing Vivian’s house. At the same time, Chrissie has other other ideas, as she wants to have fun this summer, so when she meets bad boy Troy...
It wasn’t fast moving, and I would have rated it good, anyway, but I upped the rating by a 1/4 star for a couple of the twists at the end of the book. I did like this. I preferred the storyline between Susannah and her mother over Susannah and Chrissie; Chrissie seemed more like a drama-queen teenager than an adult. Susannah met up with other friends from high school, as well, and I wasn’t a fan of her friend Carolyn’s romance, as it seemed out of place, but it did end up tying in at the end, as well.

Oh my, where to start....
First off, this book DOES NOT follow in the Blossom Street books hardly at all. It is casually mentioned in the very end. The title of this book hardly even makes sense. It should be called Vivian's Garden instead, to be honest!
Second, the characters are very unlikeable. They are all very stubborn and make terrible choices. Ladies, if you are thinking about another guy instead of the man you have been married to for 25 years it might be time to get marriage counseling! The daughter Chrissie is sooo annoying and incredibly lazy. She thinks she is a slave because she has to cook 1 meal a day, really?
Third, I did like how the story ended and Susannah does actually figure out that her husband is the one she should be clinging to. Let that man support you, hun! I also like how Debbie's writing is very easy to read and engage in, which is why I am rating this 2.5 stars. It really could have been a lot better, but I didn't loath it entirely.

This was on top of the stack passed to me by my sisters, and i picked it up knowing it would be a light read. Not dull, just easy. This is not the sort of writing that has you lingering over a turn of phrase or image encountered in the writing. But the story moved along,
Some of it was irritatingly unrealistic. Like, she is certainly of the age to have put behind any fantasies about ‘the one that got away’ boyfriend. But nope… she just has to go find him. And really? She thinks that in one day of arriving at her mother’s she can talk her into assisted living? And will single-handedly clear out her mother’s house in a relatively short time? Ha! And some cliche characters… (like her daughter’s sleazy boyfriend and his equally sleazy mother… And really snotty post-teen daughter)
But still, overall a decent happy-ending read, as expected from Debbie Macomber. Even though i figured out one of the ‘mysteries’ early on… there were still enough plot turns along the way.

Susanna is getrouwd met een lieve man. Toch blijft denken aan haar eerste liefde die verdween op de dag dat haar broer stierf. Ze moet sowieso terug naar haar geboortedorp om haar moeder te helpen die begint te dementeren en besluit dan ook een PD te huren om haar ex te vinde. Er volgt een spannend verhaal.
Levensechte personages die echter oppervlakkig blijven. Goed geschreven in een mooie schrijfstijl. Spannend met een onverwacht plot. Diepgang door een dementerende moeder en de band met je ouders. Het is een feel good boek maar je leert er niks van en het zet je niet aan het denken. Toch 5 sterren omdat het zo mooi afloopt.

Het is een feel good boek maar je leert er niks van en het zet je niet aan het denken. Toch 5 sterren omdat het zo mooi afloopt.

Infidelity in marriage is a topic I dislike. Therefore at times reading Susannah’s Garden by Debbie Macomber made me squirm in my seat. This plot is deeper and more complex than other Macomber books I have read but I’m glad I finished it and quite enjoyed it. This book combines a little bit of drama and mystery and a good old fashioned plot quite effectively. The departure from her usual style was welcomed in my case. Read it!

This story was barely connected to the Blossom Street series and that was disappointing. I did enjoy the twist at the end but I spent the whole book trying to figure out how the hell these people connected to the characters I'd met so far. Totally off track from the series. I felt it was unnecessary to read at least at this point.

I love all of Debbie Macomber books this one had such a great meaning to it with the right choices and paths a person takes in their lives times change when you take one path and than wish you would have taken another path instead and her garden was great I can relate to that as I like to garden too

It was an entertaining storyline filled with lots of (in my mind) unnecessary drama, but I did not like it being a part of the series because it didn’t tie into the series at all until the last 5 pages! Maybe that will be redeemed in later books. The twist at the end was great and I never ever saw coming.
