Some secrets are written in blood. Others are paid for with it.
Stone Blackwell has spent his life refusing his family's criminal empire. But when threats close in and enemies circle, his careful distance from the underworld collapses. He needs protection from someone as ruthless as the danger hunting him—someone who won't flinch at what he might become.
Raven Cawford is an elite Umber operative, trained to kill without conscience. She doesn't fail. She doesn't feel. And she definitely doesn't fall for her assignments.
Except Stone Blackwell isn't just another contract. He's brilliant, brutal when necessary, and makes her question everything Umber taught her about control. Worse—he sees past her weapons to the woman underneath, and that's more dangerous than any enemy they're facing.
As betrayals cut deep and bodies pile up, Stone discovers a devastating truth about his bloodline that shatters everything he thought he knew. His only constant is the woman who's supposed to keep him alive—the one who's killing him in entirely different ways.
Some partnerships aren't written in contracts. They're forged in violence and sealed with a kiss.
Book 3 in the Deviant Assassin Series delivers enemies-to-lovers, found family, and a romance as dark as the secrets they're uncovering. Perfect for readers who like their heroes morally gray and their heroines lethal.
Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter's Malice is the third book in the Deviant Assassin series, and it delivers another wonderfully dark and gripping thriller. While each book in the series can be read as a standalone, I recommend starting from the first book to fully appreciate the story; however, be sure to check for trigger warnings.
This novel is filled with darkness, deception, tension, seduction, and high stakes. The rich narrative weaves a delightful, tangled web, revealing the darker aspects of human nature through morally ambiguous characters and assassins, all steeped in deadly secrets, suspense, intrigue, and mystery.
Malice features a cleverly crafted plot with numerous twists and a multilayered, complex femme fatale, ensuring an unputdownable reading experience. As I mentioned with the first two books, each page pulsates with drama, passion, and desire, igniting dangerous, sexy, and sensually dark layers of craving. The tension it creates throws you into a tumultuous world filled with obsession, suspense, and emotional conflict.
I love this series! Malice is right up there with my feelings about book 1! The author’s name keeps me coming back. And the story that’s being told keeps me wanting more. Raven walks a fine line between hate & love, will she make a decision which way to fall? Stone is a man that knows what he wants, but could that be his death sentence? Stone has studied her, watched her in action and has decided that she’s the one he wants. Well how does he get her in his direct orbit, he goes to the source. Deciding to hire outside protection for himself from his enemies. Making it seem like this specific girl is the one that’s needed. What he doesn’t know is that this girl is closer than he thinks. A sorted past with his family has given her the opportunity she’s always been waiting for. Raven can’t contain herself when she finds out about her new job. She is being put right into the crosshairs of the Blackwell family. An eye for an eye (literally) is what she’s been training for. They took her parents, and she plans to take their heir. The very person that she has been tasked to protect. A perfect scenario for what she has planned, or is it? She never realized the difficulties she would face once she was in Stone’s presence. She’s drawn to him as much as he is to her. So much so that she’s conflicted and he knows it. So what happens when they need to be in close proximity when they go dark? Someone is attacking the Blackwell family from within and she is tasked with keeping Stone safe, but at what cost? A story that will keep you turning pages for answers. Some will come easy, others you will have to keep reading to find out. Though this book is part of a series, it reads very well as a standalone novel. So while I wait for more, it’s your turn to check it out! Happy reading!
In this 3rd book of the series, Raven is after revenge for the murder of her parents 20 years ago. Raven thinks she knows what happened. So Raven targets Stone Blackwell, the heir to the Blackwell syndicate. Stone once saw Raven at a charity gala and has become obsessed.
Stone is trying to build a legitimate business while his father continues to run the syndicate but it is not easy. Stone receives some threats so he finds a way to obtain Raven services as a security expert and body guard.
As the two spend time together, they begin to realize many things. Stone didn’t know about what his father did. Raven is equally obsessed with Stone as he is with her. They fight the attraction. Until they can’t fight it anymore. Then they explode.
When tragedy strikes, Stone is left with so many questions and lots of enemies circling. Raven is there to help him. Stone and Raven learn things about themselves and each other during this process. The biggest thing is that they want to be together and be partners in whatever life brings them. They have to find a way to make it work.
The plot line is wonderful. The characters are great. The series has been decent. My problem lies in the confusing plot points within the story. For instance, the safe house was 8 hours out of the city, then it was 2 hours. The timeline on some deaths don’t make sense. I can’t explain without giving away spoilers (which I try not to do) but they don’t add up. And repeated dialogue. In this one scene the same observation was made by the same character, using the same words, three times on the same page. It was weird. Maybe it is me.
I look forward to where this series moves the plot about the mole at Umber along because there has been very little movement on that plot line since the first book.
Raven Cawford is a woman with a very specialist set of skills, she is an assassin and an excellent one at that and she works for the premier firm for when you need their expertise, Umber and she has a rather interesting calling card too. Stone Blackwell is a man who knows what he wants and will stop at nothing to get it, but in a legal way, unlike the rest of his family.
What neither of them is aware of is that they each have a need to be near the other, so when Stone decides he needs protection from escalating internal threats, he knows exactly who he wants to do it and manoeuvres himself so that he can. Meanwhile, Raven is called home from a mission completed and told that she is going to be assigned a protection detail, it is something unusual for her, but as soon as she hears who she will be protecting, she sees an opportunity, but instead, she finds an even more dangerous game.
From the instant the two meet in his penthouse home for a debriefing, everything changes, the attraction which suddenly flares complicates things for Raven but clarifies things for Stone and the game between them begins and as it progresses, professionalism and desire clash and this leads to Raven begining to lose herself and her training. Every day which passes brings a new threat, both internal and external and Raven deals with them all, but not without mis-steps and this isn't like her, but will she be able to keep within the boundary lines she has drawn or will the inferno between her and Stone burn the world around them first?
This is a very dark romance where two worlds collide and sparks fly when they do, it leads to distractions, threats and death which flies around the two central lovers in a hurricane which blows you along on this epic ride as well.
Stone has a past and his family is one of the top crime families, although he has push against the tradition and the loyalty to not join the family it is becoming more and more difficult when he is drawn into battle and needs to protect himself and his friends. So when he encounters Raven his world is turned upside done, because when Stone wants something or someone he normally gets them.
Raven is part of the Umber group an elite force of woman who protect and serve whoever hires them, trained to be cold and calculated her motto has always been an eye for an eye, so when her next assignment is to protect the heir of the Blackwell Family she revels in the task as although she is hired to protect, she is close to the family who killed her parents, so this will be fun.
So as they start to work together she comes to see a different side to Stone and wonders if this task will be harder than she expect especially now she is seeing him more as a person that a target.
I love this series it is full of dark twists and turns and has you engrossed within the story from the first page. These books can be easily read as stand alone stories and only the smallest details are recurring through.
I love that each of the lady assassin are flawed and although have a hard exterior inside the vulnerability comes through and Malice has no expectation of finding love or feelings but she is drawn to her enemy and is thrown by these feelings she is not suppose to feel. Stone is a great character to compliment Raven and there chemistry comes off the page.
I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
Malice (Deviant Assassin Book 3) is not here to offer comfort. It’s a razor-edged dark romance that drags you straight into the mind of a man built from violence, trauma, and pure unapologetic danger—and then dares you to fall for him anyway.
Malice is the kind of antihero who doesn’t pretend to have a conscience. He kills, manipulates, destroys, and dominates without hesitation. But Alyndra Quinn threads just enough vulnerability through his brutality that, before you realize it, you’re rooting for the monster instead of the world trying to stop him.
The heroine isn’t a passive player, either. She’s strong, wary, and smart enough to know exactly what kind of man she’s getting tangled up with—and she still can’t stay away. Their connection isn’t sweet or safe; it’s heat, control, obsession, and the kind of chemistry that feels like a dangerous addiction. When they collide, it’s violent, raw, and impossibly magnetic.
The plot is fast, ruthless, and soaked in tension. Every chapter twists deeper into the underworld these characters inhabit, and the stakes don’t let up. This book knows it’s dark romance and fully commits: trauma, power struggles, moral decay, and intimate scenes that play on both vulnerability and dominance.
If you crave romance where the lines aren’t just blurred—they’re erased—Malice is exactly the kind of chaotic, morally gray, beautifully messed-up ride dark romance readers live for. Five stars for the danger, the obsession, and the absolute nerve of this couple.
Malice drops you straight back into the Deviant Assassin world – a place where morality is optional, violence is intimate, and love looks more like a loaded weapon than a soft landing. Book three leans heavily into what this series promises: ruthless, hyper-competent heroines and the dangerous, morally complex men orbiting them, all entangled in power plays, obsession, and razor-sharp edges. Even without a traditional “heroic” center, this story feels oddly addictive. This female assassin at the heart of Malice reads like a character built out of contradictions – capable of cruel choices, yet vulnerable in the quiet, stolen moments where cracks in her armor show. The relationship between our two main characters is less “enemies to lovers” and more “two predators circling the same wounded prey,” which fits within this dark landscape. This book has it all: lots of toxic dynamics, control, push-pull tension, tight pacing, and very little downtime between the scheming, blood, and emotionally charged confrontations, so it never really gives you a chance to catch your breath. What really stood out to me is how unflinching this series has been with triggers. Tackling violence, trauma, coercion, and morally dubious consent dynamics all thrown together to make a phenomenal read. If you are looking for a dark romance with morally grey (black?) romance with lethal, unapologetic heroines and their obsessive love interests, then this is the series for you!
Another gripping dark romantic thriller in this exciting series, featuring lethal heroines and morally grey heroes! Raven is a ruthless elite Umber operative who is trained to kill, never fails or lets herself feel. She definitely doesn’t fall for her assignments, until she has to protect the brilliant and brutal Stone Blackwell. He’s spent his life refusing his family’s criminal empire, but with his enemies closing in he needs protection from those in the underworld. Raven finds that Stone makes her question everything she was taught about control from Umber. He also sees the woman underneath the operative which Raven finds more dangerous than the enemy.
As Stone discovers the truth about his bloodline and betrayals are revealed, it’s Raven who he turns to. Soon Stone is not just another contract to Raven and she’s not just the woman keeping him alive. Once again I was fully immersed in the world of the deviant assassins. The descriptive narrative brings both the setting and characters vividly to life. The storyline and plot twists kept me hooked throughout, whilst the chemistry between Raven and Stone sizzled off the page. Although a standalone story I recommend reading the previous books in the series, as they will also keep you gripped!
This is the third installment in the Deviant Assassin Series and it plunges readers straight into a dark, volatile world of criminal power and vengeance. Continuing the series’ signature blend of dark romantic suspense and high-powered action, this story delivers an explosive enemies-to-lovers dynamic that is impossible to put down. The story follows Raven, an elite assassin who accepts a mission to protect the criminal empire heir, Stone Blackwell. Raven has been trained for twenty years for this exact moment—vengeance against the man connected to her parents' killers. However, the forced proximity and Stone's dark magnetism ignite an intense, consuming chemistry that threatens to derail her mission. Quinn excels at portraying the complex balance between duty and desire, forcing Raven and Stone into a morally ambiguous partnership forged in blood and desire. With family betrayals shattering Stone’s world and Raven grappling with everything she thought she knew, the plot is full of unexpected twists and deadly intrigue. If you are looking for a fast-paced, high-heat romantic thriller where the line between killer and partner is deliciously blurred, Malice delivers a gripping ride until the final, shocking conclusion.
This is the third book in the series but can be read as a stand alone. After reading this book if you haven't read the others, you will want to go and do that. This book is so good. I couldn't put it down and the words just seemed to fly off the pages. It is a dark romance and there is steam. It is so good. The book has so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming and left me turning page after page. I couldn't get enough. The book flows very easily. The author did an amazing job of using words to really build the world with the reader in mind. I was able to picture everything like I was watching movie. The events in the book takes the reader on a journey which I loved. It made me really want to read the other books in the series. I can also see how those books would build on things like every good series does. I can't wait to read more from this author. There is character development throughout the book with the main female character and it is amazing to read. I love a good strong female but one that isn't afraid to take risks and become stronger yet softer at the same time. This book nailed all of that.
This is the 3rd book in the Deviant Assassin series . Even though it is part of a series they can be read as standalones, however I feel once you step into this world you will want more. This is an action packed romance suspense filled with chemistry, danger, mystery, secrets and so much more. There are topics which maybe triggering for the reader so I advise reading the trigger warnings before starting this book.
In this book we are with Stone and Raven. Stone was captivated by Raven in the last book and now he will stop at nothing to make her his. When Stone hires Raven to protect him what Raven thinks is a normal protection job turns into so much more.
Raven is a cold hearted assassin. One thing she never does is fall for her clients that is until she meets Stone. Her job is to protect him, not fall for him, but what Stone starts to see past her tough exterior to the woman inside she can't help herself when she falls.
But it's not an easy ride to romance, with Stone facing danger and secrets coming to light which could threaten to destroy him can Raven protect him from danger while also protecting herself from the man she is supposed to protect?
This isn’t the first book I’ve read by the author. Malice is the third book in the Deviant Assassin Series. I read a book just recently by the author in the series and I loved it. This book is amazing and I highly recommend it. The author takes you into another world and you will love every minute of it. The Series can be read in order or they can be read as a standalone.
Raven is good at her job. She does this job thinking that once he's safe all will be done. She doesn't know that he wants her by his side. What will she do when it's time to leave? “Mr. Blackwell, Phoenix briefed me on the situation. I’ll need a full tour of the premises, access to all security schematics, and a list of all staff and regular visitors.”
Stone is being threatened so he takes matters into his own hands. There are two things happening at once with who he chooses. He gets the protection he needs and he also gets the girl he wants. “Oh, I think your credibility is well established, Raven. The whispers about you… they’re more than whispers, aren’t they? They’re warnings.”
Malice (Deviant Assassin) by Alyndra Quinn. This is book three in the Deviant Assassin series and they can be read as stand alone's. Be sure and check the trigger warnings because they are there. Another dark, mysterious thriller that will keep you turning pages late in the night. It's the story of Raven who is a deadly Elite Umber Operative who is trained to kill and never falls for anyone and never misses her target. Raven never falls for any of her assignments until she meets Stone. Stone has spent his entire life running from his families criminal background and when he finally needs protection he calls on Elite. Stone makes Raven question everything, her job, her life, her heart. When Stone starts to see Raven as a woman and not an assassin she can't handle it. Will he be able to crack through her tough exterior. Raven is smitten with Stone but knows better than to act on it but he just keeps pulling her in. On top of all the feelings they have to stay alive to make any chance of a romance possible. This is such a good series. I can't wait for the next book!
This is the third book in this series which is just as great as the previous books. I highly suggest reading the previous two books to help your enhancement of this author and series. This is also an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up. The creative characters are written with a lot of heart and soul and they pop off the pages. This is a story of Raven and Stone. Raven is a contract killer and her next assignment is Stone. Stone is smart but dangerous and he sees right through Raven’s tough skin. What happens is something you don’t want to miss. I loved both of these characters and what they brought to the story. I enjoyed watching their chemistry and attraction is off the charts. They are strong, connectable and made the story easy to read. There is great growth of the plot throughout which makes it hard to put down. I look forward to seeing what is next for this author. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.
Malice is the third book in the Deviant Assassins series by Alyndra Quinn and Jules Hunter. It is a steamy, romantic suspense with action, drama, danger, mystery, secrets, high stakes, tension, angst, adventure, chemistry, spice, and darker tones/elements (check the trigger warnings before diving in if you concerns). Raven and Stone’s story builds on the foundations laid by the first two books, and this instalment focuses on our MC’s ‘adventure’ while also continuing to explore the razor-edged lives of formidable female assassins whose intelligence, skill, and complex loyalties drive the series forward. But don’t worry, this book can be read as a standalone if you wanted – but be prepared as you might just find you develop an appetite for more, so you might want to get your ‘one-click’ finger primed to go in search of more. Happy Reading…
There was a lot packed into this book and I'm not sure where to start.
Raven has a tragic background, she loses her parents at a very young age and is raised by a man who teaches her how to take care of herself which leads her to her job with Umber. There is a lot more to her story which we find out later.
Stone is the son of Evander Blackwell, Evander is heading of the family business which is far from above the board. Evander isn't a good man and Stone has done everything possible to distance himself and be a legitimate businessman.
Stone and Raven are thrown together for business reasons but it ends up being so much more.
I have been fortunate enough to have read Ms. Quinn quite a bit over the last few years. She can write the spice but does an amazing job with keeping the reader interested in the story.
This author has become one of my favorites and definitely an instant buy! This entire series feels like a late-night text from a friend saying, “Okay but don’t say I didn’t warn you.” It leans hard into dark, twisty chaos, and honestly, that’s half the appeal. Each book follows fierce, morally messy female assassins who are smart, ruthless, and way more human than they want to admit. The men circling them are just as dangerous and questionable, which keeps every interaction buzzing with tension. I loved that the books are stand-alone but still feel connected by the same shadowy, unhinged energy. The author clearly knows exactly how far they’re pushing the line, and they push it with confidence. It’s violent, intense, and absolutely not trying to be polite about it. If you’re the kind of reader who checks trigger warnings and thinks “perfect,” this series might be your next obsession.
I absolutely love this series! This is book 3 to the Deviant Assassin Series. It is a dark dark romance that will suck you in and take your soul! It is about a man who is dangerous, violent, has trama, but you still cant help but fall head over heels for him! He is a man that basically has not conscience and will do what ever it takes without thought. He kills, destroys anything and manipulates to get what he wants. He is very dominant! Even tho he has a brutal trama filled past, the author shows his caring vulnerable side as well. The female character is very strong and smart as well and seems to know what trouble she is getting into and falls for it anyway! The way these two are drawn to each other is addicting and so raw! You can feel the love and tension! This is the perfect dark romance series in my opinion it has the best of everything you would want in dark romance!
Malice has a genuinely compelling backstory with a slow-building love arc wrapped in a twist of darkness. I went into it expecting more of a smut-heavy theme, and while there was definitely room for that to be explored further, I still really enjoyed the storyline overall.
There were a few phrases that felt overused—particularly the word “honest”—and early on there were several repeated descriptions about cold air replacing warmth. Because of that, the writing style felt a bit different for me personally, but not in a way that took away from the experience.
Overall, it’s a great book with strong main characters, an engaging plot, and a dark, gripping vibe that kept me invested from start to finish.
This is the third book in this series and can be read as a standalone but I think you would have a better reading experience if you read the series in order. This book is full of action, danger, betrayal, romance, suspense, and great characters. I was pulled into the story from the beginning and kept turning pages needing to know what was going to happen next. I don't want to give anything away but I will say that this story has a little bit of everything I like in a good story. I enjoyed how I found myself on the edge of my seat at times while reading. This was a pretty quick read for me since I didn't want to put it down. The author's writing style was easy to follow. I recommend this book
5 Stars Malice (Deviant Assassin Book 3) By Jules Hunter and Alyndra Quinn
Malice is the third book in the Deviant Assassin’s Series and is a Dark Suspenseful Romance that once you start reading there’s no stopping until you’ve finished. There’s plenty of drama, action, suspense, romance secrets, adventure and so much more. The characters are fully developed, raw and complex. They make the story come to life. Although this book can be read as standalone I highly recommend reading this series in order as each book is just as good as the last. Get ready for a high adrenaline adventure. Where the stakes are high and you never know what might happen. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.
Alyndra Quinn is an author that has easily become one of my favourite go-to authors, and this series is also one that tops the list! I was so excited to start reading the next installment and I can honestly say it did not disappoint. The collaboration between these two authors is fantastic. I love the way their writing style just blends together so effortlessly and they both clearly add so much to the story. As with the other books in the series, I loved the characters and the storyline in this book. They pulled me in right from the start and kept my interest through to the end. I was completely hooked as soon as I started reading! This was another fantastic book and I am looking forward to reading more from this series in the future.
I’m obsessed with this series, and Malice just locked that in even deeper. Alyndra Quinn knows exactly how to keep me coming back for more — the world she’s building gets darker, twistier, and even more addictive with every chapter. And this book? It delivers everything I wanted and then some.
The stakes are high in this one and this story keeps you guessing, keeps you tense, and keeps you flipping pages long after you should’ve gone to bed. Some answers come quick, others drag you through the dark right along with the characters — and I loved every second of it.
Whether you’ve been following the series or you’re jumping in fresh, Malice stands strong and delivers. Until the next book drops, this one is absolutely worth diving into.
Stone comes from a prominent crime family but unlike them he follows the rules. He is being pressured more and more to join the family business and now needs not only to protect himself but his friends. Raven is part of the Umber group that protects anyone that hires them. This is how she and Stone came to meet. At first she sees Stone as a target since he is part of the family responsible for the death of her parents. The more time she spends with him, the more she sees how different he is from his family and starts seeing him as a person. Will she continue to protect him or will revenge win her over in the end? Stone and Raven have chemistry that jumps from the pages. Although this can be read as a standalone I highly suggest reading the other books in this series.
This is the 3rd installment in the Deviant Assassin series. This was by far my favorite of the series (and you can definitely read them as standalones). I absolutely loved Raven and Stone's relationship and their character development both individually and together. Quinn and Hunter knew what they were doing when they wrote these two characters. I will say that there were times when the story was literally repetitive and there were some minor plot holes, but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you are looking for a deadly FMC and a morally grey MMC who are both very much touch them and die, then this is the book for you.
Malice by Alondra Quinn and Jules Hunter js the third book in the deviant assassin series. We follow Raven the assassin out to destroy the legacy of the man who murdered her family and Stone the heir apparent to his father’s criminal empire. Raven becomes Stone’s obsession and Stone becomes Raven’s client. Her job is to keep him alive and he plans to make her his. This intriguing story of murder and betrayal just keeps the twists turning. Fast paced page turning action. I will have to go back and read the previous two stories in this series since the characters appear in this story and they caught my attention quickly.
This is one of those dark, twisty assassin romances that grabs you from page one and refuses to let go. I went in expecting action and spice, but I wasn’t ready for how addicting this world would be. Alyndra Quinn blends violence, tension, and emotion in a way that feels sharp and cinematic. I loved the morally gray atmosphere: secret agendas, messy loyalties, and that constant edge-of-danger feeling that keeps you turning pages. It’s definitely dark, but never so chaotic that it loses the emotional core. And their chemistry has this slow-burn intensity that hits hard when it finally snaps. Can't wait to read more from this author!
Well yet another great book in this series. I really enjoy how thecauthor is able to twist and turn the story. There is a great mix of drama, intrigue and romance. The best thing about this is that it kept me hooked and wanting more. The story was a great forward from the previous book in this series and kept me glued to see how tge story will unfold. I really ljje that this series is getting a bit more drama and the definitely air of who is evil and how it will unfold has me eager for the next. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Every book just gets better and better, darker and darker. I am here for it!
This is book 3 and while it can be read as a standalone it really should be read in order so you understand and appreciate the Deviant Assassins and their relationships, their characteristics and their training and programming.
The writing in this series has kept me turning every page for every book. Book three is no different. This book is not safe for work and has triggers that may cause issues for some readers.
Looking forward to Book 4 and what twisted fun comes next!
This story has trigger warnings. I enjoyed this book, Alot. The tingle of suspense is constant. Lots of action, dark and full of twist. Just how I like them!
Raven and Stone are amazing by themselves but put them together and the fire, tension of fight or claim each other is on another level. Well written and keeps you engaged and flipping through the pages!
I am excited that this book is a part of a series and I look forward to reading more by this author.
