One of the best Wattpad books I've ever read.

[image error]Feels photo: Feels tumblr_mcdztoshBD1qct27p.gif"

From its beautifully written quotes and style, to its simple, yet lovable characters.
I love how the ending doesn't conflict with the character development, I mean all this time we've seen Kyla and Seth at their best and their worst moments, and made them develop from the cliche Wattpad girl and guy, to the realistic version of what it means to love and to let go. It blew my mind how the author deconstructed every single Wattpad book I've read.

[image error]Feels photo: Feels doc11029765_282823336_zpsc6f800d5.gif"

Did I mention I ship them so HARD

Beautiful, the only reason why I gave it 4 stars was because I felt like the supporting characters could have been more developed, but aside from that, I had no regrets reading this book.

EDIT 3/11/2016 : I JUST READ THE NEW STORY FROM SETH"S POV AND IT MADE ME FEEL THINGS!

-and then the answer happened , I am now convinced that Sam Madison is some kind of writing genie and this story made 6 stars for me for that really vague ending, but reading the author's version actually made me cry-If they could make this a movie-I would die happy, but I know that's far from happening haha.

but happy endings are nothing but nostalgia for the present
I honestly couldn't read the ending; it was all too much.
It's been a while since I've last felt such intense feelings, and let me just say, I'm not the kind of person who quits- especially reading books. But this one hit me so damn hard. I thought it was going to be another cliche wattpad novel but no. God knows it wasn't.
I got the overall outcome of the book. So the message was delivered... Straight to my friggin broken heart.
Not usually so melodramatic, but you know what they say; desperate times...

The Heartbroken Heartbreaker is one of popular wattpad stories that I haven't gave it a chance to read it until the end. LoL.

This story has been in my library since two years ago, but I stuck in chapter 14. I liked the story, so far.

And last year, one of Indonesia Publisher translate this amazing story. So, here I am. I tried to read it until the end, even though I knew there will be a lot of differences between wattpad version and the book.

I like the whole of this story. The characters, plot, and topic. This book made me so emotional.

So fuckin' emotional.

While read it, I laughed, smiled, annoyed, also—almost—cried.

I didn't expect that 'thing' will come like tsunami. Which the waves just swipe everything up without making difference.

Oh, I love the characters so much.

I usually ship YA couple from books, if I really head over heels the story. And...

Who doesn't like Kyla and Seth?

Even though the desc said Seth is this, Seth is that, I didn't even think he is a devilishly handsome that anyone can't resist. The thing I believed that anyone couldn't resist is his personality.

Well, in this story he's quite mysterious. Just Kyla felt, the more you dive in the story, the more you will know the characters. And, I found Seth is really good personality and charming.

I've said that I almost cried, right? It's true.

Shit.

The Heartbroken Heartbreaker has made me a The Heartbroken Reader.😭😭

I don't care what will happen in the future with people in this book—especially, the OTP—

Updated Review

Please don't get bored of my review guys. I know, but I accidentally deleted my review and I just re-read it in June so I'm gonna review, both the original version and the new version.

To be honest, I prefer the original version. Because it that version was what making me fall in love with Kyla and Seth. They're just so sweet, and Seth is not a problematic kid. He's just broken inside and all his best friends know that.

Also, I have lots of favorite scene in the original version. The one where Kyla saw his mom and a guy dating in the park and she ran away to a music store (which connected to the story Chance Encounters, it was the store Reed and Austin visited during their search of Tori) and asked Seth to pick her up. And Seth did and he let her stayed at his house. And they both slept in his sister's room, which in the new version they didn't (they slept on the couch). And lots, lots, lots things.

The new version was more realistic though, Kyla and Seth met at a class and Seth borrowed her pen and then he bothered her. And vice versa.

Sam changed the first half of the book and removed it completely from this earth (well, not really. She must still have it on her laptop). Well, I like both version. And I like Seth and Kyla a lot. They're just meant to be, but the thing is, Sam tend to be realistic so she didn't make them end up together. but they're good friends. Oh, I hate how Sam pictured their ending where Seth and Kyla entered the amusement park linking their pinky fingers and that's it. I like thinking its their reconciliation and they're dating for real. Oh, but Sam is Sam, she's a heartbreaker and she likes breaking our hearts.

P.S the book is now available on bookstore, well at least in the Philippines. If you want to buy it, you can check her Wattpad profile, there's a link where we can buy it online :)

Like most of the books I read lately, I wasn't sure whether to put five or four stars, and if I should add the book to my favorites list or not. But anyway, I decided this deserved five stars and it should be on my favorites list.

I started reading this maybe weeks (or has that been already more than a month..?) after graduation. That was the time when I was just looking up books and then reading and reading the whole day. (That was fun and lovely). I was so distressed to find that this book wasn't finished. But anyway, when Sam updated, I was so ecstatic because I just wanted Seth and Kyla to get together.

To cut things short, I wanted more. I wanted more of Seth and Kyla, because it felt like ever since Kyla admitted her feelings, there weren't lots of Seth-Kyla anymore. But yeah. That was a shallow point.

Still, what I loved about this book is the last chapter and the epilogue. The last chapter is practically the end of the book, the part where everything becomes okay. On that last part, Seth and Kyla didn't get together. What happened was that Kyla felt okay - she was okay with what happened with her and Cedric, and she was okay with what happened with her and Seth. To me that meant that she was really okay, like she was sad she wasn't with Seth but at least she was happy with her current state in life.

The epilogue wasn't enough, because I was hoping that her and Seth could finally be really together, but Sam left her readers hanging. Also, it was stated in her note that the readers get to decide if they want Seth and Kyla together or if they don't get back together. If I was the writer, I would prefer them to not be together but I wanted Kyla and Seth to be together so there. haha ok there

(This is one of my favorite wattpad books, but Started With A Lie is still on top of the list ;))

Bahkan suka banget menuju akhir cerita.

3.5 bintang~

Kayaknya bakal jual buku ini ha ha ha.

Kyla got dumped by her boyfriend Cedric for no apparent reason other than the 'it's complicated' bullshit. To make matters worse, she got into a fight with her bestfriend Hail, plus her mother doesn't seem to care about her anymore. Feeling hurt, broken and alone, Kyla decided to be strong and change herself. And change came with a person named Seth Everett, and his idea to get revenge by dating him.

I was supposed to go to the mall earlier but after reading the beautiful 'author's note', I was hooked so I decided to postpone my plan and sit on my comfy chair and began reading! I have read numerous of books but I rarely read the author's note, just the first line or something. XD

Anyways.

The Heartbroken - I love the development of Kyla's character. From a whiny bitchy girl to a mature, intelligent woman. Like Seth, I like how she could see past the bad side of a person. I love how she finally moved on and dealt with her past and became a much more splendid person than she was. Wish I could read Kyla's entry Empty Jars for that writing contest. The excerpt was beautiful.

The Heartbreaker - There is more to his playful smile than meets the eye. And damn you Seth for making me love you *insert fangirl screams* His character is what I love the most in the book. His witty banter with Kyla made me laughed a lot that my Mom probably thought I was getting delusional of some sort.

This book was so fucking captivating! It really showed the struggles and fears of a person who got his / her heart broken. And after knowing why the characters acted the way they did (poor, dear Cedric) you just couldn't help but wish they were there next to you and give them a hug. It was very realistic that anyone could relate to it. Shockingly, I love how the story ended. The open-ending gives a much more promising possibilities between the two characters and it's up to the reader to imagine what will happen next.

Like what Kyla wrote to Seth: "It's not about The End, because The End is never the end..."

And sooo.. I am gonna read this book once again and pile up my favorite quotes. So will probably edit this again tomorrow. And will probably look for this book tomorrow at the mall. I need to have this book. XD

It's been so long since I've read a wattpad book that's actually good with flawed characters (that are aware and try to fix their flaws as much as they can) and with interesting and not flat characters (I loved all of them) that I just have to give this book 4 stars. It's published under Pop Fiction and I am hunting a physical copy once quarantine is over.

ACTUAL REVIEW:

My oh my, I loved the cast of characters. THE FACT THAT THERE WAS CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT IN THIS BOOK WAS ENOUGH TO BLOW ME AWAY CONSIDEIRNG I WAS LOOKING FOR TRASHY SHIT TO READ BUT I ENDED UP LOVING THIS, ehem, our main character Kyla changes the most throughout this whole story from being judgmental and immature to letting her guard down and actually having an open-mind. I liked how everyone, even the side characters, felt so real. I adore the friend group in this :(( the friendship here was one of the best and the message that this book wants to give is just plain beautiful. I kind of predicted some of the things along the way (cause duh) but that didn't stop me from laughing out loud, smiling hard and screaming my head off out of frustration.

This book makes me have feel strong emotions towards the story, and that's what I find in a book and it did me good.

It did start out very cliche and I found myself rolling my eyes a lot when trying to get in to, but it was like a trap to make you think that way because although the story has been done many times, the writing and the execution was what made stand out from the others.

I loved Seth and Cedric and their relationship with Kyla and how they handled the problems they came along the way and how they tried to make up for it. I liked how some of the characters fucked-up but that's part of life! And they showed that well.

It did have some things that bothered me like being repetitive and a bit confusing at times but I enjoyed this overall :") I'm glad I picked it up when I was trying to cheer myself up, letting it change my expectations completely and giving me a wonderful story.

*If Sam Madison reads this review, *

Dear Sam,
This was one book that made me cry my eyes out. I decided to take a break, get calm. but I still couldn't stop my tears. I was in my classroom when I read this. My bench mates were like...*looking inside the phone for past an hour... closes the phone... face palms and sobs*
the last few chapters literally broke my heart into unidentifiable pieces.
At one moment It felt like everything was just not supposed to happen this way, the next moment it felt that everything happened for good, and then... He left.
But then the Epilogue was everything... I had bundles of hope while I stood halfway through the page... but then..
I found myself fighting back with tears. I keep telling myself that kyla and seth... Maybe he....OKAY NO SPOILERS.. I really really loved this story and will be surely one of my everytime favorites ...
But it still hurts me where you stopped .. I really wanted to hear that from you dear Author..🌻
I have high hopes and requests for a second part, or a one shot.

Ladies and Gentlemen, THIS BOOK IS GOLD.

It's not often that you find a book that strikes something in you, especially on Wattpad. But this book had me laughing, crying and completely relating to some of the things Kyla said or did. There were certain points of it that were so hard to read because it reminded me so much of myself. To say I was shocked is an understatement. For a book with not much credit on wattpad, it was absolutely amazing.

Urusan mutual understanding ini mengingatkan saya pada kisah Lily and her anonymous pen pal di buku P. S. I Like You karya Kasie West.

Ohmygoodness. It had been a really long while since i started sobbing over some godforsaken fictional characters. I mean, i was constantly asking myself/the author/ the world/ fate/ snowflake : WHY?!
When Seth left i felt my heart break, it was precisely like: "You left in peace.. left me in pieces."
I don't know what to do with my life anymore. Wanna get depressed? Read this book. Wanna feel the character development? Read this book. Wanna swoon ? Read this book. Wanna cry? Read this book. Wanna be thankful/grateful ? Read this book. Just read it.

Wow that was emotional. It honestly was one of the best books I’ve read in a while. Half of it I kinda spent crying my eyes out on my bed but it was kinda nice because I usually don’t cry when I read books. I mean I usually try not to read sad books but like all the sad parts happened all at once. It looked like a perfectly happy book when I saw it and started reading it. Like the beginning was so normal and happy and then like halfway through the tears just started coming.
I actually really liked this book because it didn’t end at all like other books do. It was just so much more real. I’m a little mad that the epilogue ended the way it did with not revealing completely what happened to their relationship but that’s what made it more interesting. I was also kinda really mad that it took them so long to admit their feelings for each other but I feel like if they did earlier then it would have ruined the book. I just can’t believe how dumb I thought Cedric was at the beginning and then when you figure out why he broke up with her you just feel guilty which just makes you cry even harder😂 Also I just really think the cover is super cute and it’s kinda what made me want to read this but DON’T LET THE COVER FOOL YOU

So I was in a bad mood and I was looking for a book that I could hate that was bearable enough for me to read all the way through. Essentially, something to kill time and distract me from the knowledge that I didn’t have an actual book to read. So The Heartbroken Heartbreaker seemed like the natural choice. It is about Kyla Evans, a teenage girl who’s dating her ex-boyfriend (Cedric)’s enemy (Seth) to get revenge and make him jealous.

From this premise, I went into this story expecting the usual problems I find in teen/YA stories: shallow relationships, superficial values, stereotyped and 2-dimensional characters, immature decisions, teenage angst without justifiable reason, teenage stupidity (Don't shoot me! I'm 16 and I know as well as anyone else how stupid teenagers can be), and of course, insta-love

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was completely wrong.

The Relationships were:< /u>
1. Real. There was depth to the (former) romance between Cedric and Kyla and substance to the foundation of the new relationship developing between Kyla and Seth. It was a romance that was realistically woven.

2. Complex. The characters were connected in more ways than one, but not so much that there were too many “twists” or that it started to sound like a conspiracy theory. They had history. There are reasons for their wounds, like the (kind-of-sort-of) ex-girlfriend, father who died from cancer, and walk-out parents. These characters had lives outside of the story.

3. Justified. Cedric and Seth didn’t hate each other for no reason. There were legitimate reasons for all three of the characters to be angry with their parents (though some reasons were better than others). Some of their reasons were immature, but totally justified for two boys in that situation. I can’t say that I would have taken the higher road if I was either of them.

4. Believable. The conversations in the book are utterly hilarious. I stayed up until 4 in the morning to finish this book and I was laughing my head off almost the entire time. It was balanced between shameless flirting, good-natured teasing, pointless arguments, and philosophical discussions. In other words, how normal teenagers talk. They’re never stupid ALL the time or INTELLIGENT all the time. There is depth here.

The Characters were
1. Human. Even though Seth and his friends are obviously the popular kids at school, they weren’t stereotyped into being judgmental, shallow, or stupid. They were funny, likable, and lively. No cardboard cut-outs here.

2. Flawed. Ok, so I lied a bit. There was a little bit of immaturity, mainly on Kyla’s part. At the beginning of the story, she’s utterly pathetic: she makes out with random strangers around Cedric, but only when he’s around; she’s mad at everyone and quick to judge. But she grows so much in the course of the book. We can watch her transition from being a petty teenage girl to a mature young woman.

3. Beautifully broken. They did despicable things, but once you found out what their motives were, your heart just broke and all you wanted to do was crawl into the story and piece them back together.

The Values were:
1. Unexpectedly deep. I found myself so incredibly, profoundly touched beyond words.

2. Admirable and respectable. Kyla learns to stand on her own and find meaning and purpose in life beyond getting back at Cedric. And it addresses the fact that there’s no such thing as a happy ending. There’s always something after the last page. Which is a good segue into my warning for this book: There is no real closure in this book. Admittedly, that’s my favorite part of this book (though it killed me). But I know that there will be many who hate this. Most people don’t want a book to end with so many loose ends unless there is going to be a sequel. But this is life and I thought that it was beautifully executed. We read the last page with the knowledge that Kyla had finally learned how to live with tragedy and heartbreak. She had finally learned how to move on, and that’s good enough for me.

All in all , definitely worth it and recommended for age appropriate audiences. There’s a lot to learn here and even if you hate the lack of closure, read it anyway because, frankly, you need to learn how to deal with it. In real life, you’re probably not going to see how everything fits together before you’re dead. You’re going to have to live with dozens, if not hundreds of loose ends.

It really only has two notable flaws, and one was completely expected. The first, and expected one, was that it was very rough. As with almost all books on Wattpad, the story is first draft and mostly unedited. Expect typos, but few that will impair your understanding of the story. Second, metaphors galore. It’s almost incoherent and scatterbrained. But not enough to significantly detract from the story. If it bugs you, just skim past the passages of introspection.

NOW GO READ IT.

"When you get your heart broken, other people can help you pick the pieces up, but only you can glue the pieces back together."

A good book, whatever genre it may be- fiction or non fiction, fantasy or contemporary, sci-fi or mystery-, will never fail to resonate with you and to leave you thinking about the characters, the story, and the message it holds. This is the reason why I fell in love with this book right off the bat. It was beautifully emotional and real and it made me feel so much- happiness, sadness, anger, confusion, frustration. The writing style was poetic and perfectly written. The main characters were well-crafted and their developments touched my heart in more ways than one.

"Moving on is not forgetting- moving on is being able to remember without feeling awful about it."

My only complaint, to be honest, is that the side characters were literally just there for the heck of it. Aside from Alyssa, the others were ushered to the sidelines and were never given a chance to be in the spotlight. Which was quite disappointing because these characters seemed interesting and they could've been interesting if the author hadn't left them out.

"Some people write to make something ugly beautiful, some write to leave a part of themselves to be remembered, some write to give words soul and meaning, and some write to exist in non-existence."

But overall, this was a book that not only entertained me but also made me feel a shitton of emotions and left me with an endless flowing river of thoughts.

Fucking hell (sorry for the swearing) - as much as I wanted the ending to be good altogether and let them have a happy ending I realised that this book is honestly one of the best Wattpad books I've ever read. First of all, it's not cliche and it's all about reality and not the idealistic plot line we see in such cliche novels on Wattpad. Kyla and Seth are honestly well-written characters and their past is what makes them for who they are in the novel. I commend the author for the well written and beautifully crafted material in the novel. It's something I wish I could see more in other teenage novels as well. Good read and had to give it a 4 stars because it gave me some justice and closed another chapter on the both of them. Absolute great read!

It wasn’t my plan to write a review on this. I’ve got various reasons to not review this book, but the most important would be my incorrigible desire of not wanting anyone else to read this book.

I know,I could sit for ages thinking about expressing my feelings for this book, but never can I ever give justice to neither to my feelings and nor the book.

All I wish is, no one should ever discover this book (as to what I think is it belongs to me, is written for me, and it’s mine!!).

P.S. No offense to the author!

First off, I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK. So much.

Kyla is a character I identify with and her development throughout the book is so tremendous that at some point it overwhelms me.

The Male lead(s) are strong and supportive but they never feel unrealistic. They are so positive and radiant but they never overshadow Kyla in anyway.

Sam Madison just has a way with words. I l fell in love with this book and I know that I will always be in love with it.

Heartbreak, moving on, falling on love, another heartbreak and all those bittersweet shattering broken moments in between. One of the most emotional stories I've read so far in Wattpad. So much in love with the plot.

No hay nada que me guste más que un libro con una enseñanza, and duuuude did I like this one.

Aproximadamente hace siete meses mi (primer) novio cortó conmigo.

Me encantó Kyra y me encantó Seth y me encantó Cedric y me encantó Alyssa.

Me molestó mucho lo parecido que era a To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before en muchos casos.

Dioooos me volvieron loca mal.

ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇɴᴅ, ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ʜɪᴍ ᴡʜᴏ ʜᴀᴅ ʙᴇᴄᴏᴍᴇ ᴍʏ ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ.” ME HACE LLORAR CADA. PUTA. VEZ.

Excuse my 1st time ever writing review on goodread.
But i couldn't help it. I seriously need to review on this one.
The heartbroken heartbreaker. I takes too long to read this book bcos i expect it would be cliche (yeah judging from the synopsis)
But, i seriously saying it is it.
One of the best romance book i've read so far on wattpad. (Of course including storm & silence/ cellphone swap/ TBBTTB/ n many more)
THH is a must read novel.
Its not written in a rush kind of style.. its take a lot of patient, and explanation, and flashback and it caused readers to have emotional roller coaster over and over plus heart damaged.
Don't expect to find happiness and colorful love stories like any other stories.
Its a definition of damage beyond repair. But, its NOT the hurt that the writer focusing on, but the way one can cope n overcome it by having someone to help u learn and to pick pieces of ur heart.
In fact, i can assure at the end of the story, everyone will know exactly the feels of being heartbroken without having heartred to any of the characters.

Indeed its really really BEAUTIFUL beyond all the heart wrenching events, mistakes and each of the unspeakable, besides all the metaphor, and the definition of LIFE.

Here is some of the beautiful words u will find in there:

'I realize that the hardest part of letting go is having to watch something get carried away by the wind.
You hold it in your grasp, knowing its the last time you ever will, and you open your hand and watch it leave without the slightest idea as to where it might land.'

'What i felt was a different kind of ache that was brought by the thought of losing something that had been a vital part of your life; like outgrowing your favorite blanket and you know you can't kept it anymore but you can't let it go. You can't.
But i should. I had to.'

'His words were careful and deliberate, like he was setting something heavy on a glass table, and he was afraid the weight might break it'

Beautiful indeed is not it?

Kamu boleh kehilangan, kamu boleh patah hati dan belum bisa move on, but that doesn't mean you won't recover and find new love. Kamu bisa pisah sama seseorang, but if both of you are destined to be together, then you'll find each other again.

the only book ever written. the only book i have ever read. i have a degree in english literature and idk if any book i read had as much of an impact on me as this one did (maybe perks/the bell jar but i read that afterwards sooo)

i read this book for the first time seven years ago back in my wattpad days in highschool, and i just re-discovered it (an actual copy) and it hurts just the same. perhaps more considering i knew what was coming and i still CRIED. i understand that as a wattpad book, it had to be DRAMATIC and fast-paced but please i was devastated. the last 75 pages didn't let me BREATHE

ugh. seth. kyla. we COULD HAVE WORKED IT OUT. WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL. fuck sarah i don't even know her. what the fuck did that bitch do that had him so wound up like this. cedric is whatever tbh i never cared much for him. also wtf nicole ?? WHY DID YOU LEAVE AND GO MAKE OUT WITH HER?? idc that he realized it meant nothing but ummm why would we do that...I UNDERSTAND HE WAS ANGRY BUT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ANGRY AND GO ON THAT WALK AND REALIZE EVEN KISSING ANYONE ELSE MADE HIM SICK.

next. umm moving to new york?? WHY. why. why. why. the ambiguous ending HAUNTED me for years. i HATE ambigious endings. i gaslit myself into thinking they found themselves back together. but, i just found out she revealed the ending on her ask fm. AND WHAT DO I LEARN? THEY NEVER END UP TOGETHER. "they stay friends." ok well i don't want them as JUST FRIENDS. and also warren and alyssa? what happened there. i find out that he brought a date and she was upset and then nothing? no closure. no one wants me to be happy. i have no peace.

i know the author said it's because they were toxic and blah blah blah but i mean why couldn't that mean they work it out eventually ....ughhhhhh.

anyways, five stars because this fundamentally changed my life. it set the standard for all romance novels in my entire life. seth everett was my blueprint. the scene of them kissing at the party and warren saying that he's WHIPPED literally is ingrained in my dna. it is the standard. idk what to say i'm so upset and i probably cried more this time than first reading it because i knew their downfall was coming. why why why

Mengenai kekurangan, ending-nya menurutku terburu-buru. Tapi it's okay, overall, aku suka buku ini.

Pretty much one of the best Wattpad books I’ve ever read. The author somehow managed to keep the humor throughout the story yet still offer so many life lessons we can take from Kyla, Seth, and Cedric. My favorite quote will always be this one:

You hold its wings between your thumb and index finger and you can feel them slightly buzzing as the dragonfly attempts to fly. You bring it closer to you and watch it—you take not of every color, every curve, every little detail on its frail little body—and wish that you would never have to let go of something so beautiful.

But rarely in our lives do we ever get what we wish for and you know you can’t hold on forever, because sometimes, it’s holding on that makes us weak.

So you pry your fingers apart.

For a second, the dragonfly stays still. And then its wispy wings buzz to life. It flies and you watch is rise, higher and higher, farther and farther, until you can’t see it anymore.

You squint into the sunlight, your eyes narrowing to tiny slits, but your lips tug into a smile.
