Eugenie Markham is a freelance shaman, guarding our world from the invasion of Otherworldly creatures. Eugenie has decided to cross into the Otherworld alone to rescue Jasmine a girl no else will. Entering one of the most dangerous dimensions alone isn't easy or safe but no one ever said being a hero was. Unfortunately for Eugenie, she will come face to face with her past and learn truths she would have preferred were left buried.
Scorpio Richelle Mead is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of urban fantasy books for both adults and teens. Originally from Michigan, Richelle now lives in Seattle, Washington where she works on her three series full-time: Georgina Kincaid, Dark Swan, and Vampire Academy.
A life-long reader, Richelle has always loved mythology and folklore. When she can actually tear herself away from books (either reading or writing them), she enjoys bad reality TV, traveling, trying interesting cocktails, and shopping for dresses. She's a self-professed coffee addict and has a passion for all things wacky and humorous.
Issue 3 of Dark Swan, Storm Born finds Eugenie making preparations to travel over into Otherworld to rescue a young human girl kidnapped by Aeson, one of several evil King’s that rule the Gentry (fae folk).
Otherworld is a dangerous place and Eugenie wisely decides to bring along some backup in the form of her minions; Volusian, Nandi and Finn. Again there is eye catching artwork and sarcastic humor, especially when Eugenie interacts with Volusian an enslaved damned soul who wants her dead but is forced to do her bidding. When the motley crew crosses over into Otherworld you instantly know it. Eugenie’s minions all take their true form and the scenery changes into a similar but decidedly different landscape. Adventure ensues, blood splatters the pages and King Dorian makes an appearance. Apparently the gentry are ruled by many a horny King but you won’t find me complaining if they’re all as fetching as this Dorian.
Everything starts coming together in this volume as King Dorian fills in a few of the blanks that had me scratching my head in the previous issues. I have to say this one is my favorite of the three I’ve read. It’s violent, sexy and ends on another cliff hanger that has me anxiously awaiting the next volume in the series.
I love this graphic novel because it is funny, sexy and action-packed. In my reviews of Issue #1 & #2 I mentioned all the smexy men, and guess what? We meet yet another one! He is one of the Gentry, did I mention my weakness for Fae? . And as always the artwork colors pop and the facial expressions and body language speak volumes.
Incentive cover This issue picks up where the last one left off, instead of going into a flashback or skipping forward. Eugenie has summoned up the three quirky spirits she has bound to her. She needs to go into the ‘Otherworld’ in her flesh body and wants their help to find King Aeson, a Gentry King, who has kidnapped a young girl from the mortal world.
The three spirits are a funny bunch; Volusian is a powerful, but evil spirit that often tells Eugenie he is going to kill her as soon as he can break free from her. Nandi is a Zulu woman who was killed for being a witch and Eugenie has promised to give her peace after three years of service. Understandably, Nandi is full of gloom and doom. A real Debbie Downer . And then there is Finn, a pixie-looking man who isn’t bound to Eugenie like the others, he just likes to hang around.
Eugenie and her team head into the ‘Otherworld’ to find King Dorian (here is the smexy man I mentioned earlier). He is King Aeson’s enemy and Eugenie hopes he will help them rescue the mortal girl out of spite, if nothing else. King Dorian is both arrogant and flirty with long red hair and looks smokin' in his Puss in Boots get up. He can’t help Eugenie directly, but gives her a guide to lead her to Aeson’s castle. When Eugenie and her team arrive at Aeson's there is an action packed bloody fight because Eugenie and company have been lured into a trap.
Action-packed, snark, smexy men and evil doers with pictures (did I mention smexy men?). This comic is all that and a bag of chips! Sea Lion Books was kind enough to provide the first 6 pages of Issue #3 for your pleasure! You can see 6 pages of Issue #2 here.
The comics keep getting better. In this one you get to meet Valusion, Nandi and Finn. These are Eugenies "helpers". Finn is not what I imagined but the other 2 are dead on. You also get to cross over and the other world comes alive. You get to meet King Dorian which is my ABSOLUTE favorite character. I have been smitten with him from the get go and was so delighted to see him brought to life. I can't wait for Comic #4. Even though I know what is going to happen next these are truly enjoyable.
The cloud of unanswered questions grows bigger in Issue #3 of the Storm Born Series. Eugenie Markham AKA Odile marches her fine redheaded self right into the otherworld, a dangerous place where peeps are up to no good and horny as hell. Something I have yet to discern. What is it that makes these people so ready for the tango? I mean sure, they’re men, but still. And why is it that they all seem to want Eugenie? I think I may have discovered the secret or at least part of the secret, of why exactly everyone wants her. But I can’t tell you…because it’s a secret. And besides, what if I am wrong? (Did I mention that I am hardly ever wrong?) I think you should come to your own conclusion and then tell me what you think. We can compare secrets. (Note: I am only asking about this particular secret, the pertaining to Eugenie – no secrets about your granny panties that you wear to bed, okay?) Oh, yeah, and about Aeson (one of the mighty, horny Kings) am I the only one who thinks he looks like Eugenie?? He didn’t seem as bad as everyone made him out to be either. Other than a real party animal – but I kind of expected him to be the kind that kicks butt first and asks questions later. But, hey, he must be a lover not a fighter (excuse me while I snicker). I will say, that I was hoping that old mister fox would reveal himself in this issue because I am super excited for that. I think I know who that is…and I bet you do to. And those marks on Eugenie’s back….hmmmm…I like it. That’s all I can say about that. I really liked the plot and how fast the story moved in this issue, there was something happening on every page which was very cool. I also enjoyed the illustration. The bright colors were kickin’ and interesting to the eye. Eugenie’s three “servants” were cool too and I loved their drawings and how they were represented. I also kind of liked the evil one Volusian, he was so vile and evil yet shorter than Eugenie. For some reason this amused me. I also kind of got the impression that he wouldn’t kill her as fast (oh wait excuse me “rip the flesh from her bones”) as fast as he said he would. It must be good having a baddie like that on your side. I think I might order one. Anyone have that catalogue lying around? I can’t really say much more because that would give away the fun and then you wouldn’t want to read it. What a shame that would be. This is a good read. Its light and fun and a just a touch of a guilty pleasure. So what would I suggest? Simple. Get a copy. (Heck get all three issues) and then get some candy or chocolate (me? I’d rather just have the candy…sour patch kids anyone??) and stash this issue under the couch or in your bag. When the kiddies are at school or you are waiting for them to hurry on from wherever they have wrangled you to drive them, pull out this little secret read and enjoy. OR if you have a day job (ugh, you need to quit that already!) stash it in your desk and read it when your boss isn’t looking. If he catches you just show him Eugenie’s hotness and he’ll forgive you. If it’s a female boss…you’re out of luck (unless she has a thing for redheads…hehehehe). Kudos to Sea Lion Books (www.sealionbooks.com) for putting out another great Issue, now hurry up and get the next issue out, I want answers and more action!! So there you have it. My opinion. This review is written by Cambria Hebert
Even if you are not a fan of Mead’s books you will enjoy this paranormal romance brought to life before your eyes!
My Take on the Story: (Backup Story) Eugenie is a strong shaman and when she is on a job, the spirit seems to know who she is….her real name, and even tries to get in her pants (that had never happened before).
Eug is offered a job to save Jasmine, a teenage girl who was kidnapped by Gentry (Fairies) more specifically, Aeson, King of the Alder Land. But the job requires Eugenie to cross over into the otherworld, and that can be very dangerous. Eug struggles with what to do, and decides to get her mind off things and clear her head over a drink where she meets Kiyo, a sexy and charming man who strikes up a conversation with her. When Egu goes home with Kiyo she didn’t expect to have the best and care free *love making* of her life, and she definitely didn’t expect for another demon to show up…. To be continued….
(Issue Two) The Gentry that manifested was an Ice Elemental, an anthro-morphic creature composed of sharp ice crystals. Right away Kiyo jumped into action, faster than any regular human could do. Once again this spirit wanted to get into Eug’s pants and knew her name. After sending him back to the otherworld, Eug went on the defensive and frantically tried to figure out what Kiyo really was. He jumped out the window and disappeared! (That was strange).
While Eug uses her contacts to find any information on Kiyo she made up her mind to save Jasmine….now she just has to tell her family.
(Issue Three) After telling her mother and step-dad her plan, Eugenie works on summoning some extra help for the job. She calls upon Volusian, a damned soul who Eug enslaved when she caught him tormenting a family, Nandi, a Zulu who Eug had offered eventual peace in exchange for service to her for three years, and Finn, who just hung around for entertainment.
Eugenie and her gang went in search of Aeson but were attacked by King Dorian’s army on the way. King Dorian is king of the Oak Land and isn’t a big fan of Aeson, so he makes a deal with Eugenie to help her take Aeson down. He offers an ex guard of Aeson’s, who has an expert knowledge of his castle’s layout.
Once Eug and the gang get inside the castle and fight off the first swarm of guards, they find Jasmine…..but they also find King Aeson himself!
The Story and Content: In this Issue there is a lot more action and we learn even more about the otherworld and its creatures. Eugenie teams up with some pretty interesting characters and even learns that Kiyo may have marked her.
The Art: We get to see what Eugenie’s team looks like in and out of their own worlds. I loved comparing the two and finally seeing what parts of the otherworld looked like. The color was my favorite part about the graphic novel. The colors really popped, and brought the whole story to another dimension!
Recently I had the pleasure of reading the third installment of the Dark Swan comic series by Richelle Mead. For those of you who are following along with my reviews, you know that the series revolves around a woman named Eugenie Markham, who has the supernatural ability to banish spirits known as “the gentry” from attempting to gain entry and harm people in the human world. She is a protector of sorts, and she has honed her skills over the years so that she has become very efficient at banishing spirits back to their own world. This time, however, she must enter this world in order to save a human girl who has been hopelessly trapped by an evil spirit king.
The story begins by following Eugenie as she prepares to travel to the spirit world. The girl, Jasmine, has been captured by a spirit king known as Aeson for some type of enslavement. Eugenie enlists the help of three spirits so that she can protect herself in their world. Two of them, Volusian and Nadi, were contractually obligated to help, as Eugenie had entered them into a form of indentured servitude to her in exchange for their lives when she first encountered them. The third spirit, Finn, was free to come and go as he pleased, as he and Eugenie had struck up a friendship over the years. After outlining her plan to the three spirits, she travels with Jasmine’s brother Wil and her roommate Tim to a deserted stretch of desert where the distance between the human and spirit worlds grew thin. Fortunately, they make it safely to the spirit world, but are soon under siege and brought to King Dorian, the king of the Oak Land. Eugenie and her spirits are wary, as they are unsure that King Dorian will believe her story and instead kill her. Will Eugenie be able to save herself? Will she be able to convince Dorian to help her defeat Aeson? What will happen to Jasmine?
The first thing I noticed about issue #3 was how fantastic the graphics were. I’m not sure if it’s because there were more colors in this one, but the imagery was much better here than in the first two. Traveling into the other world, Eugenie moves through lands that are differentiated by season. It was interesting to see the drawings change for each world and what stood out in each one. Additionally, the storyline seemed to be more exciting and took interesting twists and turns that drew me in, and has me eager to read the next installment. It’s interesting to see how strong the character development has become from issue to issue. Each issue is fairly short, yet packed with multiple revelations about Eugenie’s character and that of her stepfather Roland. It’s my favorite so far, and has really piqued my interest in this series. If you haven’t already, I definitely recommend giving these graphic novels a try!
Storm Born Issue 3 picks up where issue 2 left off - with Eugenie deciding to cross over to the Otherworld, so she could save Jasmine. Before doing that though, she calls her 'minions'(Volusian, Nandi and Finn), as she likes to call them, asking for advice. Unsatisfied with what they have to offer, she releases them, after asking one last question - how many otherworldly creatures know her real name. Well, now that's an answer she really didn't like hearing... First thing next morning, Eugenie met up with Will and they crossed over. There they found the spirits waiting for them and they started walking towards Aeson's castle. While crossing through the Oak Land, though, they encounter a little surprise - they are attacked. After getting defeated, the whole group is in danger of getting killed, but fortunately, Eugenie succeeds in making the guards think that she has business to discuss with the king, Dorian. So, they are taken to see him, and we can notice immediately that he is intrigued to have the famous Odile there. He even starts flirting with her after a while, but Eugenie just pretends she doesn't notice it. After finishing with dinner they go in a private place (aka Dorian's bedroom) to talk about serious stuff. Once they get there, Dorian, stalls a little more, telling her a story about Storm King, and then agrees to help her by sending a servant who knows Aeson's castle. Eugenie agrees to this and he takes her to meet him, not before making another proposal - he will help her recover Jasmine, himself if she agrees to share the bed with him that night - which she promptly declines. After meeting the servant, the whole gang leaves towards the Alder Land. This issue is ending with them getting to the castle and being trapped inside a room where Aeson keeps Jasmine. I, personally, am starting to like the comic books more and more. They capture the essence of the story perfectly and the way everything is drawn really helps me understand it even better. The characters are pretty similar to what I imagined, so Sea Lion Books get major score for that. Overall, I'd give this comic 10 stars. It was exactly what I was expecting.

Eugenie, Miss Markham, Odile - whatever you want to call her – finds herself in a whole heap of trouble in this issue. Against her better judgement and the advice of her step-father and ‘minions,’ she travels to the Otherworld – not the brightest idea, but really, what else could she do?
Eugenie discovers she’s a very popular woman in the Otherworld and is *solicited* by every other ’macho’ supernatural she comes across. At least King Dorian was somewhat charming about it, but when she finds herself captured in the clutches of Aeson, she knows she won’t experience that same kind of consideration. Aeson and his men did, after all, capture a fifteen-year-old girl and, well, I’m sure you get the rest of the story…
I found the third issue to be one of the most exciting yet.. We get into some more action, more complications, and more answers. There’s a little more insight into Kiyo’s reasons (which is an unexplored elemet of the story I’m the most curious about), and I’m itchin’ to see more of him…soon… Then again, I’m also thinkin’ maybe we have been seeing him here and there in random places, just not in the form we’ve come to know.
The world that the artists have created is beautiful in an archaic sort of way. Rather than being as progressive as the real world, the Gentry’s time seems to move much slower, almost as if they are stuck in the past. The Otherworld is confusing at times, folding in on itself and changing seasons and surroundings quickly as they pass from land to land.
With her guide, Eugenie plows her way through the Otherworld, and I knew when she found the girl, it couldn’t be that easy. I’m curious to find out how she gets herself out of this sticky situation. A round of applause for Storm Born – can’t wait until the next issue! Thanks Sea Lion Books!
Eugenie is waist deep in the Gentry world now. She decided to go through with it, and is now on her way to save the child. She runs into gorgeous, tempting Gentry, has her life threatened, and had one of her accomplices almost killed. Nice way to start the issue, huh?
Her companions are super cool, and very different. I don't know much about the series except for what I have been reading in these graphic novels, but I will say, the visualizations being provided for the characters are rich, captivating, and lively. I love Volusian. Don't ask me why, I'm not sure myself. He is pure evil, right to the core, but something draws me to him, and I want to know more about him.
Maybe I am sadistic...maybe...
But he is super cool.
But we definitely clip along at a good pace through this issue. I don't want to give anything away for those of you who haven't read it yet, but know this...you will be like I was when you reach the end...screaming...WAIT!!! Keep going!!!
The Gentry in their own world look so different from how they were depicted in the human world, it's great to see how the worlds are so different, and how they are able to control all that goes on in their realm.
I love the colors in this book as well. The land of the Gentry is amazing. I want to go there, but not as a human. They have a tendency of making young, voluptuous, girls their slaves. (Now I really am living in a fantasy world, I have't been young in a long time, and voluptuous...BAH HAHA!!)
*AHEM*
Anyway, the story is really getting good now, and I want to see what else is going to happen. They always leave these things on that cliff...Its like the longest commercial break ever...Hurry up issue #4!! :)
The Dark Swan, Eugenie Markham better known as Odile in the earth realm takes on the mission to bring back a human girl from the Otherworld that was taken against her will. Odile knows that a Gentry by the name of Aeson (Alder Land King) took the human girl Jasmine but before she goes after him she gathers reinforcements.
With the aid of her gang of spirits Volusian – a damned soul that she enslaved, Nandi a Zulu Women accused of Witchcraft who was cursed from finding rest just like Volusian , Finn, a spirit who always hung around because he found Odile entertaining, and her friend Wil in his outer body spirit; and cross over to the Otherworld to seek help from the Oak land King Dorian.
The graphic art is absolutely beautiful, the scenes full of action comes alive right there on the page and makes you feel you"re within their Otherworld realm. Each comic is addicting, captivating, and leaves you on the edge of your seat as you jones for the next issue to come out.
Below is a few of the pages where Odile gathers her gang. You can fully see how beautiful her spiritual friends are.
A massive thank you to Sea Lion books for sending me this to review, I was getting a bit nervous as I had heard there was a bit of a hold up with this issue!
The story starts off right where we left it in issue two, Euegnie has decided to cross over to the Otherworld in order to find and rescue the teenager Jasmine who was kidnapped by Aeson (some of us who have read the books know who she really is).
While in the Otherworld Eugenie gets help from King Dorian to reach Aeson's castle and rescue Jasmine but when she gets there things do not go as smoothly as she originally planned!
I love love loved this issue! I honestly do not know what I can possibly say that isn't going to turn into a Richelle Mead gush fest..ok so I'll try....
The art work in this issue is truly amazing! Being a fan of the original books I was completely surprised to see some of my favourite characters come to life. King Dorian, Aeson and Volusian are not what I expected at all. In fact they are a million times better than what I had imagined in my head!
King Dorian's court was exactly what I had imagined it to be like from the books, people kissing and doing who knows what out in the open! The Otherworld itself has some amazing details in it, especially the trees in the background I really loved those!
I loved how the all of the characters have still kept all their individual traits and quirks from the books and of course they make me laugh like hell! Of course Eugenie is her usual bad-ass self like she is in the books, only this time it's as if she has come to life!
I honestly cannot wait for the fourth issue in this series now!
As I said on my review of the Storm Born Comics, Volume 1 and 2, I am a HUGE Richelle Mead fan and her Dark Swan series is one of my favorite Urban Fantasy series EVER! THey were actually one of the first I have ever read and they have stuck with me ‘til this day. I was thoroughly impressed with Volume 1 and 2, that when I got a chance to read Volume 3, I was like “HELL YES!” LOL
First of all I have to say that it is very hard to review something so short. I mean, each Volume has around 32 pages and not much plot content at all.
However, it is quite spectacular to be able to see such amazing drawings and representations of characters I absolutely adore and this latest Volume was NOT an exception!
Storm Born is definitely an great example of that and the images are amazingly done and the the story is very well constructed to both include enough backstory and action to make you not want to put it down.
In this newest installment we finally get to see Dorian! OMG, the King is here LOL. So funny to look at him now, after all that has happened in the series and see him like the first time I saw him. I love him NOW, but at that time, I so didn’t hehe.
I still believe that both Dark Swan fans and newcomers will LOVE these and I will continue to totally recommend them! I cannot wait for the next volumes!
This is the first comic book I have received for review and I want to thank Sea Lion Books for giving me the opportunity to do so. I haven't read the previous comics in the series but I have read the books so I have background knowledge about what Storm Born Comic (Volume 3) is about.
I love Richelle Mead's writing and have read all of her Dark Swan Books and own all of her Vampire Academy books so when I got the chance to review Storm Born Comic (Volume 3) I jumped at the chance, not only would I have knowledge of the storyline, but I would get to see the pictures and drawings for the characters and finally get to see if my imagination put them to justice.
Well, my imagination is severely lacking in the imaginative department. Not only do the comics follow the books perfectly, but the artwork is amazing and I have to say Volusian is kinda scary looking, not at all what I imagined him to be, but now that I have seen an actual drawing of him there is no way I would cross him.
Storm Born Volume 3 starts off where Eugenie has decided to cross over to try to find Jasmine and has enlisted the help of Volusian, Nandi and Finn right up to the point were she is discovered by Aeson.
I am so liking Storm Born Volume 3 that I NEED to find where I can buy copies of the first two comics and this one too.
To buy a copy of Storm Born Comic (Volume 3) take a look at Comic Shop Locator to find your nearest stockist.
I just want to say thanks so much to Sea Lion Books for sending me along a copy to read and review! I'm absolutely adoring seeing Storm Born as a graphic, as it's also one of my favorite series by Richelle Mead. Being able to see all of the action put into some amazing graphics is WONDERFUL. And they're really gorgeous graphics, too!
Issue #3 starts off immediately where #2 left off, and I was excited getting into it knowing I'd get to see Dorian in this one. Dorian is my favorite character. :P Very happy to see him gracing across the pages, and that his personality still popped through just as it did in the books. It's really fun seeing everything, and while I'm normally not a huge fan of graphic novels- I'm a huge fan of this one! Bravo! :)
By the way, even if you haven't read The Dark Swan series by Richelle Mead, there's absolutely nothing holding you back from picking up this graphic series if you're interested. You don't have to read the books first to read the graphics. :) (Although I do recommend reading the book series as well if you haven't! It's great!)
Thank you Sea Lion Books for supplying another great Graphic Novel.
Volume 3 in the series & I'm hooked.
Eugenie has gotten herself in trouble again. She has started her journey to rescue the sister. Her servants are on hand to help & guide her through the otherworld, but it is all on Eugenie.
Safely across into the otherworld, they start their search. Not far in, they are ambushed & taken to King Dorian. Everybody knows Eugenie's name & she is starting to get worried what that all means. Dorian has offered her help of one of his servants whom used to work for Aeson. He will lead Eugenie into the castle & has given directions to find the missing teenager.
Everything is quiet inside the castle, everything seems too quiet. Come to the final closed door & open to find the missing teenager guarded by several guards. Eugenie & her crew are caught off guard & are captured.
Aeson enters...... To be continued.
Oh my what another fantastic volume, can't wait for the next. I love the humor & sarcastic comments along the way. Wonderful!
In this issue of “Storm Born” (#3), Eugenie prepares to cross to the Otherworld in order to save Jasmin from the Gentry. We meet her spirit servants: Volusian, Nandi and Finn. Each reacts to her differently: Volusian hopes to kill her as she bound him against his will; Nandi serves for 3 years in exchange for being crossed over at the end; and Finn (who is is ADORABLE) serves because he finds it amusing. Eugenie hopes to gain the assistance of King Dorian against King Aeson in her quest.
Like the previous issues, the art in #3 really pops. I have still not read the actual book, so I’m going along with this not knowing what is going to happen, and as a result I am finding it extremely exciting (and am very tempted to read the book because I really want to know what is going to happen!). Fans of urban fantasy are going to love this series, which continues to be excellent. Go to your nearest comic shop or book store and get or order a copy TODAY!
The story picks up right where it left off. Eugenie decides to go after Jasmine, who was kidnapped by the evil character Aeson (we don't like him). King Dorian lends a hand to Eugenie's quest, which should prove helpful...but things are never that easy and Eugenie finds herself in the middle of quite a few large problems. Eugenie also has the help of Volusian, Fin, and Wil. Fin only helps because he believes Eugenie to be interesting. Wil is just plain kind and caring. Volusian doesn't have much choice in the matter-a bound soul. The action takes off from there.
The scenes are very vibrant and realistic for a comic. The reader will appreciate the quality of the pictures. This comic is actually more exciting than the former two, the action really picks up speed. The characters seem to be more amusing, evil, etc...their traits stand out more. This comic is recommended to young adults who enjoyed the first two (and you WILL enjoy the first two :).
Synopsis: Eugenie Markham never asked for any of this. Until now, she's been content with her job as a freelance shaman, battling and banishing Otherworldly creatures. When a prophecy suddenly makes her the Otherworld's most popular bachelorette, Eugenie finds herself fighting off unwanted supernatural suitors, as well as the evils that begin emerging from her past...
My thoughts (Vol. III) 'Storm Born' is a great Urban Fantasy story and the artwork in this graphic novel is excellent!! I'm usually not a huge fan of graphic novels - mostly I just don't like the artwork... but 'Storm Born' really surprised me with great and very colorful illustrations of the characters. Storm Born is definitely a graphic novel worth checking out and I am really looking forward to Vol. IV in the series.
Richelle Mead’s Storm Born #3 Sometimes people just don’t seem to ever listen to sound advice. Eugenie is faced with the decision to follow her friend’s advice or to do what she knows in her heart she should do. I never read graphic novels until Sea Lion Books sent me this to review. Thank you Sea Lion for letting me read this and for showing me entirely new genera to explore. I have mentioned this before in reviews, but I feel it is worth mentioning again. Richelle Mead is a great author. I love the characters she writes about, and the stories she creates. If you like Richelle Mead, Graphic novels, Vampire stories or science fiction you will love this series. I cannot wait for the next volume.
This third installment to Storm Born was even better than the previous ones.
Eugenie crosses over to the Otherworld, along with her servants. I particularly enjoyed the whole element of servitude with demons and how Eugenie can compel them and bind them to do her bidding. I also like the fact that although they are doomed to obey, they are conscious of being slaves and once free their most likely desire would be to kill her.
The crossover to the Otherworld was done fabulously and I loved loved loved Dorian's court and his advances. He was both sexy and hilarious. The story about the Storm King seemed to be pointing somewhere (look title) and I think the next one will make this even clearer.
As before the sketches are fantastic! Highly recommended!
If your a lover of the Dark Swan series Im sure that these graffic novels will be certainly a treat for you. If you havent read the series, (( the novels )) they are easy to follow, and understand and once again the graphics and illustrations are fantastic !!
The way in which the artist portrays Eguenie from the colours to the expressions was down pact !! Sensationally done !! In book three we meet King Dorian ;) and a few other characters, the story line is fast paced, at only 35 pages long but filled with exceptional colours and graphics ... Lots of action and filled with goodies the entire read !!
A must read for all who love Richelle Meads series !! Look forward to book 4 !!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Eugenie is a shaman, and she's been dealing with all sorts of paranormal baddies for most of her life. While on a few routine assignments, she realizes that the beasties seem to have discovered her real name, and that there are a few who seem to want a little more than just a fight...
The third installment in the series was amazing! I loved the introduction of the new characters, and we finally get some answers about what's going on in the Otherworld! This was a great read and I definitely recommend you check out the rest of the series if you haven't already!
In this issue of Storm Born, after Eugenie decided to visit the Otherworld in full body she gathers all the help she can get. With her three servants by her side, she ventures into the Otherworld. Her plan is to find Dorian, a gentry kind enemy of the one who holds the girl campitve, and ask for his help. While on Dorian's castle she discovers a few things she didn't expect to. Then she starts her mission for the retrieval of the lost girl, but not everything goes as she hoped for.
I am getting really into this story, now I'm off to read the next one. Hopefully Kiyo will appear soon.
Eugenie begins to rally her troops. This issue is where those of us who were not previously familiar with the character have our eyes opened. Never before have I thought a comic was on one specific path only to then realize that there has been another one just underneath and about to intersect this entire time. To quote a great announcer, “business is about to pick up!”

Eugenie journeys into the Otherworld, to find the missing Jasmine, but she is careful to bring some help with her. The action in Issue #3 is a bit tame compared to the other installments, but still wonderful. Dazzling art with vibrant colors. The Otherworld reveals temptations and secrets from the past for Eugenie. All I say is give me more. I'm loving this graphic novel. I'm hooked on the story. I didn't think I would enjoy it this much. Dark Swan is quickly becoming a must read.
From the summoning of the spirits, this takes us through the first crossing of the group to save Jasmine and the original encounter with Dorian. Jasmine does look like a younger, paler imitation of Eugiene, which is kind of creepy already knowing more about their connection from the books. Dorian comes off as more amiable and sweet natured than I recall from the original book, though it has been awhile. As true with the original story - everyone wants a piece of Odile Dark Swan.

I think these get better with ever issue. I loved Dorian, and the comic book brought him to life better then I imagined it could. I love the way that they are able to incorporate so much of the book into a single page. Can't wait for #4!!!
