Coventry, England 1946- Recently widowed, Maeve Phillips is doing her best to support the war effort. A sensible young woman, she prides herself on always being in control. But her life is turned topsy turvy when she is hurled through time, landing in the turbulent war-torn fifteenth century. Scared and alone, if she is going to survive she must place her fate in the hands of the ruthless and irresistibly handsome Rhys Penyore.
An Agent to the Crown, Rhys has spent his life amongst the shadows. Fresh from the Battle of Bosworth the stakes have never been higher, as King Henry Tudor ascends the throne in a country rife with traitors and would-be assassins. As if his life were not complicated enough, Rhys finds himself bewitched by a stubborn, yet utterly alluring woman claiming to be from the future.
The first in author Anna Kensington's debut series, A Shadow in Time is the story of two unlikely lovers' perilous journey to overcome their differences and find love, in a country torn apart by years of violence and civil war.
Anna Kensington, a Pacific Northwest native, holds a degree in English Literature with a minor in History. When she's not entertaining (or perhaps boring) her family with obscure historical trivia, Anna enjoys hiking in the region’s stunning landscapes, painting, and spending cozy moments with her Boston Terrier.
I hesitated for a long time to listen to this even though Harry Frost (The narrator) is a favorite of mine, and now that I did I really must say it is brilliant! I loved his welsh!!
First of, I love Outlander and every kind of Time Travel sort of plot. So now it was no different, sometimes it did reminded me of Outlander (or maybe that‘s only bc I somehow analyzed a bit in plane and found some similarities. 🤷♀️)
Nevertheless, the heroine Maeve and our hero Rhys are perfect together, and the chemistry is on point. I loved how Maeve even in another century still had her own mind and thoughts even if it was hard for her to fit in. And Rhys really is a hero!! I can‘t count how many battles he fought in and always wanted to come back for Maeve. His loyalty is amazing!!
Narration; 5+ Stars (Like I said, Harry is a favorite of mine.) Story; 5 Stars
Very enjoyable read though I would have liked more of a travel time aspect. You could have completely eliminated the travel time piece and it would not have really impacted the storyline. Kensington does tie the first book into the second, but I just started reading #2 so again I'm curious if I feel the same way about the travel time part. Book 2 essentially starts out the same as Book 1 (just different characters and venues)....hopefully Kensington isn't using the same storyline "template".
I loved this book, it held my attention from the first few pages, Rhys was a lovely hero and Maeve’s time travel kept it interesting. I will be looking out now for book 2.
what a great READ!, this story starts out with Maeve finding a ring, that transports her to the past, she is found by Rhys a Knight of the KING. IT goes on with the romance and adventures they have. This is a MUST READ
