An almost quiet character developing novel of the Arisen military-zombie apocalypse series, after the insane action-packed battle for the carrier in the previous one.
But after a quiet half pace rises quickly for good and the cliffhanger ending was a real blast.
Charlotte the fighter pilot is my most favourite character now, and the criticism against the 0 seconds virus incubation time in World War Z was just great.
If you like realism in zombie apocalypses (but for infected jumping higher than the Hulk..) and Michael Bay action flicks this is the series for you.

Another pretty darn good action thriller featuring zombies and special ops soldiers. End of the World As We Know It and much more. The action slowed a bit from the extreme violence in the last Arisen thriller Exodus (Arisen, #5) by Glynn James . Time to catch up on character and story development. The authors are doing a great job on pacing this series out. I have read and reviewed all the Arisen books to include the prequel. I have given them all 4 or 5 star reviews. Each story is well written and with a plot and direction we can all get with. Already looking forward to the next book in this series. Try one and you will soon be hooked as well.

Another great book in the series! Lots of action. A lot of tough situations, bad luck, heroism and some intense rescue scenes that had me reading late into the night. So good I already started on book 7.

In the aftermath of the Battle of the JFK, everyone is dealing with the recent stress overload and the fear that zombies may still be hiding on board. CentCom is overloaded with new outbreaks while London is falling apart as law and order breaks down. An attempt to bring equipment and people to help Simon ends in disaster as he battles to stay alive below decks with Sarah, unarmed against the zombies. Alpha Team are starting to unravel as personal issues get in the way of the mission and the British are sent on a deadly mission into the heart of Germany.

Ali is reconsidering her relationship with Homer while Handon's jealousy may destroy his relationship with Sarah. Henno is losing faith in Handon as a leader. Wesley discovers a zombie in the toilet block of the JFK and a simple trip to the ship's stores turns into a life and death struggle for Sarah and Simon as zombie remnants continue to spread terror and death below decks. As the plane with Simon's supplies lands, a lone religious extremist tries to sabotage the mission, bringing terror to the flight deck once more. Fick's group are preparing to do a supply run in South Africa but as they pull up towards the port, they are all intrigued to see a Russian warship docked there.

CentCom are tracking new outbreaks along the English south coast which threaten the London safe zone and Charlotte finds her base deserted when she lands after tackling zombie hordes nearby. The Tunnel survivors fear for their safety as fights and small zombie outbreaks are hitting the capital while Rebecca, Ainsley's widow watches fearfully from her home, unaware yet of her husband's death or her brother Alan fighting zombies on his Portsmouth farm. Grews helicopter has crashed in the combat zone and he awaits help as the zombies close in

Jameson's group are sent to quarantine in London where they are told they must insert into Germany to get the vital equipment that Simon has lost or there is no hope of a cure. Along with Eli, Jameson lands in Dusseldorf hoping to get in and out of the building with the machine before the zombies notice that they are there but it does not go to plan and Jameson faces his own mortality trapped alone in a building swarming with zombies.

While the pace of the book starts a little slower so everyone can recover from the deadly battle, it does not stay that way for long. The JFK may be on the move again thanks to Martin and The Murphy but tension is high as personal demons threaten to open rifts in Alpha Team while they prepare for the mission in Africa to locate Patient Zero. The action soon starts up again as Sarah makes the decision to go to the stores unarmed with Simon and finds that they may not live to regret her mistake. Seriously what are you doing woman??? As the others wonder why Simon is not there to greet the arriving scientists, hell breaks loose on deck as a religious extremist tries to kill the new arrivals to sabotage any chance of a cure. I had wondered if they had dealt with all the idiots from the early books and I got my answer in dramatic style here!

I loved the introduction of Noise, a Sikh warrior and pilot who has flown the scientists into a war zone on the JFK. He is seriously cool and deadly! I loved the tension of the mission in Dusseldorf and my fear for Jameson and Eli, two of my favourite characters, while enjoying watching Sarah and Simon in the dark bowels of the ship trying to stay alive. Lots of tension, lots of action and the brilliant writing of the authors made this a great follow up to the raging battle in book five. There is nothing boring about this series!

I read these books in February but am just getting time and blog space to review them now.

Finally Alpha and the other military people on the super carrier are out of danger - or are they? - because nothing is ever easy for these men and women. But now we get to see more of them, how they're all coping with what happened, signs of PTSD. But still they push on, never backing down. And we met again with the military groups on the ground in Britain. It's like meeting old comrades in different scenarios, mostly dangerous. The beginning was a nice change of pace, but never fear, it picks up again! Starting the next book tonight!

The little errors don't destroy the story, they just make you wonder. And through the last few days I've tried to understand why the authors are allowing the errors to go unchecked. There is a simple thing, it's called a good editor. And on being a good editor, let me suggest something about writing - If your character sighs, it is out loud. If you say "He sighed out loud" you are saying to the reader nothing is out loud unless you say it is. Think of it this way, when a character speaks, they are speaking out loud. If a reader thinks about it, they keep wondering why this is happening. Also the use of gerunds and present tense modifiers throughout started to get tedious during the read.

The story, and the characters, are engaging. I like the way the authors roll the world end and life on the edge with skill and descriptive narration. There is a great amount of action, with both authors using the same style of writing. This is difficult, for everyone has a certain voice when they write. But try as I might, it is difficult to find where Glynn ends and Michael starts. This is one thing that makes their partnership shine in the series. It is also why I keep reading.

Personally, I can live through some of the issues, but really suggest the two authors find a better editor who is able to show these little issues to them for correction. It is time now to move on to the next in the series.

Utterly Brilliant! ** NO SPOILERS **

This book takes us back to Alpha Team and their struggles in North America. They found their objective in the form of one Dr Park a microbiologist who had been stuck in a bunker in Chicago, alone for two years. After surviving the Battle for the JFK they’re heading to Africa.

Dr Parks needs a sample of the earliest virus victims so that he can tailor his potential cure without endangering the remaining survivors of humanity. As they’re fond of saying, the only easy day was yesterday.

Parks gets to work in his newly acquired lab onboard the JFK whilst waiting for an inbound flight from Fortress Britain carrying leading virologists. Nobody is surprised when things don’t go smoothly, thankfully Handon, Alpha Team and their naval counterparts are quick to action and adapt accordingly.
Honestly this series is just riveting, the way it’s written and presented is like having a front row view of the action. It’s a good job that they all know what they’re doing!

Really enjoying this series. My one issue is, no one dies. No major characters that is. No matter what "This is it..." situation a major character has found themselves in, I am now catching myself thinking, yeah it seems like there is no way out for (insert character name) but then no one dies, so they'll get out of it somehow.
Ok I lied, issue 2: these authors have one crazy wide-eyed romance going on for the special forces. It gets a bit much after the 3rd book. And finally issue 3: I don't think we (the readers ) need the full name of every type of ordnance the characters use. Personally I don't need the full name "...GBU-39 precision-guided glide bombs and Brimstone air-launched ground attack missiles..." Or "...MARSOC M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistol (CQBP)..." or "...dropped the 5.56 mag out..." not really necessary, specially when you are the 4,5 or 6th book in.
Excellent narration as expected.

This is my favorite installment in the series thus far. Each book continues the story so what we have here is an epic ZA military driven dystopian horror-scape to bear witness to, internally. The characters are well fleshed out at this point and the action just keeps on popping. I'm excited to see where this story goes and I'm certainly invested at this point and recommend the series to anybody interested in the genre.

Between the big Battle and Africa

Well Book 6 takes place after the battle on the JFK.. so everyone is basically getting everything together before they reach Africa for finding Patient Zero. You would think this interlude.. maybe Alpha team, the marines, civilians.. anyone.. would get a break.. but..nope. It’s another action packed, blow your mind, suspense filled time!

I'll be honest, the series is starting to blend together in one long story. I vaguely remember where book 6 starts, but this one felt more character based than the previous (granted, book 5 was off the chain in events). But, the ending sets the course anew for more drama of the usual high caliber.

While being in lockdown the whole series of Arisen was released for free on Kindle, so I took the opportunity to re-read the first few and catch up on the rest.
Still keeping my interest and the different experiences going on in each book make for addictive reading.

Pure Madness on the Kennedy

Even in a ZA, religious fanatics are always dangerous, no matter if they have safe harbor (and still alive) on a battleship! Can't the survivors get a breather? Homer and Ali might not survive this last mission.

A slower paced book

We readers are certainly excited to see what challenges will be overcome, but this book allowed us a bit less fire and more profiling of the character's we've followed. On to the next one!

After such a promising start to this series, it quickly became boring and uninspiring, a complete opposite of the first four books. I have moved on from the Arisen series as it has become a complete waste of my time.

4 stars, felt like a lot of filler. Some great bits and ends on a decent cliff hanger however a large part of the book felt like it could have just been a couple of chapters but was dragged out instead.

Enjoyable read.

This series goes from strength to strength. Kennedy is now making its way to Africa and still finding ZA aboard. Good narrative.

A change of pace for the characters to examine how F'ed up they are from all this zombie-ing. A good change to bulk out the cast with some new members too seeing as people are dying all the time.
