In modern psychology, Attachment Theory teaches that the quality of the parent-child bond—secure, strained, or absent—profoundly shapes a person’s entire life. Today, modern neuroscience confirms this insight at a biological level.

Remarkably, the Christian scriptures tell a story that not only harmonizes with attachment theory but also invites us into a faith journey grounded in secure attachment—empowered by a relationship with Jesus. Cyd and Geoff beautifully illustrate how the story of Jesus, the “God with us,” has the power to heal wounded or outdated attachment strategies. In doing so, he offers us a joyful, secure bond that forms us into the people we were created to be.

Faith. Science. Therapy. Far from being in conflict, this book shows how all three are in deep and natural agreement.

Clinical terms like:

anxious attachment

avoidant attachment

disorganized attachment

—while essential—can feel abstract or inaccessible to many. Landscapes of the Soul makes these ideas concrete and emotionally resonant through real-life metaphors:

The Desert

The Jungle

The War Zone

The Pasture

These images, paired with engaging personal stories, offer readers a framework not only for understanding attachment, but for deepening their relationship with Jesus—the Savior who says, “I am with you to the end.”

Through their own stories and the stories of others, Cyd and Geoff help readers:

identify where they are in their relational and spiritual life

trace how they got there

imagine how healing and secure attachment with Jesus might reshape their future

and take hopeful, actionable steps toward restoration, agency, and joy

They spend time in all four landscapes, giving the reader space to locate themselves—without shame—and imagine their path toward growth and spiritual maturity.

The prayer practices woven into the chapters are clear, simple, and accessible—“everyone gets to play.” The spiritual practices described near the end of the book are immediately applicable for people of all backgrounds: whether young or old, exploring faith or following Jesus for years.

Many walk away from the faith of their youth—often formulaic or legalistic—only to search for meaning in non-relational, impersonal spiritual paths. Landscapes of the Soul invites us to set aside those empty formulas and rediscover the Real Jesus through joyful, secure connection.

This book helped chart a path for me. I read an early copy alongside my wife and daughter, and it’s become a powerful framework as I seek healing, clarity, and new dreams for the future—especially in a season of major family transition.

I’ve already ordered copies for friends and family. Read it with an open mind and a hungry heart. You won’t be disappointed.

Solid gold!

Well researched and science based, but expressed in a way that is easy to understand. Theologically and psychologically grounded. Immenently practical. The body of Christ has been in dire need of a book like this!
