Tom Savage’s farm is coming along nicely. Trees are producing sap. The garden’s doing well. The chickens are surviving. Even the horses are thriving. No star containment units have blown up recently. But the planet of Phaethon has problems galore.
The major governmental systems have instituted an embargo, preventing all but humanitarian supplies from going there. And nothing has shown up yet.
League City, the capital, is in chaos. Gangs roam the street. One woman, Haley Stonecipher, hopes to make a difference with Tom’s help and the assistance of his AI.
The ship at the center of it all, Pulsar, is gone, heading back to Lute. But that is only the beginning of troubles for Captain Wink McKelway, his pilot and their sole passenger . . .
Don’t miss the latest installment in this fast-paced space western! Featuring gun battles, fist fights, sand dragons, angry roosters, wayward cats, and much, much more! Take a trip out to the star farm today!
Tom had his feet propped up, coffee in hand, as he listened to Gwen and her mother Gina Del Rio argue via hologram over the quantum matrix, loud enough to reach every corner of the house. They had only gotten the antenna the day before, but her mother is reprimanding her for not keeping in regular contact! Silas and Lola had already stopped by and quickly turned around to get out of the line of verbal fire. Now her mother has information about Anthony Kim whose ship is in trouble and she wants Tom to hear what she has to say. His parents were also invited. Mrs. Del Rio started by mentioning the planet Phaethon has not been very helpful in giving her information to track who is immigrating to planets the government can’t monitor. Fugitives and known criminals are still heading there (and if she hears about it, she gladly turns them in to the Marshall’s Service). Now a man, Reynard Gliph, wants to set up his own Utopia and is moving into Phaethon intending to take not just a “piece” of land, but the entire planet! He met a man name Anton Berris and recruited him as his primary strategist, confidant, and co-conspirator. They call themselves the X’s and O’s. The ship Pulsar is believed to have smuggled offworld some League weaponry left over from the war. Getting hold of the Machro-drive in the Pulsar would make the fanatics capable of setting up their new government. Things aren’t looking good. And her mother is intending to send what amounts to a “spy” to get their government’s “foot in the door”. Will this Ashley Thallus do much more harm than good?
The author is again bringing us into his exciting space-Western adventure where more excitement is building. Without a doubt, readers will again be experiencing the scenes coming to life around them. The action, adventure, excitement, and humor continue and you won’t want to miss this story as Tom once again is determined to keep Phaethon safe for their people! I never cease to be impressed with this author! Grab your copy of the book and let Jaxon take you away to another world!
Pulsar's Peril is the fourth book in Jaxon Reed's Star Farmer series. I fell in love with the series with the first book, Tom Savage, and I have loved every book that came after. Each story gets better and better with each turn of the page.
I love the world-building and the amazing characters, especially Tom, who carries a special place in my heart. I love everything about the Star Farmer series. I love the place or planet that was created for Tom’s world. I love the spaceship scenes, especially all the battles they seem to find their selves in. I can see them all play out in my head. What an awesome world! I can’t get enough of it and never want it to end.
Someone is always coming after Tom or the place where he lives. Now someone wants to take over the entire planet but Tom has no plans to let that happen. He will do whatever it takes to keep his planet and the people living there safe.
I highly recommend Pulsar’s Peril to all science fiction fans! Grab a copy of Pulsar’s Peril today!
Tom and his friends are back as drama and trouble seems to be happening for a few of them. A ship in trouble, a setup for takeover get closer, and get to meet a few more characters as things get hopping. Bad guys have plans and keep things interesting. I laughed and was entertained and had to see what would cause trouble this time around.
Tom and his friends continue to improve the farm and add products and services to their income stream. Haley increases her nightly fight against crime. Gliph shows more of his evil intentions. A great story.
This is a space western series about a young man who gets a homestead on a remote planet. Things start to go horribly wrong from time to time, of course. He uses his brains, his technology, and new relationships with the people around him, such as the highly intelligent Gwen. Together, they work on taming the wilderness and prevent some the more horrific things from happening around them. Anarchists have taken root, and since anarchism on a western style planet is a bad idea because you need some sort of law and order, our intrepid group is going to face more and more problems in the future. I will definitely read the next book in the series.
Not much in this book about the MC. A bunch of history about past wars and politics. There are a few exciting and interesting parts in the last few chapters. Skimmed most of the book as it didn't interest me and it was so boring. I'm still going to read the next one in this series.
1. I did not get a chance to review this book from within the Android Kindle reader. The previous volumes had no such issue. 2. I liked this book. There was less attention on Tom, Gwen, Silas, and Lola, but more on the "Smugglers " and the XOs. And in my mind, that works well as we see what all is going on "meanwhile". 3. The homesteading and micro businesses are interesting. I myself do not like the villains/anarchists. 4. There is an increasing number of Not Safe For Family moments...people being killed, interpersonal relationships (in at least one case seemingly involving SA), but mostly happening off-page.
So far I am going to keep reading. The story continues to seem to me to be written in a rather basic English fashion.
Admittedly my review if the first book in this, series, was a bit underwhelming.
To my credit, I had been reading several action-packed LitRPG series, and was still somewhat amped up from those.
However the more I read in this series the better it got for me. And while there is no evil villain decimatibg entire planets, there's still quite a bit gojng on. Add to that new technology and a hint of romance, and this, series is turning out better than I had originally thought.
I like how the author makes societal change so real in this series. This book takes the conflict that has building and clarifies the stakes for Phaeton. Anarchy (Gliph) or capitalism (Tom and Gwen) - which is going to win? I know who I am rooting for.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
An ongoing fun series. It wouldn’t be as good if you don’t start with #1! More going on as the sphere of contacts grows. I’m missing the original main couple facing a new world, challenges, and each other. I’ll hate to see this series end, but, this corner of the universe has grown too large for an easy and happily ever after conclusion.
While it’s a bit graphic at times, the storyline remains intriguing and I continue with the series. The characters are well defined and supported, when necessary, and the while there are many political entities to track in the plot, it remains interesting. Some story threads resolve at books end, and one or two will continue into the next installment.
