Brooke Felson had a hot career on Madison Avenue, hot boyfriend and a place near Central Park. She lived the good life until, piece-by-piece, her world collapsed. Determined not to be like her hippie parents who died young, Brooke had embraced the corporate world, including a steamy affair with her sexy, single boss, Lloyd. But when a jealous client demands staff changes, Lloyd turns his back on Brooke. Her carefully constructed existence begins to crumb like stale bread.
Her change in fortune derailed her plans for success. With everything she believed in stripped away, where does she find a fresh start? Shattered and rootless, she turned to her grandmother and the Monday Night Dinner Club for support. Can her friends, plus a group of sassy seniors, and a handsome writer guide her to a new path? Will grandmotherly wisdom help her find real love and rebuild her life?
I've been making up stories for as long as I can remember. When other kids wanted to be doctors, teachers or firemen, I wanted to be a writer. As soon as I could read, I began devouring books. I'd read anything I could get my hands on, but Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women" and Nancy Drew mysteries were early favorites. In school, term papers were my favorite homework. While others bemoaned the amount of work involved, I jumped in, burying myself in research and writing the document with care. Still fiction was my first love. After college and a degree in English, I fell into the world of advertising. After many years in corporate America, I went my own way. Working and raising two kids took all my energy and creativity. But when the youngest went off to school, all the stories ideas in my head came to life. Mac Caldwell and Callie Richards landed in my head and refused to leave. So I told their story. What started as one book has become six. Now I greet my characters every morning at six and jump back into their story, enjoying every minute. I'm blessed to be able to work at something I love. More than 70 books later, I'm still up at the crack of dawn, crafting the tales of the people who live in my head while nursing a cup of tea and a few pieces of black licorice.
wow another fabulous instalment to this great series, really loved this story and found this one very emotionally powerful and due to being action packed very thrilling and consuming right till the very end. Brooke is having a very hard time and her life and career as she know's it is gone, left with very few choice's turning to her Grandma Ruth for help she meet's the sexy Pres who has been crushing on Brooke from the first time he saw her. Pres is dismayed at Brookes snotty attitude towards him at first and only when they spend more time together do they discover that beneath all the misconceptions about each other they truely are a pair of Soul Mates.
Amazing story and so action packed we have a whole wonderful background of support characters you just love, with the faithful Pugs this love story was a very turbulant, emotionally draining and non-stop making this a great read. I would love to see more of the previous guy's we have meet who now make up the other halves of this great group of friends and can't wait to read the next one.
Great romantic comedy and a must read series for all romance lovers xxx
This is a gem among a whole bunch of rocks. There are a lot of so-so books out there and so-so series, but the Manhattan Dinner Club series is terrific. It showcase a group of strong women who no matter what gets thrown at them, stick together, help each other without tearing each other down and of course there is the food, pugs, and MEN! Finally we get to Brooke's story. She experienced tragedy early on in life that she used to shape herself into the exact opposite of her parents. Brooke thinks she has worked to get everything she ever wanted......the perfect job, perfect boyfriend, and perfect apartment. Funny how life has a way of helping you get your priorities straight. Love the interaction between Brooke and who she thinks is a poor dog walker but you can't always tell a book by its' cover. When Brooke is thrown a curve ball, her grandmother along with the Dinner Club, help her come to terms with her childhood and help her find her way back to where she belongs. Love the seniors and of course the Dinner Club meetings! There is romance, but it isn't just that, there is family love, friend love, Pug love, and of course self love. Great writing!
I'm not going to tell you about the book...(that's what the synopsis is for) I will however, tell you what I thought and felt as I read it.
This was another good story...not as good as number 1 but still a great book. The story line was good. Not sure why, but this book seemed to be written a little differently than 1 and 2. Brooke seemed to cry every other chapter. I didn't expect her to be so emotional. But, the dialogue flowed well and overall it was a good read. I didn't get my "normal" heart twinges as I call them when emotional conflict erupted (which was a lot if you go by Brooke's tears)
I liked Pres. He wasn't a hot alpha male, but a down to earth guy who turned his back on his families fortune and struck out on his own.
This is a multi pov book but could have used a lot more of Pres's (esp. when he is gone to Cal). Can not wait to read book 4 - Miranda's story. All in all this continues to be a great series as long as the other books are as well written as the first one.
I know I say this all the time, but we really do need those half stars here on Goodreads, because this book is a solid 4 1/2 star read.
Ms. Joachim delivers once again! This was a wonderfully written sensual romance, filled with sharp banter, love, friendship, and pugs. The author had me laughing out loud in spots, snarling in anger in others, then fanning my face during the bedroom scenes. I do like it when a book can move me to such strong emotions. Shine Your Love On Me is a fantastic addition to a highly entertaining series!
Really enjoyed this book. Not quite as much as i did the first 2, but still a great book. Brooke doesn't seem to start off as much of a strong woman, but by the end of the book she's definitely proven herself. Absolutely loved Pres. He doesn't really fall under the "alpha" title. He has strong beliefs and wants to make his own name in life and not have to follow in others footsteps. Perfect read for the beach or any vacation spot.
I was given Shine Your Love on Me for and honest review by Manic Readers
Brooke thought her life was going in the direction she wanted it going when betrayal leads to life altering changes. With her Grandmother’s help she reconnects with her deceased parents and what they believed and how they lived and find love with Pres the Dog Walker.
Pres thinks the shallow, corporate driven Brooke looks down on him, but he don’t care he just wants her in his bed. When a number of encounters prove to him that she has more layers than he thought she had, he not only wants her in his bed but also in his apartment and in his life. With his career just taking off, will he be able to convince Brooke to stick with him for the long haul.
I found the first couple of chapters bordering on boring but it did improve and get better and better as the story progressed. I really liked Pres from the beginning but Brooke took a little time to grow on me and I felt so bad for her when she was going through all that stuff while Pres was away but she really showed how strong she could be when things got incredibly tough and that impressed me. The bedroom scenes were a bit more mundane when compared to the sequel, To Love or Not to Love, but still romantic and believable. Over all, the story was well written and well worth the time it took to read it even with the minor edits needed.
