A fake engagement. A not-so-pretend kiss. And a lifelong friendship on the line….
CeCe Dupree has always played it safe. She’s happiest running her small-town café, curling up with her cat, and binge-watching Star Trek reruns. Love? That’s best left to the movies.
But when her childhood best friend—turned Hollywood heartthrob—Jayce Hunt shows up on her doorstep with an outrageous request, her quiet world flips upside down. Pretend to be his fiancée. Just for the cameras.
Only… nothing about it feels pretend. Not the way his hand lingers in hers. Not the almost-kisses that leave her breathless. Not the spine-tingling chemistry she’s trying hard to ignore. Suddenly, the line between best friends and something much deeper is dangerously blurred.
For Jayce, one white lie was supposed to save his co-star. Instead, it might cost him the only woman he’s ever loved.
Meanwhile, Abigail Preston’s picture-perfect wedding faces an unexpected threat when the past collides with the future she’s fought so hard to protect.

The Uncomplicated Cafe is a lovely and heartwarming romance. Jayce and CeCe are an endearing couple. I loved all the residents of Blessings Bay, and I was glad that the story of Abby and Logan continued. I hope I don’t have to wait too long for the next book!
I loved this one. So many wonderful characters, friendships, interesting careers, community togetherness. I love all her books. But this one was especially sweet and fun.
Rachael Bloome is one of the best voices in the clean romance genre of today, and I always know I'm in for a heartwarming treat when I get the chance to pick up one of her new titles. Her Poppy Creek series has long been one of my favorites, and Blessings Bay is quickly becoming another. The Uncomplicated Cafe was everything I hope for whenever I pick up a title by her, but honestly even more than I was expecting. The plot was beautifully written and heart wrenching, and hard to put down once I started.
Cece and Jacye's story was honestly adorable. I loved both the fake dating trope, and the famous person dating the regular person storyline. Overall, while their relationship is full of hijinks, hilarity and interesting circumstances, it was also wonderful to see them both finally face up to their feelings, and see how their friendship had grown into something else over the years. As well, I thought the author did a lovely job of showcasing how they both grew as characters as they learned to face past hurts and move on from them.
While I would absolutely recommend this title for Cece and Jayce's story alone, I have to be honest that what really made this one stand out in my eyes was the continuing story of Abby, Logan, and Max. Please do yourself a favor and have tissues handy while reading this one, as I can guarantee you're going to need them. The story went in ways I was absolutely not expecting, and it made my heart break a little in certain passages. I truly feel no other author could have given this story the ending it deserved, and it truly speaks volumes to the talent of Rachael Bloome as an author.
I won't say anything else as I don't want to spoil anything, but please do yourself a favor and pick this one up. Don't just stop there however, go ahead and read the entire series as each title is just as lovely and charming as the one before it.
Final Rating: 5/5.
Thanks so much to Rachael Bloome for allowing me to read and review this title!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the author as part of her ARC team. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and this is my honest review.
Rachael has once again captivated us with "The Uncomplicated Cafe." Her storytelling draws you in and makes you fall in love with the characters. Visiting Blessing Bay feels like returning home to catch up with old friends.
I thoroughly enjoyed Cece and Jayce's story. Their friendship began in childhood in Blessing Bay, but now Jayce is a big Hollywood star, while Cece remains in Blessing Bay, running her own bakery. There have always been sparks between them, so when Jayce asks Cece to fake an engagement for a publicity stunt, she hesitantly agrees. What starts as a pretense soon evolves into something much deeper, filled with lingering touches and nearly kisses that feel anything but fake.
Although I absolutely adore Cece and Jayce, it was Abby and Logan's story that truly tugged at my heartstrings. From the very beginning, I have loved Abby and Logan, especially their relationship with their foster son, Max. They form such a beautiful family, but a surprise visitor at the Bed & Breakfast threatens their happiness and creates drama leading up to their wedding. This situation becomes quite emotional as they navigate the challenges to find a resolution that works for everyone involved.
Rachael has a talent for crafting heartwarming stories that explore small-town romance, second chances, and family dynamics, captivating readers from the very first page. Whenever I pick up a book by Rachael Bloome, I know I'm in for a treat.
Just a warning: Have your tissues ready for this heart-wrenching story of slow-burn romance, second chances, love, faith, hope, surprises, and determination.
I recommend reading this series in order to fully appreciate and understand each character.
Rachael Bloome has done it again! The Uncomplicated Café draws us once more into the heart of Blessings Bay, where love, faith, and family intertwine in meaningful and moving ways. With three intersecting storylines, Bloome skillfully explores the complexities of relationships and the courage it takes to open your heart. Abby and Logan are preparing not only for their wedding day but also for the hope-filled journey of adopting Max, the child they already love as their own. Meanwhile, Cece—the café owner whose past has made her wary of love—grapples with the emotional walls built by her absentee father. Her best friend Jayce, a Hollywood actor burned by his parents' toxic marriage, has all but given up on the idea of lasting love. Through tangled relationships, deep-seated fears, and honest missteps, we witness the characters face the hard truths of life and love. What does it mean to truly protect your heart—and what do we miss out on when we try too hard to avoid pain? As always, Bloome delivers a story full of heart, insight, and emotional depth. Her ability to weave tough topics into gentle, hopeful narratives keeps me coming back for more. The Uncomplicated Café is a beautiful reminder that healing is possible and that love—though messy—is always worth the risk. I can't wait to see where Rachael Bloome takes us next.
This book was extremely emotional so keep a box of tissues close by. While it works as a standalone, reading the earlier books makes Abby and Logan’s journey, their wedding, and foster son Max even more meaningful.
Chapter 28 was absolutely heart wrenching and left me in tears. I honestly had no idea how the author was going to resolve it, and that uncertainty made it all the more powerful.
Balancing that heavy storyline, Jayce and CeCe bring a friends to lovers, fake engagement plotline that is lighter, funny at times, and the perfect counterpoint. They still had their own struggles, but their charm added just the right touch of relief.
This book blends heartache, healing, and hope in a way that sticks with you long after the last page.
Thank you to the author for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
The Uncomplicated Cafe is a heartwarming, small town, fake engagement romance. I love this series so much. It is not necessary, but if you have read the previous books, it will make your heart break even more for Abby, Logan and Max. I should never have doubted Ms. Bloome's ability to fix this situation. Our main couple, Jayce and CeCe are life long friends who end up with a fake engagement to help out some of Jayce's friends. I think I would like to move to Blessings Bay. It is a warm, caring, meddling community where folks seem to really care about each other. I am always sorry when my visit there has ended.
What a beautiful story. I am so full of love right now. This story is packed with a love so strong that it goes so deep, not only in your heart but you can even feel it in your bones. This story is so beautiful. I like that there is more than one couple that you are following. Rachel Bloome does a phenomenal job at making you feel each emotion like it was your own. I hate to say too much about the story because I don’t want to give anything away. I hated to put this book down but today is Sunday and Jesus comes first. I did pick this book up soon after getting home. I highly recommend this book.
This is the next in the Blessings Bay Series. It’s a heartwarming tale of CeCe and Jayce. He left to go to Hollywood, but his heart has always been in Blessings Bay with his best friend CeCe. A fake engagement with her finally makes him realize what he really wants. Also, Abigail and Logan are about to get married. But Max’s father comes back for him which threatens her happiness. Will everything work out and Max will stay in their lives? This was such a charming and heartwarming story that I had a hard time putting it down. I am looking forward to seeing what is in store with the next book in the series and I’m sure you will too.
I love this story! The town of Blessing Bay is idyllic. The back stories of each person affects how they react to friends and family. The story of Max and foster care pulls on emotional strings. Jayce and CeCe have so much history together. Abby and Logan have a deep and spiritual relationship. What starts as a publicity stunt turns careers upside down, or maybe not! This can be read as a stand alone. Yet it is richer if you read the series in order. It would be amazing to have these characters be your friends!
I enjoyed this book. It is a very heartwarming and wholesome story. I love having the chapters take different points of view, each couples story is unique to them and fits the characters well. I just loved this quote "Loving someone isn't always easy, but it's a blessing unlike any other because it transforms us, from inside out. It's worth cultivating, whatever the cost." there are no truer words.
I enjoyed reading this book. I had a hard time getting anything else done as I did not want to stop reading. I have read the previous ones and now I am ready for the next one! I love the way it ended.
Two romances in one book Abby and Logan plus decent and Jayce. I love the fact that Max would be back in Blessings Bay to stay. Maybe and we've finally got things right when they confessed their true feelings to each other.
I have read the whole series, just waiting for the last one to come up. I just loved this series. It is clean romance with all kinds of little stories going on. I would highly recommend.
