THIS WAS AWESOME!!! I really liked how the author took elements of the legend and flipped them to make it all totally different. An engaging story, and very well acted!!! There's also a Lord Flashheart reference in the making-of section, and you've got to love people who know Blackadder.

Spiteful Puppet, the production company that created "Hood - Noble Secrets", uses this tagline on its website to state its mission: "Making Excitement, Playing With Expectation". With this first audio release, this new player in the field of audio drama has lived up to its goal admirably.

While my mind tells me that this production was recorded in a studio, my ears are not buying it. What I seem to be hearing are voices from the primeval forests, medieval castles and the king's highway of nearly 800 years ago. The actors selected for the roles are well-cast and convincing in their parts and they actually sound like they are engaged in heavy argument, physical battle and frantic chases. How did the producers coax these convincing sounds from actors standing at mikes in a studio?

The actors are ably supported in creating a sonic illusion with some pretty amazing sound design and technology that convince the listener that the characters are who--and where and when--they are supposed to be.

I can tell little of the storyline here without major spoilers. Suffice to say, those of us weaned on the fame or notoriety of Robin Hood will recognize the character and the storyline, but any listener will need to hang on as the narrative takes some well-considered twists and turns to tell a story of the outlaw that is simultaneously congruent with the legend while setting it on its ear. It makes for a satisfying experience.

Another plus: this is suitable for family listening, neither childish to adult ears, nor dull to the youngsters. As someone seems to have suggested, this might be well-chosen to liven up a long drive on a holiday weekend!

This first audio adventure from Spiteful Puppet establishes plenty of confidence and sets the bar high for future productions.

Highly recommended!

An excellent audio drama with top-notch sound production and great performances, offering an intriguing twist on the Robin Hood legend while still sticking to the basic outlines. To say much more about it would spoil some of the delights the story offers. Just give it a listen!
