Forbidden Harvest

Rate this book
Halloween. My eighteenth birthday. The night my world shattered and reformed into something beautifully grotesque.I was supposed to be celebrating, lost in a whirlwind of candy and costumes. Instead, I found myself trapped in a nightmare—bound and blindfolded, at the mercy of a masked stranger.

His touch ignited every dark fantasy I’d buried, but instead of fear, I craved more. Every moment blurred the line between pain and pleasure, terror and desire. And then, the mask fell—the revelation that turned my blood cold.

It was Jared. My stepbrother.

In that instant, the twisted game we played became our reality. What started as captivity grew into something far more sinister. We’re bound by obsession, tethered by the secrets that chain us together. Now, we’re fugitives, running from a world that will never understand the darkness we share.

Our love is a haunting symphony of taboo and terror, where boundaries aren’t just crossed—they’re obliterated.

Are you brave enough to peer behind the mask and witness the depths of our depravity?

Forbidden Harvest is a dark taboo romance set at Halloween with heavy subjects that some readers may find triggering. A full list of the warnings will be found on my website. This story has no cliffhanger and ends with a HEA.

Absolutely terrible.
The worst dark romance I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading.
Only finished it because I refuse to ever DNF a book.

This is wattpad level writing.
There was absolutely no plot in this book, 95% of it is poorly written sex scenes that are horrifically cringy.

If I could give this negative stars I would.

Dark romance usually pisses me off because honestly - I'm ok with kink* but I'm not ok with abuse. Forbidden Harvest works in that sense because although it's dark and these two could do with a mountain of therapy, it's broadly consensual. What it is not, however, is well written.

The grammar and syntax worsen as the book goes on, as if whoever proofread it got bored. The characterisation of the male protagonist is minimal and of the female one, non existent. They are both so fucking melodramatic, I'm surprised I didn't burst an eyeball from rolling my eyes. Like, guys, you two quite clearly don't believe what you are doing is wrong, so can you stop bloody waxing poetic about how dark and twisted it is? I heard you the first 5000 times. Honestly. You're making taboo tedious.

There were a few main points that I felt aggravated by:

- The female main character . Apparently this proves that she's all dark and twisted (see above) except I'd call that self defence.

- WTF was the (step)dad thinking, abandoning his kid at all but especially with an addict mum? And did it never occur to this fucker that he should get his child some therapy, not just stick him on drugs?

- The references to mental illness are way off the mark. Personality disorders do not turn you into a murderer. They are not one size fits all. They may be diagnosed in children, but they really shouldn't be. And the trigger warning for "psychotic behaviour" - uh, no. Psychosis is not a synonym for fucked up. I think what the author means is probably psychopathic but that has its own problems. Say what you actually mean - obsessive? Morally dubious? Murderous? Stalking? Whatever.

* to a point, anyway

This book gave me the ick……

I have read several forbidden romances and I honestly enjoy them. This one however made me feel uncomfy. I hated the way the sex scenes were worded it just gave me the ick and the words were so repetitive omggggg. Also the wine bottle up the vagina and a beer bottle up her ass?????? Just wasn’t a fan. 🥴

Uncomfortable

Wow. That was gross. First time a Selena Winters book has left me feeling grossed out and uncomfortable. It was just smut. The story sucked. It was weird. I am disappointed, honestly. I wouldn’t recommend.

This book is a perfect example of how I will have a completely different answer if you ask me if I liked it vs. if it’s a good book. I gave to say that this is overall not a great book. The writing is okay. It’s very accessible and easy read, if a little clunky in some places. Our main characters aren’t particularly well developed while the side characters aren’t developed at all. And there isn’t really much a plot.

But I also had a damn good time and was so addicted that I finished the book in less than 2 hours. I know I read quickly, but I truly devoured this and already want more. It succeed in its intention to be a fun, smutty, taboo/forbidden dark romance. I would give it 3.5 stars just because I did genuinely have a good time reading.

This is a book where readers really do need to pay attention to trigger warnings and labels. There is a lot of explicit content and runs a whole gambit darker/more intense kinks. And we’ve also got murder, mentions of self-harm, mentions of child sexual assault, stalking, etc. This is also a story about step-siblings who are raised together, and if that even slightly bothers you then this is not the book to pick up.

Aria and Jared meet at 10 and 11 years old, respectively, when they become step-siblings. Aria’s initially excited, but it’s just the latest event in Jared’s already dark life and he enjoys making his new little sister as miserable as possible. Deep down, though, he feels protective of her and in their late teens, that morphs into possessiveness and lust. When those feelings become too overwhelming, he leaves town. Jared waits until Aria’s 18th birthday to come home and claim her properly. Properly to him means kidnapping her at a Halloween carnival, drugging her and tying her — naked — to his bed. While he hides his identity behind a mask at first, after the big reveal he’s delighted to learn that though she fights it at first, she’s every bit as dark, depraved and obsessed as he is. And heaven help anyone who gets in their way.

Oooh, this one was dark! Very heavy on triggers so watch yourself if you’re sensitive to them. The first part of the book takes place prior to the kidnapping and goes through their growing-up years. Once the claiming happens, there’s a long stretch of fabulously filthy frolicking through fields of kink. 🔥🥵🌶️ When reality returns and they have to leave their love/lust nest, it only opens up more locations for them to defile. 😉 Aria’s past was a surprise and the way her darkness and Jared’s blend was so well done. I love every pitch-black book Selena gives us and all I can say is “more please”!

Hot as Hades and highly recommend.

Review: This was my first Selena Winters book. She has other books that have somewhat the same covers. So in my head that is gives me they will have the same vibe. I truly didn't know what i was getting into when i started this book. The book as a whole flows very well as a whole. The hate and enemies to lovers trope is Very strong in this book. After the first 10 chapters i would say it have something smexy in every.... single... chapter.... so be very prepared for that. Its still tasteful at the same time being very aggressive. I will still go back and read some more of her older books now that i now what i'm getting into.

Step-sibling trope and cyberstalking to a whole new level.

Loved this book!!

OMG Such a great read! Included all of the good stuff - taboo, spice (sooo much great spice!), dark and twisted MMC & MFC. The ending was perfect, although I would be totally down with reading more of Aria and Jared's story/adventures! ❤️ I love everything that Selena writes!

I don’t know where to begin with this. I don’t like not finishing books, but I just can’t convince myself to get through this.

There is a lot to unpack with this one.

Firstly, though the intention of the book was a great idea, I’m having a hard time really clicking with the story. Of course being a taboo story in itself is great for plot, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the book should lack any substantial context or plot. I did not understand the connection between the two because there really was no build up. Having the story start where it did, didn’t give the opportunity for growth between the characters.

Secondly, and I say this with no malice whatsoever. I feel as if everything I’ve read in other books was just thrown in here and used as a crutch to make the intimacy between the two characters seem exciting. I am all for using ideas and tweaking them. That is what a lot of authors do. But this just felt like it was being shoved in my face so suddenly that I as the read got whiplash. I typically don’t have an issue with unhinged scenes, but some of these lacked structure.

Lastly, spelling and grammar errors are common and I understand that. But when you forget what or where your character is, it makes it difficult for the reader to follow along. Mistaken names, attire, and placements are hard to follow when the story progresses so quickly.

Though this book had a lot of potential in my opinion, it just was not clicking for me.

Tropes/Triggers: Stepsibings, masked man, dub con, CNC, rape role play, blood play, knife play, fire play, primal play, inappropriate use of gun, trophy and bottles, murder, captive, virgin FMC, degradation, somnophilia, past mention of CSA, felching, snowballing, breeding kink, branding; basically all the triggers
Series: Forbidden Harvest - Standalone

Synopsis
FMC Aria and MMC Jared meet as adolescents when their parents marry each other. Jared, ashamed for how he feels about his stepsister, bullies Aria relentlessly for years until they become teenagers. A tragic event caused him to become fiercely protective of her.

Jared’s intense obsession over his stepsister takes over on Aria’s 18th birthday, when he decides to claim her as his.

Review
There’s a build up of the main characters and then it’s scene after scene of spice. It’s deliciously taboo yet often over the top and unrealistic, but I will give concessions because the FMC loves dark romance novels and the MMC helps bring them to life to satisfy her. I love that the forbidden trope of step siblings was the subject of one of the books the FMC read.

Since we’re here, the Blood Ties series by AK Rose will forever be one of my favorites. It’s depraved, has lots of plot and is super spicy.

Forbidden Harvest by Selena Winters is a dark, taboo romance that delves into a complex relationship between step-siblings Aria and Jared. Jared has harbored an obsession with Aria since they were young, waiting for the day he could return and claim her when she was old enough. He comes back on a significant night, Halloween, with plans that change both of their lives forever. They feel drawn to one another in ways neither can deny, and Jared is determined to overcome any obstacle to stay by Aria's side. While she finds herself captivated by him and his fierce protection, their love faces fierce resistance from the world around them.

Set in a Halloween backdrop and teeming with themes of darkness, obsession, and forbidden love, this story explores tropes like step-siblings, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, primal play, and masked encounters. While it begins with the familiar allure of dark romance, it takes a surprising twist into deeper, more twisted territory. Much of the story revolves around the two main characters exploring their desires and fantasies, with the stakes rising as they face the need to escape toward the end.

Forbidden Harvest is perfect for readers seeking a Halloween romance that’s dark, passionate, and full of forbidden thrills.

This is a dark taboo stepbrother/stepsister romance. There is past SA by a parent to a child, knife play 🔪, blood play 🩸, primal play, kidnapping, murder, violence, graphic sexual content, fire play 🔥, mention of self-harm.

This story centers around a young woman named Aria who at the age of ten meets her new stepbrother Jared. There is animosity between them at first but it’s because Jared likes Aria. He does murder her boyfriend because he was with Aria. Aria admits that she has had feelings for her stepbrother Jared. They begin to have a taboo relationship without their parents finding out until later on. Jared assaults a guy who tries to touch her. Jared leaves but continues to watch Aria by the use of a computer. Aria reads dark romance books and Jared vows to help live out her fantasies that she reads about. He takes her to a cabin and he chases her and has sex with her. He uses fire on her by request. He also uses a knife 🔪 on her as well. Their relationship gets found out and he is arrested. They end up running away together and they do get married.

This book is very very dark but it was a good book to read for Halloween 🎃

🌶🌶🌶 - Spice Level

Jared and Aria meet as children when his mother is found dead and his stepfather takes him in. They are 11 and 12 at the time. Jared starts off from the beginning being mean to Aria until her 18th birthday. By age 17, Jared is starting to see Aria in a different light and has to move away because she's too tempting. He waits until she's 18 to start his plans to be with her.

The night of her 18th birthday, it's on for him. He's been making plans and stalking her for years now. The smeggsy was super spicy, like trigger warnings all abound. There's even DP with many regularly found items in the home 🍾. He's also unalived threats to their love for her. These two are pretty shocking if you aren't prepared by reading the trigger warnings. In the end, they run off together, leaving some mayhem in their wake. I enjoyed this story and would recommend this book to those who like step siblings' romances with a dark side.

⚠️ Please read all trigger warnings ⚠️

TROPES:
~dark/spooky read
~stepsiblings
~kidnapping/forced proximity
~masked man
~dual virgins
~stalker

The main characters are stepsiblings. When they were younger, the hero killed the heroine's boyfriend because he was jealous. Since then he's watched over her. On the day of the heroine's 18th birthday, he comes back into her life, kidnapping her with a mask on so she wouldn't know who he was. Kinky things ensue. ;)

I didn't like this one as much as Selena's other books. I didn't feel the chemistry between the leads. If you're looking for some kinky shit, this is your book! If you're looking for a book with substance, I'd stay away from this one.

SAFETY:
dual virgins
OM drama/no OW
no cheating/sharing
triggers: childhood SA by a family member. kidnapping, stalking, murder. dubcon/CNC
kinks: BDSM, blood play, branding, breeding, CNC, degradation, dirty talk, exhibitionism/public sex, hand necklace, knifeplay, praise, primal, rough sex, somnophilia, spitting, gun play, DP with an object, snowballing, felching, fire play

Read the trigger warning. Believe the trigger warning. Jared is not a well individual, psychologically. In face when the story starts he’s not particularly nice to Aria, this is explained and the reason isn’t sweet or kind or soft. Jared’s feelings toward Aria grow as he does and not in the healthiest of ways. He does understand this and while he does take a step back he never really backs off. Aria is innocent and perhaps a tad too forgiving. The way the two come together isn’t nice or sweet and much of the story is, shall we say, the two getting to know each other in a physical manner. Told from dual POV I had to rate this for what it was, for what it said it would be and the way it was delivered. It was over the top and a bit much but for what it was, it was well done.

My beloved Selena Winters…. What did you do?!
This book exceeded my limits for “willful disbelief” that all fiction usually has… we accept a lot in books that we don’t in life, and this book surpassed my limit (which is pretty fucking high).

This book felt like 50 lbs of shit in a 10 lb bag!
How many kinks can we shove into one book? How many inanimate objects can we shove into her? How did you think that would work with 2 virgins?! Why did you feel the need to cram all of this into 1 book?!

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️/5
The sheer volume of spice in this book warrants this rating, but at least 50% of it was overkill!
Primal/knife/blood/fire play, bondage/restraints, CNC, taboo step siblings (constantly mentioned), mile high club, exhibitionism, and I’m sure I’m missing things…

Twisted spoiler

Twisted and dark spice 4/5
I rooted for them, I never thought I could I love taboo stepbrother books but usually the parents marry when the brothers are grown so they're not raised as siblings, not the case here.
Super taboo they're 10/11 when they become step siblings.
Triggers on everything from kidnapping, primal play, knife play use of "objects" for penetration,murder..
Supposedly he's diagnosed and medicated for a personality disorder so you fear hes crazy but shes as dark as he is.
They find an HEA by fleeing but he kills two more people before the book ends and it's just not justifiable.
In other dark books they kill bad guys, I cant accept his logic.
I was hoping for change but I'm left waiting for him to get passed, kill again and get arrested :-(

Excited to Disappointmemt

Unfortunately this book missed the mark for me. I had this book on my TBR for some time and was excited to read it, and what better time than October, leading up to Halloween.

The story started off okay with some background on our characters and how they met and how the obsession kind of formed. Then the kidnapping by a masked 'man' occurred and I was excited to see where this forbidden romance went.

It was just all too much and not enough at the same time...I nearly DNFed with only 10% left, but ended up skimming the remaining.

I'm all for the forbidden step-sib romance and even the possessive unaliving bit but I cringed at a few chapters...they didn't come across as sexy, just weird. 🤷

Jared and Aria Wilkins.

Jared was a young child suffering till his mother passed. He moved in with his father new family Elaine his new stepmother and her daughter Aria, his step- sister. Jared was mean to Aria because of hid emotional feelings. Aria wanted her step- brother to like her, she knew his mother passed away, from drugs.. As time goes Jared was obsessed with his feelings for Aria and Aria have feelings for Jared, that was love for her only. This is a male Jared and female Aria, relationship. I recommend this book. One of my October reads, but good for anytime. I enjoyed this story.

HAPPY SMUTTY HALLOWEEN! Loved the idea, but this will be the first time you'll hear me complaining that it was TOO MUCH SMUT, TOO LITTLE PLOT. In other words, take this as a guilty pleasure treat for all you readers who like it a bit dark and hey, we have consented NON-CON.

There's really no plot here, just a lot of fucking, it's like every chapter the author just tries to think of imaginative ways to fuck in every room, public space and etc....

It's a wet dream, literally.

But, alas, I still prefer my smut with brains, and that means, a proper plot with meat and not paper thin characters I can't blow off from the palm of my hand.

it was okay but it's not my favourite selena book. the smut was really good but i got annoyed by the need to call each other "stepbrother" and "stepsister" every other sentence. yes we get it. you're stepsiblings and it's taboo by society standards. no need to continuously mention it.

i was also disappointed by aria to be honest. she acts like she's just as dark and twisted as jared is, while in reality she just killed her abuser. jared however will take the life of everyone who even remotely looks at aria. that's being twisted.... i expected more of them being unhinged together but they didn't do anything together but fuck and call each other stepsibling.

Very similar to the carnival books 📚

So it was okay. lol Definitely enjoyed the obsession from Jared and how he stalked her and either beat up people or straight up 🔪🩸 for Aria. I, however, can't get down with the foreign object fetish they had - she was a virgin but then can fit a wine bottle in her kitty, lol riiight 😆. I definitely had to just enjoy the ride and the craziness.

Also thought it was funny that Jared was just a natural coder with no training, found a job insanely fast without graduating HS, and made money (somehow) to afford them getaway passports. Overall, it is extremely over the top but entertaining.

I've been going through Selena's list of books, eating them up. This one fell a little for me. Aria fought her feels a little too long for me and also alot of repeated lines during the smexy times for me. Like everyone of them had the same kinda question and answers. IFKYK. I did enjoy their story though. Jared suffered alot as a child until he came to live with his dad and stepmother and stepsister. He "hated" Aria for awhile, but things started to change for him and he became obsessed with Aria. She also had feeling for him, but fought it for a long while. I loved that they got their HEA as twisted as it was. Looking forward to reading more of this author's books.

I really wanted to love this book! Story stared out promising but when they got to 18th birthday it just turned in to non stop F#$%ing and there inner thought didn't go hand in hand with what they were doing. Lack of details! The characters appearances were not described , the surrounding were not described. I'm ok with using imagination to bild the room but I need some small descriptions to get in to the the authors mine set

This book is definitely for someone who enjoys rough sex, every hole with unconventional objects. I finished the book but don't have anyone to recommend it too.

Ugh, what can I say? There's just something we love about a man in a mask. We know that we shouldn't. It's bad. We don't know who he really is, right? He could be anyone. But to find out that he's obsessing about you. Stalking you. Devouring every bit of information about you? Oh somehow this makes it all that much better. (In a fictional world, that is.)

Let the darkness come out to play in a world of cyberstalking and madness. Give in to the pleasure and definitely check your triggers at the door!

Literally anything Selena writes, I’m going to rapidly devour it, like it’s my last breath. She doesn’t fail to suck you in to a story. Jared and Aria’s story starts when they were 10 & 11 years old, meeting for the first time under the tragic circumstance of his mother’s passing. From there we get a timeline to Jared’s developing “feelings” for Aria, to put it mildly. If you have any triggers, as they are listed, then don’t read. But, if you are like me and have none, then I promise you will not be disappointed.
