💖The one you never got over
Return to Starlight Bay, the first Man of the Month Club small town. Revisit old friends and fall in love with all new book boyfriends in this romantic seaside town full of Happily Ever Afters.
Kylie, Matt and Liam could be featured in their very own Hallmark movie and I’d definitely watch. High school sweethearts reunited, a cute kid, an interfering and wise Grandma and a picture perfect winery. This story checks all of the boxes! Well done.
Matt and Kylie run into each other once again after years of their break up. He’s back in town to run his late uncle’s winery, he is divorced and a single dad. She’s engaged and is getting married soon, her venue happens to be the winery. So now they’re seeing a lot of each other, planning the wedding, but also just getting acquainted and remembering their friendship. There is a lot of things in the way now, will they get a second chance.
This is a second chance with the one that got away romance, super quick and fun read!
Starlight Bay hasn’t changed much since he’s been away. But Matt’s world turns upside down and no mistake faced with the one that got away…Well Kylie’s right here and it’s to plan her upcoming wedding at his winery with all its finery…She’s betrothed? He’s too late,he did hesitate! He’s a single dad egad! But he’s never forgotten his love for Kylie , she’s ever so smiley …usually but shouldn’t she be happier than this ? She’s supposed to be planning a wedding of bliss. He knows her better than he thinks because at this moment she thinks her fiancé stinks! Leaving her in the drink well the wine-ry to choose what they want for their upcoming nuptials. They share a running joke while pouring the wine Pour Timing they remember saying it all the time . Happy days so sublime .She’s irate and he’s woah mate. But secretly he’d like her as his mate if only… he’s lonely ,though he’s only just realised it . He has his son to look after because of a bad divorce . No remorse there but his son wants loving care so he’s moved home to mum n dad and the winery left him by his uncle . He’s loved Kylie forever but he wasn’t clever in telling her so. But since her fella was a jerk and all it was his Pour Timing ( couldn’t resist) this bloke was a joke and got his come up pence ,she’s going nowhere . She never wanted to up sticks and he knew it but he wanted the wedding and so did his cad of a dad for a trophy wife ,that’s not what she wants from her life. Matt and his son Liam are the perfect family but for one thing ,a wife and mother who makes their hearts sing and what joy that brings with it will be exquisite. There’s only one woman can fit that slot ,it’s always been Kylie . He wouldn’t change having his son but Kylie has always been the one. I had tears with this one ,I don’t mind saying and they’re so cute and astute is her sister Sarah she could see . They were meant to be . Pour Timing ? No it’s perfect family time and that’s sublime ,like fine wine this storyline is divine . Not overselling cos this book IS compelling a wonderfully well executed storytelling with such aplomb …who have you ever tried wine made with plum? It is rather yum and so is Matt …according to Kylie and all that..
This second chance at love romance easily captured my interest with its entrancing and intriguing characters and storyline. Both Matt and Kylie have had little luck with love and relationships since they broke up fifteen years ago. Part of the problem was their immaturity, the other was following separate paths. Hers lead her back to Starlight Bay, the place where she is the happiest, near her friends and family. His path led him to spend all of his time pursuing an impossible dream and neglecting his relationship with Kylie. Pride, doubts and fear kept him from returning to Starlight Bay and trying again with Kylie.
Now, after a divorce and the recent death of his uncle, Matt is finally back in his home town with his young son, Liam. Taking over his uncle’s winery has him feeling a bit of trepidation, but learning that the winery will be hosting the upcoming wedding of Kylie, his Kylie, has him ready to bolt. Young Liam’s happiness to finally be near his grandparents and not wanting to disappoint his parents or disrespect his uncle’s wishes are reasons enough to stay, even if he has to bury any feelings he has for Kylie. He didn’t count on everyone in Starlight Bay telling him that they disliked Kylie’s fiancé for her or that they wished he and Kylie would rekindle their romance. Their reunion leads to sorting through the memories of their past, as well as a lot of soul searching on both sides. Kylie has known for a while that something was wrong and missing in her relationship with her fiancé. Having Matt, the love of her life, back in their home town, sparks some much needed self-reflection and questioning of what and who she wants in her future. Family and friends alike encourage both Kylie and Matt toward each other. Let’s just say that they are very direct, well-meaning and determined to get Kylie and Matt back together, and young Liam is soon on board with these efforts too.
This very entertaining, heartstring-tugging book, is a very enjoyable read, and one I am very happy to recommend.
This book understands something very specific: the kind of love you never really get over.
Pour Timing is soaked in small-town familiarity, unresolved feelings, and the quiet ache of a second chance you never thought you’d be brave enough to take. From the very first page, it’s clear that this isn’t about rediscovering attraction — it’s about confronting what never went away.
The second-chance romance here is deeply emotional because it feels earned. Time has passed. Lives have changed. Mistakes were made on both sides. And yet, that pull — the one you try to pretend doesn’t exist — is still there, humming under every interaction. This is the love that lingers in the background of your life, no matter how hard you try to move forward.
The single-dad element adds a layer of tenderness and realism that grounds the entire story. His priorities are clear, his heart already divided, and watching someone slowly re-enter that carefully balanced world is incredibly compelling. Love here isn’t impulsive — it’s intentional. Protective. Chosen.
The slow burn is chef’s kiss. It takes its time building tension through glances, banter, and flirty lines that land just a little too close to home. And when the story finally tips from restraint into something undeniable? It’s electric. All that buildup makes the shift feel natural, inevitable, and incredibly satisfying.
Small-town energy plays a huge role here — the history, the shared memories, the way everyone knows your business before you do. It adds pressure, but it also adds warmth. This is a place where love stories don’t disappear; they wait.
At its heart, Pour Timing is about timing, yes — but it’s also about courage. About choosing to risk your heart again, even when you already know how badly it can hurt. Especially then.
I finished this book feeling nostalgic, hopeful, and a little emotional — the kind of feeling that only comes from a story that reminds you that sometimes, the right love just needed the wrong timing to make it sweeter the second time around.
This quick second chance small town romance will melt readers hearts. Ms. Jax has an established fan in me. Though this book is fairly short, it, like all of Ms. Jax’s books, gives readers a complete story. Readers will not feel rushed or like they did not get the full story because of the length. Ms. Jax does that well. I have yet to read a story of hers that I felt I needed more. This book also includes one of my favorite tropes. A great kid can make a story for me. This book has a really great kid. Matt Byrne is a single dad. He is moving back to his hometown of Starlight Bay with his son, Liam. Matt recently inherited a winery from his uncle. Though Matt is happy to be home, he is not sure he is cut out to be a winery owner.
Another problem Matt has is that his ex-girlfriend, Kylie Johnson, is planning to have her wedding at the winery. Matt, recently divorced, did not know if he could handle watching Kylie get married or help her plan the wedding. The whole town was happy Grape Expectations would stay open. They were willing to help in any way they could, especially Kylie and her sister. Kylie had being have doubts about her relationship and after spending time with Matt and his family realized that she deserved more. Both Kylie and Matt had troubled relationships after they broke up. Maybe it’s because they were meant for each other. I loved all the characters in this story. I always enjoy visiting Starlight Bay.
This is a cute story of first loves, breakups and getting a second chance.
Matt Byrne is 34 and a single dad to his 8 year old son Liam. Not what he had planned but after his divorce and his uncle's passing he returns to his hometown of Starlight Bay. Once he's back he finds out his uncle left him Grape Expectations, A Starlight Bay Winery. So one of the first events he will be involved in is his ex-girlfriend's engagement party.
Kylie Johnson is a freelance writer. She is very much a small town girl and came back after college.
Matt and Kylie were high school sweethearts and oh so much more but things changed when they went off to college and their goals were different. But now being back in the same town there's still chemistry between them.
When Kylie finds out her fiancee Patrick is planning on moving them away and is spending more time working then being together and realizes how much they have changed and want different things, she ends the engagement.
Matt and Kylie realize they still care about each other. Liam really likes Kylie and the feelings are mutual for Kylie to Liam. I've loved you since I was a stupid kid who didn't know anything about how to love you right. I didn't understand what it meant to show up. To stay. To fight for someone even when it wasn't easy"
Matt and Kylie were inseparable in high school, certain they’d spend their lives together. But after just one semester of college, life took them in different directions. Matt pursued a dream of playing in the NFL, only to find himself stuck in an unfulfilling marriage and eventually raising his son, Liam, on his own. When an unexpected phone call pulls him back to his hometown of Starlight Bay, he finds himself confronting his past—and maybe his future.
After college, Kylie returned to her roots and finally felt like she belonged again in the Bay. Now a freelance writer, she’s engaged to Patrick, a man who made big promises early in their relationship. But Patrick doesn’t quite fit into the small-town life Kylie has come to cherish.
This heartfelt novella follows Matt and Kylie as they navigate the changes in their lives and face long-buried emotions. As they reconnect, the bond between Matt, Kylie, and little Liam creates heartwarming moments. Readers will also enjoy seeing the supporting characters shine.
If you're a fan of second chances, small-town charm, and a touch of romance over a glass of wine, this story is a perfect pick.
Their Destined Second Chance - Kylie had been having doubts about getting married and the overall relationship between herself and her fiancé, so recent events and the return of the love of her life, helped her make the decision everyone already saw coming. Matt realised after seeing Kylie again that he had never really gotten over her, so finding out she was about to get married really hit hard. Kylie and Matt only meant to rekindle their friendship, but their feelings for each other grew the more time they spent together.
Kylie and Matt decided to embark on a relationship with the support of their family and friends, as being together again felt right for them. Luckily, finding out their lives were about to change solidified Kylie and Matt’s decision to take a chance on having a future together. This is a sweet enjoyable romance story, with wonderful characters and humour-filled moments, that left me feeling happy by the time I finished reading the book. Grab a copy of this book now and you won’t regret your decision.
I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
What can I say except this is definitely one of my Favourite Carolina Jax books x
I just Loved it!
A second chance romance for an adorable couple. A Single Dad (swoon) with the cutest little Son Liam.
Matt and Kylie were Besties who became Boyfriend and Girlfriend and loved the Bones of each other. When it came to College they went away together but that didn't work out. Matt wanted to progress his life and all Kylie wanted was to return to her life in Starlight Bay. They went their separate ways.
Matt had been living away all this time but returned back when his Uncle passed away and left him his Winery. They had spent a lot of their childhood there and had great memories of the place together.
Matt's first order of Business is a meeting with Kylie and her Fiance Patrick for their up and coming Wedding which was being held on the Premises that Matt now owned. That was as awkward as you can Imagine and their story began again from there.
I won't say anymore but between their renewed romance, the side characters who were just so good, this book is one of the Good ones with a bit of Spice thrown in for good measure!
I was completely caught up in Kylie’s and Matt’s reunion romance, along with an adorable Liam, in Pour Timing. Once upon a time, this couple thought they’d end up together forever, but differing dreams and reality broke them up. Fifteen years later, Matt is back in town after inheriting his uncle’s winery… the venue for Kylie’s upcoming wedding. Between memories, doubts, and an interfering town, Matt and Kylie will need to decide what the right future is for them.
Pour Timing by Carolina Jax is short yet packed full of emotions. Watching Kylie and Matt realize that what they felt for each other never ended, and Kylie knowing she deserved more than what she had with the man she was planning to marry, gave them an emotional reunion and some decisions to be made. If you love a well-written romance with unresolved issues from the past and the chance to get love right this time around, then this romance is perfect for you.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the author's team via Booksprout, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This story checks all the right boxes. Second chance romance-✔️, highschool sweethearts-✔️, single dad-✔️, small town romance-✔️, I could go one... Matt and Kylie were the "IT" couple until life and Ambition got in the way. When death (ironically) brings Matt back to Starkight Bay, Kylie is set to marry Patrick. Yup, but when they see eachother again after all the years, time devolves and its just "them" again.
The story may not always be as straight forward as it seems, and change may be on the horizon. How will Matt and Kylie weather the winds of change this time, with little Liam in toe? I loved the main characters, and the side characters (especially Matt's mom, Kylie's sister and his best friend - Danny). This group certainly is a handful, of the very best kind! Grab your copy quick and join the fun... don't miss out. Can't wait for more happenings in Starlight Bay.
I voluntarily reviewed a gift copy of this book. Happy Reading Y'all 📚
Pour Timing by Carolina Jax is a compact, emotionally charged second-chance romance set in the cozy, meddlesome town of Starlight Bay. Fifteen years after a heartbreak, Kylie is on the verge of a wedding when Matt returns with an inheritance—the family winery—pulling their carefully laid plans into question. The reunion crackles with unresolved feelings, doubts, and the ache of what might have been, all infused with warmth and a steady dose of small-town charm. The supporting cast—adorable Liam, crafty Kathleen, and the unexpectedly decent Patrick—breathe life into the town, making it feel like home and just a little bit nosy in all the right ways. The pacing is brisk yet never thin, delivering genuine emotion and a satisfying arc without dragging on the drama. If you crave a well-written romance with past wounds and a real chance to get love right this time, Pour Timing hits the sweet spot. A refreshing, heartwarming read for fans of heartfelt, sunshine-soaked second chances.
Man, Starlight Bay feels more and more like home with each new characters I meet, and I'm so happy to be on this journey with this amazing group of authors!
Carolina gave me so much small town charm, and I smiled throughout the entire book. The town all being busybodies and poking Matt and Kylie together was too cute! Especially Kathleen; she was so crafty but transparent, and I honestly couldn't get enough.
I really liked Matt and Kylie together also! And I love that Carolina didn't make Patrick be a horrible jerk. He was probably my favourite secondary love interest just for that; I appreciate a man who understands and doesn't take anger and frustration out on their exes. Danny saying to never trust someone without a proper last name made me snort so hard, though, as it's something I've said myself 😂
Many thanks to Carolina for letting me come home a little early!
Ms. Jax has written a wonderful "just right" novella about Matt and Kylie getting their second chance at love in Starlight Bay. I am always impressed when an author can fit all the necessities for a great story into a novella-length collection of words. This story has everything it needs: a charming small town (the clever business names are a hoot!), main characters with meaningful history, and a host of secondary characters who add that little bit extra. Matt's son Liam is an absolute star, and Matt's extended family (especially his matchmaking mother) keeps things real. Watching Kylie and Matt find their way to the adult relationship they weren't ready for in high school was truly a treat. I'm looking forward to reading more great stories set in Starlight Bay! I was given an ARC of this book and volunteered to write a review.
Take me to Grape Expectations in Starlight Bay now!! I loved Kylie and Matt! The perfect single dad, small town, second chance romance with the cutest 8 year old ever. High school sweethearts left for college together but after a semester, Ky knew she belonged in Starlight Bay. But Matt was hoping to be drafted in the NFL. They drifted apart, and Matt ends up having Liam with his ex wife. It takes years and the death of his u Cole and inheriting the family winery Grape Expectations to return to Starlight Bay. But Kylie is engaged (to someone who takes her for granted). Soon, tensions are high, and these two, you can feel the love they still have for each other! Liam was the cutest most intuitive 8 year old, and Matt’s mom knew they belonged together. I love Kylie’s sister Sadie, and can’t wait for her and Danny’s story. The spice was great!!
Absolutely adorable second chance romance novella.
Matt & Kylie are amazing, relatable characters that I adored for the start. They are great on their own but I loved watching as their flame reignited and the banter that inevitably followed. I liked how Kylie’s story, (her relationship with Patrick) played out. It didn’t involve any unnecessary drama just a realisation that things aren’t right which lead to a very mature conversation. 🥰
There are plenty of gorgeous side characters but my fave is Sadie. ♥️ Not only is she funny but so kind and supportive and gives the best advice. I really want to read her story.
I loved the level of spice too. It was sensual and sexy. 🌶️
A fantastic quick read full of love, humour and a dash of spice.
Thank you, Carolina & Man of the Month Club, for the arc.
Pour Timing is a good second-chance romance story!
What you get.... ♡Small Town Romance ♡Second Chance Romance ♡Single Dad ♡High School Sweethearts ♡The One You Never Got Over ♡No Third Act Breakup
Matt and Kylie were high school sweethearts but college was a lot and they broke up. Years later Matt is back home in Starlight Bay with his son Liam.
Kylie is engaged to another man but their relationship is fizzling out. I'm glad Patrick didn't make a ton of drama when she broke things off. Honestly, he wasn't a great finance. Didn't make time for her and was always gone for work.
Matt and Kylie have great chemistry and they pick up where they left off years ago.
Their story is full of love, lots of laughs, and steamy adventures! I hope we get more plus a book for Sadie and Danny!
Starlight Bay is a small town with a big heart. Just like the MMC, Matt. He has a big heart and has already had it broken and really doesn't want to deal with heartbreak again especially now that he has a son named Liam. When he gets the phone call that his uncle has passed away, he comes back to town...not expecting his uncle's will to change the course of his life forever. Kylie loves Starlight Bay. This is her home and she never wants to leave. But her fiance has other ideas. So that leaves Kylie with some decisions to make. Seeing her ex boyfriend, Matt complicates things even more. Then helping him with a party puts them back to spending time together. Will Kylie and Matt find their way back to each other? Or will Kylie marry another man? Will the town help show them that second chances can happen and that the whole town supports them? 5⭐ 3🌶
Matt and Kylie fell in love when they were teenagers however that love wasn’t strong enough to overcome their different visions of the future one where Matt wanted to play professional football and Kylie wanted a life in their hometown, Starlight Bay.
It will be years later before they see each other again when Matt, who is now divorced and a single father to his son Liam, return to Starlight Bay to take over his uncle’s winery. As fate would have it, Kylie is engaged, and the wedding is being held there. Seeing each other again brings up all the feelings they have been trying to deny but will this be their second chance or are they destined for heartbreak once again.
Not only did I enjoy the rekindling of Matt and Kylie’s love but her relationship with Liam was adorable as they realize what and who truly matters.
Pour Timing is Book 1 of Man of the Month, Return to Starlight Bay series. It's a short and steamy, OTT, opposites-attract, second-chance, small-town romance. Matt is a 34-year-old hunky single dad to the adorable, 8 year-old Liam. He has returned home to Starlight Bay after inheriting his late Uncle's winery. Kylie is sweet, sassy, and impulsive. She is set to be married at his winery. They were high school sweethearts who broke up in college. When they see each other again, feelings resurface. Kylie realizes that she's not happy with her current fiancée. Will these two get their second chance at their first love? Their chemistry was insane and the ending was so happy. Please tell me Danny and Sadie are getting a book! I loved it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
тropeѕ: 🍷Small town Gosh, I wish Starlight Bay actually existed! The town itself is romantic: the family-owned restaurants, the beach, the sun, the warm nights.
💍Second chance 15 years later

💖The one you never got over Matt and Kylie are high school sweethearts but different dreams separated them.
Matt Byrne (age 34) is now the owner of Grape Expectations, A Starlight Bay Winery, after his Uncle Paul passed. He never expected to move back home. Kylie Johnson doesn’t make plans, she just moves as things happen.
This is a sweet story with a bit of a slow burn (until it's not!). A perfect read to bring in the season of Spring Love. Little Liam is a cutie and I wished for just one more chapter of this little family!
Oh...Holy cow. It's been a hot minute since I've had a Carolina story in my hand and let me tell you, I missed it. This just proves why she's one of my favorite writers.
Let's start off with how real Kylie and Matt are, and Liam! Actually, everyone is! But the love between these two, epic! I mean, come on, high school sweethearts that lost their way only to find it again, just perfect. And the whole ice cream scene, oh that had me cracking up, but that's where I fell utterly under their spell and didn't want to let go. These two capture your hearts and weave you into their tale!
I can't wait for more...I mean, I always demand more from Carolina, and this is no different. But really, I need more Matt and Kylie....sprinkled in with some more Liam!
4.25/5 stars and the perfect wee novella sized palate cleanser. Carolina's books I always love, and when you need short, delicious and bite size spice that has the desired effect, Carolina delivers.
Matt and his son Liam return to Starlight Bay on the death of his Uncle. He is divorced from Liam's Mum but returning home stirs those memories of the girl he left behind to chase a dream, Kylie. However Kylie is engaged to someone else, and the wedding is being planned to take place at the winery he just inherited! However time may have passed, but feelings remain. It has Kylie needing to look at the man she is engaged too, and finding that second chance at love, maybe?
Thank you Carolina, you always give me what I need in the moment.
Kylie, Matt and Liam stole my heart. This was a fantastic small town novella with all the swoon.
Matt returns to his hometown with his sweet son, and finds out his family winery, that he's set to take over, is hosting the wedding of his former love. Kylie also happens to be the girl become woman that he never got over. Their second chance at love was the slow burn I needed. I adored their family and friends, and even little Liam, pushing these two back into each other's arms, where they belonged all along.
Don't let the fact that this is a novella deter you because Carolina Jax gives you a story packed full of small town meddling, all the love and a second chance romance that will leave you feeling satisfied by the end.
They made mistakes, both had expectations that were too big for kids barely into adulthood. But 15 years later they have lived, they have tried to love and they have realised that nothing actually compares to their first love, the one love they still have. I enjoyed that although they are both wary about rekindling their relationship and the expectations that brings, there is no way they can ignore the chemistry or the pull that still exists between them. Kylie and Matt have a very sexy, steamy chemistry, but I really like the sweet, fun bond that Kylie has with Liam. It's easy, natural and beautiful. I also look forward to the fireworks between Sadie and Danny - do we get their book? A lovely visit to Starlight Bay, which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Matt is returning to Starlight Bay due to inheriting his late uncle’s winery. Ironically, he is returning home in time to host the wedding for his HS sweetheart & first love, Kylie. Oh dear!
This one was more straightforward than most which I appreciated. Kylie knows early on that her current relationship is not right. She never stopped loving Matt even though he is the cause for their split. Ugh - young males who dream big! He left town to pursue big dreams and never looked back and they both moved on.
BUT Matt is now divorced and a single dad - love that trope!!
This is a sweet, small town romance. This has been an entertaining Man of the Month series.
I voluntarily requested and read an advance reader copy.
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the second chance romance between Matt and Kylie. Matt returns to his hometown after a divorce to raise his son there. Matt is also left a brewery by his late uncle. Matt is trying to figure out how to run the brewery when he sees Kylie, his high school sweetheart. Kylie is getting married and is having the wedding at the brewery, so Matt asks Kylie and her sister to help him figure things out. Kylie is having doubts about getting married and when she sees Matt again, she realizes she still has feelings for him. I liked this book. It was a sweet second chance romance with a lot of steamy scenes thrown in. I really liked Matt's son, he stole the scenes and was too cute. Good one.
