Vignettes and Pictures That Resonate
Three artfully crafted vignettes. I was especially attracted to the author’s story about her father and uncle barbecuing in her Oakland, California neighborhood when she was a young girl. I got carried away by the smells and the sauce and the memories it called up. The piece about her teacher was also clearly heartfelt and offered up a a hurtful collision about innocently crossing racial lines . Ms. Bize-Boutte paints pictures that resonate.
