It took an injured dog to bring them together, but it’s going to take a miracle -- and maybe some dog treats -- to help them find love.
Mabel I’ve always been a little different. Some people might call me eccentric, but I prefer to think of myself as free spirited. Now that I’m divorced, I’m done pretending to be someone I’m not. I move to Starlight Bay, buy a house with a view of the beach, and spend my days writing cozy mysteries and offering tarot card readings to tourists. Everything is going great, at least until my rescue dog Esmerelda gets injured...
Joshua As a veterinarian in a town that caters to tourists, I see a lot of weird things. But this is the first time I’ve ever had to cut a dog out of a princess costume. Apparently it’s “Dress Up Your Dog Day” and this poor pup’s wacky owner thought it would be fun to celebrate – at least until her dog went after a squirrel and got injured.
Mabel and I couldn’t be more different, but the more I run into her the harder it is to remember why that matters. The curvy beauty is making me feel things I’ve never felt before. I’ve avoided relationships for fifty years, but suddenly I’m thinking about engagement rings and happily ever after, but it's going to take a lot of convincing to show this independent woman that I love her just the way she is.
“Heavy Petting” is a midlife, opposites attract, instalove romance with a grumpy older doctor, a spunky sunshine writer, and a matchmaking mutt who’s determined to finally have a family. If you enjoy fun romantic comedies with eccentric characters over forty, download this book today.
This book is part of the Man of the Month club series. Return to Starlight Bay, the first Man of the Month Club small town. Revisit old friends and fall in love with all new book boyfriends in this romantic seaside town full of Happily Ever Afters.
Mabel loves her dog, she is her baby, even when she is being a tiny terror or a scheming, matchmaking little furball, but can you really be angry with her? She just wants her human to be happy and loved by someone who accepts her for exactly who she is. Joshua is stunned the first time he meets Mabel, she is gorgeous, but a little quirky and a lot crazy....or maybe a lot quirky and a little crazy. I love that he realises whilst she may be quirky and a little different, she has a heart of gold, is funny, totally loves her dog and those quirks? He finds them endearing! A big, over the top, dramatic but very funny visit to Starlight Bay, visits with Mabel and Esmeralda are never going to be dull and Joshua doesn't disappoint as he embraces the crazy as he falls head over tail for both Mabel and Esmeralda. A lively and entertaining addition to the series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
It must be true that opposites attract, because Joshua and Mabel couldn't be more opposite if you tried. But perhaps that's why they worked so well together. I loved that Joshua accepted Mabel for who she was and didn't judge her, or try to change her in any way. And he loved her dog. Who sounds like she was ugly but in the cutest way possible. I also loved that Mabel stood up to her mom they way she did and that she didn't back down from pressing charges on her ex. It was refreshing to see her standing up for herself and being strong. Such an enjoyable story.

I really loved this story in till the name slip up
Dr. Joshua was treating his new patient Esmeralda a small mixed breed dog when he was surprised by her owner Mabel. Sparks flew immediately but Mabel was cautious after her divorce. Joshua kept running into Esmeralda and her owner and finally asked Mabel on a date. He fell first and was mindful of Mabel's quirky views on life and her devotion to Esmerelda. So the hunky Vet jumped right into action after Esmeralda was injured. Things went off for me when the author asked if Mabel found be in the wedding...oops! Wrong name of course the bride is part of the wedding.
Mabel is newly divorced and ready for a change so she moves to Starlight Bay with her darling matchmaking dog Esmeralda. When Esmeralda needed a Vet for an unusual emergency Mabel headed to the local small town Vet Joshua and sparks fly. This is a cute small town, opposites attract, midlife romance with a grumpy/sunshine twist. The story is fun with a matchmaking dog, a divorcee writer, and a keeps to himself veterinarian. The writing is good, the characters are believable and they get their happily ever after. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Mabel is a strong and quirky FMC who doesn’t back down from what’s right in front of her. Joshua is stunned to find an injured dog in a dress but a stunning owner he has an attraction to. This story was charming and full of interesting moments between these two and her dog. I really enjoyed their dynamic which made this a fun read.

‘Dear God, she was one of those nuts who dressed up her pets...’
Mabel’s a little more than eccentric, with a dog that’s so ugly she’s cute, and Joshua is a no nonsense vet too busy with his practice to have any pets or relationships of his own. Until a dog park incident puts two completely different people not looking for love in each other’s paths. What follows is a slightly quirky, yet highly enjoyable read.

It might have been a bit rough at first when she met Joshua but his caring personality won her over. It is nice that he accepted her as she is. I'm glad they fell in love and that her ex and mother got a little of what they deserved.
The author has given us a heartwarming story that pulls us into the lives of Maybelline/Mabel, Joshua and her little dog, Esmerelda. The story keeps us turning the pages with connection, denials, doubts, determination and steam.

I enjoyed heavy petting which was Joshua and Mabel’s story. It was a midlife, opposites attract, instalove with a grumpy older doctor, a spunky sunshine writer, and a matchmaking mutt who’s determined to finally have a family. This book is part of the Man of the Month club series. An entertaining read. And a new author, for me. I received a copy of the book and voluntarily leaving my review.
