The Junior Classics The Young Folks Shelf of Books Stories That Never Grow Old Volume 5 Mabel Williams and Marcia Dalphin Popular Edition Illustrated 1959 P.F. Collier & Son Corporation PRINTED IN THE UNITED STATES Hardcover
It's a very good selection of classic stories, but i absolutely abhor the adventures of Baron von Munchausen. Too much bs. I swear I've met that asshole.
A few of the selections here are excerpts from longer works. In particular, we have Gulliver's Voyage to Lilliput, but not the rest of Gulliver's Travels, and we have a retelling of part of Don Quixote. But we have A Christmas Carol in full! We have "The Gold Bug." We have "Rip Van Winkle." These are wonderful stories, carefully selected, and presented (mostly) in their complete form. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is given in full! The only one I found unfamiliar was "Jackanapes," a touching tribute to courage and sacrifice.
All of these stories are worth reading, and reading again.
After reading the many fairy tales and fables and such in previous volumes, I really valued the John Ruskin story "The King of the Golden River." Those familiar with the Harry Potter books will find something very reminiscent of "The Deathly Hallows."
