This is a must-read for anyone who wonders about emotional abuse, who is being emotionally abused, or who's asking, "What do you do when you're in an emotionally abusive relationship?" Doyle offers clarity when others might encourage you to "just be better" or "It can't be that bad," etc. He's been there himself and he is going to be honest with you about how you are probably in denial and filled with false hope. He also comes down hard on the Church for not helping, but essentially hurting, those who find themselves facing emotional abusive marriage partners. The platitudes offered to the emotionally abused by most pastors, and even Christian counselors, who don't recognize emotional abuse, are not at all helpful, but actually quite harmful. In many cases they give advice which actually emboldens the emotionally ABUSER to further and more severe abuse.
